Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, folks, Rusty here. Let's break down what Doring Bay has cooking.
The water's sitting at 56°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, so don't forget a thick suit.
The action kicks off on Sunday, July 5th, but it's pretty average. A 4ft swell from the WSW with a cross-shore breeze and weak energy. Not worth the paddle.
Now, Monday, July 6th is where it's at. Monday morning is a real standout. Swell picks up to 7ft from the WSW, and with an ENE wind going glassy, it's gonna be pure silk. The energy is moderate, and the 12-second period means the waves will have some punch. This is excellent for experienced surfers, but at over 5ft, it's a bit much for the beginners. The glassy offshore wind Monday morning at Doring Bay is your best early call. The afternoon holds clean 7ft surf too, but with a bit more breeze.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the quality high. Another glassy morning with a 6ft SW groundswell and a 13-second period. The energy is strong. This is clean, lined-up surf. The afternoon gets a little bumpy but remains rideable at 7ft.
Midweek, Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th, sees the biggest, most powerful swell of the first week. Expect 8ft to 8ft from the SW with long periods of 13 and 14 seconds. The energy readings are very strong. This is hardcore surfer territory—over 8ft is for experts only. The morning sessions are clean with light offshore breezes, but the afternoons get messy. This long-period groundswell will wrap nicely into Doring Bay's reef, giving some long, grinding waves.
Friday the 10th is still good in the morning with 8ft surf and clean conditions, though the energy drops a bit. The weekend from the 11th gets blown out with strong onshore winds, so take a break.
We then hit a quiet spell. From Sunday the 12th to Wednesday the 15th, the swell drops right off to under 4ft. There are a few glassy mornings, but the wave energy is weak. Not really worth the trip. This gap runs for about four days.
Things perk up again on Thursday the 16th with a return of 5ft swell and very good, clean conditions. Friday the 17th follows suit with similar 4ft surf.
And here's the long-range highlight. Look at Saturday, July 18th. The morning brings a solid 7ft swell from the WSW with a 15-second period (very long period groundswell) and a light cross-off breeze. The energy is massive. That afternoon, it actually gets bigger at 10ft from the WSW with a 14-second period. At that size (over 8ft), it's only for experts. The wind and tide are favorable, but the swell is predicted to be too big for the break. This is one for the big-wave chargers only, and it's 13 days away, so keep a close watch. Sunday the 19th drops back to 8ft but with strong winds making it rough.
Your best bet for this period is Monday morning, July 6th for a clean, glassy 7ft session with good shape. If you're an expert, the Thursday the 9th morning surf is also a ripper for power and size.
Rusty out.
