The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty.
We’ve got a solid stretch of swell coming into Doring Bay, but you gotta pick your spots because the wind is gonna be the deciding factor. Water temp is running about normal for the season.
The clear winner here is Thursday morning, 16 July. We’ve got a quality SW groundswell running at 8ft with a 13-second period (moderate energy), and the wind is offshore out of the SE at just 3 mph. That’s gonna glass the reef up nicely. This is proper, clean, powerful surf for experienced surfers only. Doring Bay can get a crowd when the word gets out, so expect some company on the peak.
If that’s a bit heavy for you, the Wednesday morning (15 July) is a much better call. The swell is a manageable 4ft from the SW with a very long 16-second period and glassy conditions. That’s a dreamy, clean wave with excellent energy.
Into the following week, the size jumps again. Tuesday, 21 July morning has a big SSW swell at 8ft with a 16-second period, but the wind is a light cross-shore, so the face won’t be perfect. Then Thursday, 23 July sees the swell hit 10ft, which is simply too big for this break—only the crew with no fear need apply.
Sunday, 26 July is another big day: 10ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period and clean cross-offshore wind. That’s a massive amount of energy, and again, it’s expert territory only.
The final days drop back under 6ft with moderate winds, offering decent but not standout conditions.
So, lock in Thursday, 16 July morning as the pick of the forecast. For a smaller, glassy session, hit Wednesday, 15 July morning. The big stuff late in the month is for the brave.
Rusty.
