Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with the long-range look at Tubes. This run is a proper tale of two halves, so listen up.
We’ve got a slow start, but hold tight because when it fires, it really fires. The early part of the week is all about building energy, with the real gem looking like Monday morning the 6th. The water’s sitting at a cool 63°, which is a bit colder than we’d normally expect for this time of year, so you’ll want the thick rubber.
Right, the big story is the pulse that hits us on Thursday the 9th. We’re talking a solid 10ft of SSW groundswell with a 14-second period – that’s proper energy (3423), and the wind’s looking glassy or light offshore from the SW. That’s expert territory for sure; anything over 8ft is for the big dogs only. That Thursday morning and afternoon are the clear standouts. The following Friday the 10th holds similar size but the cross-shore wind will chop it up a bit.
There’s a bit of a lull after that weekend, with a few small, weak days where you might get a knee-high dribbler if you’re desperate, but honestly, it’s not worth paddling out for. The energy drops right off into the 100s and below on the 13th and 14th.
But don’t write this forecast off. Look towards Friday the 17th of July. That’s our big, long-range potential. We’re seeing a massive 12ft to 13ft SW swell showing up with energy readings over 4500. That’s a serious amount of water moving. The morning of the 17th looks glassy, which would be unreal, but that’s over a week away, so keep an eye on it. The Saturday the 18th afternoon also looks excellent with a clean 7ft and offshore wind.
So, to wrap it up: the middle of next week is for the experienced crew only, and that swell on the 17th could be an absolute belter if the conditions line up. Until then, pick your windows.
Rusty.
