The Lowdown
Alright, grab your board, and let’s have a proper look at what’s coming our way. The next couple of weeks have a real Jekyll and Hyde feel to them, so we’ll take it day by day.
The first few days are a solid, clean start. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th kick off with a solid SW groundswell at Off The Wall (Ewa). We’re talking a clean 8ft to 6ft swell with that long 13-second period, and the wind is light cross-off or glassy. It’s a proper reef setup, so it’s only for the advanced crew, but the energy is strong (2381 dropping to 835). The water temp is about average for this time of year, so no drama there.
Saturday the 18th gets a bit messy with onshore wind, so we’ll skip that. Sunday the 19th and Monday the 20th morning clean right back up with glassy conditions and a 5ft to 5ft SW swell. It’s more moderate energy (919 down to 541), but for a Sunday morning session, you could do a lot worse.
Then it gets a bit wild. Tuesday the 21st through Thursday the 23rd, a big SW groundswell rolls in, but the wind is howling cross-onshore. We’re looking at 12ft to 8ft with very strong energy (4505 to 1867), but it’s lumpy and choppy. This is more of a kite-surfing show than a paddle-in session.
Friday the 24th sees a bit of a reset with a clean offshore wind and a 6ft WSW swell (1071 energy). It’s a solid option for the experienced.
Now, the real standout starts on Saturday the 25th. Saturday morning is glassy with a 12ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period. The energy is exceptional (5530). Sunday the 26th is clean offshore with a 10ft SW swell (4180 energy). This is that long-period groundswell, so it’s going to be proper lined-up waves at this reef, with long gaps between sets. It’s for experts only, no question.
The energy tapers through Monday the 27th and Tuesday the 28th, but it stays clean and offshore, so you’ll still get a solid 7ft to 7ft ride.
But the real crown jewel, the one that’s got me buzzing, is Thursday the 30th. We’re looking at a massive 16ft SW swell with a 14-second period. The energy is off the charts (9082). The wind is light cross-off, and it’s clean. This is a legendary, boat-only kind of day for the absolute top-level crew. And it carries into Friday the 31st with a 18ft SSW swell, but the data says it might be too big even for this break. That’s a once-in-a-while kind of forecast.
So, for the best on offer: Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th are your prime, clean, big-swell days for experts. And Thursday the 30th is the one to circle on the calendar, but it’s a promise from the long-range, so keep an eye on it.
