The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here, giving you the lowdown on what’s cooking at Impossibles.
The water’s sitting at about 78°, which is normal for the season, nothing freaky.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a solid run of surf kicking off. The first good call is for the afternoon of Sunday, the 23rd. We’re looking at a 6-foot SSW groundswell, with a period of 15 seconds. That’s proper energy, plenty of grunt. The wind is offshore from the SE, so it’ll be clean and lined up. This is a reef break, so it’s strictly for the advanced crew. Expect some company out there.
The surf keeps pumping through Monday, the 24th, with 6-foot SSW swell and a 16-second period, wind still offshore.
We keep the pace going into Tuesday, the 25th, with 6-foot SSW swell, same 16-second period. The morning is a bit cloudy, but the afternoon clears up with clean offshore winds.
By Wednesday, the 26th, it eases slightly to 5 feet, and the period drops to 14 seconds, so still good, just a bit less powerful.
Now, for the real standout. The afternoon of Thursday, the 27th is a special one. The swell is a modest 4 feet, but the period is a very long 20 seconds, which means those waves will have serious shape and power. The wind is a gentle cross-offshore breeze, making for clean, glassy conditions. That’s a dream setup for a reef.
Following that, Friday, the 28th, the swell jumps up to 8 feet with a 16-second period – that is big, only for experts. The morning is clean with offshore wind, but it gets a bit messy in the afternoon.
The surf stays solid through the end of August and into the first week of September. On the 1st of September, we get a 6-foot SW swell, 17-second period, and clean offshore winds. The 2nd holds 7-foot SW swell, still with great wind.
We then get a bit of a lull around the 4th, with the swell dropping to 4 feet, marking the end of the most consistent run.
But then, on the 5th of September, another big pulse arrives. The morning brings 6-foot SSW swell, and the afternoon pushes it to 7 feet, both with 16-second periods and strong energy. The wind is offshore all day on Saturday, so that’s a top-tier session.
After that, the swell drops back down through the 6th and 7th, becoming more moderate and less reliable.
The best bet is clear: the afternoon of Thursday, the 27th, for that long-period, clean, glassy gold. The second big moment is the morning of Friday, the 28th for the big-wave crew. Get after it.
Rusty.
