Table - best surf conditions forecast for Temples over the next 16 days.
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about what’s coming up at Temples. This is a reef and point set-up that’s exposed to the swell, and it’s fairly consistent. The water temp is sitting at 80° right now, which is pretty much spot on average for this time of year.
The pattern starts on Friday the 10th, but it’s a bit of a slow burn. The swell is already up around 6ft from the SSW, but it’s a long period groundswell of 16 seconds, and the wind is a fresh offshore from the ESE at 22 mph. The combined energy is strong (1901), and the waves are clean, but the tide is questionable, so it’s more of a peek than a full session. That afternoon, it’s similar with 6ft and 19 mph offshore, clean but still marginal.
Saturday the 11th is where things start to get interesting. The morning has 5ft of SSW swell, period 14 seconds, and a moderate offshore breeze at 16 mph. The energy is moderate (1173), and conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon holds 5ft, same direction, and the same moderate offshore wind. This is a solid day for those who know the break.
Sunday the 12th drops down to 3ft in the morning, with a moderate offshore at 12 mph, period 13 seconds. The energy is weak (598), but the conditions are very good. It’s small but clean. The afternoon is even smaller at 3ft.
Monday the 13th is a bit of a wildcard. The morning has only 2ft, but the period is a very long 23 seconds, which is a true groundswell. The energy is moderate (646), and the offshore breeze is moderate at 16 mph. This kind of period is best for point breaks and reefs, so Temples might handle it. The afternoon picks up to 3ft with a 21-second period, energy 999. Still very good conditions, but it’s a long-period swell, so expect long lulls between sets.
Tuesday the 14th brings a proper pulse. The morning has 6ft from the SSW, period 17 seconds, and a moderate offshore at 16 mph. The combined energy is very strong (2711), and conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon is 6ft with an 18-second period, energy 2655, but the tide is questionable again. This is the standout for the first week—big, clean, and powerful.
The middle of the week—Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th—holds steady with 6ft and 5ft respectively, always offshore, but the tide issues keep it from being perfect. The energy stays strong to moderate.
The second week is mixed. From Friday the 17th through Sunday the 19th, the swell drops to 5ft to 4ft, with consistent offshore winds, but the energy is moderate to weak. The tide issues linger. Monday the 20th sees a spike again: 7ft in the morning, period 16 seconds, energy 2449, and a fresh offshore. That’s big—over 8ft later in the afternoon—so it’s expert territory. Crowds are possible here, as they can be sometimes.
The real gem in the second week is Tuesday the 21st. The morning has 6ft from the SSW, period 16 seconds, and a light offshore at just 6 mph. The energy is strong (1689), and conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. Then Wednesday the 22nd morning is glassy, with a SSE wind at 3 mph, 5ft of swell, period 14 seconds, energy 967. The afternoon is clean with a light cross-off. That’s as good as it gets for a reef break—clean, glassy, and solid.
Thursday the 23rd is glassy again in the morning, with a WSW wind at 3 mph, 4ft swell, but a long period of 12 seconds. The energy is weak (723). The afternoon is clean. Friday the 24th morning is glassy with 4ft, period 16 seconds, energy 1195, and conditions are excellent for experienced surfers. The afternoon has 5ft, clean, with a light offshore. That’s another standout.
The run ends on Saturday the 25th with a mellow morning of 5ft, period 14 seconds, and a light offshore at 6 mph, energy 998. The afternoon is 5ft with a gentle offshore. It’s all clean and very good.
Overall, the best on offer is Tuesday the 14th for the big, powerful swell, but the glassy morning of Wednesday the 22nd is a close second for pure perfection. Keep an eye on the 21st and 24th as well. For the bigger days over 5ft, it’s not a beginner spot. Surf safe.
Rusty.
