Table - best surf conditions forecast for Addington (South Beach) over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. Right now, things are pretty slow, but we’ve got a real firecracker of a window coming up next week if you’re willing to wait.
The first real sniff of decent surf is Thursday morning – it’s not the big stuff, but it’s a clean 5 ft swell from the SSW with a cross-offshore breeze, so you’ll find some fun little waves at Addington (South Beach). The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The real standout, though, is the Friday morning session on the 10th. That’s when the ocean wakes up proper. You’ve got a solid 7 ft S swell rolling in with a 15-second period – that’s groundswell, long and powerful. The wind is light and cross-off, so the face will be clean. The combined energy is pumping at 2027 (moderate to strong), so there’s plenty of push. This is the pick of the early run, but it’s on the bigger side, so it’s for experienced surfers only.
Saturday morning 11th still holds some fun 5 ft S swell with a light breeze, but the energy drops off a bit (759). It’s clean and surfable, but not the standout.
Then we hit a bit of a lull. Sunday through to Wednesday 16th is mostly small, messy, or blown out. The wind swings onshore from the NE for a few days, and the swell gets junky. There’s a brief window Sunday afternoon 12th with glassy conditions and a little 4 ft S swell, but it’s weak (401). Monday morning 13th is also glassy with a 5 ft ENE swell, but the period is short (6 seconds), so it’s fat and weak. Not worth getting excited about.
Now, here’s the long-range promise. Tuesday 21st July – mark it. The morning is glassy, dead calm, with a whopping 10 ft NE swell and a 9-second period. The combined energy is 2384 (strong). That’s big, powerful, and clean. It’s a groundswell, so it’ll be better for a point or reef break, and the offshore wind is zero. This is expert territory. Wednesday 22nd morning is nearly as good – 10 ft again, light offshore wind, energy at 2514. Thursday 23rd morning also fires with 10 ft NE swell and a clean offshore breeze. That stretch of three days is the real deal for experienced surfers.
This is a classic case of a slow start building into a serious week of swell. The first week is for the patient, the second week is for the brave. Stay keen.
