Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here.
Alright, get ready, because this forecast for Fish Boma is a bit of a slow-burner, but when it fires, it’s gonna be a beauty. We’re looking at a classic reef break setup here, exposed to the south swell, and it really starts to come alive in the second week. The water temp sits at 63°F, which is pretty average for this time of year, so nothing wild there.
We kick off on Thursday, the 2nd of July, but honestly, you can give that a miss. We’ve got a solid 10ft swell from the SW, but it’s blowing a cross-on shore at 16 mph, making for poor, choppy conditions. The combined swell energy is moderate at 1541, but the wind kills it.
Friday the 3rd is where things start to turn. The morning glass off is the key. We’ve got 6ft of SE swell rolling in, period at 11 seconds, and the wind drops to nothing. It’s glassy as, and the combined energy is strong at 1183. This is excellent, clean surf for experienced surfers. The afternoon holds up too, with 6ft from the SE and 12-second period, still glassy.
Saturday the 4th is a real standout. The morning session is prime with 7ft of ESE swell, a 12-second period, and glassy conditions. The combined energy is strong at 1444. This is top-shelf, clean surf for those who know what they’re doing. The afternoon gets a cross-off breeze, still looking clean.
Sunday the 5th keeps the good times rolling with glassy mornings and 5ft of swell, easing off to 5ft in the afternoon. Both sessions are clean and glassy.
Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th see a shift to a SW swell, with heights around 6ft to 7ft. The wind is light, sometimes glassy, but the surf quality is a bit more marginal. It’s still rideable, but not the glory days.
Wednesday the 8th brings rain and a jump in size to 8ft from the SW, but the cross-on wind makes it choppy. The afternoon has a big energy reading of 3044, but the wind is still messy.
Now, listen up, because Thursday the 9th of July is the absolute standout of the whole run. We’ve got a massive 13ft swell from the SSW, with a long 14-second period. The wind in the morning is a clean cross-off at 6 mph, and the wave energy is a huge 6491. This is exceptional, heavy reef surf for experts only. This is the session to circle on the calendar.
The run continues strong into Friday the 10th with 8ft to 10ft of SSW swell, clean and cross-off, solid for experienced surfers. Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th keep the quality high, with Sunday the 12th seeing a monster 7ft swell from the S with a 16-second period and glassy conditions. That’s a 3580 energy reading and is another absolute cracker.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are still good, with clean conditions on offer.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th see the surf drop and get a bit messy with stronger winds. Friday the 17th of July has a pulsing 15ft swell from the SW, but with strong cross-off winds, it’s for experts only, with a massive combined energy of 11771.
If you’re not an expert, stick to the smaller, glassy days from the 3rd to the 5th. For the big dogs, Thursday the 9th and Sunday the 12th are the days.
Rusty.
