Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tubes over the next 16 days.
G'day, Rusty here with the Imperial take. We've got a solid run of swell on the way for Tubes, but you've got to pick your moments. The water's sitting a bit colder than normal for this time of year at 18°, so you might want the thickest wetsuit you've got.
It all kicks off Tuesday afternoon, July 7th, with a clean 7ft SW groundswell. The period's a juicy 12 seconds and the wind's light offshore – that's a beautiful combo. Combined energy is sitting at a solid moderate 1430, and the break is sheltered, so it'll be holding that energy well. This is a consistent reef and point setup, so it'll be working. Crowds are possible here, so get out there and claim your spot.
Wednesday, July 8th, the swell jumps up but the wind gets a bit messy. Morning has a 8ft SW swell with a 13-second period, but the wind's cross-off at 9 mph. It's still surfable, but not the gem of the run. By the afternoon, it's 10ft SW with that long 13-second period, but a fresh 19 mph cross-off wind will take the shine off for paddle surfing – this setup might look more interesting for kite surfing than a standard session.
Now, here's the standout. Thursday, July 9th, is the one to circle. Morning brings a 12ft SW swell with a 14-second period – that's a proper long-period groundswell. Combined energy is a strong 4259. The wind is offshore at 12 mph, so it'll be clean and powerful. This is big, over 8ft, so experts only. The long period will make it lined up and throwy on this point and reef, but it can break a bit straight at the beach. For the crew who charge, this is the best on offer.
Friday, July 10th, holds similar size with a 12ft SSW swell, still with excellent conditions. Morning has a light cross-off, but the afternoon is the pick with a light 6 mph offshore and glassy conditions. Combined energy is still very strong (3801), and that SSW direction matches the optimum for Tubes. Another excellent day for experienced surfers.
The weekend turns ugly. Saturday, July 11th, the wind swings onshore with light rain, making a 8ft swell messy. Sunday, July 12th, is worse with moderate cross-onshore winds and poor surf. Monday morning, July 13th, drops way down, but Monday afternoon sees a shift – a 7ft ESE swell comes in with a shorter 9-second period and moderate offshore wind, offering a little window of fun.
After that, there's a real flat spell. From Tuesday, July 14th, through to late next week, it's mostly small, choppy, or blown out. A few moments, like the glassy 3ft on Tuesday morning, but nothing to write home about. There's a decent pulse building again for Saturday, July 18th, with a 4ft clean swell and light wind – good for a longboard.
Then the second week throws up a promising but less certain option. Sunday, July 19th, kicks off a new south-west swell, with a 8ft swell and a very long 14-second period. The morning is clean with near-calm winds, but combined energy is strong at 2611. This is a big call for two weeks out, but it looks like the next real session. The next day, Monday July 20th, is smaller with onshore wind, but keep an eye on Wednesday July 22nd, which ends the forecast with glassey conditions and a clean 7ft swell – a potential late-session bonus.
Rusty.
