The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the menu for Eerste Steen over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a messy start. Friday the 21st has some swell, but it’s crossed up and the water is a full 3° colder than usual for this time of year – feels more like winter than late summer. Saturday and Sunday are nothing to write home about either, with onshore winds messing things up. We’re waiting until Tuesday the 25th for the real action.
That Tuesday morning is the standout. We’ve got a solid 8ft SW groundswell rolling in with a long 14-second period, and the wind is light and cross-offshore. The combined energy is pumping at 2267 (moderate to strong). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers, with clean, powerful lines. That’s the session to point your board for.
The rest of that week is a bit of a mixed bag. Wednesday the 26th stays clean with lighter winds and smaller 4ft to 4ft surf – good for a fun, mellow session. Friday the 28th looks promising too, with a morning offshore breeze and glassy conditions that afternoon, both on a 4ft WSW groundswell (14-second period). The energy is moderate (around 1000). Nice and clean.
Now, we hit a rough patch. Saturday the 29th gets blown out, and Sunday the 30th sees a massive 13ft swell – too big for this break, and only for proper experts if they’re even considering it. The energy is extreme (4990). That’s more of a spectator day or a kite-surfing show if the wind plays ball.
Looking into the first week of September, there’s another potential highlight. Tuesday the 1st of September morning looks excellent again: 6ft SW swell, 14-second period, and clean cross-offshore winds. The combined energy is strong (1539). That’s another day for the experienced crew to get excited about. The following days get chopped up by wind, so it’s a short-lived window.
As we head into the second week, Friday the 4th of September offers a glimmer of hope with a clean 6ft S swell (10-second period) and light offshore winds, but it’s less certain. After that, it drops off into small, poor conditions.
So, to sum it up: the real standout is Tuesday the 25th of August morning. That’s your best bet for a proper, powerful, clean session. The Tuesday the 1st of September morning is also a strong second option. The rest of the window is a mix of waiting, wind, and a monster swell that’s best left alone.
Rusty.
