Table - best surf conditions forecast for Doring Bay over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Looks like Doring Bay is about to fire up for a few solid days, but it’s not for the faint-hearted. The water is sitting at 56°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a decent wetsuit. The combined swell energy is massive, hitting 2383 (moderate to strong), so there’s plenty of power in the water right from the start.
Thursday morning is the first real standout. Doring Bay is seeing a clean 8ft SW swell with a 14-second period, which is proper groundswell, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the south at 6 mph. The conditions are glassy and clean, but at this size, it’s strictly for experienced surfers only. The reef setup will handle the long period well, but expect some serious sets. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so you might have a few blokes out, but the quality will be worth it.
Friday morning is even better. The swell drops a touch to 8ft, still from the SSW, but the wind goes glassy from the SW at just 3 mph. That’s about as clean as it gets. The energy is still strong (1951), and the wave shape should be excellent. Again, this is not a beginner wave.
Saturday morning holds up well with a 6ft SSW swell, a clean cross-off from the ENE at 6 mph, and combined energy at 1192. Still a solid, punchy wave for intermediates and up.
Sunday morning sees the swell easing to 4ft, but the NE wind at 3 mph keeps it glassy and clean. The energy drops to 634, so it’s a bit more manageable, but still a fun, clean option for the weekend.
There’s a bit of a gap after Monday afternoon as the swell drops right off, with only small, poor-quality surf through Tuesday and Wednesday. But then Wednesday afternoon brings a surprise: a 5ft SW swell with a very long 17-second period, and clean cross-off winds. The energy jumps to 1395, and the wave quality looks excellent again. That’s a great option for the more experienced crew.
Thursday the 16th morning is another standout. The swell pushes back up to 8ft from the SW, 14-second period, with light S winds at 6 mph. The energy is 2356, and it’s clean. This is one of the best on offer in the whole outlook.
Friday the 17th gets windy, with fresh southerly breezes at 19 mph, making the surf messy. Saturday the 18th sees a cleaner offshore from the ESE at 9 mph, but the swell is down to 4ft, so it’s small but clean.
Sunday the 19th is a big one: an 12ft WSW swell rolls in, but it’s too big for this break. The wind is offshore from the east, but the sheer size makes it a no-go.
Monday the 20th morning is back to manageable: an 8ft SW swell, glassy conditions with WSW winds at 3 mph, and energy at 1510. Excellent for experienced surfers.
After that, the outlook gets messy with onshore winds and big, unruly swells into the second week. The best windows are definitely the mornings of Thursday 9th, Friday 10th, and Thursday 16th, with Wednesday 15th afternoon as a dark horse.
Rusty.
