Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fish Boma over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming our way.
First up, we’ve got a solid run of swell heading into Fish Boma. The water’s sitting at 62°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing weird going on there. The week kicks off with a building SW groundswell. Wednesday morning we’re already looking at 8ft of SW swell with a 13-second period and a combined energy of 1972 (moderate). The wind is a bit of a cross-shore from the west, not perfect but rideable. The afternoon gets choppier. Thursday sees the swell push up to 10ft from the SSW – that’s big, expert-only territory. The wind stays cross-onshore, so it’s a bit messy.
The real standout window opens Friday the 10th. Friday morning we’ve got a clean 10ft SSW swell, 13-second period, and light cross-offshore wind from the northwest. The wave energy is cranking at 3177 (strong). Then Friday afternoon, it goes glassy. Dead calm wind, still 10ft from the SSW. That’s your best bet for the whole period – big, clean, and powerful. Only for experienced surfers though. Saturday holds similar 8ft SSW swell, clean with offshore to cross-offshore winds. Still excellent. By Sunday, it drops to a more manageable 5ft from the SSW, clean offshore wind in the morning. Still good for those who aren’t after the monster sets.
From Monday the 13th onward, things drop right off. The swell switches to a shorter-period, weaker S/ESE direction, with cross-onshore winds. There’s a stretch from Monday through Wednesday the 15th where it’s pretty marginal – small, choppy, not worth paddling out for in my book. That’s a solid 3-day gap of nothing special.
We get a little spike again on Thursday the 16th morning with a 6ft SW swell and glassy conditions – worth a look for a sneaky session. But it gets chopped up by afternoon. Friday the 17th is a write-off with rain showers and strong onshore wind pushing 8ft swell into messy, blown-out waves.
The following weekend, Saturday the 18th, brings a clean 7ft SSW swell with offshore wind in the morning. A solid option for experienced surfers. Sunday the 19th sees the swell drop to 4ft but it’s clean with a nice 12-second period from the south. A fun, relaxed day. Monday the 20th holds around 5ft SSW, clean but the wind picks up in the afternoon. The long-range standouts are more of a gamble but Saturday the 18th morning looks promising.
The latter part of the second week, from the 21st onward, sees a mix of onshore, cross, and glass conditions, with SSW swell hanging around 5ft to 7ft. There’s a big spike on Thursday the 23rd afternoon with a 10ft SW swell and a period of 11 seconds, combined energy of 4321 (very strong). But it’s a cross-shore wind with a bit of chop, and it’s 10ft – only for the brave. The direction is SW, which lines up nicely with Fish Boma’s optimum S direction, but it’s a long way out and could change.
Overall, the standout is undeniably Friday the 10th – big, glassy, and powerful. Saturday the 18th is a strong second. Fish Boma can get a few people out there, so expect some company on those good days.
Rusty.
