The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on offer for the next couple of weeks.

Look, I’m gonna be straight with you – for the next sixteen days, the only break that’s even worth a mention is Strathmere 7th Street. But it’s a mixed bag, and you’ll be waiting a while for anything decent. For the first few days, it’s a write-off. Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd start rough with a cross-onshore wind and a weak, short-period swell. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there.

The one real standout window is Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd. That’s your best bet. The swell bumps up to 5ft from the south, with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy of 515 – that’s a solid pulse of moderate wave energy. The wind swings to a clean cross-offshore from the west at 9 mph, which is a major positive. It’ll be clean. The size is manageable for most, but the short period means it’ll be a bit crumbly, not a proper groundswell. It’s a beginner-friendly break, so that’s fine, but just know that afternoon session is the highlight.

After that, it’s a long dry spell. Thursday the 23rd through to the end of the month, the swell drops right off. We’re looking at poor surf conditions, small weak waves under 3ft, and mostly onshore or cross-shore wind. There’s a few mornings in late July with a clean offshore breeze, like Tuesday the 28th morning, but the swell is tiny at 2ft – just not enough push to make it fun. You’ll be sitting on a longboard waiting for a knee-high ripple.

The drought continues into early August. We’ve got glassy conditions on the morning of Saturday the 1st and again on Tuesday the 4th, but the swell is barely 2ft and 1ft respectively. It’s surfable if you’re desperate, but it’s very ordinary.

So, to sum it up: your only real shot at a decent wave in this 16-day window is Wednesday afternoon, July 22nd at Strathmere 7th Street. Get in the water then. The rest of the period is a long gap with very little to offer. The break is fairly consistent here, so it’s a bit of a blank run, but forecasts can change.

Rusty.
