Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doring Bay over the next 16 days.

Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about Doring Bay.

So, the overall picture: we’ve got a solid run of surf coming, but it’s not all plain sailing. The first few days are a bit of a warm-up, with small, cleanish waves, but the real muscle shows up from mid-week onwards. The water temp is sitting at 56°F, which is a good 3°F colder than average for this time of year, so you’ll want a good 5/4 and booties, my friend. That’s a fair bite in the air.

Monday 13th July is where we start to see something decent. The morning is glassy – dead calm with a 3ft SSW swell, period around 10 seconds. It's small, but the calm conditions make it a nice, easy session for the intermediate crew. Combined wave energy is a modest 215 (moderate). Not a standout, but a pleasant start.

Tuesday 14th July morning is similar – glassy again, with a 3ft swell from the west at 11 seconds. Energy is 276 (moderate). Clean, small, and mellow. The wind is zero, so it’s going to be silky. Good for a quickie before work.

Now, Wednesday 15th July morning is where I get excited. We’ve got a 3ft SW groundswell, period a very long 16 seconds, with light cross-offshore winds. The energy is 593 (moderate), but that period means the waves will have real shape and power for the size. The wind is clean. This is a very good option for those who like a bit of push on a smaller day.

Thursday 16th July morning is the first real standout. We’re looking at a 8ft SW swell with a 13-second period, light cross-offshore breeze, and the energy is a strong 2426. The report says excellent surf for experienced surfers. This is a proper groundswell, and with those light winds, it’s going to be firing. The crowd might be there sometimes, with that quality on offer, but it’ll be worth it. At 8ft, it’s borderline for beginners – more of an intermediate to expert zone.

Friday 17th July morning keeps the momentum. A 7ft SW swell, 12-second period, light cross-offshore wind, and energy of 1324 (moderate to strong). Another clean, excellent session for experienced surfers.

Saturday 18th July morning is a bit of a mix. The swell holds at 7ft from the SW, period 12 seconds, but the wind swings to a moderate cross-offshore from the ENE. The energy is 1352, but the wind is a bit stronger, making it a bit more challenging. Still good, but not as pristine as Thursday or Friday.

Sunday 19th July morning we get a little lull. The swell drops to 4ft from the SW, 12-second period, but it’s glassy again with no wind. Energy is 527 (moderate). Clean and fun for the smaller boards.

Monday 20th July morning is small, with a 3ft W swell and cross-onshore wind. Not the best. The afternoon cleans up with a light cross-offshore, but the swell is only 3ft.

Tuesday 21st July morning is a nice surprise. A clean 5ft WSW swell with a light offshore wind from the ESE. Period is 11 seconds. Energy is 838 (moderate). This looks very good, clean and punchy.

Wednesday 22nd July morning is a monster, but it’s too big for the break. We’re talking 10ft from the SW, period 14 seconds, with a strong cross-offshore wind (28 mph). The energy is a massive 4065 (very strong). This is expert-only territory, and even then, it might be a washing machine. The report says it’s predicted to be too big for this break. The afternoon has cross-onshore wind and lumpy conditions. Not the one.

Thursday 23rd July is a write-off. Strong cross-onshore winds, messy 7ft to 8ft swell. Hard pass.

Friday 24th July morning looks promising again. A 8ft SW swell, 14-second period, with a moderate cross-offshore wind from the south. Energy is a very strong 3031. The report calls it marginal, but that period and wind direction could clean it up. The afternoon is a different story: 10ft swell with an 18-second period, but cross-shore wind and chop. The energy is a massive 7756, but the quality is questionable.

Saturday 25th July morning is a real standout. A 8ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period, a gentle offshore wind from the ESE, and energy of 3681. This is an excellent, clean, powerful swell for experienced surfers. The afternoon is too big again at 12ft.

Sunday 26th July is the big daddy of the run. A 13ft SW swell with a 14-second period, glassy conditions, and energy of 6100. The report says it’s too big for this break, so unless you’re a top-tier charger on a big-wave gun, it’s a day for the camera. The afternoon holds at 12ft with clean cross-offshore wind.

Monday 27th July sees the swell dropping to 7ft with light cross-shore wind. Energy is 1174. A bit softer, but still a solid option for the intermediate crowd, though the wind is a bit messy.

So, the true standouts are the mornings of Thursday 16th July and Saturday 25th July. Thursday has excellent conditions, a solid 8ft SW swell, light winds, and strong energy, making it a top pick for experienced surfers. Saturday has a slightly bigger, longer-period swell and a gentle offshore wind, which will produce beautifully groomed lines. Both are for the hardened crew.

Rusty.
