Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming down the pipe for the next couple of weeks.

Straight up, the only game in town for this period is Dumps. This is a sandbar set-up that’s fairly exposed, but it’s inconsistent and can be a bit of a diva about when it turns on. We’ve got a proper run of solid swell kicking off from Thursday, July 9th, but don’t get too excited if you’re a beginner – this is mostly for the experienced crew.

The water is sitting at 58° which is a degree colder than normal for this time of year, so you’ll be wanting a decent steamer.

Right, so Thursday the 9th kicks things off with a cracking 10ft SSW swell, packing a hell of a punch with 3037 combined energy. The wind is a cross-off from the SSE at 9 mph, keeping things clean. This is excellent for experienced surfers, but at that size, it’s too much for the learner. It hangs on into Friday the 10th with similar 10ft SSW swell and clean cross-off winds.

Saturday the 11th is the real standout. The swell drops a touch to 6ft from the SSW, but the wind goes offshore from the SE at a mere 3 mph. That’s going to be absolutely glassy and groomed. The energy is still moderate at 1165, but that offshore wind makes it a top pick for the week. The swell period is 12 seconds, so it’s proper groundswell, which will be a bit more lined up than the shorter period stuff.

Sunday the 12th morning is also a beauty. The swell is 5ft from the S, but the wind is glassy from the ESE. It is almost dead calm, which will be a dream. The energy is a bit weaker at 795, but for a clean, fun-sized wave, it’s a solid choice.

We then hit a real flat spell. From Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 15th, the swell drops right off, with heights under 3ft and very weak energy. It’s not worth even paddling for. That’s a solid three-day gap of nothing.

Things fire back up on Thursday the 16th, but it’s a warning. The swell jumps to a massive 12ft from the SW, with a massive 4550 combined energy. The wind is cross-off, so it will be clean, but the file flat out says it’s too big for this break. This is for experts only, and even then, be very careful. That huge swell is followed by a windy, messy Friday the 17th where the 8ft SSW swell is cross-off, but it’s still a solid wave for experienced surfers.

Another quiet period follows from Saturday the 18th through Monday the 20th, with tiny, poor conditions.

The next big chance comes on Tuesday the 22nd. The morning is absolutely perfect: the wind is glassy, zero mph, with a 6ft SW groundswell (12 seconds) and strong energy at 1911. This is a serious standout for the second week. Keep an eye on the date, because it’s a week and a half away, so it’s a promising one, but don’t book the day off just yet.

Finally, Friday the 24th looks like another one for the experts only. The swell is 12ft from the SW, with a massive 5423 energy and a very long 15 second period. Again, the file says it’s too big for this break, so it’s a warning call for the big wave chargers.

So, to wrap it up: the best of the best is Saturday the 11th with that 6ft SSW swell and offshore wind, and the long-range glassy stand-out on July 22nd. Everything else is either expert-only, or too small to bother with.

Rusty.
