The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Fish Boma has in store for us.
The forecast is a real mixed bag. We start off slow, with the first few days not offering much for a paddle. The real standout action looks to kick off in a week's time, but we’ve got to get through some average conditions first.
Water temp is sitting at 62°, which is about normal for this time of year, so nothing crazy there.
First up, Tuesday the 14th is a write-off. Small, messy, cross-onshore wind. Not worth getting wet for. Wednesday the 15th afternoon sees a jump in size to 6ft from the SW, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag with cross-shore wind. The energy is moderate (2135). It’s a looker, but not the best.
Thursday the 16th morning brings a solid 8ft SW swell (2705 energy) with a juicy 14-second period, but the cross-onshore wind chops it up. Afternoon goes onshore, which might clean it up a touch, but it won't be sparkling.
Now, Friday the 17th morning is your first real highlight. The swell is a clean 8ft from the SW with a 12-second period, and we’ve got glassy conditions! That’s clean, smooth, and begging for a wave. The combined energy is strong (1435). This is a solid call for experienced surfers who can handle some size.
Saturday the 18th morning goes glassy again, but the swell drops right off to just 3ft from the S. Too small for much.
Sunday the 19th afternoon sees a return of that SW swell at 6ft, and guess what? Glassy again! This is a sweet window for clean, ripable waves.
Monday the 20th is another beauty – glassy in the morning with a 7ft SSW swell, and clean in the afternoon with a 8ft SSW swell. The energy is strong (1293 and 1529). Two excellent sessions on offer here.
Now, this is where it gets interesting. Tuesday the 21st of July is the big daddy. The swell ramps up to 12ft from the SW in the morning with a very long 16-second period, and 13ft in the afternoon with a 15-second period. The energy reading is massive – 11437 in the afternoon. This is some serious, deep-ocean groundswell. The problem? The wind is cross-onshore and fairly choppy. For a reef break, this kind of long-period swell can be incredible if it lines up, but the wind will make it a battle. This is expert-only territory, and honestly, the messy wind might make this more of a kite day than a surf day unless you're a glutton for punishment.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is still big (12ft), but the wind is cross-shore. The afternoon, however, goes glassy again with a 10ft SW swell. That is a serious, clean, powerful session for the brave.
Thursday the 23rd is a total write-off with howling 22 mph cross-onshore winds. Forget it.
Friday the 24th of July morning is a hidden gem – 5ft from the WSW with a 15-second period and glassy conditions. That’s a lovely, clean, manageable groundswell for the end of the week.
Saturday the 25th afternoon brings the standout of the later period. We’ve got a 6ft swell from the SSW with a ridiculously long 18-second period. That’s pure, clean groundswell. And with glassy conditions, this is going to be lined-up perfection for intermediates and above. The energy is solid (2196).
From Sunday the 26th onwards, it gets messy and inconsistent, with a lot of cross-onshore wind and fewer glassy windows. The energy stays moderate to strong, but the windows are small.
Best on offer: Friday the 17th morning for that first clean hit of proper swell. Monday the 20th for two excellent, clean days with solid energy. And for the adventurous, Friday the 24th morning and Saturday the 25th afternoon offer the cleanest and most lined-up waves of the whole forecast. Lock in those glassy windows.
Rusty, signing off.
