Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s comin’ our way at Eerste Steen. A bit of a slow start, then some real juice mid-week, and a couple of standouts for the experienced crew.
The water is sitting at 56°, which is about 5° colder than usual for this time of year—that’s a proper bite. Bring the thick rubber.
We kick off on Friday, July 3rd, with a messy start. The morning has a cross-off breeze but the combined swell energy is still weak at 903, only 4ft of SW groundswell at a long 13 seconds. It’s marginal. Afternoon gets worse—period drops to 8 seconds and it goes cross-on. Not worth paddling out for.
Saturday the 4th is a no-go. Swell tanks down to 2ft with a tiny 393 energy early, and a weak windswell in the afternoon. Clean but way too small.
Sunday the 5th finally shows a little life. Morning has a light offshore breeze and 3ft of long-period SW groundswell (13 seconds, 468 energy). You might get a sneaky waist-high set but it’s a beggars-choose situation.
Now, Monday the 6th is where it gets real. This is a standout. The morning is glassy with offshore wind and 6ft of SW groundswell at 12 seconds. The combined energy jumps hard to 1499, which is moderate-strong. This is clean, solid, and for intermediate to advanced surfers. The afternoon gets cross-on and choppy, so hit the early session.
Tuesday the 7th is also excellent for experienced surfers. Morning brings a light cross-off breeze and a honkin’ 7ft SW swell at 12 seconds, energy at 1362. Clean lines, solid power. Afternoon stays at 7ft but picks up a side wind that puts a little texture on it.
Wednesday the 8th pumps big but gets bumpy. The swell pushes 8ft SW at 13 seconds (energy 2833 in the morning, 2847 in the afternoon). That’s strong, solid overhead surf. The wind is cross and cross-chop all day, so it’s gonna be lumpy. Not beginner friendly, and honestly, with that much power and onshore influence, it might be more fun for the kite crew than paddle surfers.
Thursday the 9th is a stellar morning. Another standout. The swell is 7ft SW at 14 seconds, energy at 2103, with a clean cross-off breeze. That’s long-period groundswell, perfect for the point setup here. Wait for the sets, paddle easy between them. Afternoon goes cross and a bit weaker.
Friday the 10th is decent but a step down: 6ft SW, 13 seconds, cross-off breeze, clean, 1042 energy. Morning only though; afternoon turns cross-on.
Saturday the 11th is tiny again. Morning is glassy with 4ft SW—weak but clean. Don’t get your hopes up.
Sunday the 12th is small but rideable: 4ft SSW in the morning, cross-off, clean. Not a standout.
From Monday the 13th through Tuesday the 14th, the wind cranks up to 15-19 mph and the swell goes small and messy. Poor conditions, do not bother.
Wednesday the 15th morning is glassy but only 4ft W swell. Clean but weak.
Thursday the 16th brings the final standout of the outlook. This is for the big-wave hunters only. Morning has a clean cross-off breeze with a solid 10ft SW groundswell at 15 seconds. The combined energy is enormous at 3420—that’s very strong. This is expert territory, overhead-plus with serious power. The long period will make it suck hard at a beach break, but here at a reef-friendly spot like Eerste Steen, the shape could be all-time. Afternoon stays 10ft but goes cross-on. This one is promising but it’s 13 days out, so keep an eye on it.
Friday the 17th still has size—7ft SW, 13 seconds, cross-off in the morning, 1572 energy—but it’s not quite the peak.
From Saturday the 18th onward, the whole run fades into poor small surf and onshore slop.
If you’re looking for the one to circle: Monday July 6th morning and Thursday July 9th morning are the best all-round sessions for clean, solid waves. Thursday July 16th morning is for the brave and the skilled—big, clean, and powerful.
Rusty.
