Table - best surf conditions forecast for Impossibles over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
The next 16 days are all about one spot: Impossibles. This reef break is a very consistent, advanced-level wave that’s fairly exposed to the SW. We’ve got a solid run of surf lined up, but there’s a bit of a slow start if you were hoping to paddle out today. The first decent action kicks off on Saturday morning, July 11th, and from there it’s a real journey.
The water temp is sitting right on 81°, which is bang on average for this time of year, so no need to worry about a wetsuit.
The real standout, the one you’re gonna want to circle on the calendar, is Tuesday, July 14th. The morning starts with a solid 6ft SSW groundswell, pulsing at a long 17 seconds, and the combined energy is pumping at a strong 2430. That’s proper grunt. The wind is a clean offshore ESE breeze all day, and by the afternoon the swell jumps to 7ft from the same SSW direction with an even longer 18-second period. Combined energy hits 2730. This is big, powerful, and clean – but at over 7ft, this is strictly for the experienced crew. The long period and SSW direction are perfect for this reef setup, so expect some beautifully shaped, heavy barrels. It’s going to be a standout day.
Before that, the weekend of July 11th and 12th is a nice warm-up. Saturday morning sees 5ft from the SW (14 seconds) with moderate offshore wind, giving you clean, powerful surf. The energy is strong (1367). Sunday drops a bit to 3ft, still clean but smaller. Monday the 13th has a weird one – a 2ft SSW swell with a massive 23-second period. That’s a very long period groundswell, which can be a bit tricky on a reef break, but it’s clean and the energy is still moderate (667). The afternoon picks up to 3ft with a 21-second period, and the energy jumps to 1073.
After the Tuesday peak, Wednesday the 15th is still solid with 7ft SSW swell in the morning and 6ft in the afternoon, but the reports mention some questionable tide conditions, so keep an eye on the water level. The wind stays clean offshore. The energy is still very strong (2137 in the morning). Thursday and Friday the 16th and 17th drop back to the 5ft range, with some rain showers possible, but the wind stays offshore.
The following week has a bit of a lull but then builds again. The second weekend, July 18th and 19th, holds at 5ft to 5ft with clean conditions. But look at Sunday the 19th afternoon – a 5ft SSW swell with a 19-second period and energy at 2399. That’s another strong pulse.
The next real standout is Monday, July 20th. It’s a week and a half out, so take it with a pinch of salt, but the numbers are mouthwatering. 8ft of SSW groundswell (17 seconds) with strong offshore winds. The combined energy is massive at 3407. That’s some serious power. This is advanced-to-expert territory again. It’s far out, but it looks like a ripper.
After that, the swell slowly backs off through the end of the month, staying in the 3ft to 6ft range with clean offshore winds most days. The 22nd and 23rd get a bit smaller, but the 24th Friday morning shows a nice 4ft SSW swell (15 seconds) with offshore wind, energy at 1359. Crowds are listed as "sometimes" at Impossibles, so on those peak days, you’ll want to be early.
The gist: If you’re an experienced surfer, July 14th and July 20th are your absolute best bets. The former is more reliable being closer, the latter is a promising long-range shot. The whole run is clean, so you’re in for a treat.
Rusty.
