Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fitzroy Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, this is Rusty. Let's chew the fat on what's coming up for the next couple of weeks.
We got a solid run of surf on the horizon. The first few days have some decent, clean waves, but the real standout is shaping up to be later in the run. The water temp is about average for this time of year, nothing too crazy.
Friday, July 10th is a bit of a mixed bag. Morning sees a 5ft swell from the WSW, wrapping in with a very long period of 18 seconds. That's proper groundswell, but the cross-off wind leaves it a little wonky. The combined energy is strong at 1581. The afternoon drops a touch to 5ft, still a long period, but the same wind keeps it from being perfect. It's surfable, but not the pick.
Saturday, July 11th is where it starts to get good. The morning has a clean 4ft WSW swell at 15 seconds with offshore winds. That's a nice combo. But the afternoon is the real gem: glassy conditions, a 4ft swell but with a period stretching out to 18 seconds. The energy is still strong at 1110. This is clean, lined-up surf. This is your best bet for the first weekend.
Sunday, July 12th keeps the good vibes rolling. Clean 5ft swell in the morning, light cross-off wind. The afternoon gets a little tricky with a light cross-shore, but still a solid 5ft.
Monday, July 13th and Tuesday, July 14th are a write-off. The wind swings onshore and the swell gets messy. You're looking at poor conditions and a chop-fest. Give it a miss.
Wednesday, July 15th and Thursday, July 16th see a big jump in size. The swell pushes up to 7ft to 8ft from the WSW, with strong energy (2049 on Thursday morning). The problem is the wind is cross or cross-on, so it's going to be a bumpy, choppy ride. This is expert territory size-wise, but the quality is lacking. Maybe one for the kite crew.
Friday, July 17th is a welcome return to form. The morning delivers a clean 5ft WSW swell with cross-off winds. Very clean, very surfable. The afternoon drops a little to 4ft but stays clean.
Saturday, July 18th is a big, powerful day. The swell hits 8ft in the morning from the NNW, with a moderate period of 11 seconds. The energy is strong at 1812. It's clean, but at this size, it's strictly for experienced surfers only. The afternoon drops to a still-heavy 8ft.
Sunday, July 19th is a beautiful reset. Clean, light offshore winds and a 4ft to 4ft WSW swell with a 16-second period. The energy is moderate (1121). This is the kind of day you wait for. Clean, long lines, no crowds mentioned. This is a standout.
Monday, July 20th through Wednesday, July 22nd keeps the surf small but clean. Waves around 3ft to 4ft, with light offshore winds. Perfect for a log or a funboard.
Thursday, July 23rd is the smallest day of the run, with waves dropping to 2ft to 2ft. The afternoon goes glassy, so if you've got a big board, you might find a couple, but it's a real lull.
Friday, July 24th is the big finish. The morning jumps up to 7ft from the NW, a short period of 8 seconds but with clean offshore winds. The afternoon is the real standout of the whole forecast: a 8ft WNW swell, clean as a whistle with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is strong at 1080. This is a big, clean, powerful swell. For experts only, but it's the best wave on offer.
Saturday, July 25th wraps things up with a clean 3ft WSW swell at a long 16 seconds.
So, if you're picking your days, hit Sunday, July 19th for the perfect, clean, moderate swell. And for the big-wave hunters, Friday, July 24th afternoon is the one to circle.
Rusty.
