Alright, Rusty here, let’s have a look at what’s coming our way.
Right off the bat, the next couple of weeks are a tough watch for Brims Ness. We’ve got a serious stretch of flat or poor conditions to get through, with no real standouts until maybe the very end of the run. The first week is mostly a write-off, with a gap of days where I just wouldn’t bother paddling out—there’s nothing worth recommending until Tuesday the 7th.
The first flicker of hope shows up on Tuesday morning, July 7th. It’s glassy, with a 4 ft swell from the west at 9 seconds. The water’s at 54°, which is bang-on average for this time of year. The combined energy is moderate (270), and for a reef break like Brims Ness, that glassy wind is a big deal. It’ll be clean, but this is an expert-only spot, and the swell’s not huge. It’s the best on offer in the whole run, but it’s not a day to get too excited about—just a small window of okay conditions.
Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th mornings both hold clean, cross-off wind with 4 ft west swell (energy around 217-263), and while the waves are surfable, they’re still just average. No standout power or shape.
Look, the rest of the outlook is bleak. By Sunday the 12th we’re back to onshore junk, and from there it’s a long, flat, windy slide into mid-July. There’s a brief sniff of something on Monday the 20th with a 2 ft swell from the northwest and 10-second period, clean cross-off wind, but that’s tiny—only 2 ft and weak energy (103). Not worth the trip.
If you’re desperate, the Tuesday the 7th morning glass-off is the one to aim for. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or just plain messy. Keep an eye on things, but for now, it’s a pretty dry spell.
Rusty.
