Updates in  hr  min  s Forecast update imminent

Alright, let's get into it.

The forecast starts off slow for us at Strand. The first real window to get excited about doesn't come until Monday the 6th, with a solid pulse of swell arriving. Before that, we're looking at a couple of days of small, wind-affected junk with a combined energy reading of just 153-233, so don't bother paddling out over the weekend.

Monday morning the 6th is a nice little surprise. The glassy conditions are a major positive, and we've got a clean 1.3m (4ft) SW swell with a decent 11-second period. The combined energy is ramping up to 409 (moderate). It's not huge, but it's clean and will be fun for an intermediate. The water temp is sitting at 15°C (59°F), which is about average for the time of year, so no need for a super thick suit yet.

As we move into Tuesday afternoon the 7th, things get even better. We see a 1.4m (5ft) SW swell with a 12-second period and glassy winds, pushing the energy up to 658. That's looking like a sweet afternoon session. The real standout, though, is Wednesday morning the 8th. That's where it all comes together: a 1.5m (5ft) SW swell, 13-second period, and clean cross-off winds. The combined energy hits a strong 1107, and the surf report says it's excellent for experienced surfers. With that size, it's starting to push into the zone that's better for intermediate to advanced surfers.

Thursday the 9th holds a bit more size, up to 1.7m (6ft) from the SSW, but the wind picks up and the conditions get a little messier. Still, the energy is strong (1300), so if you don't mind some chop, there will be waves.

Friday the 10th through Saturday the 11th see offshore winds making a comeback, with consistent 1.1m to 1.4m (4ft to 5ft) SSW/S swells. The energy backs off a touch to 525-833, but the offshore flow will groom those lines nicely. Good for a relaxed paddle out.

There's a bit of a lull from Sunday the 12th into the middle of the week, with small, weak swells and energy dropping below 300. Not much to write home about, just knee-high dribble.

Now, looking further ahead to Thursday the 16th, we see a new pulse of 1.0m to 1.2m (3ft to 4ft) SW swell arriving with glassy conditions. Energy is back up to 301-393. It's promising, but it's more than a week out, so think of it as a heads-up.

But the real standout of the whole 16-day window is Friday the 17th. This is the one you want to circle on the calendar. We're looking at a 2.2m to 2.3m (7ft to 8ft) SW groundswell with a 13-second period. The wind goes glassy, completely calm. The combined energy is massive, hitting 1816. That is a powerful, clean swell. At over 8ft, this is for experienced surfers only. This is the kind of day where the sandbars at Strand will be doing their thing, and the sets will be long and lined up. It's still almost two weeks away, so forecast confidence is lower, but the potential is undeniable.

After that, the swell drops off quickly through the 18th and 19th, with onshore and cross-shore winds spoiling the shape.

So, bottom line: get yourself out for the Wednesday the 8th morning session, and keep your eyes peeled for that big Friday the 17th. That's the one that could be truly special.

Rusty.
