Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for Strand (Pipe). Let’s get into it.

The next week and a half is a bit of a mixed bag at Strand. The first few days are pretty average, with some small, weak swell and bumpy wind. Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are looking like write-offs – small 2 ft to 2 ft SW swell with a cross wind and not much energy to speak of (250 to 185). There’s a couple of days to sit out.

Then, hold onto your board. Monday the 6th looks like the real start of the action. We’ve got 4 ft to 5 ft of SW swell rolling in with a decent 12 to 13 second period. The kicker? Glassy conditions, clean as a whistle. The wave energy jumps right up to 500 to 669 (moderate energy) – that’s proper surf. This is a solid option for the intermediate crew, clean and punchy.

Tuesday the 7th keeps that 5 ft SW swell going, with light cross-off winds in the morning – clean as well. The energy stays up around 537.

But the real standout is Wednesday the 8th. The swell holds at 5 ft from the SW, period 13 seconds, and the combined energy hits 1334 (strong). That’s a powerful, solid wave. Morning has clean cross-off winds too. This is the best session of the first week, for sure. This is for the experienced surfers; it's going to be a ripper.

Keep an eye on Thursday the 9th – offshore ESE winds with a 4 ft SSW swell and clean conditions – another very good window.

Now, jump ahead to Friday the 10th of July. We get a bigger push of SSW swell, 5 ft in the morning, 6 ft in the afternoon, with a long 15 to 16 second period. This is groundswell, pure energy. The combined energy rockets to 1865 in the arvo (strong). Excellent conditions for experienced surfers, especially if you can nab a reef or point break for that long-period swell.

Saturday the 11th of July also looks special. Glassy conditions all day with a solid 6 ft to 5 ft S swell. That morning session, with the calm and glassy water, is going to be a dream.

There is a bit of a lull around the 12th and 13th as the swell drops and the onshore wind comes back. Then a big but messy pulse arrives on the 15th – 7 ft SW swell, but with a cross wind making it choppy.

But then, the 16th of July. Save the date. The swell is 7 ft from the SSW, period 15 seconds, and the energy is a massive 2265 (very strong) – that is pumping. And it’s glassy all day. This is expert territory, no question. Big, powerful, clean waves for those who know what they’re doing. That’s the standout of the entire outlook.

To be honest, the best windows for most surfers are Monday the 6th through to Saturday the 11th, with Wednesday the 8th and Saturday the 11th as highlights. For the big-wave crew, Thursday the 16th of July is the main event, but it’s a long way off, so keep an eye on it.

Water temp at Strand is 59°F, which is about 1°F cooler than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a spring suit.

That’s the picture from Strand (Pipe). It looks like a sweet run is coming our way.

Signing off.
Rusty.
