Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, mates, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's coming up at Fitzroy Beach over the next couple of weeks. It's a mixed picture, but there are some days that are absolute crackers.
The first few days are a write-off. Sunday the 5th is rubbish – a tiny, weak 3ft swell and light rain, not worth even looking at. Monday the 6th has some size (around 8ft) but the wind is howling onshore, making it a complete washing machine. Give it a miss.
Things turn around on Tuesday the 7th. We've got a solid 7ft groundswell from the WSW with a 16-second period, and the wind is blowing offshore. That means clean, powerful waves. The combined energy is strong, so expect some proper, ground-up power. This is for experienced surfers only, as it's well above the beginner comfort zone. The water is about 60°F, which is a touch warmer than average for this time of year.
The swell drops through the middle of the week, with cleaner but smaller surf. Wednesday and Thursday have waist-to-chest high sets with cleaner wind, so you'll get some fun ones but nothing huge. The weekend of the 11th and 12th looks like a real highlight. Saturday morning sees clean, glassy 3-4ft waves with offshore winds – perfect for clean lines and a long session. Sunday the 12th is similar, with a beautiful 4-5ft at 16 seconds and light, clean wind. The swell energy is moderate, but that long period means the waves will have some great shape.
There's a flat, meager stretch from the 13th to the 15th. Tiny, inconsistent waves and poor winds. Then, about a week and a half out, on Thursday the 16th of July, we get a big shift. A huge, 10ft swell rolls in, but it's from the NNW with a short, 9-second period. It's a windswell, so it'll be raw and a bit lumpy. The wind is cross-off, so it'll be clean, but this is strictly for experts at that size. The energy is massive (over 5000 kJ). It stays big and chunky through the 17th and 18th, with the wind picking up strong again on the 17th.
We finish strong on Sunday the 19th with smaller, clean conditions, and then Monday the 20th looks like a beauty. A glassy morning with a clean 5ft WSW groundswell, solid period, and no wind. That's going to be a premium session to finish the forecast period.
If I'm picking the absolute best of the lot, I'd be circling Tuesday the 7th for the raw power and Sunday the 12th or Monday the 20th for the clean, long-period perfection. Get on it.
