Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doring Bay over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Doring Bay. This is a self-contained look, just for this spot, and we’ve got a real mixed bag coming our way. The water is sitting at 56°, which is a bit colder than we usually get this time of year – a good 3° cooler, so don't be shy with the extra rubber.
The first real chance to get wet is Saturday the 11th. We’ve got a solid 6ft swell rolling in from the SSW, with a 12-second period. The combined energy is pumping at 1057, so there’s some grunt in the water. The wind is a cross-off from the S at 9 mph, keeping things clean. This is excellent for experienced surfers only, as it’s a bit of a handful. If you’re a beginner, sit this one out.
Sunday the 12th fades quickly. The swell drops to 4ft and the wind goes onshore, making things messy. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are tiny, with waist-high dribble at best, and the energy is weak (215 to 310). The wind is glassy at times, but there just isn't enough push to get excited about.
Then things ramp up. Wednesday the 15th afternoon sees the swell start to build, hitting 5ft with a very long 16-second period from the SW. The energy jumps to 1300, but the wind is a moderate cross-off at 12 mph. It’s a preview of what's to come.
Thursday the 16th is where it gets serious. The morning brings a 10ft swell from the SW, with a 14-second period and a massive 2774 energy. That is a lot of water moving. This is expert-only territory, and even then, the wind is a cross-shore, so it’s not going to be perfect. The afternoon stays big at 8ft. Friday the 17th holds strong at 8ft, and the wind is a clean cross-off, making for some proper heavy waves for the experienced crew.
The standout window is Saturday the 18th. The morning is pure magic. We’re looking at a 8ft SSW groundswell with a 14-second period, and the wind is offshore from the E at 9 mph. The energy is thumping at 2444. This is the best the forecast has to offer. The reef should be handling that long period very well, giving you some proper bowls. The afternoon stays clean with an offshore breeze, dropping slightly to 7ft. Crowds are sometimes a thing here, so expect a few others who saw this coming.
Sunday the 19th through Monday the 21st is a write-off. The wind swings onshore from the NW, and the swell is all over the place, with energy dropping and then spiking to 1838 on the 21st with a messy 10ft. Not worth it.
Then we get a second pulse of even bigger, more dangerous surf. Tuesday the 22nd is no joke. Morning sees a 16ft SW groundswell with a 15-second period and an insane 10444 energy reading. That is a monster. The wind is cross-off, but the size is so big it’s only for the absolute elite. This continues through the week, with 13ft, 12ft, and 10ft swells, all with massive energy. Unless you are a seasoned big-wave charger, you are better off watching from the beach.
The final glimmer of hope is Sunday the 26th. The swell drops back to a more manageable 8ft from the SW, with a 12-second period. The wind is a light cross-off from the NE at 6 mph, and the energy is a solid 1427. It’s another excellent session for experienced surfers to close out the run.
So, to sum it up: the best of the best is Saturday the 18th. Get on it. The rest of the first week has some big, clean waves for experts, but the 18th has the best combo of size, period, and wind. The second half of the forecast is pure big-wave territory.
Rusty.
