Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Point (Elands Bay) over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for The Point.
The water is sitting at about 57°, which is running a bit cooler than average for July. The first real session is on Saturday July 11th. We’ve got a clean 3ft SW groundswell with a long 12-second period, and the wind is glassy out of the SE. Energy is moderate (447). This is a reef, point, and rivermouth setup, so that long-period groundswell will wrap in nicely.
Saturday afternoon drops to 3ft from the SSW, but the wind goes cross-off and it stays clean.
Sunday July 12th is a mixed bag. Morning has a cross-on breeze from the NNW with a 3ft W swell – not ideal. But by Sunday afternoon the wind goes glassy again out of the WSW, and the same 3ft swell cleans right up. That afternoon window is the one to snag.
Monday July 13th morning is tiny – about 2ft and glassy, but energy is weak (112). Not much to write home about. Tuesday July 14th picks up with a 3ft W swell and glassy winds again in the morning. Clean and small.
Now, Wednesday July 15th morning is lovely: 3ft W swell with offshore wind from the SSE. Clean lines. But Wednesday afternoon brings a new 3ft WSW swell with a very long 16-second period, energy jumping to 679. That’s a solid pulse, but the wind goes cross-shore, so there’ll be a little chop.
The standout is Thursday July 16th morning. A solid 7ft WSW groundswell with a 13-second period. Energy is strong (1623). The wind is cross-off from the south, keeping it clean. That’s expert-level surf – overhead and powerful. If you’re experienced, that’s your session.
Thursday afternoon drops to 6ft, still heavy but with a cross-shore wind.
Friday July 17th and Saturday July 18th keep the good times rolling. Friday morning has 6ft SW with offshore SE wind – clean and powerful. Saturday morning is 5ft SW with a 14-second period and cross-off E wind. That afternoon goes glassy again, 4ft. Sweet.
Sunday July 19th is a washout – onshore wind and messy. But Monday July 20th morning bounces back with glassy 4ft W swell.
Another standout shows up on Wednesday July 22nd morning. Glassy calm, 3ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period, energy at 516. Clean, long lines, and no wind. That’s a dream session for intermediates and up.
The run stays solid through the end of the week. By Saturday July 25th, we get another big pulse: 6ft SW with offshore SSE wind on Saturday afternoon, energy hitting 1060. That’s excellent – experts only at that size, but it’s pumping.
Sunday July 26th sees a big 8ft WSW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, but the wind swings onshore from the NE at 15 mph and the energy is very strong (2336). That one’s messy for surfing but could be fun for kiting.
Overall, there are plenty of good windows. The big standouts are Thursday July 16th morning for the experts, and Wednesday July 22nd morning for cleaner, more manageable waves. Crowds can show up at The Point sometimes, so get in early.
