The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get straight into it. We've got a pretty bleak stretch ahead for the next couple of weeks. The water is sitting at a balmy 77°F which is much warmer than normal for this time of year, so at least you won't be cold while you're sitting there staring at flat lines.
The first solid recommendation doesn't come until the very end of the run, so we're looking at a long gap of over a week with nothing worth paddling out for. Before that, it's a miserable mix of tiny windswell, poor wind directions, and choppy, messy conditions. There is a slight uptick on the afternoon of the 28th with a 4ft swell from the south and a period of 8 seconds, but the wind is onshore and strong at 16 mph, making it a messy, blown-out affair. The combined energy is moderate (358), but it's not worth it for paddle surfing.
For the first week of September, we finally see a tiny window. On the morning of Tuesday, September 1st, there's a clean 3ft swell from the south. The wind is a gentle cross-offshore breeze from the ENE at 9 mph, which will keep the surface clean. It's surfable, but very ordinary. The combined energy is weak (69). This is the only standout in the entire 16-day window.
If you're a beginner, this is your only shot. The swell is small enough to be manageable, and the clean conditions will help. For anyone else, it's a marginal session at best. The rest of the period is a total write-off, with tiny swells and onshore winds. Honestly, for the majority of the forecast, the setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing, given the significant onshore winds and small, poor-quality waves.
Keep an eye on the long-range forecasts, but for now, it's a waiting game.
Rusty.
