Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, Rusty here. Look, I’ll be straight with you – the Bay of Plenty is in a proper funk for the next week and a half. We’ve got a long, frustrating gap coming up. From today, Tuesday the 7th, right through to the morning of Sunday the 13th, it’s a write-off. There’s surf on the cards but the quality is just not there – messy cross-shore winds, onshore junk, and questionable tides ruining what little shape there is. The water temp is sitting about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The real light at the end of the tunnel finally shows on Monday the 13th. The morning at Bay of Plenty has a bit of life with a 6ft swell from the ESE, period of 9 seconds. The wind goes cross-offshore from the SW (9 mph), cleaning things right up – they’re calling it clean, and I’d believe it. Combined swell energy is moderate at 515. It’s not a monster, but after this dry spell, you take what you can get. This is a beach/jetty setup, beginner-friendly, and fairly consistent, which is a bonus. Crowds are possible here, so don’t expect to have it to yourself.
Then, just when you think it’s all over, Wednesday the 15th morning dishes up another gem. Glassy conditions with a light NE breeze, 4ft of groundswell from the south, period of 9 seconds. The energy is moderate at 500, and they’re calling it “very good.” For a beach break, that’s as good as it gets around here. Looks like the best session of the whole 16-day run. After that, it’s back to messy and onshore for the rest of the week.
So to wrap it up: Monday the 13th morning is your first real chance, but Wednesday the 15th morning is the standout – that glassy, clean south swell will be worth the wait. Keep an eye on it.
Rusty.
