G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's coming up for Outside Corner over the next couple of weeks.
The water temp is sitting at 80°F, which is spot on average for this time of year, so no need to worry about a chilly session.
We've got a solid run of surf kicking off from Friday the 3rd of July. The overall pattern is a long, drawn-out pulse of SSW groundswell with very long periods, and the wind is locked in from the ESE to SE, blowing offshore for most of the period. This is a reef and point break, so it handles those long-period swells beautifully. The energy is strong, with the combined swell energy reading around 1476 early on, and it's going to be a bit of a marathon, not a sprint.
The standout window is definitely the first weekend. Friday the 3rd of July, you've got a clean 7ft SSW swell with a 14-second period, ESE offshore wind of 12 mph, and it's glassy. The combined swell energy is 1476 (moderate to strong). This is excellent surf for experienced surfers. Saturday the 4th of July, it steps up a notch: 6ft to 6ft SSW swell, a very long 16-second period, and still that clean offshore wind at 16 mph. The energy is pumping at 1875. The waves will have real punch and shape, and the long gaps between sets will make paddling out easier. This is the best on offer, and crowds are sometimes possible, so get in early.
Sunday the 5th of July holds well, with 6ft to 6ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and clean offshore wind. The energy remains strong at 1543. Another beauty.
Monday the 6th of July, the swell drops a touch but the period stays very long at 17 seconds, and the wind stays offshore. The energy is still solid at 1384. The morning might have a few clouds, but the surf is still excellent for experienced surfers, though the morning session is noted as marginal on the tide. Tuesday the 7th of July sees the swell size dip a little more to 5ft, but the period is still long at 16 seconds, and the wind is offshore. The energy is moderate at 1029. Still very good, but not the standouts of the weekend.
Into the second week, Wednesday the 8th of July through Friday the 10th of July, the swell holds around 5ft to 7ft, with that consistent long-period SSW groundswell. The wind stays offshore, though it gets a bit fresh at times. The energy is high, hitting 2556 on Wednesday afternoon. This is a promising stretch, but the forecast is a little less certain at this range.
After Friday the 10th, the swell slowly eases through the weekend and into the start of the following week. The wind remains offshore, but the size drops to 3ft to 5ft. The energy is moderate to low. There's a slight uptick again around Monday the 13th of July with a 3ft, 20-second period swell, which will be very clean but small.
The final few days, from Thursday the 16th of July through Saturday the 18th of July, show a mix of small, clean swells and then a fresh pulse of 6ft to 6ft SW swell with strong offshore winds. The energy is strong again at 1884, but the wind is a fresh 22 mph, which will be clean but very windy. Still a solid prospect for the end of the run.
Overall, you've got about two weeks of surfable conditions. The very best days are the first weekend of July, with that perfect combination of size, long period, and glassy offshore wind. Get out there.
Rusty.
