Table - best surf conditions forecast for Magna Tubes over the next 16 days.
G'day, this is Rusty. Let's take a look at what Magna Tubes has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
We've got a slow start, so don't rush in. The first few days are a bit rough. Wednesday morning (July 8th) brings a solid 8ft SW groundswell with a 13-second period, but it's choppy with a 20 km/h cross-off wind. The water is sitting at 64°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year. The combined energy is strong (1940). It's not clean enough to get excited about. Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday the swell builds to 12ft, but the wind stays messy, keeping the quality marginal.
Friday morning (July 10th) is where we get a turn. There's a cracking 12ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and the wind swings offshore out of the west at just 10 km/h. The wave energy is very strong (4514). This is proper groundswell with a long period, and on a reef like Magna Tubes, it's going to set up some beautiful, powerful lines. This is for the experienced crew only—anything over 8ft is strictly expert territory. The standouts are Friday morning and Friday afternoon; the wind stays light and cross-off, and the wave quality is excellent. Just a heads up, this spot can get crowded sometimes, so get in early.
Saturday and Sunday (July 11th-12th) are a bust. The wind swings onshore from the east, the swell drops and gets lumpy. A couple of days to sleep in.
Monday (July 13th) offers a bit of a break with a clean 4ft SSW swell and light offshore wind, but it's small and the energy is moderate (630). The swell period drops off later, so Monday morning is the pick for a fun, smaller session.
The next standout arrives a week later, on Friday morning (July 17th). A massive 15ft SW swell with a 13-second period rolls in, and the combined energy is extreme (6741). The wind is cross-off at 30 km/h, which will keep the surface clean, but this is a beast of a swell. Only for the most experienced chargers.
Then, on Saturday morning (July 18th), the swell backs down a bit to 12ft, but it's still solid. The real magic happens Saturday afternoon—the wind goes glassy out of the SSE at just 5 km/h. That's a dead-flat ocean with 10ft SSW groundswell (12 seconds). For a reef break, that's as good as it gets. Another top pick for experienced surfers. Sunday morning (July 19th) keeps the glassy conditions with a smaller 7ft SSW swell—still a great window.
Looking further out, Wednesday morning (July 22nd) is promising: an 8ft SSW groundswell with a very long 15-second period, light NW wind, and clean conditions. That long period at a reef will produce some absolute bombs with big gaps between sets. The energy is strong (3394). Thursday (July 23rd) also looks clean with 8ft SW swell and light winds.
So the real standouts? Friday July 10th—that early offshore session with 12ft clean SSW swell, and Saturday afternoon July 18th—glassy conditions with 10ft groundswell. Both are for advanced surfers only, but they're magic windows if you can handle the size.
This is Rusty, signing off. Get on it.
