Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Boma over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here with the outlook for Fish Boma. This is a reef break that works best when the swell comes from the south. We’ve got a bit of a slow start to the forecast, but the second half of the window is looking seriously wild.
Right now, we’re kicking off on Thursday, the 9th of July, with a solid 10ft swell from the SSW and a 14-second period, but the wind is onshore and messy. It's a bit of a washout to start, with the combined energy already high at 3573. It’s not going to be clean, so I’d sit this one out.
Friday morning, the 10th, the wind swings to a light cross-offshore from the NW, and we’ve still got that 10ft SSW swell at 13 seconds. The energy is still massive (3130), and the morning looks *clean*. This is a standout for experienced surfers only – that’s a solid, powerful reef wave. The afternoon turns glassy with a light southerly, which is just magic for the surface.
Saturday the 11th holds onto a good 8ft SSW swell, but the wind picks up a bit from the east. Still cross-off, so it’s clean, but the breeze is stronger in the afternoon. The energy is dropping (1910 down to 1598), but it’s still a heavy wave for the crew who know what they’re doing.
Sunday the 12th sees the swell drop to about 5ft, and the energy falls to 946. The wind stays cross-off from the east, so it’s still clean. This is where the intermediate surfers can start having a look, but it’s not the highlight of the week.
We hit a flat spot from Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th. The swell goes tiny and weak, with energy below 550. The wind is messy or glassy, but there’s just no power. A few days of small waves.
Then, Thursday the 16th of July gets wild. A long-period SW groundswell (16 seconds) ramps up, but the wind is howling onshore from the WSW at 19 mph. Rain, too. Combined energy is 1251, but it’s a total mess. The afternoon gets even worse with 8ft and onshore wind – this is kite-surfing conditions, not for a paddle.
Friday the 17th cleans up nicely with a cross-off easterly, and the swell is back to 8ft from the SSW with 12-second period. Energy is 1633. It’s a solid, clean wave for the experienced crew again.
Now, here’s the real standout: Saturday the 18th of July. The morning is clean, clear skies, light cross-off wind from the ENE. The swell is 6ft from the ESE at 9 seconds, but the energy is still a solid 1035. This is the best all-rounder of the week – size is manageable, the wind is perfect, and the break will be clean. Expect crowds here, because this is the pick.
But the true monster is coming on Thursday the 23rd of July. This is a long-range forecast, so take it with a pinch of salt, but if it hits, hold onto your board. A 15ft SW swell with a 17-second period and a combined energy of 10685. The wind is light and cross-off from the ENE. This is exceptional for expert surfers only. This is a deep-water reef grind. The sets will be massive, long, and powerful. The crowd will be small, but it’s a dangerous beast.
The 24th of July morning still has a 13ft SW swell at 16 seconds, but the wind goes cross-on, so it’s a bit bumpy. Still, the energy is 7440, so it’s a heavy wave for the brave.
Overall, the best sessions are Friday the 10th morning for that clean, heavy 10ft swell, and Saturday the 18th for the clean all-rounder. The 23rd of July is the one to circle on the calendar, but it’s a promise from the long-range, not a guarantee.
Rusty.
