Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Alright, let’s get into it. For the next fortnight and a bit, this stretch of coast isn’t exactly cooking. There’s a real flat spell coming after a little spike early on, so you’ve got to pick your moments. The main spot in the frame is The Wedge (Allenhurst) — a beach/jetty setup, exposed to the northeast swell window, but don’t get too excited just yet.
We kick off on Tuesday the 7th of July with a bit of swell on the cards, around 4–5ft from the east and east-northeast, but the wind is blowing a solid 16 mph from the northeast, cross-on, making it choppy and messy. Combined wave energy is moderate at 134 to 152 (moderate). The water temp is about average for the time of year — nothing unusual. That pattern carries into Wednesday the 8th, with similar cross-on winds and poor conditions, though the swell drops slightly. By Thursday the 9th of July, things ease right off — swell down to 2ft, period short at 8 seconds, but the wind finally turns cross-off from the southwest, cleaning it up. Still, it’s pretty weak, with energy down to 75 (weak). You might get a couple of fun little ones if you’re keen, but nothing to write home about.
From Friday the 10th onward, we hit a proper lull. Swell size drops to 1–1ft, winds swing around but mostly offshore or cross-off, keeping the water clean but tiny. That flatness stretches for several days — Saturday the 11th, Sunday the 12th, Monday the 13th — barely a ripple, with combined energy in the teens to low 20s (weak). Tuesday the 14th sees a little bump to 2ft from the east-southeast, but it’s cross-on and choppy again. The pattern of tiny surf and onshore junk continues through the second week, with Wednesday the 15th pushing 3ft but from the east with a pathetic 4-second period — just wind chop, really.
Now, there is a bit of a spike brewing for Tuesday the 21st of July. Swell builds to 5ft from the east with a 6-second period, and combined wave energy jumps to 159 (moderate). But — and it’s a big but — the wind is howling from the east-northeast at 16 mph, cross-on, making it a choppy, bumpy mess. That’s a real shame because the size is there, but the quality isn’t. For a jetty break like The Wedge, you need cleaner conditions. Over 5ft also means it’s pushing past beginner-friendly. The short period also means waves are a bit lumpy and less powerful. The best of the whole outlook? Gotta be Thursday the 9th of July, morning — 2ft from the east, 8-second period, light cross-off wind from the south-southwest at 6 mph. Clean, surfable, but tiny. If you’re after a paddle and a few fun ones, that’s your window. Crowds are possible here often, so you won’t be alone.
Honestly, it’s a pretty quiet run. No standouts to scream about. The beach/jetty setup keeps the surf inconsistent, and with long flat gaps, it tends to be the norm for this area. You’d be better off checking back closer to the dates, because forecasts can change, but right now the pickings are slim.
Rusty.
