The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. Magna Tubes has been on the radar, and the next couple of weeks have some serious muscle in the water, but you’re gonna have to pick your moments. The standout window is around the 23rd and into the 24th, where the energy really spikes and conditions come together. We’ve got a few other nice pulses, but that’s the one to circle on the calendar.
Monday 17th:
Morning kicks off with a solid 7.5ft SW groundswell, and it’s clean with light cross-off winds. The combined energy is strong at 2115, so you’ll feel the push. This is a proper session for the experienced crew. Afternoon drops right off though – only 3ft of weak, short-period junk. Not worth the paddle.
Tuesday 18th:
The morning is a bit average – 6.9ft but it’s got a marginal feel to it, some clouds and a cross-off breeze. The afternoon is where it’s at: 8.2ft of SW swell, and the energy jumps to 2306. Clean lines, light breeze, and it’s a better call for the advanced surfer. That’s a solid afternoon session.
Wednesday 19th:
Morning is a ripper. 9.8ft SW, offshore wind, glassy, and the energy is strong at 2451. This is clean, powerful, and a top pick for the experienced surfer. But the afternoon gets ugly – wind jumps to 30 km/h, same size swell but the quality is questionable. Get on it early.
Thursday 20th:
This is the day. Morning has 11.5ft SW, light cross-off breeze, and the combined energy is pumping at 4823. That’s strong, powerful surf. The afternoon is even bigger – 13ft, but the wind swings cross-shore and it gets a bit chopped. For the experts, the morning is world-class.
Friday 21st:
Backing off. 8.2ft SW in the morning, but the wind is onshore and it’s marginal. Not the cleanest. Afternoon is similar, a bit smaller, and the cross-onshore wind puts a chop on it. Better to rest up.
Saturday 22nd:
Wind is howling – 25 km/h cross-off, but the surf is still solid at 8.2ft. It’s clean but the wind makes it tricky. The afternoon pushes up to 11.5ft, but it’s same story – windy and challenging. This is not the day for the faint-hearted.
Sunday 23rd:
This is the standout. Morning has 14.8ft of SSW groundswell, with a 14-second period, and the energy is massive – 7830. That’s very strong. The wind is cross-off at 25 km/h, so it’ll be powerful and big, but clean. This is only for experts. The afternoon holds the size at 14.8ft, but the wind goes cross and it’s less organised. Morning is the one.
Monday 24th:
Another gem. 8.2ft of south swell with a very long 16-second period, and it’s glassy – dead calm, light air. The energy is strong at 5492. This is a beautiful, clean, powerful session, but that long period can make it tricky at a reef like this – it might be a bit too straight. Still, for the expert, this is premium.
Tuesday 25th:
The swell drops. 4.9ft in the morning, cross-onshore, choppy. Afternoon is worse – 4.3ft and the wind is up to 25 km/h, creating poor surf. This is a write-off.
Wednesday 26th:
The swell returns with a vengeance. 9.8ft of SSW groundswell with a very long 17-second period in the morning. The energy is strong at 5782, and it’s clean with a light cross-off breeze. This is exceptional, expert-level surf. The long period means it’s going to be powerful and lined up – a proper reef wave. The afternoon gets windier and messier, so morning again is the go.
Thursday 27th:
A bit of a drop. 6.9ft SW, but it’s glassy in the morning – light air, clean. The energy is moderate to strong at 1612. A nice, clean, manageable day for the experienced surfer. The afternoon turns onshore, so it’s a morning-only call.
Friday 28th:
Holding at 6.9ft SW with a cross-off wind, clean but just a bit ordinary. The energy is moderate at 1406. It’s surfable, but nothing to
