Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Fish Boma.
Alright, we’re in for a bit of a mixed bag over the next couple of weeks, but there’s some real magic on the horizon if you play it patient. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no shocks there.
Kicking things off on Sunday the 5th of July, the afternoon is a little messy – small 4ft swell from the ESE and a bit of onshore breeze, so not much to get excited about. You might as well spend the day doing something else.
Monday the 6th is where things start to look up. We’ve got a clean 6ft SW groundswell rolling in early with glassy conditions. That’s a proper start to the week. The combined wave energy is up at 1113 (moderate), and the period is a nice 12 seconds, so there’s some proper shape to these waves. It’s best for experienced surfers, but it’s a beauty of a morning.
Tuesday the 7th keeps the good times going. Morning brings clean 6ft SW swell with glassy winds again – 1155 (moderate) energy. The afternoon holds steady at 6ft and glassy. Two full days of clean, lined-up swell is a treat.
Now, Wednesday the 8th sees a jump in size. The morning is 7ft, but the wind swings cross-onshore and it gets a bit lumpy. The energy is up at 1859 (moderate to strong), but the quality drops. Afternoon pushes to 8ft and the wind stays cross-onshore, making it a bit of a messy one.
Thursday the 9th is interesting. Morning is a big 10ft SSW swell with a 14-second period – proper groundswell, but cross-onshore winds mess it up. The energy is 3375 (strong). The afternoon on Thursday the 9th is the real standout though. Winds go glassy, and you’ve got a solid 10ft SSW swell with a 13-second period. That’s a powerful, clean combination for experienced surfers only – 2914 (strong) energy and perfect conditions. That’s the one to circle.
Friday the 10th of July stays solid with 10ft SSW swell and clean offshore winds in the morning – 3683 (strong) energy. It’s big, it’s clean, it’s excellent. The afternoon holds up, but wind picks up to a moderate breeze. Still good, but that morning window is pure gold.
Saturday the 11th is a gem of a day. Morning is dead calm, glassy, with 7ft SSW swell – 2298 (strong) energy. The afternoon is 6ft and glassy again. Perfect conditions for anyone who can handle that size.
Sunday the 12th takes a sharp turn. The swell drops and shifts to a short-period 7ft SE windswell at only 8 seconds. Cross winds and later rain showers make it a write-off. Monday the 13th stays poor with onshore winds and lumpy 7ft swell.
Tuesday the 14th morning is a nice little window – glassy, 5ft ESE swell, very clean, but it’s a small one. Then from Wednesday the 15th through to Thursday the 16th, the wind is brutal – strong onshore and lumpy. A couple of those days have fresh breezes over 30 km/h, which is more kite-surfing weather than paddle-surfing.
Friday the 17th of July is a comeback. Morning is glassy with 6ft SSW swell at a 12-second period – clean and fun. The afternoon stays glassy with 5ft. A nice way to finish the week.
Saturday the 18th has a 8ft WSW swell but with cross-onshore wind, so it’s a bit wonky. The afternoon has a very long-period 4ft SSW swell at 14 seconds – that’s a groundswell that will wrap nicely, but it’s small.
Sunday the 19th is excellent. Morning brings 6ft WSW swell with clean offshore winds from the east – 1655 (moderate to strong) energy. Afternoon holds clean as well. That’s a great day.
Monday the 20th of July sees smaller 4ft SW swell, but with clean offshore winds and a 14-second period. It won’t be huge, but the quality will be there for a more relaxed session.
So, if you’re picking your moments, Thursday the 9th afternoon is the true standout: 10ft SSW groundswell, glassy, powerful. Friday the 10th morning runs it close. And Sunday the 19th is a solid, clean option with the wind in your favour. Keep an eye on the conditions for the bigger days – when it’s over 8ft, that’s expert territory only.
