Boners Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for Boners. This is a tricky one, and I’ll be straight with you – we’ve got a long stretch of nothing special before we finally see a couple of windows worth getting excited about.

First up, the water temp is sitting at 58°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget the extra rubber.

We kick things off on Tuesday the 4th of August, but honestly, don’t bother paddling out. The swell is tiny at 3 ft from the WNW with a period of 9 seconds, and the wind is already cross-on. The combined energy is weak (277), and conditions are just marginal. Wednesday and Thursday are even worse – swell drops right off to 1 ft and 2 ft, with poor surf conditions and cross-on breezes. That’s a couple of days of nothing.

Friday the 7th of August shows a little pulse of long-period groundswell from the SSW at 19 seconds, but it’s only 2 ft to 2 ft, and the wind is not doing us any favours. The energy is still moderate (334). Not worth getting wet for.

The standouts come this weekend. Saturday morning, the 8th of August, is where it all comes together. We’ve got a clean 3 ft of SSW groundswell at 18 seconds, and the wind goes glassy. That’s proper clean surf, and the energy is solid (404). This is the best on offer for the whole outlook. Sunday morning the 9th of August is a near-carbon copy: 3 ft from the SSW, 15 seconds, and glassy again. The energy is even a touch higher (409). Two mornings of clean, lined-up waves at a reef break that’s exposed to the swell. But remember, Boners is a spot that rarely breaks, so when it does, it’s a treat. Also, crowds are always a problem here, so get there early.

From Monday the 10th onwards, the quality drops again. The swell bumps up to 4 ft from the WNW on Monday morning, but the wind is cross-on, and conditions are only marginal. That pattern continues through the rest of the week and into the second week – mostly small to moderate SSW swells, but almost always with a cross-on or cross-shore breeze. The energy peaks on Tuesday the 11th afternoon (775) with a 5 ft NW swell, but the wind is a gentle cross-on, making it choppy and poor. Not worth it.

There’s a couple of mornings in the second week with marginal conditions, but nothing that stands out. The 16th and 17th have some 3 ft to 3 ft SSW swell, but the wind is always cross-on, and the energy is moderate. Honestly, it’s a week of “maybe if you’re desperate.”

So, to sum it up: the entire 16-day window is a barren run except for Saturday and Sunday mornings. Those two sessions are the real deal. After that, it’s a long wait. Stick to those mornings, and you’ll score.
