Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doring Bay over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s get into it. We’ve got a solid run of swell on the way for Doring Bay, but it’s going to be a game of two halves. The first few days are looking prime for those who can handle a bit of size, then things get a bit messy and oversized later on.
The first real standout is Friday morning, July 10th. Doring Bay is a reef break that’s exposed to the SW, and we’re seeing a solid 8ft SSW groundswell rolling in with a 13-second period – that’s proper energy (1866). The wind is glassy, coming from the SW at just 3 mph, so the surface will be like a mirror. The water temp is about average for the time of year. This is serious surf for experienced surfers only; it’s not a day for learners. The crowds are *sometimes* an issue here, but with that size and the reef, you’ll have it mostly to yourselves if you're on the ball.
Saturday morning, July 11th, is another beauty. The swell drops a touch to 6ft from the SSW, but the period is still a meaty 12 seconds (1152 energy). The real kicker is the wind – a clean 6 mph offshore from the E. This is going to be clean, well-shaped, and a lot more manageable than Friday. It’s still an intermediate-plus wave, but it’s a much more inviting prospect.
Sunday morning, July 12th, offers a smaller, cleaner option with 4ft SSW swell and a light offshore breeze. The energy is down to 595, but for a longboard or a fun shape, it’ll be a super fun session.
Now, after that, the swell drops off a cliff for a few days. Monday through Wednesday is very small and weak, mostly under 3ft, with cross-shore winds. There’s a real gap in quality surf here.
Then, on Thursday morning, July 16th, we get a proper pulse of energy back. The swell jumps to 8ft from the SW with a 13-second period (1876 energy) and light offshore wind from the ESE. This is the other standout – another big, powerful groundswell with clean conditions. Doring Bay will be throwing down. Again, this is for experienced surfers.
Friday, July 17th, is a step down in quality, with onshore winds forecast for the afternoon. The weekend of July 18th and 19th sees the swell absolutely pumping, but the wind is not on our side. Saturday afternoon has a 10ft WSW swell, but the write-up says it’s too big for the break. Sunday reaches 10ft again, but with strong onshore winds. The setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing at that point.
The following week, from July 20th onwards, is dominated by large, messy, or onshore swell. There are a few glimpses of decent size on the 23rd and 24th, but the wind is cross or onshore, and the swell is too big. The 24th (Friday) shows a staggering 20ft swell from the WSW with a 15-second period (16822 energy) – that’s a massive, dangerous ocean, not a surfable wave for the average punter.
So, to sum it up: your two best windows are Friday morning, July 10th, and Thursday morning, July 16th. Both are big, clean, and powerful. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or too big.
Rusty.
