Hey crew, Rusty checking in. Hard to sugarcoat it – Pleasure Point-First Peak is looking like a flat spell for the next couple weeks. This reef break is sheltered and needs a good SSW swell, but we just aren't getting it. The water's at 61°, which is much warmer than average for this time of year – pretty odd feeling.
We're starting off Thursday the 2nd and Friday the 3rd with tiny 2ft SSW swells, but the wind is messy, cross or cross-onshore. It's junk. Saturday the 4th is more of the same.
The first real chance to wet a line comes Sunday the 5th afternoon. Swell is still small at 2ft from the SSW, but the wind goes light cross-offshore, cleaning things up. The energy is moderate (341). You'll get a few, but you'll have to work for 'em.
Monday the 6th afternoon is where we get something to talk about. Swell lifts to 3ft from the SSW at a long 16 seconds, and the wind turns light cross-offshore. The combined energy jumps to a strong 402. This is the best of the early period – clean, some push, but still small for this spot.
There's a lull for a few days, then the real highlight hits Wednesday the 8th afternoon. Swell is 3ft from the SSW, period at 16 seconds, and the wind goes glassy. Energy is a solid 524. This is Pleasure Point at its most pristine. With that very long period groundswell, expect some straight walls on the reef, but it'll be glassy, clean, and the best-looking session of the outlook.
After that, we're back to the flatness. Thursday the 9th through the rest of the 16-day window sees the swell shrink to 1ft to 3ft, mostly with cross-shore or onshore wind. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th are flat-out tiny (1ft), with weak energy (59-106). Not worth the walk down the stairs.
The last couple days, Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th, have a tiny 1ft SW swell with some clean afternoon breezes, but it's barely a ripple. So, mark your calendar for Wednesday the 8th afternoon – glassy, clean, and the biggest energy of the run.
Rusty.
