Table - best surf conditions forecast for Weld Road over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for Weld Road. This is a reef setup, so it handles a bit of size, but right now we’ve got a solid run of waves coming in over the next couple of weeks.
The first proper swell moves in on Thursday the 9th of July. It’s a bit of a beast to start – 8ft from the WSW with a solid 14-second period, and the combined energy is pumping hard at 5338. That’s a lot of power. The water temperature is sitting at 59°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The wind is a fresh offshore from the SSE, so the surf will be clean, but at that size, it’s really only for the experienced crew. It’s a big, powerful wave.
The real standout, though, is Friday the 10th. The morning session is the pick of the whole run. Swell is 8ft from the WSW, period jumps to a very long 18 seconds, and the energy is still massive at 4152. The wind is a moderate offshore, so conditions will be absolutely clean. This is groundswell, and it’s going to be beautiful, powerful waves with long waits between sets. Perfect for the reef. It’s big, but it’s a dream for those who can handle it. Friday afternoon is also excellent, with a cleaner 7ft swell and gentle offshore wind.
Saturday the 11th is a great follow-up. Morning has 5ft from the SW with a light offshore – clean, smaller, and more manageable. The afternoon is even better for the average surfer, with 4ft from the WSW but a very long 18-second period again. Light wind, clean, and the energy is still strong at 2058. This is a beautiful session.
Sunday the 12th is still good. Morning has 7ft from the WSW with a clean cross-off wind, but the afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a light cross-onshore. Still surfable, but not as clean.
From Monday the 13th and into Tuesday the 14th, the wind turns nasty. Fresh cross-shore and onshore winds, shorter period, choppy. It’s a write-off. The energy drops right down into the 500-600 range. Not worth paddling out.
Then, things get interesting again. Tuesday afternoon the 14th sees a switch: a 6ft swell from the WNW with a cross-off breeze and light air. It’s clean again, but the period is short at 9 seconds, so it’s a bit weak and won’t have the same push.
The next big standout is Thursday the 16th of July. This is a big one. Morning session has 10ft from the WSW at 15 seconds. The energy is back up to 3813. Light cross-off wind. This is a serious, serious swell. It’s massive, only for experts, but if you’ve got the skills, this is a day to remember. The afternoon gets a bit cross-chop, but the morning is the pick.
Friday the 17th is still excellent. 8ft from the WSW with a moderate offshore, clean and powerful. Good energy around 2207. A fantastic session.
After that, the swell slowly fades through the weekend and into the following week. The 19th of July is a nice glassy morning with 5ft from the SW at 16 seconds – a long period, clean, and a lovely session for the intermediate crowd. The energy is still decent at 1060.
The later part of the run, from the 20th onwards, is smaller and more marginal. The wind comes and goes, but there’s a few clean spells. The 24th of July has a surprise: a 5ft swell from the WSW with a very long 19-second period arriving in the afternoon. The energy is back up to 2090, but the wind is a fresh cross-off, so it’ll be clean. This is a promising one to keep an eye on, but it’s a week and a half away, so treat it as a hopeful long-range possibility.
Overall, the best on offer is Friday the 10th, morning and afternoon, and Thursday the 16th, morning. The 10th is the most consistent, clean, and powerful without being overwhelming. The 16th is for the big-wave hunters only.
This is Rusty, signing off.
