Table - best surf conditions forecast for The Point (Elands Bay) over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
Alright, so we’ve got a solid run ahead at The Point in Elands Bay. The water is sitting at 57°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so bring an extra layer if you’re out early. The first few days are all about clean, glassy conditions, but the swell is modest. The real standout heads-up is for Thursday the 16th of July, where we see a nice jump in power.
Friday morning the 10th kicks off with a glassy 4ft SW swell at 13 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (630). It’s a good, clean start. The afternoon holds 4ft from the same direction, still glassy. Saturday morning the 11th has glassy 3ft SW swell, but the afternoon gets a bit of a cross-off wind, dropping to 3ft. Sunday the 12th is glassy again in the morning with a 3ft W swell, but it’s a bit weaker. The early part of the week (Monday 13th through Tuesday 14th) is smaller, with 2ft to 3ft waves and ordinary conditions.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Wednesday the 15th has a very long period WSW groundswell at 16 seconds, but it’s only 1ft in the morning. The afternoon picks up to 3ft with a 15-second period, and energy jumps to moderate (529) – that’s a classic long-period groundswell, which will wrap beautifully around the point.
The standout session is Thursday the 16th of July. The morning brings a solid 6ft WSW swell at 13 seconds, with a combined energy of (1206). That’s strong wave energy, and it’s cleaning up with a cross-off breeze. This is excellent for experienced surfers – it’s over 5ft, so it’s getting a bit much for beginners, but the point setup will handle it well. The afternoon stays around 6ft, still clean.
Friday the 17th drops back to 4ft in the morning, but the afternoon gets messy with a fresh 30 km/h cross-off wind. Saturday the 18th has a 6ft WSW swell in the morning with a gentle offshore wind, giving clean, powerful waves. The afternoon gets a bit bumpy with stronger side winds. Things taper off Sunday the 19th with clean 3ft SW swell.
Looking further out, there’s another pulse. Tuesday the 22nd of July has a very clean 4ft SW swell at 14 seconds in the morning (energy 978), and the wind is light. The 23rd holds 5ft to 6ft SW, but it’s a bit wind-affected. Friday the 24th of July is a monster pulse – 10ft WSW swell at 14 seconds, but the file says it’s too big for this break. That’s a warning. Combined energy is (3580), which is very strong, but it’s an expert-only proposition if you’re brave, and the wind is light. The 25th of July is a write-off with strong onshore winds and lumpy 7ft to 8ft swell.
The Point can get crowded sometimes, so for the best sessions, aim for the early mornings. The long-period swells on the 15th and 22nd will be best on the point and reef sections, as the long period can make beach breaks a bit straight.
Bottom line: Thursday the 16th of July is the premium pick – strong, clean, and punchy. The 22nd is also a very good backup. The end of the run on the 24th is massive but only for the brave.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
