Table - best surf conditions forecast for Temples over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming up over the next couple of weeks. We’ve got one spot on the radar, and it’s a bit of a mixed bag, so let’s get into it.
Straight up, the first few days are a bit of a write-off for a proper surf. The swell is there, but it’s got a lot of wind and energy behind it that makes it tricky. The real standout is going to be the weekend of the 11th and 12th, and then a sneaky little window later on the 24th.
We’re looking at Temples, a reef and point setup. It’s exposed to the swell, takes a SW direction best, and it’s fairly consistent. The crowds can show up sometimes, so keep that in mind. Water temp is sitting at 80°, which is pretty much bang on average for this time of year.
Thursday 9th July kicks off with rain showers and a fresh offshore breeze, but the swell is a solid 7 ft from the SSW, with a long 15 second period. That’s a lot of energy (2159) and it’s going to be a handful. This is more for the advanced crew, and honestly, the conditions are a bit marginal. Same vibe into Friday 10th July, with similar size and energy, still a bit messy for a perfect session.
Now, Saturday 11th July is where it gets interesting. The morning has rain showers, but the wind drops to a moderate offshore breeze. Swell drops to a more manageable 5 ft from the SW, still a solid 14 second period. The energy is still strong (1359), and the comment says it’s excellent for experienced surfers. This is your best day of the first week. The afternoon cleans up nicely too. Sunday 12th is smaller, dropping to 3 ft, but still clean. A good day for a longer board.
Monday 13th July afternoon is a real curveball. The swell drops to 3 ft, but the period jumps to a very long 21 seconds. That’s proper groundswell energy (1039), and it’s going to be glassy. This is a classic “shape over size” day. The waves will be long, lined up, and perfect for the point. If you can get out, it’ll be a special session.
Tuesday 14th July brings a bigger pulse back, with 6 ft SSW swell, 17 second period, and strong energy (2151). The wind is fresh offshore, so it’s clean, but that size with a long period at a point break is going to be proper. This is for the experienced crew only. The wind picks up a bit in the afternoon, making it more marginal.
The middle of the week, 15th to 17th, sees a gradual drop in size and energy, but it stays clean. Not a total loss, but nothing to get too excited about.
Saturday 18th July has a risk of thunderstorms, but the swell is 5 ft with a 15 second period, fresh offshore wind, and strong energy (1092). It’s a bit of a gamble, but if the storms clear, it’ll be good.
The second week is a bit of a slow burner. From Sunday 19th to Wednesday 22nd, the swell sits around 5 ft to 6 ft, but the wind is moderate to fresh offshore. It’s not the standout, but it’s rideable. The afternoon of Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st morning have a “very good” comment, so worth a look.
Then, Thursday 23rd July morning, the wind goes light, with a slight air and clean conditions. The swell is 5 ft, but the period is a shorter 12 seconds. Not as powerful, but clean.
And finally, Friday 24th July is the other real standout. The morning is glassy. Absolutely glassy. Swell is only 2 ft, but the period is a very long 17 seconds. That’s a long period groundswell with no wind. The energy is moderate (552), but for a point break, this is a dream. The waves will be perfect, clean, and long. This is the one to circle if you’re patient.
So, the best on offer? Saturday 11th July for the bigger, punchier swell with clean conditions, and Friday 24th July for the glassy, long-period magic. The rest is a story of offshore winds and moderate swell, but nothing that’ll blow your mind.
Rusty.
