Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tubes over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and we’ve got a ripper of a run coming up at Tubes. This is a reef and point set-up that loves a solid SSW groundswell, and the next couple of weeks are going to deliver plenty of that. The water’s sitting at 63°, which is about 3° cooler than usual for this time of year – so a bit of a chill in the air, but nothing a good wetsuit won’t fix.
The first proper call is Friday morning, July 10th. We’re looking at a solid 12 ft SSW groundswell, with a long 13-second period, pumping a huge amount of energy into the bay (4121). The wind is a light W cross-off, which will keep the faces clean. That’s expert territory at that size, but the power is undeniable. Friday afternoon gets even better: the wind drops to a glassy 5 km/h from the SW, and the swell holds at 12 ft – just magic conditions for the experienced crew.
Saturday the 11th drops a notch to 10 ft, but the wind swings E and cross-on, so the quality fades. Still rideable for the keen, but not the standout.
Sunday the 12th is a write-off – the swell drops to 6 ft, wind is cross-on, and the period shortens. Don’t bother.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th offer small, clean waves (4 ft to 2 ft), but it’s more of a recovery session. Energy is low (286 down to 100). Not much to write home about.
Wednesday the 15th is a mixed bag – morning is messy with a short 7-second period, but the afternoon turns glassy again with a clean 4 ft. Still, it’s ordinary.
Now, here’s the big one. Thursday the 16th sees a new pulse of 10 ft SSW groundswell, 13 seconds, and the wind is a clean W cross-off in the morning and a glassy offshore SW in the afternoon. Energy is roaring (2817). That’s going to be a fantastic session for experienced surfers. Friday the 17th holds at 7 ft in the morning with light cross-off wind, but the afternoon gets blown out by a 30 km/h WSW – so get out early.
Then we hit the giant. Saturday the 18th is monstrous: 20 ft in the morning, 18 ft in the afternoon, with a 12-14 second period. The energy readings are off the charts (10027 and 13389). The wind is cross-off but strong – 35 km/h in the morning. This is for absolute experts only. The raw power is staggering, but the conditions will be challenging.
Sunday the 19th is still big (13 ft) but the wind goes cross-on from the ENE, so it’s gonna be messy and choppy. Not recommended.
Monday the 20th offers a clean 5 ft with light offshore wind – a nice cool-down session.
The final standout lands on Tuesday the 21st morning: a glassy 8 ft SSW groundswell, with a very long 14-second period. The energy is 2814, and the wind is dead calm from the NW. That’s going to be a beautiful, clean, powerful session for strong intermediates and above. Wednesday the 22nd morning is another glassy gem – 12 ft, 16-second period, energy 5501. That’s about as good as it gets, but remember, with that long period, the waves might be a bit more walled-up at the beach – a reef and point like Tubes will handle it perfectly.
The rest of the week into the 24th and 25th stays big (10 ft to 15 ft) but the wind gets tricky – cross-on or onshore. Still, the 25th afternoon turns glassy again with a 10 ft SW swell, so keep an eye on that.
Overall, the absolute best windows are Friday July 10th afternoon, Thursday July 16th, and Tuesday July 21st morning. The giant Saturday July 18th is a spectacle for the brave. Crowds are a possibility at Tubes – it’s a consistent spot that draws a crew, so expect some company on the peak.
Rusty.
