Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the upcoming swell window for Doring Bay. We've got a solid run of swell on the cards, but with a bit of a slow fade towards the end.

The water is sitting at 56°, which is a fair bit colder than usual for this time of year – a solid 3° below the norm, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit.

The action kicks off on Saturday, July 4th. The morning will see a clean 3 ft SW swell with a moderate 11-second period. The combined energy is moderate (385). Wind is a light cross-off from the NE, keeping things tidy. Not a huge standout, but a nice way to ease into it. The afternoon holds a similar 4 ft SW swell at 9 seconds, still clean.

Sunday the 5th is a bit of a mixed bag. A long-period 14-second SW swell rolls in overnight, building energy to 474, but the swell drops to 3 ft in the morning. It’s a cross-off from the ENE, so the quality is marginal. The afternoon gets messier with a cross-shore wind and a drop to poor conditions. Not the day to write home about.

Now, here’s the one you’ve been waiting for. Monday, July 6th, is the standout. We’ve got a solid 7 ft WSW groundswell with a 12-second period, pumping a very strong combined energy of 1174. The real treat? Glassy conditions in the morning with an easterly breeze at just 3 mph. This is classic Doring Bay at its best – clean, powerful, and lined up. This is for experienced surfers only though; 7 ft on a reef is serious business. The afternoon holds the same size and is still clean with a light S cross-off.

Tuesday the 7th follows up with another excellent morning session: 6 ft SW swell at 12 seconds, clean with a light SSE cross-off. Energy is still very strong at 1331. The afternoon gets a bit choppy with a stronger SSW wind, so get it early.

Wednesday the 8th is another big day: 7 ft SW groundswell at 13 seconds, even more energy (2642). Morning looks excellent with light SE cross-off winds. The afternoon holds size but becomes marginal with a shift in wind. Again, this is expert territory – big, powerful reef waves.

Thursday the 9th still has plenty of size – 7 ft SW at 14 seconds, energy at 1604. The morning is a bit blown out from the ENE, but the afternoon turns golden: light SSE wind and clean conditions for a 6 ft SW swell. That late session should be world-class.

Friday the 10th the swell backs off to 5-5 ft. The morning is mediocre with a cross-on breeze, but the afternoon goes glassy with a light W wind. That’s a sneaky good session for intermediate surfers on the smaller SSW swell.

Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th see the swell drop to 3-5 ft, with cleaner conditions again – good for cruising, but nothing that will blow your mind. The combined energy drops to moderate (524-823).

From Monday the 13th onward, the swell fades to 3-4 ft. There are a few glassy windows (Monday morning, Tuesday morning) with small, clean surf, but the energy is low. The wind goes onshore and messy from Wednesday the 15th through the weekend, with rain and strong winds – that’s kite-surfing weather, not paddle surfing.

After that, there’s a final pulse on Thursday the 16th with a 7 ft SSW swell, but it’s accompanied by light rain and a fresh S breeze. It’s a marginal call, and crowds are possible at Doring Bay as word gets out.

So to sum it up: Monday the 6th is the absolute gem – glassy, solid 7 ft groundswell with a long period and huge energy. Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th mornings are also top-tier. Get out there early and be ready for a proper reef session. After that, the quality tails off, with only small, clean windows through the second week.

Stay stoked and stay safe on that reef.

Rusty.
