Table - best surf conditions forecast for Outside Corner over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here, and I’ve got my eye on Outside Corner for the next couple of weeks. This spot’s a reef and point set-up, proper advanced wave, and it’s fairly consistent so it doesn’t take much to get it going. We’ve got a solid run of swell lined up, but it’s not all plain sailing.
The overall pattern is a long, drawn-out pulse of SSW-to-SW groundswell starting small and building into a couple of standout sessions. The water temp’s sitting at 80°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no need to dig out the thick rubber.
We kick off Friday the 10th with a fresh ESE breeze, 22 mph, blowing straight offshore. That’s clean, but the swell’s a bit of a beast at 6 ft and the energy’s pumping hard (1901). The 16-second period means proper groundswell, but at this size on a reef, it’s only for the experienced crew. Saturday the 11th is where it gets tasty. The wind drops to 16 mph, still offshore, and the swell sits at 5 ft from the SW with a 14-second period. The energy is moderate to strong (1173), and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. That’s the pick of the first week – clean, powerful, and not too wild.
Sunday the 12th drops off a touch to 3 ft, still clean, but the energy’s down to 598. Still a fun wave, just not the standout. Monday the 13th is a weird one – the swell height is tiny at 2 ft, but the period jumps to 23 seconds. That’s a very long period groundswell, so it’ll be shifting a lot of water, but the energy (646) is moderate. It’ll be a sleepy, waiting game, best on the point. Tuesday the 14th is another big one: 6 ft from the SSW, 17-second period, and the energy is hammering (2711). That’s strong to very strong. The wind is a moderate ESE offshore, so the faces will be clean, but this is expert territory only.
By Wednesday the 15th there’s a bit of rain, but the wind holds offshore at 16 mph. The swell is 6 ft, 16-second period, energy at 2175 – still strong. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th ease off gradually, with the swell dropping to 5 ft then 5 ft, and the energy sliding into the 1000s. Still good, still clean, but the quality is a bit more marginal on the tides.
Now, into the second week, the pattern holds. The standout is Monday the 20th. The swell jumps back up to 7 ft from the SSW, 16-second period, energy at 2449. It’s big, it’s strong, and it’s only for the brave. The wind is a fresh 19 mph offshore, so it’ll be a bumpy, clean, heavy session. Tuesday the 21st is a gem: light morning breeze, 6 mph from the ESE, and the swell is 6 ft with 16-second period and energy at 1689. The conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. That’s a solid call. Wednesday the 22nd morning is glassy – 3 mph from the SSE, no wind at all, and the swell is 5 ft at 14 seconds. Energy’s moderate (967). That’s a beautiful, clean morning. Thursday the 23rd is another glassy start, 3 mph from the WSW, with the swell at 4 ft but a 12-second period. Energy’s low (723), but it’ll be a fun, clean little wave. Friday the 24th morning is glassy again, 3 mph from the SSE, with the swell back up to 4 ft and a 16-second period. Energy’s climbing (1195), and it’s described as excellent for experienced surfers. That’s the best of the late run.
Crowds can be around sometimes, but with this spot being advanced-only, you’ll mostly have the pick of the pack if you’ve got the skills.
The best on offer? Saturday the 11th for the clean, consistent power, and Tuesday the 21st for the light winds and strong swell. Friday the 24th morning is the glassy dark horse.
Rusty.
