Country Club (African Beach) Surf Forecast and Surf Report

Alright, Rusty here. Let's look at what's on the cards for Country Club (African Beach).

First thing I gotta say, it's a pretty grim start. We've got a solid week of rough, choppy, and just plain messy conditions from the 3rd through the 10th. The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, gusting hard, and that's just ruining the shape. There's energy in the water, but it's all over the place. You'll be battling a fresh cross-shore chop most days, and the swell is often too big or too short-period for this spot to hold up well. The 4th of September afternoon sees a big jump in swell — 10ft from the south with a 9-second period and strong cross-winds — but that's a full-on washing machine, not a surf session. That's kite-surfing territory, not paddle surfing.

The 5th and 6th are a bit smaller but still onshore and bumpy. Nothing worth getting excited about.

Then we get a real tease. The 7th (Monday morning) shows a serious pulse of long-period groundswell from the south, 7ft with a 17-second period and cross-offshore wind from the NNE. The combined energy is a massive 3089 – that's a lot of power – but the wave comment flags it as marginal. That long period makes it tricky for a beach break like this; it'll be walling up and closing out, and the moderate cross-shore chop won't help. Not the day for it here.

The 8th and 9th are back to the same old story of onshore winds and lumpy, poor surf.

The standout window is the 12th of September, Saturday afternoon. The forecast shows glassy conditions – yeah, you heard that right, glassy – with a 5ft south swell and a 9-second period. The wind goes to nearly nothing from the southeast, and the combined energy is a solid 508. The wave comment says "expect very good surf conditions." This is our best bet. The swell is a clean size for a beginner-friendly break like this, and that glassy wind will make it smooth as butter. Crowds are listed as "sometimes" here, so you might have some company, but with conditions this good, it's worth the paddle out. The water temp is about 69°, which is a touch cooler than average for this time of year, but nothing crazy.

After that, the 14th (Monday) and 18th (Friday) have moments where the wind lays down, but the swell is small and the period is short. It's a gamble, but the 12th is the clear winner.
