Table - best surf conditions forecast for Impossibles over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks. We’ve got one spot firing, and it’s a proper one.
The pattern is set for a solid run of south-west groundswell, mostly hitting that very consistent reef at Impossibles. The standout is going to be the middle of the week starting Monday 13 July, through to Wednesday 15 July. That stretch is the best of the lot. Winds are offshore and clean, and the wave energy is pumping, ranging from moderate to strong (646 to 2749). The water temp is sitting about average for the time of year, so a standard 3/2 should do you.
Monday 13 July kicks it off. Morning sees clean 2 ft swell from the SSW at a very long 23-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy for such a small wave, so it’ll have plenty of push for a reef like this. By the afternoon, it’s up to 3 ft with still very long 21-second intervals and moderate offshore breeze – super clean. Crowds are only sometimes an issue here, so you should have some room.
Tuesday 14 July is the real highlight. The morning swell jumps to 6 ft, directions SSW, with 17-second period and a moderate offshore ESE wind. The wave energy is strong (2448). Afternoon picks up to 7 ft from SSW at 18 seconds. This is getting into expert territory at that size, but the reef will handle it. Keep in mind, with that long period, it could be a bit straight at times, but at Impossibles, that’s part of the draw. The wind stays offshore and clean all day.
Wednesday 15 July holds the quality. 7 ft in the morning, 6 ft in the afternoon, both from the SSW, with 16-second periods. The wind remains offshore and the wave energy is still strong (2138 and 1699). Another excellent day for experienced surfers.
From Thursday 16 July through to Sunday 19 July, the swell backs off a bit to the 4 ft to 5 ft range. The wind stays offshore, but the wave energy drops into the moderate range, and the forecasts are a bit more mixed, with some rain showers on the cards. It’s still fun and clean, just not the standout.
Then Monday 20 July brings the next pulse. The morning is a solid 7 ft from the SSW at 17 seconds, with moderate offshore wind. That’s a serious day, expert only, with strong wave energy (2810). The afternoon gets a little messy with rain and a change in wind. It stays clean, but the quality drops.
Tuesday 21 July morning is still worthwhile with 6 ft and 14-second period, offshore wind. After that, the wind shifts cross-offshore for the rest of the outlook, and while the swell hangs around in the 4 ft to 7 ft range, the conditions are less consistent. There are moments of quality, especially on the morning of Saturday 25 July with a 4 ft, 19-second period groundswell and light winds, but it’s not the same as that first week.
So, to sum it up: for the cleanest, strongest waves, get after it from Monday 13 July to Wednesday 15 July. Tuesday 14 July and Wednesday 15 July are your best bets for size and shape. After that, it’s a bit more of a mixed bag but still worth a paddle on the cleaner mornings.
Stay safe, keep an eye on the sets, and I’ll see you down there.
Rusty.
