Table - best surf conditions forecast for Outside Corner over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up at Outside Corner, but it’s not all plain sailing – the wind is gonna be a factor for most of it. This is a reef and point setup, exposed to the southwest swell, so it handles the direction well, but it’s an advanced spot and the crowds can show up sometimes.
The water temp is sitting at 80.4°, which is about average for this time of year – no surprises there.
The first real action kicks off Wednesday afternoon, July 8th. We’ve got a strong 6.9ft SSW groundswell, with a very long 16-second period, and the combined energy is pumping hard at 2123 (strong to very strong). The wind is a moderate offshore from the SE at 15.5 mph, so it’s clean, but the setup might be a bit too straight for a beach break – this long-period swell will be better here on the point. It’s marginal though, so don’t expect perfection.
Thursday the 9th holds similar energy – 6.9ft SSW swell, 15-second period, energy at 2164 (very strong). Morning has a fresh offshore at 18.6 mph, afternoon eases to a moderate 15.5 mph. Both sessions are offshore, but the wind is stiff, so it’ll be bumpy. Friday the 10th is more of the same with a 6.2ft SSW swell, 16-second period, and fresh offshore winds – again, clean but wind-affected.
We get a bit of a drop Saturday the 11th, down to 5.2ft SW swell, period dropping to 14 seconds, energy at 1180 (moderate to strong). Wind is still offshore, but still fresh in the morning. By Sunday the 12th, the swell really backs off to under 3ft – 3ft SW, 13 seconds, energy down to 445 (moderate). The wind lightens to a gentle offshore in the afternoon, and the wave comment is “expect good surf conditions.” This is a smaller, cleaner window but nothing to write home about.
Monday the 13th brings a weird one. Morning is small at 3ft, but the afternoon sees a 2.6ft SSW groundswell with a very long 21-second period – that’s an incredible period for such a small height. Energy is 967 (moderate), and the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” This is a standout for the low wind and long period, but it’s tiny, so only for a longboard or a high-performance craft that can get into the gutless ones.
Tuesday the 14th, the swell jumps back up to 6.2ft SSW, 18-second period, energy at 2542 (very strong). Wind is fresh offshore at 18.6 mph – powerful but rough. That pattern holds through Wednesday the 15th (5.9ft, 16 sec, 1907 energy) and Thursday the 16th (4.6ft, 15 sec, 1063 energy). Every session has a fresh to moderate offshore wind, so it’s all clean-ish but not glassy.
Now, Friday the 17th of July is a standout – the wave comment says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” We get a 4.3ft SW swell, 14-second period, with a moderate offshore at 15.5 mph in the morning and 12.4 mph in the afternoon. The energy is 1372 (strong) in the morning. This is the sweet spot: solid size for the advanced crew, clean, and the period is decent. It’s not too big for the experienced surfer, and the offshore wind should hold it open.
Saturday the 18th sees a light breeze 4.6ft SW swell, 15 seconds, with 6.2 mph offshore in the morning – that’s nearly glassy. Energy is 964 (moderate), and the wave comment is “expect very good surf conditions.” This is another good day for the lighter winds.
The real highlight though, is Sunday the 19th of July. Afternoon session is a monster: 6.6ft SSW groundswell, very long 18-second period, with energy peaking at 2800 (very strong). The wind is a moderate offshore at 12.4 mph from the ESE. The wave comment says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers” again. That is the best on offer – big, powerful, clean, and at a reef and point where that long period will shine. Morning is also good with a 4.6ft SW swell and cross-offshore light breeze, but the afternoon is the pick.
After that, Monday the 20th stays big at 6.9ft SSW, 16 seconds, energy at 2632, but the wind picks up to a fresh 18.6 mph – still offshore but bumpy. Tuesday the 21st is the biggest of the run: 7.9ft SSW swell, 17-second period, energy at 3467 (very strong), with fresh offshore winds. That’s only for experts – over 8ft is too much for most, and this is right on the edge
