The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's take a look at what's coming down the line for the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a slow burn early on, but for those who can wait, there's a real gem waiting for us at the very end.
Right, the first action we've got is at Outside Corner (reef and point). Friday the 17th kicks things off with a clean, moderate offshore breeze from the ESE and a solid 5ft SW groundswell. The water temp's sitting at 80°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so nothing unusual there. The combined energy is pumping at a strong 1196, but the overall vibe from the data is that the conditions are a bit "marginal" – perhaps a tricky tide on Friday morning. The afternoon cleans up though, with solid 4ft swell, and the wind stays offshore, making it a good window for the experienced crew.
Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th will have surf, but a stiff 19 mph offshore breeze and those "risk tstorm" and "rain shwrs" labels mean it'll be a bit of a battle. The swell hangs around 4-5ft but the energy drops a notch, so it's one for the die-hards only. Monday the 20th sees a noticeable jump in energy, hitting over 2000, with the swell building to 5ft in the morning and 7ft by the afternoon from the SSW. That’s getting into expert-only territory, especially with a long 16-second period that will make it pitchy and powerful on this reef setup. The offshore wind holds, so it could be heavy and rewarding for the brave.
From Tuesday the 22nd through to the 30th of July, it’s a bit of a lull. The swell dips, the energy drops way down, and the wind starts going cross-offshore or just staying moderate. Consistency is there, but the quality just isn't. There's a brief flicker on Friday the 24th afternoon where the data says "very good conditions" with a 3ft SW swell, but it's not quite a standout.
Now, hold onto your leggies, because the finish line is a stunner. On Friday the 31st of July , we get a proper pulse. The morning session has a 6ft SSW groundswell with a very long 18-second period and a massive combined energy of 3120. That's strong. The wind is a clean offshore breeze. This is big, powerful, and lined-up for the experts. It's an "excellent" call in the books. The afternoon bumps up to 8ft with the same long period (3737 energy), but the wind picks up to 19 mph and there's a chance of storms, so the morning on the 31st is the one to circle on your calendar.
Saturday the 1st of August still has a big 7ft SSW swell running from the same system, but the wind is fresher and there's more cloud and storm risk around. Still a big swell, but not as clean as the day before.
So, the standout here is clearly the Friday morning, 31st of July at Outside Corner. It's a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but if that long-period SSW swell and offshore wind line up, it could be the session of the month.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
