Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.

Alright, straight up – this is a tough stretch. We’ve got a very long, quiet period ahead. The first bit of surf worth even mentioning doesn’t show up until Thursday, July 9th, and even then, it’s marginal. The wait is a few days of nothing to really get excited about.

The standout, and really the only window that looks genuinely good, is the afternoon of Sunday, July 19th. That’s over a week away, so keep that in mind. But for that afternoon, we’re looking at Pleasure Point-First Peak (reef) with a clean 3ft SSW swell. The wind is a light cross-offshore breeze, which will have it looking tidy. The swell energy is solid at 674 (moderate) and the period is a long 15 seconds, so it’ll have some push. This is the best on offer across the whole 16-day window. Because it’s a reef setup that loves a longer period, it should line up nicely. The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.

Before that, it’s a grind. The first few days from July 9th through the 11th are tiny, with waist-to-chest high waves at best (3ft to 3ft). The wind is light and variable, mostly cross or glassy, but the swell is weak and the energy is low (242-804). The longest period swells (16 seconds) are in there, but the size just isn’t there to make it worthwhile. Thursday afternoon July 9th sees a jump in energy to 804, but the wave comment says marginal. It’s a lot of paddling for not much.

The week of July 13th to 18th is full of small, weak swells. The size drops to 1ft to 2ft, and while we get some glassy mornings and clean afternoons, the energy is consistently low (89-260). The period swings from 12 to 19 seconds, but with that little height, it’s mostly a flat spell. The 3ft spike on the 19th afternoon is the only real pulse.

After that, the 20th through the 24th sees a slight return of 2ft to 3ft SSW swell, with clean conditions on the 20th and 22nd mornings, but it’s still ordinary surf. Everything is small and requires a lot of patience.

So, if you’re keen, hold out for the afternoon of Sunday, July 19th at Pleasure Point. Everything else is a struggle for scraps. This is a classic summer lull for this spot.

Rusty.
