Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming down the pipe at Doring Bay. We’ve got a solid run of waves lined up, so let’s get straight into it.
The water is sitting at 56°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – you’ll want a decent wetsuit.
Right off the bat, Monday morning the 6th is looking clean. Glassy conditions with a light Easterly breeze and a solid 7ft swell out of the WSW. The swell period is 12 seconds, so it’s got some proper energy behind it (combined energy of 1071). This is quality stuff for experienced surfers. The tide will be the main thing to watch here.
Tuesday morning the 7th might just be the standout of the first week. Clean offshore wind from the East, with a 6ft SW swell pushing through at 13 seconds. The energy is even stronger at 1271, and the direction is right in the pocket for this reef setup. It’s going to be good.
Wednesday morning the 8th keeps the run going. Another clean morning with a cross-offshore breeze, and the swell bumps up to 8ft from the SW with a solid 13-second period. The energy jumps way up to 2211. This is powerful, clean surf. Not one for beginners at this size, but for the experienced crew, this is prime.
Thursday morning the 9th is very similar – 8ft of SW groundswell, 14-second period, and clean with a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is still pumping at 2383. It’s another excellent morning.
We get a bit of a drop-off over the weekend. Saturday morning the 11th picks up some cross-onshore wind, and the swell backs down to 6ft, so things get a bit choppier.
Sunday the 12th morning is glassy with zero wind, but the swell drops to 4ft. It’s a smaller, clean day for a mellow session.
The middle of the following week is small and sluggish. Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 15th sees the swell bottoming out around 2ft to 3ft. Not much to get excited about, just small, weak energy. Things do look interesting on the night of Thursday the 16th though, with a glassy morning and a 4ft WSW swell starting to build back up. Keep an eye on that.
Now for the next standout. Jumping ahead to Monday morning the 20th, we see the swell coming back to 6ft from the SW, but the energy is only moderate at 794. The wind is a clean cross-offshore, so it’ll be tidy, but not the power of the first week.
The best on offer? No question, it’s Wednesday morning the 8th and Thursday morning the 9th. That big SW groundswell, combined with those long 13 and 14-second periods, and clean light wind conditions, is going to make Doring Bay pump. The energy readings are massive. This is the window to clear your schedule. The Tuesday morning the 7th is right up there too.
Don’t sleep on Monday the 21st in the arvo either – it’s further out, so less certain, but if that glass-off holds with a 5ft SW swell and 13-second period, the energy is strong at 1616. Worth a mark on the calendar.
Rusty.
