The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here, lookin' at the next couple of weeks for Tubes. It's a reef and point set-up that likes a solid SSW to SW swell, and it's a consistent spot, so when it's on, it's on. But we've got a bit of a slow start before the real juice arrives.
The water temp is sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer on.
We're lookin' at a bit of a slow start for the first couple of days. Wednesday, July 15 is pretty ordinary. The morning has a small 4ft SW swell, but the wind is cross-off and the wave energy is weak (206). The afternoon builds a little to 6ft, but it's still marginal. Nothing to get excited about yet.
Thursday, July 16 is where things start to get interesting. The morning brings a solid 10ft SW groundswell, with a very long period of 14 seconds. The wind is glassy, and the wave energy is ramping up strong (3095). This is a standout for experienced surfers only. The afternoon holds at 8ft with clean offshore winds. This is the first real good window.
Friday, July 17 morning continues the trend with a 10ft SW swell and glassy conditions. The energy is strong (2160). This is still expert territory. The afternoon gets a bit messy with a cross-on wind, so make the most of the morning.
Saturday, July 18 backs off a bit. The morning has a 5ft S swell, but it's glassy and clean. It's a good size for intermediates, but the swell direction isn't ideal. The afternoon drops further to 3ft but with a clean offshore wind.
Sunday, July 19 is a great call. The morning has a 8ft SW swell with clean conditions. The afternoon is a standout: a 10ft SW swell with a strong offshore wind, making for clean, punchy waves. The energy is strong (2951). This is a solid day for experienced surfers.
Monday, July 20 is a good day for intermediates. The morning has a 6ft SW swell, glassy and clean. The afternoon holds at 6ft with clean cross-off winds. Super consistent.
Tuesday, July 21 is the big one. The morning is exceptional: a massive 15ft SW groundswell, glassy, with very strong wave energy (10442). This is for experts only. The afternoon hits a peak with a 20ft SW swell, clean cross-off conditions, and the highest energy we see (13584). This is a true standout for the hardcore crew.
Wednesday, July 22 stays big. The morning has an 12ft SW swell with clean offshore wind. The afternoon holds at 8ft with a gentle offshore. Both are excellent for experienced surfers.
Thursday, July 23 is a big day but a bit tricky. The morning has an 18ft SW swell with cross-off wind and marginal conditions. The afternoon drops to 15ft but is clean. Experts only, and you'll need to pick your window.
Friday, July 24 morning is glassy with a 13ft SW swell. The afternoon turns cross-shore, so the morning is your best bet.
Saturday, July 25 is a nice drop back. The morning has a 6ft SSW swell, glassy and clean. The afternoon has a 6ft SW swell with a clean offshore wind. Both are very good, clean waves for intermediates.
Sunday, July 26 morning has an 8ft SW swell with a gentle offshore, clean and excellent. The afternoon gets a bit cross-shore again.
Monday, July 27 morning is glassy with a 6ft SW, very clean. The afternoon turns cross-shore.
Tuesday, July 28 is another strong day. The morning has a 10ft SW swell with a 15-second period and a clean offshore wind. The afternoon holds with a stronger offshore. Both are excellent for experienced surfers.
Wednesday, July 29 morning is a diamond in the rough. A 8ft SW swell with glassy conditions. But the afternoon gets messy with rain and a strong cross-onshore wind.
Thursday, July 30 is a write-off. Strong cross-onshore winds and choppy conditions all day.
So, the best of the best? Thursday, July 16 morning for that first real taste of clean, long-period groundswell. And then Tuesday, July 21 is the absolute standout for the big wave chargers. That 20ft swell with clean wind is just ridiculous. Further out, Tuesday, July 28 looks like another solid, clean day for the experienced crew.
Keep in mind that the long-period swells and the massive energy days (over 10,000) are going to make the rip at the point strong. Paddling out will be easier between sets, but you better be confident.
Rusty.
