Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty again. Let’s break down the same run at The Point (Elands Bay) in feet and miles.
The water is sitting at 56°F, which is a couple of degrees cooler than what we’re used to this time of year – bring a thicker wetsuit.
The first real surf shows up on Sunday, 5 July. It’s small, with a clean 3ft swell from the WSW. The morning is glassy, with zero wind, making for some buttery smooth conditions. The combined energy is weak (295), but for a Sunday morning with no wind, it’s fun for a longboard.
Monday, 6 July is the highlight. The swell jumps to 6ft from the WSW, with an 11-second period. The morning is pure gold – offshore SE wind at 3 mph, keeping the surface clean. The combined energy is moderate (731), and this is a very solid session for intermediate surfers. This is your best window.
Tuesday, 7 July keeps it going. Swell is 4ft–5ft, 12-second period, light cross-off wind. The afternoon sees a bump in energy (760), and it’s still clean.
Wednesday, 8 July morning has a big pulse of energy (1111). The swell is 5ft at 13 seconds from the WSW. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean, but it’s getting pushy for intermediates.
Thursday, 9 July morning is the standout of the second part of the week. Swell is 5ft from the SW at 14 seconds, with light cross-off wind. The combined energy is strong (1094), and the waves are excellent for experienced surfers. This is a big, powerful groundswell – perfect for the point, but too big for beginners.
After that, the surf fades. Friday, 10 July is onshore and messy. The weekend of 11 & 12 July is small and blown out, under 3ft and poor.
There’s a long gap of poor to flat conditions from Monday, 13 July through to Wednesday, 16 July morning. Tiny waves, mostly below 2ft, with very low energy (93 to 63).
Thursday, 16 July brings a late pulse of 6ft from the WSW, but the wind is onshore and strong (16 mph in the morning, 9 mph in the afternoon). The combined energy is high (1246), but the wind is onshore and lumpy – this looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The rest of the outlook through to Monday, 20 July is small, weak, and not worth a second look.
Best on offer: The standout is Monday, 6 July morning – 6ft WSW groundswell with offshore wind and clean conditions. Second pick is Thursday, 9 July morning – bigger, powerful, and clean for experienced surfers.
Rusty.
