Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks at Temples.
We’ve got a solid run of surf on the cards, starting Friday the 3rd of July. The pattern is a persistent, moderate-sized SSW groundswell with a long period, staying over 14 seconds for most of the window. The wind is locked in offshore from the ESE all the way through, which is a huge plus—clean conditions are pretty much guaranteed. The combined swell energy is strong, sitting in the thousands (1476) to start, so there’s plenty of push out there. This isn't one for the grommets though. The swell is over 5ft for most of the first week, peaking at 7ft, so it's strictly for the experienced crew. The water temp anomaly isn't flagged, so it's about average for this time of year.
The standout is the opening weekend. Friday the 3rd through Sunday the 5th of July is the pick. The swell holds at 5.6ft to 6.6ft from the SSW, the period is a juicy 14 to 16 seconds, and the combined energy is ramping up from 1397 to a cracking 1907 on Saturday afternoon. The wind is offshore and moderate, meaning clean, lined-up faces. With it being a reef and point break, that long-period groundswell is going to wrap in beautifully, offering some proper open-face turns. It’s an advanced wave, and crowds are possible, so get there early.
From Monday the 6th, the energy stays high but the quality drops a notch. The swell dips slightly on Tuesday to 4.3ft, but it rebounds to a chunky 6.9ft on Wednesday the 8th, with combined energy hitting 2222. That’s strong, borderline heavy, and with a 30 km/h offshore breeze, it’ll be clean but powerful. This is expert territory. The scores drop a bit, so it’s not quite as polished as the weekend, but still very surfable.
There’s a definite lull around the 12th of July. Swell drops to 2.6ft with combined energy under 438. It’s small and weak, a good chance for a rest day or a longboard.
The best of the second week looks to be around the 14th of July. Tuesday the 14th sees the swell jump back to 6.6ft from the SSW, with a very long 18-second period and combined energy over 2594. That’s powerful, meaty groundswell. Again, it's a point and reef setup, so it should handle that long-period energy well. The wind stays moderate offshore. It’s a promising call, but it’s further out, so a bit less certain.
The rest of the second week stays in the 3.6ft to 5.2ft range with consistent offshore wind, but the quality is mixed. The wave comments are a bit hit and miss, but there’s always something to paddle out into if you’re keen.
