Table - best surf conditions forecast for Tubes over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
We’ve got a solid run of surf on the cards for Tubes, but it’s a mixed bag with some real standout windows and some periods that are just a write-off. The water is sitting at 63°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so you might want an extra layer.
The action starts on Thursday the 9th of July. It’s a bit of a lumpy morning with a 12ft SW swell and a cross-offshore wind, but the energy is pumping at 4420 (moderate to strong). The real deal is Thursday afternoon. The wind swings offshore, the swell holds at 12ft but shifts to a better direction from the SSW, and the energy is still massive at 3911. Excellent conditions for experienced surfers – this is a standout.
Friday the 10th is good too. Morning is cross-off with a 12ft SSW swell, and the afternoon goes offshore with a 10ft SSW swell. Both windows have clean conditions and strong energy. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
Saturday the 11th is a bit of a letdown. Light rain and cross-on winds kill the quality. The swell is still 10ft in the morning, but it’s messy. By Sunday the 12th, the swell drops to 6ft with onshore winds and poor conditions. Monday the 13th morning is a tease – glassy conditions with a 4ft SSW swell, but the energy is low at 400. It’s surfable, but nothing special.
Then we hit a dry spell. Tuesday the 14th through Wednesday the 15th is tiny, with waves under 3ft and very low energy. Not worth paddling out.
Now, here’s a long-range standout that has me excited. Thursday the 16th of July. The morning shows a 12ft SW swell with a strong cross-off wind, but it’s the afternoon that’s the real gem. A 12ft SSW swell, period of 14 seconds, and the energy is absolutely roaring at 5353 (very strong). The wind is cross-off and the waves are clean. This is a big, powerful groundswell – perfect for a reef and point like Tubes. It’s a good week out, so keep an eye on the forecasts, but this one has serious potential.
Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th are a write-off with onshore winds and choppy, poor conditions. Sunday the 19th is small and blown out. Monday the 20th is tiny and not worth it.
Then we get another promising window. Tuesday the 21st of July afternoon is a standout. A 7ft SSW swell with a 14-second period and offshore wind. Energy is solid at 2029, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. This is a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be lining up nicely at Tubes.
Wednesday the 22nd afternoon is also interesting – a 8ft SSW swell with a 16-second period and clean conditions, energy at 3317. That’s a very long-period swell, which can be a bit straight at beach breaks, but at a reef and point like Tubes, it’s a dream.
Thursday the 23rd morning has a 7ft SSW swell with offshore wind and moderate rain – expect very good surf. The rest of the period fades out.
So, to sum it up: the best on offer is Thursday afternoon the 9th of July, and the long-range standout is Thursday afternoon the 16th of July. Tuesday the 21st afternoon is also a top pick. Get on it.
Rusty.
