Table - best surf conditions forecast for Fitzroy Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s get into it. This is Rusty, and here’s the look ahead for your local stretch.
Alright, mates, we’ve got a solid run of surf on the way here, with plenty of quality windows to get excited about. The water’s sitting at 59°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not need the thickest rubber just yet.
Kicking off Sunday morning the 12th, this is where it’s at. Fitzroy Beach is looking unreal. We’ve got a nice 5ft swell rolling in from the WSW, a long 16-second period, and a light 6 mph cross-off breeze from the east. The conditions are clean, and the combined energy is pumping with a reading of 1136 – solid moderate energy. It’s a fantastic start, and consistent throughout the day, even if the afternoon gets a little crossed up with a NE breeze. The crowds can be a factor here, so get in early.
Monday the 13th is a write-off with strong onshore winds and rain, so give that a miss.
Tuesday morning the 14th is a bit tricky. There’s a 7ft NW swell, but the period is a short 8 seconds and the wind is a messy cross breeze. The energy is only moderate at 711, and with the onshore wind in the afternoon, it’s not worth it for a paddle. Honestly, with that setup and poor quality, this could be more interesting for the kite crew.
Wednesday the 15th brings a solid pulse of WSW swell, building to 8ft in the morning and hitting 10ft by the afternoon. The period jumps to a very long 16 seconds, and the combined energy is huge – 3479 in the morning and 4036 in the afternoon. That’s strong to very strong energy, but the winds are onshore or cross-onshore with a risk of thunderstorms. This is for experts only, and the size and wind will make it a handful at the beach.
Now, Thursday the 16th is a standout. The morning sees 8ft of WSW groundswell, a 15-second period, and glassy conditions with the wind swinging light SE at 3 mph. The energy is still very strong at 2627. This is excellent, clean surf for experienced surfers. The afternoon drops to 7ft but remains rideable with a light cross-on.
Friday the 17th drops off with a moderate cross breeze and lumpy conditions, so not a prime day.
Saturday the 18th is interesting. The morning has 5ft from the WSW, but the wind is a fresh 19 mph offshore from the SE, cleaning it up nicely. The period is 14 seconds and the energy is 1222. By the afternoon, the swell builds back to 7ft with a very long 18-second period and a strong 22 mph offshore. The energy jumps to 2654. This is a powerful, clean, offshore day for experienced surfers who can handle that wind.
Sunday the 19th is another gem. The morning serves up 6ft of WSW groundswell, 16-second period, and a light 3 mph ESE offshore wind. It’s clean, with strong energy at 1750. A great session on the cards.
The start of the next week, Monday the 20th through Tuesday the 21st, offers smaller but clean surf. The swell drops to 4-5ft with 13-14 second periods, but the wind is offshore and light to moderate. These are good, cruisy days for a longer board.
From Wednesday the 22nd, the swell takes a big dive, with heights under 3ft and energy readings dropping below 300. The wind stays offshore but it’s just too small for a proper wave. This lull lasts right through to Saturday the 25th, with barely anything surfable.
Then, on Sunday the 26th, we get a late burst. A 3ft swell from the WSW, but with a very long 19-second period, and a light cross-off breeze. The energy reading is 723, which is moderate. It’s clean and will produce some nice lines on the point, but it’s a long wait for that one.
So, to sum it up: if you’re after the absolute best, don’t miss the Sunday morning the 12th for that clean, consistent opener, and then the Thursday morning the 16th for glassy conditions and powerful swell. The Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th are also excellent for experienced surfers with strong offshore winds.
Rusty.
