Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tubes over the next 16 days.

The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s on the table for Tubes, our sheltered reef and point setup. The water is running a wild 56°F, which is a staggering 10°F colder than average for this time of year – so you’ll be wanting a thick wetsuit, no question.

The next couple of days are a bit of a write-off. Friday morning kicks off with small cross-onshore wind ripples and the surf is only marginal at best. Friday afternoon gets even worse. Saturday stays messy with strong cross-offshore winds. Sunday morning, though, things start to turn. The wind swings offshore and the swell is a solid 8ft from the SW with a decent 11-second period and very good surf conditions forecast. The combined energy is moderate (1764). That Sunday morning looks like the first real window for a clean session.

Monday morning keeps the good run going – offshore wind, 7ft SW swell at 12 seconds, and clean conditions. The energy is moderate (1098). Monday afternoon stays clean with offshore winds.

The standout slot is Tuesday the 25th of August. That morning, the wind goes glassy, the swell bumps up to 10ft from the SW with a long 14-second groundswell, and the energy is strong (3420). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers – the big, long-period swell at Tubes means beautifully shaped, powerful waves. Tuesday afternoon is also excellent with clean conditions.

Wednesday the 26th takes a dive – fresh onshore winds and lumpy conditions. Not worth it. Thursday the 27th brings a glassy morning with a smaller 3ft S swell at a very long 16 seconds, and the energy is moderate (1021). That’s a clean, mellow session. Friday the 28th is glassy in the morning but the swell is small.

The next big highlight is Saturday the 29th of August. Morning has offshore wind and 8ft SW swell, and the afternoon gets even better with a 12ft SW swell and excellent conditions for experienced surfers. The energy is strong (2134). That afternoon is a top pick.

Sunday the 30th is blown out by strong winds. Monday the 31st is small and marginal. The first few days of September are poor, with small onshore junk.

Then, look out for the start of September. Wednesday the 2nd of September morning has a fresh offshore wind and a 5ft SSW swell with an incredibly long 18-second period – that’s a powerful groundswell. The energy is a very strong 2452. It’s marginal due to the fresh wind, but the potential is there. Thursday the 3rd of September brings a massive 25ft WSW swell with a 13-second period and an enormous energy of 18025. That’s expert-only, huge, and extremely powerful. The wind is offshore but fresh, so it’s clean but heavy. Friday the 4th is still big but the wind goes cross-onshore, roughening things up.

Saturday the 5th of September morning is a nice glassy wind-down with 5ft SSW swell and moderate energy (929) – a clean, fun session to finish the run.

The clear best on offer is Tuesday the 25th of August for the combo of glass, size, and long-period SW groundswell. The very big stuff on the 3rd of September is for absolute experts only.

Rusty out.
