Alright folks, Rusty here with the lowdown in feet and miles-per-hour.
We got a solid run of surf comin' for Temples (a reef and point that loves a good SSW to SW groundswell). Water temp's about where it should be for this time of year.
The action fires up this Saturday morning, the 4th of July. It's a beauty. We’re talkin' a clean 6ft swell from the SSW, with a long 16-second period. Real groundswell grunt (combined energy of 1989). The wind is a steady offshore ESE breeze, so those waves will be glassy. This one's for the experts only – at that size and power, it’s no joke. The afternoon holds the same vibe, a touch bigger at 7ft but still clean.
Sunday the 5th is more of the same – solid, lined up SSW swell (6ft) with that long period and clean offshore winds. Temples will be pumpin' all day. If you're experienced, this is your weekend.
Monday the 6th sees the swell drop a notch in the morning to 4ft, but the period jumps to 17 seconds – that's very long period energy. The wind is a fresher offshore at 19 mph, keepin' it clean but making paddlin' a workout. The afternoon picks back up to a meaty 6ft with a 16-second period and solid energy (1702). Still excellent for the experienced.
Tuesday the 7th is a bit more mixed. Still clean, but the energy drops and conditions get a touch more 'marginal', though the afternoon shows some promise.
Wednesday the 8th is a standout. The afternoon brings a solid 7ft from the SSW, with a 16-second period and a combined energy of 2266. That's a serious push of water, and with a moderate offshore breeze, Temples will be throwin' down powerful, bowly walls. Experts only at this size.
The run of quality continues through Thursday the 9th and into Friday the 10th, with consistent 6ft to 6ft SSW swell and clean offshore winds. The energy stays high.
Saturday the 11th sees the swell easing off (5ft in the mornin', 5ft in the arvo), but it’s still clean and fun. Watch for the crowd here – Temples can get packed.
From Sunday the 12th, we get a definite drop. The swell backs off to around 3ft, and the energy plummets. The waves will be there, but it's smaller and weaker. That Monday afternoon has a super long 20-second period, which is interesting – long gaps between sets might make it worth a look if you're patient.
Mid-week, Tuesday the 14th brings a resurgence: a strong 6ft in the afternoon with a 17-second period and huge energy (1898). The wind stays offshore, but the report flags some marginal tide issues.
Wednesday the 15th holds steady at 5ft to 6ft, but the wind picks up to 19 mph, makin' it a fresh, clean session – more of a battle.
By Thursday the 16th, the swell drops to 3ft, but the period is a very long 19 seconds. That’s a sneaky swell – a lot of energy (1262) for the size, wrappin' in nicely at a point.
The final stretch into the 17th, 18th, and 19th of July is a mixed bag. The swell picks up again to a consistent 4ft to 5ft from the SW, but the wind starts to swing cross-offshore on the weekend, so you won't get that perfect, clean face.
The Pick: No doubt about it, the absolute standout is Wednesday the 8th of July, especially the afternoon. That 7ft SSW swell with a 16-second period and solid offshore wind is world-class for the expert. The entire first weekend (4th-5th) and the 9th-10th are also top-tier.
If you're not an expert, look at the mornings of the 6th (smaller at 4ft) or the 11th (5ft) when the size is more manageable, but keep an eye on the crowd.
