Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what’s coming down the line across the region. We’ve got one spot that’s been soaking up the energy and it’s going to be the main story for the next couple of weeks.
The core of this outlook is Outside Corner – a reef and point setup that takes a solid southerly exposure. The first real surf worth talking about kicks off on Monday, July 6th. The swell is a long-period SSW groundswell at 4 ft, period around 17 seconds, which is proper groundswell territory. That long period and direction mean the point setup at Outside Corner is going to be the place to be. The combined swell energy is indeed strong (1325), so there’s plenty of push. The wind is a steady ESE moderate breeze blowing offshore, keeping things clean. The water temp anomaly is not mentioned, so we’ll call it about average for July.
Monday afternoon builds to 6 ft with a 16-second period and the energy jumps to 1763. Offshore winds hold from the SE at 25 km/h. A solid afternoon session on the cards, but given the long period and size, this is more for the advanced crew – it’ll be a bit much for beginners. The wave comment flags marginal conditions, likely due to tide, but with this much quality groundswell and offshore wind, it’s still worth the paddle.
Tuesday (July 7) keeps the run going, with morning swell at 5 ft, 16 seconds, and a fresh breeze off the ESE at 30 km/h. The energy backs off slightly to 1051 but remains moderate-strong. By afternoon, it drops a touch but the wind stays offshore. Consistent, clean, and solid.
Wednesday (July 8) sees the swell building again: 7 ft in the morning, 7 ft by afternoon, with the period at 15-16 seconds. The afternoon window is flagged as “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers” and the energy hits 2127. This is legit – strong, long-period groundswell, offshore wind. For experts, this is a standout.
Thursday and Friday (July 9-10) keep the size up around 6-7 ft, with the same long period and offshore flow. The winds are moderate to fresh, but still offshore. The Friday afternoon session (July 10) is another one called out as excellent for experienced surfers, with a 6 ft SW swell and energy at 1749.
The weekend (July 11-12) sees a gradual drop in size. Saturday still has 5-5 ft, but the period backs off to 14 seconds, and by Sunday we’re down to 3-3 ft, 12-13 second period. Smaller but still clean. Crowds can be possible here, so the point might get a bit of a lineup.
Now, here’s the real standout stretch. Monday, July 13 brings a jump back up – morning swell 5 ft, but the period is a massive 20 seconds. That’s very long period groundswell. The wave comment says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers” and energy is 1635. By afternoon, it’s 6 ft at 19 seconds, with energy spiking to 2361. Offshore winds from the ESE at a light to moderate breeze. This is going to be proper, clean, long-period groundswell hitting the point. For me, this Monday is the top pick of the whole forecast – the period, the wind, the energy.
Tuesday July 14 through Thursday July 16 stays active, with swell holding between 5 ft and 7 ft, periods from 15 to 17 seconds, and consistent offshore winds. The energy stays in the 1400-2800 range. A lot of these are marked as marginal due to tide, but the raw ingredients are still solid.
The final weekend looks excellent. Saturday, July 18 morning has 5 ft at 17 seconds, light ESE winds, and an energy of 1875. The afternoon is 6 ft at 16 seconds, with a gentle cross-off breeze that’s still clean. Sunday, July 19 is a gem – morning comes in at 6 ft SW, 15 seconds, with glassy conditions (SW at 5 km/h). That’s rare and special. Energy is 1405. The afternoon switches to a light cross-off, but still clean. This is more for the experienced crew, but that glassy morning session will be the picture perfect day.
The week after that (July 20-21) tails off slightly – 4-5 ft, periods around 13-14 seconds, light winds and clean. Still fun, but not the standout.
So, if I’m calling it: the best windows are Monday July 13 (that incredible 20-second period groundswell) and Sunday July 19 (glassy conditions with a solid 6 ft groundswell). Both are at Outside Corner, a reef and point that loves this direction. It’s advanced territory when it gets over 5 ft, and both those days are over that, so leave the beginner boards at home. Crowds are possible but the quality will thin out the pack a little.
Rusty.
