The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s break it down. We’ve got a solid run of south-west swell hitting Outside Corner, and it’s going to be a proper stretch for the experienced crew. The water’s at 77.7°, which is a touch cooler than usual for this time of year — nothing crazy, but you’ll notice it.
The action starts Wednesday afternoon, August 19th. It’s an advanced wave, and at 2.5m (8.2ft) from the SSW, you’re looking at a serious wall. The combined energy is massive — 4140 (strong to very strong) — and with a 17-second period, this is deep ocean groundswell. That long period makes it a dream at a reef and point set-up. The wind is offshore from the ESE at 25 km/h (15.5 mph), so the face will be clean and lined up. This is proper, powerful surf. Not for beginners.
Thursday morning, August 20th, holds the same size but the period drops to 16 seconds. Still a solid 2.5m (8.2ft) from the SW with 3514 energy. The wind stays offshore, and the conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. Thursday afternoon, the swell eases just a fraction to 2.4m (7.9ft), wind drops to 20 km/h (12.4 mph), and it’s still offshore. This is one of the best windows — clean, powerful, and consistent.
Friday the 21st: morning drops to 1.4m (4.6ft) but the period shoots up to 18 seconds — very long-period groundswell lull. The energy is still strong at 2603, so the sets will be fat and lined up. Afternoon picks back up to 2.3m (7.5ft), 17 seconds, 3284 energy. Again, offshore winds. Magic.
Saturday the 22nd: morning is 2.2m (7.2ft), 16 seconds, still offshore. The afternoon shifts to a cross-off wind from the SE, and the marginal call comes in — the tide might play tricks, but the size is still 2.1m (6.9ft) with 2220 energy. Still clean, just not as perfect.
Sunday the 23rd: morning is 1.8m (5.9ft), 15 seconds, offshore. Afternoon goes cross-off and marginal. The morning is the pick.
Monday the 24th through Tuesday the 25th: both mornings and aftertons hold 1.7m to 1.9m (5.6ft to 6.2ft), 16-second period, offshore winds, excellent conditions. The energy sits between 1383 and 1816, moderate to strong. This is consistent, rideable, and clean.
Wednesday the 26th: morning is 1.6m (5.2ft), 14 seconds, 902 energy — moderate. Still offshore. The afternoon goes cross-off and marginal. The swell is backing off, but the morning is still worth it.
Thursday the 27th: morning is 1.2m (3.9ft), 12 seconds, 986 energy. Offshore. The afternoon has a 1.0m (3.3ft), 20-second period — very long period, but small. The cross-off wind keeps it clean, but it’s a waiting game.
The standout hits Friday the 28th. Morning bump up to 2.3m (7.5ft), 16 seconds, 2799 energy, cross-off wind but clean. Afternoon holds 2.2m (7.2ft), 16 seconds, 2472 energy. This is a big, powerful, and well-shaped swell. The cross-off wind is steady, and the wave quality is excellent for experienced surfers. This is the best on offer in the near term.
Saturday the 29th and Sunday the 30th: size drops and winds go cross-off. Marginal conditions, but still surfable. The 30th has a notable 0.7m (2.3ft), 22-second period in the afternoon — incredibly long period, very low energy (956), but clean.
Then, the real standout of the entire forecast lands on Monday the 31st of August and Tuesday the 1st of September. Monday morning: 1.6m (5.2ft), 19 seconds, 2466 energy. Afternoon: 2.0m (6.6ft), 19 seconds, 3206 energy. Tuesday morning: 2.3m (7.5ft), 17 seconds, 3362 energy. Tuesday afternoon: 2.3m (7.5ft), 17 seconds, 3115 energy. Offshore winds all the way. This is a long-range promise, but it looks like a serious, powerful, clean SW groundswell hitting the point perfectly. The energy is strong to very strong, and the period is long. This is the one to circle on the calendar — but it’s a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it.
Wednesday the 2nd of September: morning is 2.0m (6.6ft), 16 seconds, 2044 energy, offshore. Afternoon goes cross-off and marginal. Thursday the 3rd: 1.5m to 1.6m (4.9ft to 5.2ft), 14-15 seconds, light winds, clean but backing off.
Overall, Outside Corner is the only break, and it’s
