Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about the surf at Temples.
We've got a solid run of surf on the way. The standout period is the first weekend, with a really clean, punchy south-southwest groundswell and glassy offshore winds. After that, the size drops off, but there’s still plenty to work with. The water temp is sitting at 81°F, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The real action kicks off on Saturday the 4th. We're looking at a 6ft swell from the SSW with a very long 16-second period, producing moderate wave energy (1989). The wind is a moderate offshore breeze from the ESE, keeping things clean for experienced surfers. It's a reef-and-point setup, so that long-period groundswell will wrap in nicely. It does get a bit crowded here sometimes, but with this quality, you can understand why.
Sunday the 5th keeps the pace. A 6ft SSW swell, still with a long 14-second period, and a gentler offshore ESE breeze in the morning. Wave energy is still solid (1516). It's a slightly smaller, but still excellent wave for those who know what they're doing.
Monday the 6th sees the swell dip a bit to 4ft in the morning, but the period jumps to 17-seconds. The wind is a fresh offshore from the ESE at 19 mph, so it’s clean but a bit blown. The energy is moderate (1388). It’s a bit more marginal for quality, but there are still waves to be had.
Tuesday the 7th is similar, with a 5ft SSW swell and a long period, but the wind stays fresh offshore, making it a bit trickier. The energy drops to 1026. It's a quieter day, more for the die-hards.
Now, Wednesday the 8th is your second big call. The swell jumps back up to 7ft in the morning and 7ft in the afternoon from the SSW, with a 15 to 16-second period. The wave energy cranks up to 2136 in the afternoon. Moderate offshore winds from the ESE will keep it clean. This is another excellent day for experienced surfers. It's still over 5ft, so beginners should sit this one out.
From Thursday the 9th through to Tuesday the 14th, the swell hovers between 4ft and 6ft, with periods staying long. However, the winds freshen up, mostly from the ESE at 16-22 mph, creating fresh offshore conditions. A few rain showers are possible on the 9th and 11th, and the surf quality is more marginal. The energy is still moderate to strong, hitting over 2000 on the 9th morning, but the wind will make it a bit of a battle.
The following week, from the 15th of July onward, the swell drops off. We see a few pulses of 5ft from the SSW, but the winds are fresh offshore, and the size is inconsistent. The second weekend, the 19th, brings a 6ft to 6ft SSW swell, but the wind shifts to a cross-shore from the SSW, introducing some chop. It’s a less clean option than the first weekend, but there’s still energy there (1644).
So, to boil it down: your absolute best bets are Saturday the 4th and Sunday the 5th for the cleanest, most powerful groundswell, and Wednesday the 8th for another solid pulse of size and clean conditions. Beyond that, it’s a game of picking the windows with the lighter offshore breezes.
Rusty.
