Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up to be for The Point in Elands Bay. The water’s sitting at about average for the time of year, which is nothing too wild.
We’re starting from scratch here with a pretty quiet weekend. Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th have tiny, weak swell rolling in. Saturday morning is basically a write-off with a small 3ft WSW swell and a bit of a cross-on wind making things messy. Saturday afternoon cleans up a little with a tiny 1ft wave but a crazy long 16-second period – that’s proper groundswell energy but not much height to work with. Sunday morning is the first real glimmer of hope: glassy conditions with a 3ft WSW swell, clean and tidy.
Monday the 6th sees a proper step up. The swell jumps to 6ft in the morning from the WSW with a 12-second period, and the energy is kicking into moderate territory (791). The wind is offshore and glassy early. This is looking like the first real standout session for the week. The Point is a reef, point and rivermouth setup, and that long period groundswell loves that kind of structure, so expect nice lines. By afternoon it holds at 6ft, a bit more wind on it but still very good.
Tuesday the 7th drops back a little but remains solid. Morning has clean 4ft WSW swell (755) with cross-off winds. The afternoon gets a bit lumpier with 5ft but still workable.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is where it gets serious. Morning swell hits 6ft from the WSW, period stretching to 13 seconds, and the energy is strong at 1288. That’s powerful for The Point. This is expert territory but the conditions are excellent – clean and lined up. This is your top choice for the first week, no doubt. The afternoon holds similar power.
Thursday the 9th stays very good with a drop to 5ft from the SW, glassy offshore wind in the morning. Clean, punchy waves. After that, it trails off a bit. Friday the 10th is a write-off in the morning, but Friday afternoon turns glassy again with a 3ft SW swell – worth a sneaky session if you’re local. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th stay small but clean with glassy mornings, perfect for a longboard or a fun fish.
There’s a lull through Monday the 13th – poor, weak surf. Then Tuesday the 14th offers a small but clean 4ft WSW in the morning under glassy skies, a nice surprise after the flat spell.
Then we look ahead. Thursday the 16th of July – big water alert. A massive 10ft SW groundswell is forecast with energy through the roof (2922). That’s way too big for The Point. This is purely for the elite, and even then it might be out of control. Friday the 17th is still huge at 8ft in the morning with strong energy (2346) – excellent for experts only. This second-week window is promising but a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
All in all, the first week peaks on Wednesday the 8th – that’s the one to circle. The second week has size but it’s a big boy’s game.
Rusty.
