The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. We’ve got a solid run of swell on the radar for the coming weeks, and it’s all pointing at one spot.
The general picture is a long, consistent pulse of south-west groundswell. It’s not going to be a one-day flash in the pan; this is a sustained period of energy. The conditions are looking clean for the most part, with offshore winds keeping things lined up. There are a few periods where the tide might mess with things or the wind goes a bit sideways, but overall, this is a great stretch of surf.
The standout spot is Outside Corner. It's a reef and point setup that loves this south-west angle. The water's running about 77.5°, which is a touch colder than usual for this time of year – a bit of a shock to the system if you’ve been in the water recently, but you’ll warm up once you’re paddling. The energy in the water is strong, with combined swell energy values in the four-digit range, like 3305 and 2417, showing there's plenty of push.
We kick things off on Friday, August 21st. The swell is already up at 7.5ft from the SSW with a 17-second period. That’s proper groundswell and it's pouring in. The wind is offshore ESE, keeping the faces clean. It’s a bit of a big one for the first day, though, so make sure your fins are tight. The energy is strong at 3305.
Saturday the 22nd, it stays solid at around 7.2ft from the SSW. The period drops slightly to 16 seconds, but it's still a powerful groundswell. The wind is offshore, and the forecast is for excellent conditions. This is where it starts to get really good. Both morning and afternoon sessions are on the cards.
Sunday the 23rd and Monday the 24th continue the trend. Swell eases a touch to the 5.9ft to 6.2ft range, but the quality doesn't drop. The period stays in that 15-16 second zone, which is prime. Sunday looks flawless with offshore winds all day. Monday afternoon the wind swings cross-offshore, which might make it a bit more tricky to find a clean one, but the morning will be worth it.
Tuesday the 25th sees the swell back down slightly to 5.6ft, but the wind is offshore and the conditions are still excellent. The energy is dialing back a bit but still moderate to strong. Wednesday the 26th is similar, with a 5.2ft swell, but the period shortens up to 14 seconds. Still good, but you can feel the pulse easing.
Thursday the 27th is a day of two halves. Morning has a smaller 3.9ft swell, but it's clean with an offshore wind. The afternoon, however, sees a new pulse of energy arrive, jumping back up to 5.9ft with a 15-second period and the combined energy hitting 2749. It’s a cross-off wind in the afternoon, so expect some texture, but the power is coming back.
Now, listen up, because this is the standout of the whole run. Friday the 28th is the day. The swell pushes back up to 8.2ft from the SW with a 16-second period. The combined energy is a massive 3415. That's a lot of water moving. The morning has a clean offshore wind and this is the best on offer for the entire period. It’s big, powerful, and will be holding its shape perfectly at this reef and point. This is one for the experienced crew, for sure. With size like that, it’s not a beginner wave.
After that peak, Saturday the 29th sees the swell back down to a still-chunky 5.9ft, with a clean offshore wind in the morning. Sunday the 30th eases again to 5.6ft, but the period has dropped to 13 seconds, and the afternoon wind turns cross-off. The energy is waning.
There's a bit of a lull on Monday the 31st. A small, long-period swell fills in, only 2.3ft to 3ft, but with a period of 17-18 seconds. It’s clean and glassy with a gentle offshore breeze, but it’s small. This is a good day for a longboard or a bigger board, not for a high-performance session.
Don’t worry, the lull doesn’t last. The models are showing a another strong push of swell starting September 1st, and things are looking promising again. It builds through the day to a solid 5.6ft, and the energy is already back up to 2471.
Then, the second standout: Wednesday, September 2nd. The swell jumps to 7.2ft from the SW with a 17-second period. The wind is forecast to be light offshore, and the energy is at 2898. This is another day with great potential, though being over a week out, we should treat it as promising, but not set in stone.
The rest of the second week continues to show consistent surf. From Thursday the 3rd through Saturday
