Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Yo, Rusty here, lookin' at the charts for Strand (Pipe). Bit of a slow start we got here. First few days are pretty much a write-off. Friday the 3rd and Saturday the 4th are just messy with cross-shore winds and weak, poor surf. Sunday the 5th ain't much better with that cross-onshore breeze. You're better off staying home or goin' for a skate. The water temp is sittin' at 59°, which is about 1° cooler than normal for this time a year, so nothin' too weird, just a little brisk.
Now, Monday the 6th is where things start to get interesting. Monday morning is lookin' like a gem. We got a 5ft SW groundswell with a proper 12-second period, and the wind goes glassy from the ENE at just 3 mph. That's gonna be clean as a whistle. The combined swell energy is moderate at 561, but that glassy morning will make it feel like a different ocean. Tuesday the 7th follows with another glassy morning, same 5ft SW swell, and then Tuesday afternoon turns cross-off with light winds. Both solid sessions.
But the real standout, the one you gotta circle on the calendar, is Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th. Wednesday morning brings a 5ft SW swell, period 13 seconds, with a light cross-off breeze. That's clean, powerful surf with a combined energy of 1311 – that's strong. Thursday the 9th morning is even better for the experienced crew: 6ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and clean offshore wind from the ESE at 12 mph. That is primo, deep-water groundswell with perfect conditions, but with the swell over 5ft, it's gettin' a bit much for beginners. The afternoon of Thursday the 9th pushes up to 7ft from the S, which is expert territory for sure, and the combined energy hits a massive 2157.
We got a good run through the 10th and 11th too, with clean conditions and solid SSW swell in the 3ft to 4ft range. Then things get a bit sketchy again from the 12th onward with more cross and onshore winds, though the morning of the 15th has a tiny 1ft glassy swell that's almost too small to bother with. The morning of the 16th sees a bigger 6ft SSW swell (combined energy 1613) but with cross-winds, so it's gonna be lumpy – better left for the experts or maybe even the kite crew if you're into that.
So, bottom line: Monday 6th morning through to Saturday 11th is your window. Wednesday 8th morning and Thursday 9th morning are the top picks – get out there.
Rusty.
