The Lowdown

Alright, let’s get into what’s cookin’ at Temples. It’s a reef and point setup that loves a good SW swell, and with the offshore wind we’ve been seeing, it’s a proper little run for the advanced crew. Water temp is about where it should be for this time of year, so no surprises there.

The first few days are a slow burner. Friday and Saturday, the 17th and 18th, have some clean 4 to 5 ft SW swell, nice and clean off the ESE breeze, but the energy is just alright (1196 to 914), and the tide is a bit dodgy. You can surf it, but it’s not the main event.

The real standout is Monday the 20th – that’s the one. Monday morning brings a solid 7 ft SSW swell, period pushing 17 seconds, and the energy jumps up strong (2501). That’s proper wave energy, and with an ESE offshore breeze, it’s gonna be clean and lined up. This is the best on offer, hands down. It’s a bit heavy for anyone but experienced surfers, but for those who know, this is the session to hunt. Monday afternoon drops a touch to 7 ft but the wind holds, and the quality stays high.

The rest of that week keeps a good rhythm. Tuesday the 21st holds 5 to 6 ft SSW swell, clean offshore, and the energy is still solid (1394 to 1128). Wednesday the 22nd is a bit smaller but still good. The wind stays offshore for most of the mornings, which is a major win for this exposed point.

Then there’s another highlight on Friday the 24th – 6 ft S swell with a 13-second period, and the energy is strong again (1841). The wind is offshore, the waves are solid, and it’s another excellent session for the experienced crew. That S swell direction is a bit off the optimum SW, but the raw power and clean conditions make it a serious option.

The second week gets a bit more mixed. Saturday the 25th has a 7 ft SSE swell that’s short-period (10 seconds) and a bit sloppy, though the wind is still offshore. From Sunday the 26th onward, the swell drops in quality, with shorter periods and more rain showers. The energy stays moderate (820 to 640), and while the wind is still offshore, the waves are less inspiring. Tuesday the 29th brings a bit of a rebound with 5 ft SSW swell and a 15-second period, energy up to 1113, and that’s a decent morning session. The very end of the run, Friday the 31st and into August, shows a massive 22-second period swell and some huge energy numbers (2996 to 4436), but the forecast says marginal conditions – that’s a long groundswell that might break too straight at the point, and the wind is fresh. It’s a tease for the experts, but it’s a long way out and the wind needs to play ball.

Overall, Monday the 20th is the one to circle. The rest of the first week has plenty of good, clean waves, but that Monday morning is the standout.
