Table - best surf conditions forecast for Eerste Steen over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s talk about Eerste Steen.
We’ve got a solid run of swell coming in over the next couple of weeks, but you’ve gotta pick your windows. The water is sitting at 58°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so don’t forget a decent spring suit.
The first real action kicks off Thursday morning, July 9th. It’s a bit messy with a 10ft SW swell and a cross-shore breeze, so not the best for a paddle. The combined energy is high at 2847, but it’s a bit of a chop-fest.
Roll into Friday morning, July 10th, and that’s where it cleans up. We’ve got an 8ft SSW swell, clean conditions with a cross-offshore breeze, and a solid 13-second period. This is a standout for the first week. The energy is still pumping (2246), and it’ll be a proper session for anyone with a bit of experience. Saturday morning, the 11th, is also a good call with a 7ft SSW swell and clean glassy conditions, just a touch smaller.
By Sunday the 12th, things start to drop off. The swell ebbs through the start of the next week, with small, clean waves on Monday and Tuesday mornings, but nothing to write home about. That 3ft W swell on Tuesday the 14th is glassy, but it’s pretty weak.
Then we get a pulse. Wednesday afternoon, July 15th, the swell jumps back up to 6ft from the WSW, with a very long 16-second period. The energy is back up to 1641, but the wind is onshore, so it’s a bit of a gamble. Thursday the 16th has a bigger 8ft WSW swell, but again, the wind isn’t ideal.
Friday the 17th is a write-off – strong winds and lumpy conditions. Saturday the 18th is small and clean in the morning, but a messy NW windswell arrives in the afternoon.
Now, for the second week, there are some massive swells on the chart, but they’re likely too big for Eerste Steen. Sunday morning, July 19th, has an 12ft W swell with a 13-second period and clean conditions (combined energy 3913), but it’s flagged as being too big for this break. The same goes for Monday the 20th (10ft SSW) and Tuesday the 21st (12ft SW with a 15-second period, energy 5250). These are big, powerful groundswells, and while the conditions look good, this break is going to be a washing machine. Save those for the experts only.
The real stand-out in the second week is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. It’s a more manageable 8ft SW swell, with a 13-second period and clean, cross-offshore winds. The energy is a solid 1776, and it’s rated excellent for experienced surfers. That’s your best bet for the back half of the forecast.
Thursday the 23rd gets wild again with a 16ft W swell in the afternoon (energy 8453), but it’s simply too big for a paddle. The morning has an 8ft WSW swell with a 15-second period and clean wind, but it’s a long period swell for a beach break, so expect it to be a bit straight.
A bit of a mixed bag overall, but there are two clear windows: Friday the 10th morning and Wednesday the 22nd morning. The rest is either too small, too windy, or too big for this spot.
Rusty.
