Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G'day, I'm Rusty, and I've been lookin' over what Old Man Ocean has got cookin' for us down here at Outside Corner – a solid reef and point set-up that needs some respect. The first swell of any note is rollin' in on Sunday the 5th of July, and the whole forecast is a classic winter run of persistent, clean, offshore ESE winds blowing across a long, pulsin' SSW groundswell. This ain't for the learner crew, though. Most of the good days have waves in the 6ft to 7ft range with a powerful 14 to 16-second period. That's proper energy – we're talkin' a swell energy of 1521 on Sunday morning, and it peaks at 2096 on Wednesday the 8th. That kind of grunt is best fed down the point here, as long-period swells can get a bit too straighty at a beachy. But on this reef and point, it'll be wedgin' off and lining up.
The standout run starts strong. Sunday the 5th of July kicks it off with a 6ft SSW swell at 14 seconds, clean with a moderate offshore breeze. That's a big day for experienced surfers only – the energy is right up there at 1521. Monday the 6th is a cracker too: morning gives us a slightly smaller 4ft but the period jumps to 17 seconds, so the lines will be fat, clean, and heavy in the morning. The afternoon packs on size again to 5.5ft with a 16-second pulse and energy of 1713. But the true highlight, the one you circle on the calendar, is Wednesday the 8th of July. That's the best of the bunch. You get a 6.5ft SSW swell in the morning buildin' to 7ft in the afternoon, both at a dreamy 15 to 16 seconds, all under clean offshore wind. The energy is cookin' at 1907 and then 2096. That’s a heavy slab of ocean pushin’ in. It's an advanced-only day, but for the charger who knows the line-up, it’ll be the session of the week. Crowds can show up here sometimes, but on a Wednesday with that much water movin', it might thin out the herd.
We hit a bit of a rough patch mid-week. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th stay big – 7ft and 6ft – but the wind picks up into a fresh breeze, making conditions a bit scratchy and robbing some of that glassy perfection. The period stays long, so the energy is still there (2042 on Thursday morning), but it's not as pristine. The surf keeps a similar pulse through Saturday the 11th (4.5ft, 14 seconds) before dropping right off on Sunday the 12th. That Sunday is a real lull – only 2.5ft with weak energy around 455. Things bottom out for the start of the next week. A few pulses try to break through, but it's mostly marginal from Monday the 13th through Saturday the 18th. A funky short-period 6ft swell shows up on Monday the 13th from the SE with just 7 seconds – that'll be bumpy and weak. Not worth the paddle. The long-period stuff pops up again but stays small (3.5ft to 5ft) and the wind never really drops out, staying fresh offshore. It’s workable, but nothin’ to journal home about.
Now, lookin' out to the second week, there's a real promise that's got me excited. Monday the 20th of July is showing a big pulse: a 8ft SSW groundswell with a very long period of 20 seconds – that's a long-lost ocean swell. The energy reading is massive at 4723. It's a long-range call, so it's less certain, but if that materialises under the moderate offshore breeze, Outside Corner will be an absolute beast. That is, again, expert territory – 8ft on a 20-second period is a freight train. So overall, the window starts good, turns patchy, and ends with a potential bomb. Keep your eyes on the 8th for the sure thing, and the 20th for the promise.
