The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, checkin' in with the outlook for The Hoek.
Right off the bat, we've got a bit of a slow start. The first couple of days, the swell's there but it's lookin' marginal, so we're really waitin' for the good stuff to kick in. The real standout window opens up on Sunday the 13th. That morning, the wind's glassin' off from the ESE at just 6 mph, and we've got a solid 7 ft groundswell from the SW with a long 14-second period. The energy's pumpin' at (2473), and the conditions are set to be excellent for experienced surfers. This is the session to circle on your calendar. The water temp's sittin' around 59°, which is pretty standard for this time of year, nothin' weird there.
Sunday afternoon holds up too, with a clean 6 ft from the SW and a gentle offshore. After that, we see some messy days early next week with strong onshore winds choppin' things up, so you might want to give it a miss. The next real highlight picks up again on Wednesday the 16th with a bigger 8 ft SW groundswell and a moderate offshore breeze. That wave energy is hefty at (3457), but at that size, it's really for the advanced crew only.
Lookin' further out, things start to clean up nicely again. Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st offer up some very good conditions. The glassy morning on the 21st, with a clean 5 ft WSW swell and a 14-second period, is a real treat for anyone who can paddle out. Then we get another big pulse on Wednesday the 23rd, with a 8 ft SW groundswell, a gentle offshore, and massive energy at (3243). That's a late standout, but it's got all the makings of a classic session at The Hoek.
This is an inconsistent spot, so when it fires, it's worth the wait. Don't bother with the flat or choppy days in between. Just pick your moment. Stay stoked.
