The Lowdown
Alright, let's get into it. This is Rusty, and I'm looking at the next couple of weeks for Doring Bay.
Right off the bat, we've got some action. Saturday morning the 18th of July is a quiet start with 4.3ft swell from the SW and a period of 10 seconds, but the wind is glassy from the north. That's proper clean, and the combined energy is a moderate 393. It's a reef break, so that long period is a good thing here. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
The real standout in the first week is going to be Sunday the 19th of July morning. The swell is a bit smaller at 3.9ft, but it's got a 12-second period from the SW, and the wind is a clean cross-off from the S. The combined energy bumps up to 596, and the guidance says it's a very good forecast. This is the pick of the first few days.
We get a bit of a lull Monday afternoon, but Tuesday morning the 21st of July sees a drop in size to 2.9ft, though the period jumps to a very long 15 seconds from the SW. The energy is moderate at 528, but it's a cross-shore wind, so it might be a bit lined up. Not the best, but it's there.
Then things get interesting. Wednesday the 22nd of July morning shows a solid 6.9ft SW swell at 13 seconds, but the wind is onshore from the WNW. That's a bit of a mess. The energy is strong at 1527, but the conditions are marginal. This one is for the experienced crew only.
Now, here's the big one. Friday the 24th of July morning. We're talking 9.8ft of SW groundswell with a 16-second period. The wind is offshore from the SE, and the combined energy is a massive 4717. The file says it's too big for this break, and honestly, for a reef, that's a serious paddle-out. This is for experts only. If you're not solid, stay on the beach. That Saturday morning the 25th is still 9.8ft, but with a 35 km/h cross-off wind from the ENE. It's still huge, but the wind makes it a bit more manageable for the brave.
There's a gap after that, but then Sunday the 26th of July morning brings it back down to a much more reasonable 4.3ft from the SSW with a 15-second period. The wind is a clean cross-off from the SSE. The energy is still strong at 1807, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. This is a solid second-week option.
Monday the 27th of July afternoon is a real gem. The swell is 6.9ft from the SW at 15 seconds, and the wind goes glassy from the NW. The combined energy is 1967, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. That late afternoon session could be magic.
The rest of the second week fades out. There's a bit of a run of smaller, average days, with a little bump on the 1st of August morning with 4.3ft from the WSW and a clean cross-off wind from the NE. Not a standout, but a fun little surf to end the run.
Overall, the best bet is Sunday the 19th of July for a clean, fun day, and then the experts should circle the 27th of July afternoon for some serious glassy power.
