The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down this 16-day stretch. We’ve only got Pleasure Point-First Peak on the radar – a reef that needs a good SSW swell to work. It’s a frustrating run, but there’s a couple of windows to get wet.
The first real chance is Thursday, August 20th. The afternoon goes glassy, with a 2 ft swell from the SSW, 14-second period. The energy is weak (197), but it’s clean. The water temp is about what you’d expect for this time of year. Saturday, August 22nd morning is also glassy, with a tiny 1 ft of SSW swell. It’s small, but if you’ve got a log, it’s a fun, clean session. Crowds are often here, so expect company.
Then, from Sunday, August 23rd, through Thursday, August 27th, it’s all poor. The wind goes cross-shore, the swell is messy, and the energy jumps up but it’s all onshore junk. Give it a miss.
The second week has one real standout. Saturday, August 29th. The swell hits 3 ft from the SSW, with a 18-second period. The energy is moderate (621), and the wind goes light cross-offshore in the afternoon. That’s the best of the lot. Friday, August 28th is marginal, with a 3 ft swell and 18-second period, but the wind is still cross.
The rest of the month fades out. Wednesday, September 2nd afternoon has a clean offshore wind from the WNW at 12 mph, with 2 ft of SW swell. Thursday, September 3rd is glassy, with 2-2 ft of swell. Rideable, but small.
The best bet is Saturday, August 29th. 3 ft, 18-second SSW groundswell, light cross-offshore wind, and moderate energy. That’s the one to pencil in. Everything else is a waiting game.
Rusty.
