G’day, this is Rusty. We’re looking at a solid 16‑day run for Temples, a reef and point setup. The whole period is dominated by a persistent, clean offshore wind from the SE to ESE direction, which is rare to see hold for so long. This break is exposed to the swell and its optimum direction is SW – and we’ve got pretty much non‑stop SSW to SW swell the whole time. There’s no gap in surf at all; it kicks off from Tuesday, July 7th and runs right through.
The water temp is about average for the time of year, nothing weird going on there.
Tuesday, July 7th kicks things off with a clean 5ft SSW swell, period around 16 seconds – that’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is moderate (933 on Tuesday morning, 857 in the arvo). Winds are offshore all day. It’s a good, fun start but not the standout.
Wednesday, July 8th is where it starts to get serious. The morning sees 7ft SSW swell (1907 combined energy), and by the afternoon it jumps to 7ft from the same direction, period 16 seconds, energy at 2096. That’s moderate‑strong wave energy now. Winds stay offshore and clean – this is quality, powerful surf. It’s over 5ft, so beginners will find it challenging, but for experienced surfers this is a proper session. This is a standout option.
Thursday, July 9th and Friday, July 10th hold size around 6ft to 7ft, still with offshore winds, but the mornings come with rain showers and a fresh breeze. The afternoons are clearer with moderate breezes. The swell is still strong (energy values between 1729 and 2124) but the wind is a touch stronger in the mornings. Still good surf, just a bit more wind.
Saturday, July 11th sees the swell ease to 5ft in the morning, 5ft in the arvo – still clean offshore, still decent.
Sunday, July 12th to Monday, July 13th – the swell drops to 3ft‑3ft, but the period stays around 13 seconds, so there’s still shape. Combined energy is lower (517 to 683), but conditions are glassy and clean with light offshore breezes. Afternoon of Monday July 13th brings a 2ft swell with an incredible 21‑second period – very long groundswell. That’s a point‑break dream pulse, though it’s small. The energy is moderate (1059).
Tuesday, July 14th – size bumps back up to 6ft by afternoon, period 18 seconds, energy at 2465 (moderate‑strong). The morning has rain and a fresh breeze, but the afternoon clears up.
Wednesday, July 15th and Thursday, July 16th hold 5ft‑6ft SSW swell, periods 15‑16 seconds, clean offshore winds. Combined energy ranges from 846 to 1867. This is very consistent, high‑quality surf – the reef and point set‑up will love that long‑period groundswell. The whole week from July 8th to July 16th is really good, but Wednesday and Thursday July 15‑16 are particularly nice with moderate breezes.
Friday, July 17th to Saturday, July 18th – swell drops slightly to 4ft‑5ft, periods 13‑14 seconds, lighter winds (gentle to moderate offshore). Surf is still clean and fun, less powerful.
Sunday, July 19th – size comes back up to 6ft‑6ft with a fresh offshore breeze (energy 1387‑1552). The wind is stronger here – surfable but not as smooth.
Monday, July 20th to Wednesday, July 22nd – the run continues with 3ft‑5ft SSW to SW swell, periods 13‑18 seconds. Winds stay offshore. The afternoon of Monday July 20th has an excellent call for experienced surfers at 4ft, period 13 seconds. Tuesday July 21st morning has a small 3ft swell but with an 18‑second period and excellent conditions – classic point‑break pulse.
The standouts are Wednesday July 8th afternoon and the whole stretch from Wednesday July 15th through Thursday July 16th – that’s when size, period, and wind align best. For long‑period groundswell lovers, Monday July 13th afternoon (2ft, 21 sec) and Tuesday July 21st morning (3ft, 18 sec) are very special, though small. Temples can get crowded – it’s listed as “sometimes” crowded, so expect company on the best days.
No bugs, no kite‑surf talk – this is paddle surfing all the way.
