Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell lining up for Temples, so let’s get into it.
The overall pattern is a prolonged pulse of solid SSW groundswell with offshore winds holding for most of the period. The water temp is sitting at 80°F which is bang on average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The action kicks off Sunday July 5th. Temples is a reef and point setup, exposed to the SW, which is exactly where the optimum direction is coming from. The day starts with a 6ft SSW swell at a very long 14-second period, and the wave energy is strong at (1336). Winds are a moderate offshore ESE breeze, so expect clean lines. This one is aimed at the advanced crew, and it’s a classic. It’s the standout of this first weekend.
Monday the 6th keeps the window open. Morning sees a smaller 4ft SSW groundswell, but the period jumps to a stunning 17-seconds. The energy dips a bit (1325), but that period is pure quality. The offshore ESE wind keeps it tidy. Afternoon bumps back up to 6ft SSW with a 16-second period, and the energy is strong (1787). The wind holds offshore, but the comment notes marginal tide, so pick your session.
Moving through the week, Tuesday the 7th serves 5ft SSW swell with a 16-second period and a fresh ESE wind 19 mph. It’s clean but a bit windier. Wednesday the 8th is a big standout for the experts. Morning brings 7ft SSW at 15 seconds, energy strong (1701), but the afternoon cranks up to 7ft SSW at 16 seconds, with a massive energy reading of (2105). Moderate offshore wind. This is serious grunt and a highlight of the forecast.
Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th see the swell holding at around 6ft to 7ft, with fresh 22 mph ESE winds. It’s still offshore and clean, but the breeze is up and there are some rain showers. The energy stays in the strong range (over 1900). This is still good for experienced surfers, but you’ll be working for it.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th sees the swell begin to fade. Saturday the 11th still has 5ft SSW swell with a 14-second period, and a fresh breeze. By Sunday the 12th, it drops to 3ft SSW with a 13-second period, and the wind goes cross-offshore in the afternoon. The energy falls off a cliff to (385), and the conditions get poor.
Then we get a second push. Monday the 13th is a real gem. The morning shows a 5ft SSW swell with a massive 19-second period. The energy is moderate (1420), but that period is very long and will wrap beautifully into the point. The afternoon bumps to 6ft SSW at 18 seconds, and the energy rockets to (2200), with a moderate ESE offshore breeze. That afternoon is a top pick for the second week.
Tuesday the 14th delivers the biggest swell of the run: 7ft SSW at a 17-second period, with energy hitting (2730). The wind is a fresh offshore, so it’s going to be big, clean, and heavy. Experts only. Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th keep the swell in the 5ft to 6ft range with 15-18 second periods, wind holding offshore but fresher on some mornings.
The final few days from Friday the 17th through Monday the 20th of July show a steady 5ft to 7ft SSW swell, with periods dropping to 14-17 seconds. Winds stay mostly offshore or cross-offshore. The last day, Monday the 20th, has both morning and afternoon sessions with 5ft to 6ft SSW swell, 14-second period, and clean offshore winds with light rain showers. It’s not the biggest, but it’s consistent and clean, a nice way to wrap it up.
This is a high-quality run with plenty of strong, long-period groundswell. The point break setup at Temples is ideal for these conditions. Crowds are possible at this spot, so factor that in. For the absolute best, I’m calling Wednesday the 8th afternoon for the biggest grunt, and Monday the 13th afternoon for that dreamy, long-period perfection. Don’t sleep on it.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
