The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Eerste Steen over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the water is running *much colder than normal* for this time of year, sitting at a chilly 55°F with a 5°F anomaly. That’s a solid three degrees off the mark, so you’ll be wantin’ a decent steamer if you’re paddling out.
The first few days are a bit of a write-off, honestly. Friday the 21st through Sunday the 23rd have some decent sized swell—7ft to 8ft from the SW—but the conditions are just marginal. The wave energy is massive (1131 to 1720), but the wind is cross or cross-on, and the comment says it’s questionable. Not worth paddling out for.
Monday the 24th is a no-go: the wind jumps up to 16 mph in the afternoon and the surf quality drops to poor. Tuesday the 25th morning is the first real standout. You’ve got 8ft of SW groundswell, a long 14 second period, and clean conditions with a cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is a solid 2414. That’s a proper session for the intermediate crew. The afternoon gets a bit chopped up by the wind, so make it a dawn patrol.
Wednesday the 26th is a sneaky good one. Swell drops to 4ft from the WSW, but the period is still a long 13 seconds, and the wind is light and cross-offshore both morning and afternoon. The energy is moderate (797), but the conditions are clean. It’s a small wave day, but it’ll be fun and glassy—perfect for a longboard or a fish.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. Thursday the 27th and Friday the 28th morning have some swell, but the wind is iffy. However, Friday the 28th afternoon is a gem: 5ft of WSW groundswell with a 14 second period, and the wind goes glassy—0 mph. That’s a clean, lined-up afternoon. Energy is 1171, and it’s a great chance to score some smooth waves.
Saturday the 29th gets messy. The morning is a cross-chop, and the afternoon sees 12ft of SW swell, but the comment says it’s *too big for this break*. That’s expert territory, and the wind is onshore. Not the spot for that.
Sunday the 30th morning is a big one. Glassy winds, 10ft of WSW groundswell, 12 second period, and a massive 4378 energy. The comment says it’s excellent for experienced surfers—but that’s big, powerful stuff. Only for the well-prepared crew.
The first week of September brings more size. Monday the 1st morning is another glassy morning with 4ft of SW swell, but it’s small. The real standout in the second week? Thursday the 3rd and Friday the 4th are absolutely pumping, but the swell is 16ft and 12ft respectively—both flagged as too big for the break. The energy readings are off the charts (10754 and 4058). That’s a hard pass, unless you’re towing in.
The last day in the window, Saturday the 5th, still has 10ft of SW groundswell with a 15 second period, but the wind is cross and it’s marginal. Not a recommendation.
Best on offer: Tuesday the 25th morning for the clean, solid 8ft SW groundswell, and Friday the 28th afternoon for the glassy, lined-up 5ft. Sunday the 30th morning is a big-wave option for the experts if you’re keen.
Rusty out.
