Table - best surf conditions forecast for Impossibles over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a solid run of swell coming in at Impossibles, a reef break that’s very consistent and handles a SW swell perfectly. The water’s sitting at 80°, which is pretty much normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real action kicks off Monday the 13th of July in the afternoon. We’re looking at a clean 3ft SSW swell with a very long 21-second period, and the wind is a moderate offshore breeze out of the ESE. The energy’s solidly moderate (1073), but that long period means the waves will be lined up and powerful – best for the experienced crew. It’s a smaller day, but it’s a beautiful start.
Tuesday the 14th is where things start to ramp up. Morning brings a 6ft SSW swell with a 17-second period – still that long groundswell energy – and the same clean offshore wind. The combined energy jumps to 2450, so it’s getting strong. By the afternoon, the swell pushes to 7ft from the SSW with an 18-second period, energy hitting 2749. This is proper, powerful stuff. It’s in the expert zone, but for those who can handle it, the conditions are excellent. Wednesday the 15th holds similar quality: 7ft in the morning, 6ft in the afternoon, both with 16-second periods, clean offshore winds, and strong energy. This is the heart of the swell, and it’s a standout – consistent, heavy, and clean.
Thursday the 16th sees a slight drop, with 5ft in the morning and 5ft in the afternoon, but the period is still long at 15 seconds. The energy drops to around 1158, and the wind stays clean offshore. It’s still good, but the real magic is behind us.
From Friday the 17th through to Sunday the 19th, the swell holds around 4ft to 5ft, but the wind freshens up to 19 mph. It’s still offshore, but it’s a fresh breeze, so the surface will get a bit of texture. The energy stays moderate, and the period drops into the 13-16 second range. It’s still surfable, and the scores are decent, but not the standout.
Monday the 20th of July is the next big hitter. The swell jumps back up to 8ft from the SSW with a 17-second period in the morning, and the combined energy is a strong 3040. The wind is a moderate offshore breeze. This is another day for experts only – heavy, powerful, and clean. The afternoon holds at 8ft with a 16-second period, energy at 2625. This is a standout second wave, just as good as the first.
Tuesday the 21st drops to 6ft in the morning, but the wind shifts to cross-offshore in the afternoon, making it a bit less clean. The energy is still strong at 1389. From Wednesday the 22nd through to the end of the run, the swell sits between 3ft and 5ft, with periods mostly 12 to 18 seconds. The wind stays offshore but often fresh, and the energy is moderate to strong. There are some good sessions in there, like the 5ft on Tuesday the 28th of July with an 18-second period and moderate offshore wind (energy 1810), but the best of the best is definitely the 14th-15th and the 20th.
Bottom line: the standout days are Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th of July, and then Monday the 20th of July. All offer excellent, clean, powerful surf for experienced surfers. The rest of the period is good to very good, but those are the ones to circle on the calendar.
Rusty.
