The Lowdown

Alright, let’s break it down. This forecast is all about one spot, Outside Corner, and it’s looking like a solid run of swell.

Starting Sunday, 23 August, we’ve got a steady 1.8m SSW swell with a 15-second period. The water is 78°, which is a bit colder than usual for this time of year. Wind is blowing ESE at 25 mph, and it’s offshore, so the waves are going to be clean and lined up. The combined energy is 1986, so there’s plenty of power. This is an advanced wave, breaking over a reef and point, so it’s not for beginners. It’s fairly consistent, but you might see some company.

Monday, 24 August, keeps the same vibe. 1.8m to 1.9m SSW, period up to 16 seconds, and the wind stays offshore from the SE at 25 mph. Energy is still strong (1766-1705). Excellent conditions for experienced surfers.

Tuesday, 25 August, drops a little to 1.7m, but the period is still 16 seconds and the wind is offshore. The energy is 1335. The morning is a bit iffy on the tide, but the afternoon cleans up.

Now, Thursday, 27 August, is a date to watch. The afternoon brings a very long 20-second period, with a 1.3m SSW swell. The wind is a gentle offshore from the SE at 15 mph. The combined energy jumps to 2876. That’s a proper groundswell. The long period means these waves are going to have great shape and power, and at a point break, they’ll be lining up beautifully.

The absolute standout, the one you don’t miss, is Friday, 28 August. The morning session has 2.5m of SSW swell, a 16-second period, and glassy offshore winds from the SE at 15 mph. The energy is a massive 3731. This is expert-only territory. Big, powerful, and clean. The afternoon stays big but the wind goes cross-off, so the morning is the pick.

The run continues through the end of August. From Saturday, 29 August, to Tuesday, 1 September, the swell stays between 1.5m and 2.0m, period stays over 15 seconds, and winds are consistently offshore. The energy readings are all in the four-digit range, meaning the ocean is really working. The morning of 1 September is especially sweet, with 1.9m SW, 16-second period, and a gentle 15 mph offshore breeze, giving you a combined energy of 2102.

The second week settles into a more moderate pattern. Wednesday, 2 September, to Friday, 4 September, still offers clean waves, but the size drops to 1.2m to 1.6m. The wind stays offshore most of the time. By Saturday, 5 September, the swell is smaller, around 1.2m to 1.3m with a 13-second period, and the energy drops to around 500-600. It’s still fun, just not as punchy.

There’s a bit of a lull in the middle of the second week, but then Sunday, 7 September, brings a solid spike. The afternoon shows 2.1m SSW with a 16-second period, and the energy jumps back to 2236. The wind is cross-off, so it’s clean but not as perfect as the offshore days.

Overall, the first week from 23 August to 28 August is the clear winner. The standout is Friday, 28 August, morning session. Big swell, long period, glassy offshore wind, and a reef-point setup that will handle the size perfectly. This is a day for the experienced crew only. If you want a slightly less intense but still excellent session, the afternoon of 27 August with that 20-second period is a special treat.
