Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at the outlook for Magna Tubes. This is an exposed reef break, and it's one for the experienced crew only – no messing around on this wave. The water's sitting at about 64°F, which is close to a couple of degrees colder than usual for this time of year, so you'll want a decent suit on.

The pattern for the next couple of weeks is classic late-July: a big pulse of south-west groundswell rolls through, followed by a mix of smaller, cleaner windows and some right-handers that'll be too blown out for a paddle.

The standout session – the one you circle on the calendar – is Saturday July 11th morning. We've got a solid 10ft SSW groundswell pulsing in with a very long 12 second period (plenty of energy, good long lines), and the wind is glassy. The combined energy is strong at 2545, and the conditions are described as excellent for a crew that knows what they're doing. This is proper, heavy reef riding. Expect some crowd potential as it's an exposed break that often gets people on it.

Moving through the week, the surf drops off. Saturday 11th afternoon goes onshore, and Sunday 12th is a write-off with rain and a stiff onshore breeze. We get a brief clean spot on Monday 13th morning – 6ft east swell with glassy conditions (957 energy) – but it's a much weaker, shorter period wave. Tuesday 14th morning is also glassy with 5ft ESE swell, but the energy is low (467). Wednesday 15th is small but clean under offshore WNW wind with 4ft at 9 seconds.

Now, look out for Thursday July 16th morning. We get a new, powerful 10ft SW swell with a 14-second period – loading up massive energy at 3404. The wind is cross-offshore and clean, making this a serious day for experts. This is probably the biggest, most powerful swell of the run, but the morning session is the pick. The afternoon gets a strong 22 mph breeze. Friday 17th is even bigger – nearly 15ft swells overlapping from SSW and SW – but the winds are cross-shore and choppy. That’s more of a kite-surfing day unless you're a tow-in nut.

There’s a big gap in quality after that. Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th morning have strong onshore winds and messy surf. Things clean up on Sunday July 19th morning with a decent 7ft SSE swell (2227 energy) and clean cross-off northerly breeze, earning a solid score. That’s a good, clean Sunday session for the experienced lot.

From Monday 20th, the swell fades again and we're into a smaller, less consistent spell with 5ft E swells and light offshore winds on the 22nd and 24th. The call on Wednesday July 22nd morning is worth mentioning – 6ft SSW swell with a very long 14 second period and a gentle offshore WNW wind (1542 energy). Clean and lined up.

Then, look ahead to Friday July 24th morning – another standout for the confident surfer: 8ft SSW groundswell, 13 second period, glassy, and 2030 energy. That’s a big, clean reef wave with a long period. Crowds are likely.

Finally, Saturday July 25th afternoon shapes up well with 8ft SW swell (12 secs) and nearly clean cross-offshore wind. Overall, the action is front-loaded with two clear blue-ribbon sessions: the big, glassy July 11th morning and the punchy July 16th morning. The second week is more about picking small morning windows.
