Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Eerste Steen has in store for us over the next couple of weeks. There’s actually some really solid swell due, so your board is going to get wet.

Looking at the big picture, the first few days are a bit of a warm-up. Saturday morning the 4th is a non-starter with a weak 3ft and bumpy wind, not worth paddling out for. Sunday the 5th morning is a step in the right direction with cleaner 3ft surf but still small. The real action kicks off on Monday the 6th with a proper pulse.

The standout session, and the one I’d be circling on the calendar, is Monday the 6th of July in the morning. The water is cleaner than a whistle with glassy conditions and the swell is a solid 7ft from the WSW with an 11-second period. The combined energy is punching at 1257 (moderate wave energy), which is where this break starts to wake up. For intermediate surfers, this is a great window. Just be aware the water temperature is sitting at 56°, a full 4° colder than normal for this time of year, so that 5/4 wetsuit is a must. It’s been a cooler season.

Tuesday the 7th is a close second. Another glassy morning with 7ft from the SW at 12 seconds, and the energy is still high at 1327. The swell direction is right in the sweet spot for this fairly exposed break. It’s consistent enough that you won't be waiting forever, but with the potential for crowds being "sometimes", you might want to get out there early to beat the crew.

Later in the week, from Wednesday the 8th through to Friday the 10th, the size climbs even more, and it grinds into expert territory. Thursday the 9th morning offers 7ft from the SW at a long 14-second period, with clean cross-off winds from the ESE. The combined energy is massive at 2010 (strong wave energy). This is a powerful groundswell that will be holding up nicely at this point break setup, but it’s going to be a handful for anyone not on their game.

For the second week, things get a bit more complicated. The swell chills out for a bit, with Sunday the 12th offering tiny 3ft glassy waves, and Monday the 13th sees similar small, clean conditions. Then around Tuesday the 14th morning, it picks back up to a clean 5ft from the W. However, by Wednesday the 15th, a strong 19 mph north wind blows up and trashes the quality, making it a no-go.

The most promising of the long-range outlook is Thursday the 16th of July morning, but with a serious caveat. The swell is forecast at a massive 12ft from the S with a 10-second period and a combined energy of 2605 (very strong wave energy). That is way over the head and too big for surging at this spot. The wind is onshore, too. This is strictly for experts with big-wave guns, if it’s even rideable at all. It looks like it might be better suited for the tow crew. The following Friday morning the 17th drops back to a much more manageable 7ft from the S with clean offshore winds, which would be the better bet that week.

All in all, the first week has the best windows, especially the 6th and 7th of July.

Stay stoked.
Rusty.
