Hey, Rusty here. Let's talk about Weld Road – a solid reef break that's about to fire over the next couple of weeks. The first proper swell rolls in from the SW on Tuesday afternoon July 7, and it's a beauty. We've got an 8ft groundswell with a 15-second period, and the wind is light offshore from the SSE at 6 mph. The water's sitting at 59°F, which is pretty much average for July. That combo is giving us clean, powerful lines – excellent for experienced surfers. Combined swell energy is 2726 (moderate–strong), so there's some push behind it. Expect a few others in the water – this break can get crowded on days like this.
Wednesday July 8 morning keeps the good vibes going: 5ft SW at 14 seconds, offshore breeze from the S at 16 mph, energy 1601. Still clean and fun. But later Wednesday afternoon the swell jumps to 10ft but with a short 8-second period and strong offshore wind – that's more of a choppy, messy affair. Not worth it.
Thursday July 9 morning sees a massive 13ft S swell (10-second period) with strong offshore SSE at 25 mph. That's too big for most – only experts should even think about it. The energy reading is huge at 6822. Thursday afternoon drops to 8ft WSW at 14 seconds, still strong offshore, but the quality is marginal.
Friday July 10 is golden. Morning brings 8ft WSW at 18 seconds – that's a long-period groundswell – with moderate offshore SSE at 16 mph. Energy 4255. Afternoon is 7ft SW at 16 seconds, same offshore wind. Both slots are clean and lined up. Excellent for experienced surfers.
Now, Saturday July 11 – this is a sneaky standout. Morning: 5ft SW at 14 seconds, cross-offshore SE breeze, clean. But the afternoon? Glassy. Absolutely glassy. Wind drops to 3 mph from the SE, 4ft WSW at a very long 18 seconds, and the combined energy is 2072. That long period will wrap nicely into this reef, giving you those long, grinding walls. Sets will be spaced out, making paddle-outs easier. This is the gem of the week – if you can get out there, do it.
Sunday July 12 morning remains clean with 7ft WSW at 16 seconds, cross-offshore ENE at 6 mph. Afternoon goes cross-onshore and choppy – skip it.
From Monday July 13 through the middle of the month, the forecast turns sour. Winds shift onshore or cross-shore, swell drops, and conditions become poor. There's a gap of several days with nothing worthwhile. Even a few bigger pulses on July 15–16 bring 10–16ft SW swells, but they're accompanied by strong cross-onshore winds and heavy rain – messy and dangerous.
Then, a late bright spot: Monday July 20 morning. About two weeks out, so take it with a grain of salt, but the model shows 8ft WSW at 15 seconds with glassy conditions – 3 mph offshore from the NW. Combined energy 2652. If that holds, it'll be another clean, powerful session for experienced surfers. After that, the window closes again with onshore winds and rain.
So overall, the best bets are July 7 afternoon, July 10 morning/afternoon, July 11 afternoon (the glassy standout), and possibly July 20 morning if the long-range holds. Crowds are possible on those good days, so get in early. Stay safe out there.
