Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Boma over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for our local stretch.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but once it kicks in, it’s going to be a wild ride, especially for the experienced crew. The first real action is this Saturday afternoon, July 11th, at Fish Boma. A solid 8 ft SSW swell rolls in with a 12-second period, packing a hefty 1662 (moderate to strong combined energy). The water's sitting at 62°F, which is about average for the time of year. The wind is a cross-off from the east at 9 mph, so that’s going to keep it reasonably clean. This is one for the intermediates and above.
Sunday morning, July 12th, is another standout. The swell drops to 5 ft from the SSW, but the period stays at 11 seconds, and the east wind is lighter at 6 mph, still cross-off. The energy drops to 1021, but it’s still got some push. A really fun, clean session.
Then we hit a bit of a lull on Monday and Tuesday, July 13th and 14th. The swell drops way down, and while the wind goes glassy on Monday morning, it’s a small, short-period ESE swell at 5 ft and 8 seconds. Fine for a longboard or a twilight paddle, but not a standout.
The real buzz starts building again for Thursday, July 16th. A big 10 ft SW groundswell with a 14-second period hits in the morning. The energy reading is a massive 3209, so there’s a ton of power. The wind is light cross-shore from the west, so it’s not perfect, but for experienced surfers, this is the start of something special. This is a big, powerful ocean swell, so it’s going to be heavy and best suited for a reef setup like Fish Boma.
The absolute highlight of the whole forecast, and I mean the one you circle in red, is Wednesday, July 22nd. The morning is calling for a 13 ft SW groundswell with a ridiculous 16-second period. The combined energy is off the charts at 7847, and the wind is dead calm – glassy. This is an exceptional, expert-only session. The afternoon keeps the power with a 15 ft WSW swell, but a bit of cross-on wind creeps in. Still, for the experienced charger, this is the day.
The following week keeps the big swell theme going. Thursday, July 23rd, serves up 10 ft SW swells with glassy conditions in the morning and afternoon. Then Friday, July 24th, is another monster. The morning is a 15 ft SSW swell with a 16-second period, but the wind is a moderate cross-on, making it choppy. The afternoon, however, is where it’s at: 13 ft SW, 16 seconds, and glassy as glass with an energy reading of 7305. Another exceptional, expert-only window.
The final weekend, July 25th-26th, keeps the quality high. Saturday afternoon with a 10 ft SSW swell and clean cross-off wind, and Sunday glassy with an 12 ft S swell. The energy is still huge, around 3000-3300.
So, the pick of the fortnight? Without a doubt, the morning of Wednesday, July 22nd, and the afternoon of Friday, July 24th. Both are massive, long-period groundswells with glassy conditions. Fish Boma is going to be a beast. Just remember, this is expert territory; the crowd will be there, but it will be worth it.
Rusty.
