Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get stuck into what we've got on the table for the next couple of weeks. It's a real mixed bag, but there are some absolute gems in there if you time it right.
We're starting off with some action at Dumps on Monday, July 6th. This spot is an inconsistent sandbar, so when it lines up, you gotta jump. The water's sitting at a bit of a chilly 58°F, which is about 3°F cooler than normal for this time of year, so you'll want the thick rubber.
Monday afternoon sets the tone with clean, glassy conditions. We're looking at a solid 6ft swell from the WSW with a nice 11-second period. The combined energy is a solid moderate (1271), and with a light 3 mph westerly going glassy, it’s going to be clean as a whistle.
Tuesday the 7th is a step up. Morning glass again, with the swell building to 7ft from the SW, period stretching to 12 seconds (1376 energy). By the afternoon, it’s hitting 7ft with a 13-second period (1697 energy) and still glassy. This is excellent for experienced surfers – the wave quality is looking damn good. Wednesday the 8th keeps that momentum. Morning is glassy with a 7ft SW swell at 13 seconds (2420 energy). The afternoon sees a slight wind shift to a cross-offshore breeze from the S at 6 mph, keeping it clean with the swell holding at 7ft (2530 energy).
Thursday the 9th gets a bit more gnarly. The swell jumps to 10ft from the SSW in the morning with a 14-second period, pumping out strong wave energy (2841), but the wind picks up to 12 mph from the SSE. It’s a cross-off, so it’s clean, but that size is getting into expert-only territory. The setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing if you ask me.
Friday the 10th is another standout. Morning brings a 10ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and a gentle offshore breeze from the SE at 9 mph. That’s a recipe for some serious, clean lines (2700 energy). It'll be big and powerful, for the experienced crew only. Saturday the 11th eases off a touch with a 6ft SSW swell in the morning, clean with a light offshore, but the combined energy (1164) drops back to moderate. Still worth a paddle.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. Sunday the 12th sees the swell drop right off to 3ft, and it stays small and weak through the middle of the week. From Monday the 13th through to Wednesday the 15th, conditions are pretty poor, with onshore or cross-onshore winds and tiny, weak swells. A proper flat spell for about four days.
Things start to show a pulse again on Thursday, July 16th, with the swell climbing back to 6ft from the WSW, but the wind is messy and cross-onshore. It’s not really worth getting excited about until we look further ahead.
Now, for the best of the best on offer. Look at Sunday, July 19th. The swell is forecast to jack up to a massive 12ft from the SW with a long 13-second period and very strong energy (4694-4887). The wind is clean and cross-offshore. However, it’s predicted to be too big for this break. For the absolute experts only, if ever there was a day to be a hero, this is it.
And circling back, the absolute standout for quality is Monday, July 21st. It's a week Monday, so mark your calendars. We're looking at a monster 12ft SW groundswell with a very long 15-second period. The energy reading is through the roof (5176). The wind is a light offshore breeze from the ESE at just 3 mph, making for glassy, clean conditions. Again, it's likely too big for this break, but if you’re an expert and you can handle it, this is the day. The quality of the swell combined with perfect wind is as good as it gets, even if it's for the brave only.
So, the picks: Friday 10th for experienced surfers on a big, clean swell, and Monday 21st for the big guns if you've got the nerve. The long period on the 21st will have those waves standing up tall, best for the take-off zone.
Stay safe, get some, I'm out.
Rusty.
