Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s on offer. Buffalo Bay is the only spot in the frame, so we’ll be sticking with it this whole run. It’s a beach and point setup, which means it can handle a bit of decent direction. The water temp is sitting at 63°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start. First real action kicks off Friday the 3rd of July, with a solid 7ft swell out of the SE, period at 11 seconds. It’s got plenty of energy behind it (1237), but this one is for experienced surfers only. The wind is a light cross-off from the SW, so the surface will be clean enough for those who know what they’re doing.
Saturday the 4th morning is a stand-out. Glassy conditions, a beautiful NW breeze at 3 mph, and 7ft of ESE swell at a nice 13-second period. The energy is pumping (1339). This is the pick of the early part – clean, powerful, and lined up. The afternoon gets a bit tricky with onshore wind, so hit it early.
Sunday the 5th drops off a little to 5ft in the morning, but it’s still clean with a cross-off breeze. Good for a cruisy session. The swell ticks over through the week. Monday the 6th brings a 6ft SW swell, but the onshore wind from the east bugs it up a bit – it’ll be a bit lumpy. Tuesday the 7th is a ripper morning: 7ft SW swell with a clean offshore wind from the WSW at 6 mph. That’s proper, tidy surf.
Wednesday the 8th is a big day. The swell bumps up to 8ft out of the SW, period 13 seconds, and the energy is massive (2539). Wind is offshore again in the morning, roping it all up. This is expert territory – powerful, walled up, and clean. If you’re experienced, this is one of the best windows.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th get a bit messy with onshore easterlies and swell building to 10ft by Friday afternoon. The period jumps to 17 seconds on that 10ft (Friday arvo), which is very long period groundswell. That kind of energy (5322) can make a beach break a bit unruly, but the point at Buffalo Bay might handle it. Still, it’s onshore, so it’s a messy, powerful beast. Not a beginner’s wave by any stretch.
Saturday the 11th morning is glassy again, with 8ft SSW swell at 13 seconds. Clean, powerful, and heavy. Another expert-only session.
We get a nice little run from Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th with glassy conditions and dropping swell down to 3ft on Monday morning. That’s a lovely, clean, mellow window for intermediate surfers.
Tuesday the 14th is a write-off – 22 mph offshore winds with rain, swell is tiny (3ft). Not worth paddling out.
But hold on, the end of the run is looking serious. Wednesday the 15th morning is glassy, with a 6ft SW swell at a very long 16-second period. Energy is huge (2910). That’s a proper groundswell, and with the wind glass, it’s going to be a dream for the point. Thursday the 16th morning is the absolute standout of the whole 16-day window: glassy conditions, 10ft SSW swell at 14 seconds, and the energy reading is 4325. That is a powerful, clean, big swell. This is for experts only, but if you can handle it, that’s the session to chase. The afternoon gets onshore again.
The final weekend, Saturday the 18th, has a moderate offshore breeze with 6ft SW swell – still fun and clean for the more experienced.
Overall, there’s a lot of quality on offer, especially for those who can handle solid, powerful swell. The absolute standouts are Saturday morning the 4th (glassy 7ft) and Thursday morning the 16th (glassy 10ft). The middle week from the 8th to the 11th is a solid run for experts. For beginners, the best windows are smaller days like Sunday the 5th and Sunday the 12th into Monday the 13th. Everything bigger than 5ft is going to be a handful.
