The Lowdown
Alright, mate, Rusty here. Let’s break down the next couple of weeks at Strand (Pipe).
The water is sittin’ at 57°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, about a couple of degrees off the average. You’ll notice it.
The first real standout is Thursday morning, August 20th. It’s a solid 8ft SSW groundswell with a 13-second period, and a light cross-offshore breeze. The energy is moderate to strong at 1,807. Conditions are clean. This is for experienced surfers – the swell’s a bit too much for beginners, but for those who know what they’re doin’, it’s gonna be a ripper. The SW direction is spot on.
Friday morning, August 21st, is also a solid option. The swell drops to 5ft from the SSW, period at 11 seconds, still clean with a light SE cross-off breeze. The energy is 942 (moderate). It’s a step down from Thursday but still very good.
Tuesday, August 25th, is a real beauty. The morning has 4ft SW swell, 13-second period, clean cross-off winds, and by the afternoon it turns glassy with a 14-second period. The energy is moderate. That’s gonna be a long, clean session.
Now, lookin’ further out, there’s a big pulse building. Friday, August 28th, the afternoon sees an 8ft WSW swell with a short 9-second period, and a strong cross-offshore breeze. The energy is 1,544 (strong). Might be interesting for experienced surfers.
Saturday, August 29th, is where it gets serious. The afternoon drops a 12ft SSW swell, 11-second period, with a fresh offshore wind. The energy jumps to 5,383 (very strong). That is big, powerful, and only for experts. The wind is fresh, so it’ll be lined up, but you’d better know what you’re doin’.
After that, it drops back into the 3–4ft range, with some glassy spells on Tuesday, September 1st, and a really nice glassy morning on Thursday, September 3rd, with 4ft WSW swell and a 14-second period. That’s a clean, long-period groundswell.
So, overall: Thursday the 20th is the top pick for the first week, with Tuesday the 25th a close second. For the big wave chargers, Saturday the 29th is the one to circle. The second week is quieter, but Thursday the 3rd looks like a glassy gem.
Rusty.
