The Lowdown

Alright, let’s break it down in feet and knots.

Honestly, the outlook is a dud. Over the next 16 days, there’s barely a ripple that’s worth getting wet for. The whole stretch is dominated by tiny, weak waves and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds, so you’ll be staring at a lot of flat water. There are long gaps of several days with no surf at all—just poor conditions one after another.

The only break on the map is Long Point. It’s a fairly consistent, intermediate point break that’s exposed to SW swell, and that’s its best direction. But the numbers tell the story: the swell is a joke. On Thursday morning, August 27, we’ve got a 3ft WSW swell with a period of only 5 seconds (short-period windswell) and combined energy of just 28 (very weak). Wind is a moderate cross-shore from the W at 16 mph, so it’s choppy and messy. By the afternoon, the swell drops to 1ft and energy to 4—basically flat. No session here scores above zero.

From Friday, August 28, through the rest of the forecast, there’s no swell at all for Long Point. Wave heights are dashes, energy is zero. Winds are a mix of light offshores or cross-onshore, but without any swell, it’s just a flat ocean. The only tiny flicker of life is Monday morning, August 31, when a 3ft SW swell with a 5-second period shows up, energy at 46 (still very weak), but it’s cross-onshore and choppy. Not a surfable wave.

So here’s the straight truth: there’s nothing to recommend. This is a blank run, and for a spot that’s usually fairly consistent, that’s a real bummer. Forecasts can change, but right now, I’d save the wax and do something else.
