The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got one spot on the radar for the next couple of weeks, and it’s a proper one – Outside Corner, a reef and point setup that’s exposed and ready to work.

The first week kicks off with a solid pulse of SSW groundswell that’s got some serious energy behind it. The combination of the swells is pushing moderate to strong wave energy, and it’s got a long period of 15 seconds, which means these waves are packing a punch with good shape and nice long lulls between sets. That’s a big plus for paddling out. The wind is holding steady from the ESE to SE, blowing offshore, so the surf is going to be clean and lined up. From Sunday the 23rd through the start of the week, you’re looking at waves around 6ft. This is advanced territory, and with the swell direction being a touch south of the optimum SW, it’ll still be a rippable, powerful wave. The real standout, though, is Monday afternoon the 24th. The wind is a clean offshore breeze from the SE at 12 mph, the swell is 6ft from the SSW with a 16-second period, and the energy is solid. It’s an excellent call for experienced surfers. Keep in mind, Outside Corner can get a crowd, so expect company.

Midweek, from Wednesday the 26th, the swell dips a little – 5ft – but the energy is still there, and the conditions are clean with offshore winds. It’s still a good wave, just not as powerful. Then, hold onto your board, because Friday morning the 28th is the standout of the entire outlook. The swell jumps to 10ft from the SSW with a 16-second period, and the combined energy is very strong. That’s a serious, expert-only wave. The wind is a light ESE breeze, creating clean, cross-off conditions. This is a big, powerful, and dangerous session. If you’re not an expert, stay on the beach.

The swell backs off a bit for the weekend, but it’s still pumping. Saturday the 29th morning has 7ft with a gentle offshore breeze, making for a much more manageable, but still high-performance, day. The run continues into the start of September, with consistent 5 to 7ft SSW and SW groundswell, with offshore winds dominating the mornings. The week of September 1st to the 7th looks like a solid, reliable stretch of clean, powerful surf, but nothing as huge as that Friday the 28th. The long period (16-17 seconds) continues to deliver quality.

There are no gaps in the surf; it’s on from the 23rd of August straight through to the 7th of September. The best on offer is that Friday the 28th for the big wave crew, and the Monday the 24th for a clean, powerful session. Keep your eyes on the horizon, and treat that ocean with respect.

Rusty.
