Table - best surf conditions forecast for Off The Wall over the next 16 days.
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Off The Wall. This is a heavy reef break, so it’s for the experienced crew only. The water is sitting at 58° right now, which is a bit colder than normal for the time of year, so don’t forget the extra rubber.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but it kicks off this Sunday morning (12 July) with some fun 4ft SSW swell and a nice 11-second period. The wind is light and cross-off, so it’s clean. The combined wave energy is moderate at 967, and it’s got that “very good” feel to it. Sunday afternoon holds steady with 5ft and the same clean conditions.
Monday (13 July) drops a bit to 3ft, but the wind goes glassy – dead calm all day. That’s a treat for this place. The swell is still from the SSW with a 10-second period, and the energy is light (262). It’s still good fun, just smaller.
Tuesday (14 July) is a write-off – the wind turns onshore and the waves are weak and messy. A day to skip.
Now, Wednesday 15 July is where it gets serious. The morning starts with a glassy 4ft SW swell, but the period jumps to a massive 17 seconds. That’s a very long-period groundswell, and the energy is strong at 1149. This is going to be a clean, powerful, walling wave at the reef. By the afternoon, it’s a solid 10ft SW with a 15-second period and a clean cross-off wind. The combined energy is 3820 – that’s proper strong. This is the first standout. For experts only.
Thursday 16 July is still pumping in the morning: 8ft SW, glassy, 13-second period, 2310 energy. The afternoon gets a bit cross-windy and messy, but the morning is excellent.
Friday 17 July holds sizeable – 8ft to 10ft SW – but the wind picks up to a 15 km/h breeze. Still offshore and clean for the afternoon, though. Energy is high (2128). Good for the experienced.
Saturday 18 July is a bit mixed, but the afternoon goes glassy with 6ft SSW swell and a 13-second period. That’s a clean, solid option.
Sunday 19 July is lovely with a glassy 4ft SW swell and 12-second period. Light energy (592), but clean and fun.
Monday 20 July is smaller again, 3ft to 3ft. Clean, but not a standout.
Then, Tuesday 21 July to Wednesday 22 July is the second big standout. Tuesday morning hits with 10ft SW, clean offshore wind, 10-second period, and strong energy (2971). Tuesday afternoon jumps to 12ft SW, 11-second period, and 4667 energy. Wednesday morning is 12ft SW, 14-second period, and 4655 energy – clean and powerful. This is a massive, sustained swell for the experienced. Wednesday afternoon turns onshore, so catch the mornings.
After that, the 23rd and 24th of July are blown out by strong winds – 35 km/h on the 23rd, and 30 km/h on the 24th, but the 24th afternoon has a fresh offshore wind and a massive 12ft SW swell with a 17-second period. The energy is 7262 – that’s very strong, but the wind is strong too. Only for the absolute top-end crew.
The final true standout is Saturday 25 July morning: glassy, 8ft SW, 16-second period, 4354 energy. Perfect. Sunday 26 July morning is also exceptional: 15ft SW, 14-second period, 7326 energy, clean cross-off wind. That’s huge, clean, and powerful – experts only.
The last few days (27 July) drop back to 6ft and 5ft, still clean and fun.
So, to sum it up: the best days are Wednesday 15 July (morning glassy, long-period groundswell) and the stretch of Tuesday 21 July through Wednesday 22 July (big, clean, powerful). The Saturday 25 July morning and Sunday 26 July morning are also world-class for the brave. Get out there if you’ve got the skills.
Rusty.
