Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Point (Elands Bay) over the next 16 days.
Right, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for The Point. This is a reef, point and rivermouth setup, so it’s got that classic, drawn-out potential we love. The water’s sitting at 57°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – a good 3° below the average, so you’ll want the thickest wetsuit you’ve got.
The window kicks off on Thursday morning, 9 July. We’ve got a solid 5ft SW groundswell, with a period of 14 seconds, pushing a lot of energy through here (combined energy of 1002). That’s decent, powerful stuff. The wind is a cross-off from the south at 9 mph, so it’s going to be clean. The comment says “excellent surf for experienced surfers” – and honestly, with that size and period, it’s a bit too much for beginners. This is the standout for the first week. The Point offers a great line, and that long period swell will wrap in nicely.
Thursday afternoon drops a little to 5ft, but the wind stays cross-off. The energy eases off (804), so it’s still good, but the morning session is the pick.
Friday morning, 10 July, is a gem. The swell drops to 5ft, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm. That’s a huge positive. The energy is still moderate (698). It’ll be clean, smooth, and the crowd profile says “sometimes” busy, so you might have a few out, but it’ll be worth it.
The size tapers off over the weekend. Saturday morning, 11 July, has 3ft with glassy conditions, and Sunday morning, 12 July, is a tiny 3ft with glass again. Perfect for a longboard or a funboard, but nothing to get too excited about. The energy is dropping (270 by Sunday).
Monday and Tuesday, 13-14 July, are small. 2ft to 3ft, and the wind is variable. The energy is weak (113-189). It’s surfable, but very ordinary.
Wednesday, 15 July, is a bit of a curveball. A new pulse of 1ft swell, but with a very long period of 16 seconds. That’s a long-period groundswell, which can be tricky at a beach break, but at a point/reef like this, it’ll try to stand up. The energy is moderate (225), but the wind is cross-on, so not ideal.
Now, the second week gets interesting. Thursday morning, 16 July, we see a big jump: 7ft from the WSW, 14-second period, and the combined energy is way up at 1929. That’s strong. The wind is cross-off from the south. This is another serious standout for experienced surfers only – over 8ft is expert territory, and this is close. The Point will handle it, but be prepared for a lot of water moving.
Friday, 17 July, holds at 6ft in the morning, dropping to 5ft in the afternoon. Still cross-off winds, still clean. Good, solid waves.
After that, it fades out. Saturday 18 July through to Tuesday 21 July is small, with poor winds – cross-on, lumpy, and messy. The energy is weak (84-220). That’s a few days of nothing much.
Then, Wednesday 22 July and Thursday 23 July see a slight bump back to 4ft, with clean conditions and offshore winds. The period is 12-14 seconds, so decent shape. Energy is moderate (374-503). A good window for the intermediates.
The final standout is Friday morning, 24 July. Another solid pulse: 7ft from the WSW, 12-second period, and the energy is 1467. The wind is glassy. That’s a big, clean swell. The afternoon bumps to 8ft with 1802 energy, but the wind goes cross-off. If you’re an expert, that Friday morning session is the one to aim for. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it, but it looks promising.
So, overall: the best on offer is Thursday morning, 9 July, for that powerful, clean SW groundswell, and Friday morning, 24 July, for the glassy WSW pulse. The middle of the next week is a write-off, but the first and last few days have some real potential. The Point is consistent enough to keep the hope alive.
