Alright, the swell window is opening up for us at Tubes. This reef and point break is our only real player on the board for the next couple of weeks, and it’s looking like a solid run. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – don’t forget the warmer steamer.
The action starts early Sunday, July 5th. We’ve got a 5ft SE swell running, with light cross-on wind in the morning. It’s a bit messy to start, but the afternoon cleans right up as the wind swings offshore from the SSW. The wave energy is moderate (903), but the quality is just surfable.
Monday, July 6th, is where it gets good. The morning is flat-out glassy with a 6ft SW swell and a 12-second period. The energy is picking up into the triple digits (1104), and the waves will be clean and lined up. This is the standout for the first week – an absolute gem of a session for intermediates and above.
Tuesday, July 7th, keeps the quality high. Clean conditions both morning and afternoon with offshore winds. The swell holds at 7ft from the SW, with that same nice 12-second period. Energy jumps up nicely (1328). This is a solid, fun day.
Wednesday, July 8th, the swell pushes up to 8ft in the morning and hits 10ft by the afternoon, but the wind gets a bit punchy. The morning is rideable, but the afternoon is pushing into big-wave territory with a fresh 19 mph cross-off breeze. This one’s for the experts only.
Thursday, July 9th, is a highlight for the experienced crew. We’ve got 10ft of clean SSW groundswell and gentle offshore winds. The energy readings are strong (3148 to 3488). This is serious, powerful reef surfing – not for the faint of heart.
Friday, July 10th, the swell peaks at 12ft with glassy conditions in the morning. The energy is massive (4031). If you’ve got the skills, this is the session of the period. The afternoon gets messy with onshore wind and rain, so get out early.
The weekend of July 11th and into Monday, July 13th, gets blown out with wind and storms. The swell drops off, and it’s not worth paddling out. We’ve got about a four-day lull here for quality waves.
Things start to show signs of life again on Sunday, July 12th, with a 5ft SSW swell and offshore wind, but it’s nothing special. The real return comes Thursday, July 16th, with a steep 10ft SSW swell showing up. The wind is onshore and tough, but the energy is huge (3450). It’s a marginal call.
Friday, July 17th, is another standout from the second week. Morning brings a 8ft SSW swell with light offshore winds and clean conditions. Energy is high (2253). This is a promising session for experienced surfers.
The final days, from Saturday, July 18th, onward, are a mix of smaller swells and inconsistent winds. There’s nothing that really screams “go,” but the glassy mornings on Monday, July 20th, could offer a few fun ones if you’re keen.
So if you’re looking for the best, lock in Monday, July 6th, for clean, fun surf, and keep an eye on Friday, July 10th morning for the big, clean swell – just be ready for a serious paddle.
