The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here, checkin' in with the outlook for the Albatross region. Things are lookin' pretty solid for the next couple of weeks.

We're kickin' off with a bit of a weird one – the water temp at Albatross is a chilly 53°F, which is a whopping 13°F colder than usual for this time of year. That's a serious anomaly, so you'll want a thick steamer if you're heading out.

The first real action is from the 17th of August, Monday morning. We've got a clean 8ft SW swell, with a moderate energy of 1886, and a light cross-off shore wind. The sets are a touch quick at 14 seconds, but it'll be a good one to ease into the week. The wind swings straight offshore by Monday afternoon, making it even cleaner, with a 8ft swell from the WSW.

Tuesday the 18th keeps the goodness going. Solid offshore winds and a 8ft SW swell in the afternoon, pushing the energy up to 2235. This is shaping up to be a proper session.

Wednesday the 19th is a standout. A 10ft SW swell with light cross-off winds in the morning, and the energy is pumping at 2369. This is expert territory, but the surf is clean and powerful. The afternoon gets a bit gusty with a 19 mph offshore, so the morning is your window.

Thursday the 20th is the peak of the first run. We're looking at a 13ft SW swell, with a massive energy of 6007. It's a clean morning with light offshore winds. This is for the experienced crew only – it's big, powerful, and will be thrilling. The 13-second period will give it plenty of punch.

We then have a bit of a drop-off over the weekend, with the swell settling into the 7-10ft range, but still with favourable offshore winds, making for clean, fun waves. The 22nd of August Saturday afternoon sees it jump back to a 10ft SW swell with a moderate offshore wind.

The 24th of August, Monday morning, is a real treat – glassy conditions with a 7ft SSW swell. That's a moment of pure, clean bliss.

Into the second week, the 25th and 26th of August start with solid, clean 8ft to 10ft SW swells, but by the 26th afternoon, the wind swings onshore from the east, making things choppy. The 27th sees a return to cleaner offshore winds with a 5ft to 8ft SW swell.

The real standout of the second week is the 30th and 31st of August. We're looking at a massive pulse of energy. The 30th, Sunday afternoon, brings a 15ft WSW swell with a 10-second period and an energy of 4029, with a strong offshore wind. The 31st, Monday morning, is even bigger – a 13ft SSW swell, a 14-second period, and a powerhouse energy of 7034, with a clean cross-off wind. The afternoon is the real peak, with a 13ft SSW swell, a 14-second period, an energy of 6310, and a clean offshore wind. This is a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but it's looking like the session of the forecast. The 1st of September sees the wind turn nasty onshore from the ENE, so that's a write-off.

Overall, Albatross is firing. The 20th of August and the 31st of August are the true standouts – big, clean, and powerful. Get out there.

Rusty.
