Alright, grab your board and listen up. Rusty here, breakin' down what’s cookin’ at Magna Tubes.
Alright, we’ve got a solid run ahead at Magna Tubes this week. The water’s a bit colder than usual for this time of year, sittin' at 63°, so you might wanna grab that extra rubber. The pattern swings from clean, glassy conditions early on to some bigger, more powerful swell, but we've got to navigate a few windy days late in the second week.
First up, Sunday the 5th is a real treat. Morning is crystal clear with a light NNW cross-off breeze, and a clean 5ft swell rolling in from the SE. The wave energy is moderate, coming in around 706. This is pure, clean fun. Then Sunday afternoon turns straight-up glassy with a 3 mph offshore from the SW and 4ft swell. This is as good as it gets for a relaxed session.
Monday the 6th morning steps it up. The swell jumps to 6ft from the SW and the period stretches to 12 seconds – that’s proper groundswell energy. With glassy 3 mph NW wind, it’s going to be excellent for experienced surfers. The energy is strong at 1119. Monday afternoon though, an onshore wind from the ESE messes it up, so get out early.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the good vibes going. Morning has 7ft of SW swell with a clean cross-off, and afternoon, a lighter cross-off from the SSW makes for excellent surfing again. The wave energy is pumping well over 1200.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell push higher to 8ft, but the wind picks up to 16 mph from the WSW, keeping it a bit bumpy. By the afternoon, it’s a solid 10ft, but the same wind keeps it more for the experienced crew.
Now, the standout window is Thursday the 9th through Friday the 10th morning. Thursday morning sees a big 10ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period, and the energy is huge at 6672. The wind is a moderate cross-off, keeping it clean, though the size says experts only. Friday morning is the absolute highlight: glassy conditions, 3 mph ESE breeze, and a massive 12ft swell from the SSW with a 13-second period and energy at 4464. This is the best on offer, no question. Get on it early, because Friday afternoon turns ugly with onshore wind and rain.
We then hit a rough patch from the afternoon of Friday the 10th through to Sunday the 12th morning with onshore winds and rain spoiling the party. Sunday the 12th morning brings a welcome return of glassy conditions, with a clean 4ft SW swell. A perfect recovery session.
Monday the 13th to Wednesday the 15th is a mixed bag. Some decent clean windows with offshore winds, particularly Wednesday morning the 15th with a 5ft easterly swell and offshore 6 mph wind, but the period is a short 6 seconds.
There’s a big gap of poor conditions from the afternoon of the 15th right through the 16th and 17th. Then it gets wild again on the weekend of the 18th and 19th, with huge 13ft swell and howling onshore winds. That’s more for the tow crews or the kitesurfers, as the paddle-in will be a nightmare. The final days of the outlook, the 20th, stay messy with strong cross-onshore winds and choppy surf.
So, for the best bang for your buck, hit Friday morning the 10th for the biggest clean swell, or the glassy windows on the 5th and 12th for a more chilled session.
Rusty.
