Table - best surf conditions forecast for Impossibles over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. We’ve got a long stretch of surf ahead at Impossibles, a reef break that’s very consistent and handles a SW swell beautifully. The water’s sitting at 81°, which is about average for this time of year – nothing weird going on there.
The run starts on Friday the 10th but it’s not the best of starts. We’ve got 6 ft of SSW swell with a 16-second period, which is a proper long-period groundswell, but those rain showers and a fresh offshore breeze – 22 mph from the ESE – make for tricky conditions. Combined wave energy is strong at 1901, but the quality’s a bit marginal. Friday afternoon is clearer but still fresh offshore, with 6 ft and 16-second swell. It’s workable, but not the pick.
Saturday the 11th cleans up nicely. Morning sees 5 ft of SW swell, 14-second period, and a moderate offshore breeze from the ESE at 16 mph. The wave energy is moderate at 1173, but the conditions are very good. Saturday afternoon is similar, with 5 ft, same wind and direction, and a slightly higher energy of 1249. This is where it starts to feel good.
Sunday the 12th drops a bit – 3 ft in the morning, 3 ft in the afternoon, with moderate offshore winds. Energy is low (598 and 365), but the conditions are good and clean. It’s a fun, small-wave day.
Monday the 13th is a weird one. Morning has only 2 ft of swell but a massive 23-second period – that’s ultra-long-period groundswell. Energy is 646, moderate. That kind of period can make a reef like Impossibles really line up, but the size is tiny. Afternoon picks up to 3 ft with a 21-second period and energy of 999. It’s very good, but small.
Now, Tuesday the 14th is the standout. Morning delivers 6 ft of SSW swell, 17-second period, and a moderate offshore ESE breeze at 16 mph. The combined energy is 2711 – strong. The file says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers,” and I’m not arguing. This is a proper session for anyone who knows what they’re doing. The afternoon is similar at 6 ft with 18 seconds and 2655 energy, but it’s marked as marginal on tide, so keep an eye on that.
The rest of the week holds steady. Wednesday the 15th has 6 ft morning, 6 ft afternoon, both with 16-second periods and moderate offshore winds. Energy stays strong (2175 and 1755). Rain showers in the morning, but it’s clean. Thursday the 16th is very good with 5 ft, 15-second swell, and moderate offshore SE winds. Energy is 1203 and 1155.
Friday the 17th drops a bit – 5 ft and 4 ft, with rain showers and moderate offshore winds. It’s marginal, but still surfable. Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are similar: 5 ft and 4 ft, with fresh to moderate offshore winds. Energy dips to 893 and 708. Sunday afternoon picks up a bit with 4 ft and 13 seconds, energy 869, and very good conditions.
Then Monday the 20th brings another solid pulse: 7 ft in the morning, 7 ft in the afternoon, both with 16-17 second periods and strong energy (2449 and 2625). This is for experts only – over 7 ft on a reef with that period is serious. Fresh offshore winds, but it’s a big one.
Tuesday the 21st is a beauty. Morning has 6 ft, 16-second SSW swell, with a light ESE breeze at 6 mph. Energy is 1689, and the conditions are “excellent for experienced surfers.” Afternoon sees 6 ft, 15 seconds, with a cross-off SE breeze – still clean.
Wednesday the 22nd is glassy in the morning – 5 ft, 14-second swell, with a light SSE breeze at 3 mph. That’s about as clean as it gets. Energy is 967. The afternoon is clean with a light cross-off. Thursday the 23rd is glassy again in the morning, with 4 ft, 12-second swell, energy 723. Very good.
Friday the 24th brings another glassy morning: 4 ft, 16-second swell, energy 1195. That’s a beautiful long-period groundswell on a reef. Afternoon picks up to 5 ft, 16 seconds, with a light offshore SE breeze. Energy 1329. This is a top session.
Saturday the 25th wraps it up with 5 ft in the morning, 5 ft in the afternoon, both with light offshore winds and 14-second period. Energy is 998 and 1000. Very good, clean conditions.
The best of the lot? Without a doubt, Tuesday the 14th morning for the big, strong groundswell and excellent conditions. And if you want glass, Wednesday the 22nd morning and Friday the 24th morning are hard to beat.
Rusty.
