Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tubes over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but the back half of this run is where the magic happens. First surf worth paddling out for won’t be until Tuesday morning, so the first few days are a write-off.
Alright, Tuesday morning, 14 July. Tubes is looking clean with a glassy surface and a 5ft swell from the ESE. The water’s sitting at 64°, which is a touch colder than usual for this time of year, so a 3/2 steamer might be the call. The combined energy is moderate (592). Not a standout, but a decent little session to get the arms moving.
Wednesday morning is tiny, not worth a mention. Wednesday afternoon, Tubes has a short, weak 4ft SW swell (271) but it’s clean with offshore wind. Ordinary but rideable.
Now, Thursday morning, 16 July. This is where it gets real. Tubes has a solid 10ft SW groundswell, period 14 seconds, and it’s glassy. The energy is strong (3119). This is big, powerful stuff – experts only. The swell is long-period, so it’ll be lining up nicely on this reef and point setup, but expect long lulls between sets. Thursday afternoon is similar, 8ft and clean with offshore wind. That morning session is the first true standout.
Friday morning, 17 July, is pushing 13ft SW, but with a moderate breeze and cross-off wind, it’s more for the brave. The energy is very strong (4663). It’s raw and heavy. The afternoon gets messy with rain and lumpy cross-shore wind. Not the best.
Saturday, 18 July, is a write-off with strong onshore winds and choppy conditions. Sunday, 19 July, settle down with a clean 4ft S swell (907) and light cross-off winds. Pleasant, but not a highlight.
Monday, 20 July, is small and clean. Nothing special.
Tuesday, 21 July, gets ugly again with a strong 15ft SW swell and onshore winds. Kite surfers might love it, paddle surfers should stay on the beach. Wednesday, 22 July, is big and onshore, marginal.
Now, the big one: Thursday, 23 July afternoon. Tubes has a 8ft SSW swell, 14 second period, with gentle offshore wind. The energy is very strong (2825). It’s clean and excellent for experienced surfers. This is the second true standout.
Friday, 24 July, keeps pumping. Morning has a 10ft SW swell with 15 second period and moderate offshore wind (3333). The afternoon is even better: 7ft SSW, 18 second period – that’s a very long-period groundswell – with light offshore wind (5389). That afternoon session is long, clean, and powerful. Experts only.
Saturday, 25 July, is big but onshore, so not great.
And then Sunday, 26 July. This is the jackpot. Tubes has a massive 21ft SW swell, 13 second period, with gentle offshore wind. The energy is extreme (12403). Conditions are clean and exceptional for expert surfers. The afternoon is similar at 20ft. This is the absolute standout of the whole 16 days – massive, clean, and powerful. Not for the faint-hearted.
Monday, 27 July, still has a solid 12ft SSW swell, glassy in the morning, clean in the afternoon. A great way to finish the run.
So, the two true standouts: Thursday morning, 16 July, and Sunday, 26 July. Both at Tubes. Both for experts only. The rest is a mix of clean but smaller days or big and messy. Get out there if you’ve got the nerve.
Rusty.
