The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Strathmere 7th Street. I’ll be honest with you, this stretch of sand is lookin’ pretty quiet for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got a real slow start, so don’t be rushing to grab your board just yet.

The first few days are a write-off. From Friday the 4th right through to the 12th, it’s nothing but poor surf with tiny, weak waves. We’re talkin’ ankle-snappers at best, with combined swell energy barely breakin’ double digits (between 5 and 23). The wind is mostly clean or offshore, but there’s just no swell to work with. A brief moment on Sunday the 6th afternoon sees some waist-high, messy 1ft swell from the east, but it’s onshore and choppy, so you’d be fightin’ a losin’ battle. The whole first week is a bust.

Now, we finally get a flicker of life on the 13th. Sunday morning the 13th actually shows some promise. The wind is glassy, flat calm, and we’ve got a 4ft swell rollin’ in from the east-northeast with a period of 7 seconds. The combined energy jumps to 141 (moderate), and the surf is described as surfable but very ordinary. This is our only real standout in the whole 16-day window. For a beginner-friendly break like this, that’s about as good as it gets given the circumstances. Crowds are possible here, so expect a few faces in the water if you paddle out. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The next week is more of the same – nothin’ to write home about. A few more mornings with clean conditions on the 15th and 16th, but wave heights are knee-high and the energy is weak. A little bump on the 19th (Saturday) shows 4ft from the east-southeast, but the period is short (6 seconds) and the combined energy is 121 (moderate). Still, it’s clean, so it could be a fun little longboard session if you’re desperate.

Overall, this is a lean stretch. The surf is either tiny or messy, and the only real window is a few hours on the morning of the 13th. It’s a tough run, but that’s how it goes sometimes. Forecasts can change, so keep an eye on it.

Rusty.
