Table - best surf conditions forecast for Outside Corner over the next 16 days.
G’day, it’s Rusty. We’re looking at Outside Corner, a reef and point setup that handles a SW swell and loves offshore ESE winds. This is an advanced wave for the crew who know what they’re doing. Over the next couple weeks, we’ve got a run of clean conditions but not every session is gonna fire.
Starting Wednesday morning, July 8, there’s a 7ft SSW swell with a 15-second period – that’s proper groundswell, packing a lot of energy (1915). But the quality is flagged as marginal, likely tide issues. That continues through Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday morning, July 9, with 7ft SSW at 15-16 seconds, energy over 2100. It’s clean but off. Thursday afternoon drops slightly to 6ft, still 15 seconds, energy 1808. Friday morning, July 10, has 6ft SSW at 16 seconds with rain showers and a fresh 22 mph offshore – energy 1980. It’s all surfable for a strong paddler, but nothing’s special.
Saturday morning, July 11, the swell backs to 5ft SW at 14 seconds, energy 1149, still marginal. Saturday afternoon, 5ft SW, 14 seconds, energy 1242. Sunday morning, July 12, we finally get a “good surf conditions” call: 3ft SW at 13 seconds, energy 496. The ESE offshore at 12 mph is clean, and the quality is there. Sunday afternoon stays clean with 3ft SSW, 12 seconds, energy 425. Monday morning, July 13, is similar – 3ft SW, 13 seconds, energy 322. Small but clean on the point.
Then Monday afternoon, July 13, things get interesting. A 2ft SSW swell but with a 21-second period – that’s long-period groundswell, very long, and it’s gonna wrap into the point with shape and power. The comment is “very good surf conditions,” energy 898, with a moderate offshore breeze. This is a standout for experienced surfers – the sets will be fat and clean, with long lulls. For the advanced crew, this is the pick of the first week.
Tuesday, July 14, builds again: 6ft SSW at 18 seconds, energy 1885 in the morning, then 6ft SSW, 18 seconds, energy 2319 in the afternoon. It’s offshore but flagged as marginal – likely too big for the point to be perfect. Wednesday, July 15, stays solid at 6ft and 6ft SSW, 16-second period, energy around 1800-1600. Thursday morning, July 16, drops to 4ft SSW, 15 seconds, energy 1046. But Thursday afternoon, July 16, breaks through: 5ft SW at 15 seconds, energy 1003, with an “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers” note. The wind is moderate offshore, and it’s clean. That’s another proper session.
Friday, July 17, sees 5ft SW, 15-16 seconds, energy over 1200, but marginal. Risk of thunderstorms in the morning. Saturday, July 18, is similar – 5ft to 5ft SSW, 14-15 seconds, energy 1200-1000. Sunday morning, July 19, offers a “very good surf conditions” call: 5ft SW at 14 seconds, energy 854, moderate offshore. A clean, solid Sunday option. Sunday afternoon shifts to a cross-offshore wind – it’ll get lumpy.
Monday, July 20, brings a bigger pulse: 7ft SSW at 15 seconds, energy over 2300. The wind is cross-offshore, which kills the quality – this is more for kite surfing than paddling. Tuesday, July 21, the wind returns offshore with 6ft to 6ft SSW, 13-14 seconds, energy around 1200-1100, but still marginal. Wednesday, July 22, drops to 5ft to 4ft, 12-second period, energy 589 to 433. Thursday, July 23, the last day, has 4ft SSW at 11 seconds, energy 541, marginal with rain.
The standout sessions are Monday afternoon, July 13, and Thursday afternoon, July 16, for experienced surfers. Sunday morning, July 19, is a good smaller option. Crowds can show at Outside Corner, especially on weekends. It’s not a beginner wave at these sizes – over 5ft and it’s meaty, over 8ft and it’s expert-only. Water temp is about average for the season. That’s the word.
Stay salty,
Rusty
