Alright, grab your board and let’s get into it. We’ve got one spot on the menu for the next couple of weeks: Outside Corner, a reef and point set-up that’s got some serious potential if you know what you’re doing. The water temp is sitting at 80°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year – nothing wild there.

The overall pattern is a solid, drawn-out run of long-period SW groundswell, with that offshore wind from the ESE and SE locking in clean conditions for most of the run. The combined energy readings are mostly in the moderate to strong range, so there’s proper push behind these swells. We start on Tuesday the 7th with 5 ft SSW swell on a 16-second period (933 combined energy). It’s a bit underwhelming for a morning session with a 19 mph offshore, and the score isn’t great, but Tuesday afternoon sharpens up (16 mph offshore, still clean). Wednesday the 8th afternoon is where it gets interesting: 7 ft SSW swell, 16-second period, strong energy at 2205, and a good offshore breeze. That’s a standout for experienced surfers.

Thursday the 9th brings a fresh 22 mph offshore but paired with rain showers; the swell holds at 7 ft SSW (2159), so the morning is raw but still clean. Friday the 10th is a similar story. The weekend (11th-12th) sees the swell ease back to 5 ft to 3 ft and period dropping, but the wind stays offshore and clean – good for a relaxed session but nothing to write home about.

Monday the 13th afternoon has a nice little bump: 4 ft SW on a 12-second period, but with 1058 combined energy and light offshore wind, it’s set up sweet for a solid session. Tuesday the 14th sees the swell ramp up again to 7 ft SSW on a long 18-second period (2552 energy), but it’s a steeper offshore and the tide could be fussy – one for the crew who know the reef.

The second week has a few more flashes. Wednesday the 15th afternoon: 6 ft SSW, 16-second period, 1755 energy, and clean – another good call. Friday the 17th both sessions are solid: 5 ft SW, 14-15 seconds, and gentle to moderate offshore breeze. Saturday the 18th morning tops out at 8 ft SSW with a 17-second period – that’s a big, powerful groundswell (3203 energy) and only for experts on the reef. Sunday the 19th morning is similar but a touch smaller. The last few days (20th-22nd) fade to smaller swell, but Wednesday the 22nd has a very long-period 20-second swell at 2 ft, which is more of a trickle than a pump.

The best on offer? Wednesday 8th July afternoon – 7 ft SSW groundswell, 16-second period, strong energy, and clean offshore wind. It’s not for beginners, but for experienced surfers that’s the pick of the first week. For the second week, keep an eye on Saturday 18th July morning – 8 ft SSW with a 17-second period, huge energy at 3203, but this is only for the brave on a reef. Crowds are *sometimes* an issue here, so if you get it with the offshore wind and that heavy swell, it’ll be worth it.

If the swell gets over 8 ft and the wind holds, the reef could handle it, but for a beach break, you’d be looking at kiting conditions. For paddle surfing, this is a reef and point setup that loves these long-period SW swells.

Rusty.
