The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break this down for the imperial crew. Only one spot on the menu: Eerste Steen.
Water temp is 55°F, and that’s about 5°F colder than normal – you’ll feel it.
Sunday the 23rd starts us off with a 7ft WSW groundswell, 13-second period, and 1606 combined energy – strong stuff. Winds are light cross from the south at 6 mph. Rideable but not perfect. Afternoon gets a bit more wind.
Monday the 24th drops to 6ft then 4ft, with cross-shore winds at 12 mph kicking up chop. Not a highlight.
Wednesday the 26th is the one. 4ft waves, WSW swell, 13 and 12-second periods, and light cross-offshore winds from the ESE and SE. Clean conditions, labelled “very good.” Small but smooth.
Friday the 28th also has clean morning and afternoon sessions, with 4ft to 4ft waves and light offshore breezes. The afternoon has a nice 14-second period. Glassy.
Then it goes ugly from Saturday the 29th through Monday the 1st of September – strong northwesterly winds up to 28 mph, messy chop. Stay out.
Tuesday the 1st of September brings a chunky 10ft SW swell, 13-second period, and 2714 energy. Winds are cross-offshore from the SE at 12 mph, so it’s clean. But 10ft is big – experts only. Long way out, so keep tabs.
Wednesday the 2nd of September stays big at 10ft but northwesterly winds at 19 to 22 mph ruin it.
Thursday the 3rd to Saturday the 5th is mostly onshore and rainy – poor.
Sunday the 6th has a clean morning with 5ft waves but only 8-second period – weak.
Monday the 7th of September shows a massive 12ft SW swell at 11 seconds and 3291 energy, but it’s flagged as too big and winds are onshore. Skip it.
The standout: Wednesday the 26th of August. Clean, small, and fun.
One to watch: Tuesday the 1st of September. Big and clean but for experts only, and still a long way off.
Rusty.
