Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Wedge (Allenhurst) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s on offer for The Wedge (Allenhurst). Gotta be straight with you – it’s looking pretty bleak for a solid two-week stretch. We’ve got a long, dry spell ahead before any real energy shows up.
Right off the bat, from Sunday the 12th all the way through to late Monday the 21st of July, the swell is just pathetic. We’re talking knee-high dribble at best, with flukey south-east windswell that’s barely breaking. The water temp is sitting at a pretty standard 71° for the time of year, so no surprises there. The wind is messy – either cross-onshore or cross-off – and the combined swell energy is stuck in the low double digits, just weak and gutless. There’s nothing to get excited about.
Finally, on Tuesday the 21st of July, we see a pulse of 5ft swell from the south, with a combined energy reading of 186 (moderate). The period is only 6 seconds though – that’s short-period, junky stuff. The wind is light cross-off, so the surface will be clean, but the waves will be crumbly and weak. Wednesday the 22nd hangs on with about 3ft from the south-east, but that’s it – the energy drops off fast and the rest of the week sinks back into tiny, weak surf.
Honestly, the standout here is Tuesday afternoon the 21st, simply because it’s the only time the swell height reaches over 5ft. But for most surfers, that short, mashy south swell with light winds is only going to be fun for a longboard or a foiler. The good news? Crowds aren't mentioned as a problem right now, so you’ll have it to yourself. But this is a beach and jetty setup, and with that short period and so-so shape, it’s mostly just a session to get wet.
Beyond that, it’s a barren run through to the 27th. If you’re a kiter, this setup could be interesting with the south winds later in the month, but for paddling? Nah. We’ll just have to wait and see if the long-range forecasts tighten up.
Rusty.
