The Lowdown
Alright, let’s talk shop. This is Rusty, and I’m looking at the next 16 days for Dumps, a sandbar spot that’s inconsistent – it doesn’t break all the time, so you gotta be patient. The water is a bit colder than usual for this time of year, sitting at about 57°F.
The first chance to surf comes on Friday, July 17th afternoon. There’s a 6ft SW swell, but the wind is crossing it up. It’s a marginal call.
Saturday, July 18th morning is your first real highlight. Glassy conditions, clean. The swell is 5ft from the SW, and the energy is building. The afternoon goes offshore with a 3ft SW groundswell, but it’s a bit small.
Now, Tuesday, July 21st is the big one. The morning is glassy with a 4ft SSW groundswell, period hitting 14 seconds. The afternoon is the real standout: 7ft of SW groundswell, 14-second period, glassy, and the energy is pumping. This is for experienced surfers only.
Wednesday, July 22nd morning gets messy. Onshore winds hit 16 mph, the swell is 8ft, and it’s choppy. Poor conditions.
Friday, July 24th brings a massive pulse: 12ft from the SW with a 15-second period. The energy is huge. The wind is clean, but this is way too big for Dumps. This is for experts only, or kite surfers.
Sunday, July 26th afternoon has a 7ft SSW groundswell (16 seconds) with a strong offshore wind. It’s clean but hard to get into. Still, excellent for the right crew.
Monday, July 27th is solid: 6ft SW swell, 14-second period, clean cross-off wind. Excellent conditions for experienced surfers.
The final week gets smaller. Tuesday, July 28th afternoon is glassy with a 5ft SW swell, and Wednesday, July 29th afternoon is glassy with a 4ft SW groundswell. Then it fades out with onshore wind and poor surf from Friday, August 1st onward.
Best of the bunch: Tuesday, July 21st afternoon. 7ft of SW groundswell, 14-second period, glassy, and pumping. That’s the one to mark on the calendar.
Rusty.
