Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fitzroy Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here, let's have a look at what's shaping up for Fitzroy Beach.
The next couple of weeks are a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a decent run of southwest swell on the way, but the early part of this week is pretty ordinary. Don’t even bother paddling out until Friday morning the 10th, and even then, it’s just a warm-up. The real standout window arrives on Saturday the 11th and carries through to the following Thursday the 16th. Those are the days to clear the calendar.
Let’s break it down. Wednesday the 8th and Thursday the 9th are write-offs for good surf. The swell is there on Thursday with a solid 7ft from the WSW and a very long 16-second period, but that energy is huge – over 2500 units – and a strong 22 mph SSE wind is just trashing it. It’s a classic "look but don't paddle" scenario. That’s a lot of power, but not for us.
Friday the 10th gets things rolling with a 5ft WSW swell and a long 18-second period (moderate energy at 1566). Winds are a moderate breeze from the SSE, keeping it clean. It's okay, but not the best of the run.
Saturday the 11th is where it starts to get interesting. Morning brings a clean 4ft groundswell from the WSW with 15-second period, and we’ve got an offshore wind from the SE at just 9 mph. That’s proper clean. By the afternoon it goes glassy – 3 mph, no wind at all – with the same swell size and a period stretching to 18 seconds. The combined energy is moderate at 1110, but the conditions will make it feel much better. Crowds are possible here, so get in early.
Sunday the 12th keeps the quality up. Morning is clear with a light 6 mph easterly, keeping it clean, on a 5ft WSW swell (16-second period). The afternoon turns a bit cross-shore with a NNE breeze, still rideable, but not as good as the morning.
After a sloppy Monday and Tuesday (the 13th and 14th) with strong onshore winds and rain, we get the big prize. Wednesday the 15th morning is a gem. A 5ft WSW groundswell with a 16-second period, an offshore breeze from the SE at just 3 mph. That’s glassy conditions and the energy is strong at 1671. This is the best of the best for the confident surfer. The afternoon jumps to 8ft (energy over 3000!), but with a light cross-onshore wind, it gets a bit lumpy and only for the experienced.
Thursday the 16th delivers again. Morning is a clean 7ft swell (15-second period) with a light 6 mph cross-offshore easterly (energy 2133). The afternoon turns glassy again with a 7ft swell. This is another top-tier window.
From Friday the 17th onwards, the swell slowly fades and the winds turn more easterly or northeasterly. There are still clean waves in the morning, around 3ft to 5ft, but the consistency drops and the conditions get a little more average. By Wednesday the 22nd, it’s basically flat and messy with strong winds. Not worth the drive.
So, to sum it up: the standout is Saturday the 11th afternoon and the entire day Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th. For the best mix of size, clean conditions, and that long-period groundswell energy, lock in Wednesday the 15th morning at Fitzroy Beach. It’s a clean 5ft from the WSW, offshore wind, and plenty of power. Crowds are possible, but that’s the price of a good wave.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
