Sollys Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.

We’ve got a bit of a classic setup coming. The first few days are a write-off, but once the wind plays ball, we’re in for some serious sessions. The real standout is a monster swell right at the end of the period, but there’s plenty of quality surf to be had before that.

The water temperature is sitting at 57°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll want a decent suit.

The first real chance to get wet won't be until Thursday, the 6th of August. That morning, Sollys wakes up with a solid 12 ft of SW groundswell, with a period of 13 seconds and a gentle offshore SSE wind. The wave energy is pumping at 3672 (moderate to strong). This is proper stuff for experienced surfers, clean and powerful. Thursday afternoon sees the wind swing a little cross-off, but it’s still clean with an 12 ft swell from the SW.

Friday the 7th is a beauty. The morning glass-off is on with a light offshore ESE breeze, 10 ft of SW swell at 14 seconds, and a cleaner energy reading of 4062. The afternoon holds even better, with 12 ft of SW swell and a 15-second period, all clean under a light cross-off breeze. This is as good as it gets for a solid run.

Saturday the 8th is still very good, with 8 ft to 10 ft of clean SW swell, though the wind is cross-off. The energy dips a bit to 2376 in the morning, but it’s still a fun day.

Sunday the 9th is a write-off. The wind is howling at 31 mph, turning the 15 ft swell into a washing machine. This is proper kite-surfing weather, not for a paddle board.

Monday the 10th is tricky. The wind is strong offshore at 25 mph, which makes for a clean face but it’s a battle to get out. The swell has dropped to 7 ft, and the energy is down to 1498. It’s clean, but only for the very fit.

Tuesday the 11th is a nice reset. The swell drops to 5 ft to 6 ft, the wind is light, and the energy is moderate. It’s a fun, cruisy day.

Wednesday the 12th is a gem for the patient. The morning is glassy, with a 5 ft SW swell but a very long 18-second period. This is a proper groundswell that will wrap into the reef. The energy is 1573, and it’s clean. The afternoon stays clean with 6 ft of WSW swell.

Thursday the 13th is another glassy morning, 7 ft of WSW swell at 15 seconds. The afternoon is clean with a cross-off breeze. Lovely.

The surf slowly fades through the weekend of the 15th and 16th. The wind goes onshore, and the swell drops below 5 ft. It’s a quiet patch.

Then we get the big one. On Tuesday the 18th of August, the swell jumps back to 12 ft of SW groundswell with a 12-second period, and the energy is back up to 3407. The wind is clean and cross-off. This is excellent.

But the true standout, the one you mark on the calendar, is Thursday the 20th of August. Sollys is going to be firing. We’re looking at a massive 18 ft of SW swell, period 14 seconds, and the wave energy is an immense 12310. This is an exceptional, very strong event. The wind is offshore at 12 mph, making it clean and powerful. This is strictly for experts only. The afternoon holds 16 ft of the same, with a light cross-off breeze. This is the best day of the period by a long shot.
