Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Boma over the next 16 days.
Alright, listen up. Rusty here, and I’ve been staring at the charts for our local patch. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but we’ve got some serious potential lighting up the back end of this forecast. The water’s sitting at 62°, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, so no dramas there.
We’re looking at Fish Boma, a reef setup that’s fairly consistent when the swell hits. It’s exposed to the south, so it grabs everything that rolls in from that direction.
The first real window of opportunity kicks off on Thursday afternoon, 9 July. We’ve got a solid 10ft SSW groundswell, with a solid 13-second period pushing a ton of energy (3034). The wind is light from the SW, but it’s a bit onshore, so it’s not perfect. The real magic starts Friday morning, 10 July. The swell is still a meaty 10ft from the SSW, period holding at 13 seconds, and the energy is pumping (3131). But the wind is the story – it’s glassy, coming from the west at just 3 mph. That’s proper clean. This is for experienced surfers only, though; at 10ft, it’s a heavy beast. The afternoon stays glassy with a calm wind, but the energy drops a fraction (2773). Saturday and Sunday see the swell drop a bit, but the wind stays clean and cross-offshore, making for some fun, manageable waves in the 5ft to 8ft range.
Now, we hit a bit of a lull. Monday the 13th through Wednesday the 15th is pretty underwhelming. The swell drops away, and while the mornings are often glassy, the waves are small and weak. It’s a good few days to rest up.
The real standouts, the ones you’ve been waiting for, start to appear. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th see that SSW swell kick back in, with 8ft and 6ft respectively, and the wind is glassy. The energy is back up (2149 and 1209). This is excellent, clean surf for experienced surfers.
Then it gets a bit messy over the weekend of the 18th and 19th. Saturday the 18th is a write-off with strong cross-onshore winds. Sunday the 19th has a massive 16ft SW swell with a 14-second period and incredible energy (18583). The wind is clean, but honestly, that’s way too big for this spot. It’s a real shame, because the conditions are there, but the ocean is just a freight train.
The week after that gets blown out again until Wednesday the 22nd. That morning we see a clean 8ft SSW groundswell with a long 14-second period and a light offshore breeze. It’s a good one.
But the absolute highlight, the one to circle on your calendar, is Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th. Thursday morning delivers a 10ft SW groundswell with a 15-second period, light offshore winds, and massive energy (3999). The afternoon is glassy with a 10ft, 14-second swell (3488). Friday the 24th is a dream: an 8ft SW groundswell with an 18-second period. That’s a very long, powerful groundswell, and the energy is through the roof (3731). The wind is glassy. For a reef break like Fish Boma, that long period is going to produce some beautifully shaped, bowling waves. Expect long lulls between sets, but the waves that come will be absolute perfection. This is the best on offer, but it’s over a week away, so don’t lock it in just yet.
Rusty.
