The Lowdown
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what the next couple of weeks are shaping up like for us.
Honestly, it's a bit of a slow start. We've got a long stretch of nothing much happening until the end of next week. The first real glimmer of hope comes on Monday the 24th of August, and it's a bit of a double-edged sword.
The standout session is definitely Monday morning at Brims Ness. This is an exposed reef break, so it's for experts only, and it's fairly consistent. We're looking at a solid 7ft swell from the WNW with a long period of 11 seconds, which is a proper groundswell. The energy is pumping in at a strong 1203, and with a light 6 mph SE wind blowing cross-off, it's going to be clean. The water temp is sitting at 57°F, which is about normal for this time of year. That morning window is the one to circle. The afternoon on Monday still has size, but the wind picks up and the quality drops, making it a bit more marginal.
Before that, from Wednesday the 19th right through the end of the following week, it's a write-off. The wind is either onshore or cross-onshore, the swell is messy, and the conditions are just poor. There's a big gap of no good surf at all.
Heading into the second week, things get a bit more promising, but it's less certain. The last few days of August and into September, we see some cleaner conditions but the swell drops right off. The wind does go offshore or cross-off a few times, which is a positive, but the waves are small, generally under 3ft. There's a chance for a surf on Sunday the 30th of August morning with a light 6 mph SW wind, but the waves are only 3ft and pretty ordinary. The run of small, clean waves continues into the first week of September, but nothing is going to get the heart racing.
So, the call is: hold out for that Monday morning the 24th of August. That's your best bet by a long shot. Everything else is a gamble on small, clean, but weak surf.
