Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on offer for Doring Bay over the next couple of weeks. This is a reef setup that's exposed to the SW, and it's fairly consistent, which is good news.
The pattern starts slow, but don’t get discouraged. We’ve got a pretty solid run of clean, punchy conditions building through the first week if you’ve got the skills to handle it. The consolidated swell energy is moderate to strong through the first week, hitting some impressive numbers in the thousands (2708) mid-week, so there's plenty of push behind these waves.
We kick off on Sunday, July 5th. It’s a small day, with 3ft of SW swell. The wind is cross-off from the ENE at 9 mph, keeping things clean. It’s more of a warm-up session. The combined swell energy is moderate (474).
The real action starts to build on Monday, July 6th. The morning is a standout. We’ve got a clean 7ft swell from the WSW with a 12-second period, and light ENE wind at just 3 mph – right off the land. This is solid intermediate-to-expert territory, with strong moderate energy (1071) behind it. This is a serious morning session for anyone comfortable in that size.
Tuesday morning, July 7th, is another cracker. The swell holds at 6ft from the SW and the wind goes glassy from the SSE at 3 mph. Absolutely pristine conditions. The combined energy is strong (1255), and a 12-second period means good shape. The crowds can be a thing here sometimes, so get in early.
By Wednesday, July 8th and Thursday, July 9th, the swell pushes up over 8ft to 8ft, with periods hitting 13 and 14 seconds. The combined energy is very strong, climbing past 2700. This is expert territory for sure. Morning winds stay cross-off and light, keeping the surface clean. On Thursday morning, that 8ft SW swell with a 14-second period is proper groundswell, best for this reef setup. Don't even think about bringing a beginner.
We get a bit of a breather heading into the 10th of July. Friday morning stays clean with 7ft SSW swell. Friday afternoon is excellent though, with offshore wind from the east at 9 mph and 6ft of clean, groomed surf. That’s a classic evening session.
After that, things taper off. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell drop below 5ft. The wind goes a bit funky, but Sunday morning on the 12th is glassy with a 4ft SSW swell (385 energy) – a small, clean longboard morning.
There’s a gap from the 13th through the 16th where it goes pretty marginal. The swell dips below 3ft and the winds get strong and onshore. The 15th and 16th are a write-off with strong winds from the NW making a mess of things. The combined energy is still moderate, but the quality is gone.
Then we get an interesting long-range potential. On Saturday, July 18th, the wind goes completely glassy with a 7ft SW swell (1274 energy). That’s a solid, clean wave for experts. Then Sunday the 19th shapes up nicely with a 6ft SW swell and a 15-second period – very long period groundswell. With light offshore wind from the east at 3 mph, this could be something special at Doring Bay. Keep an eye on that one, but remember, it’s far out so things can change.
Alright, the pick of the week is hands down Tuesday morning, July 7th for the glassy conditions and solid swell. The best quality option overall is probably the Monday morning, July 6th for the combination of size, clean wind, and less intense swell.
