Alright, Rusty here. Let’s get into it for Fitzroy Beach.
We’ve got a solid run of swell coming through, but it’s not all good news. There’s a bit of a wait for the really clean stuff, and some days are going to be a battle with the wind. The water temperature is running a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, sitting at around 60° (a touch warmer than normal), which is nice.
The first real standout is Tuesday morning (July 7th) at Fitzroy Beach. We’ve got a clean 7 ft swell rolling in from the WSW with a very long 16-second period. That’s proper groundswell energy (combined energy of 2339), and with a gentle offshore breeze from the ESE, it’s going to be clean and lined up. This one’s for the experienced crew though – it’s pushing over 7 ft, so beginners should sit this one out. The crowds are likely to be there, because this is the kind of session you wait for.
Another cracker looks like Friday morning (July 10th). The swell has dropped a touch to 5 ft, but that WSW swell has a very long 18-second period. The wind is offshore from the SSE, moderate, but enough to keep it clean. It’s excellent for experienced surfers again, and with moderate combined energy (1730), there’s plenty of push. This is another one to circle on the calendar.
There’s a bit of a messy patch from the 11th to the 13th, with lighter winds and smaller, more inconsistent swell. The 14th looks like a write-off – a short-period 8 ft to 10 ft NNW windswell with strong cross-onshore winds. That’s more for the kite crew than paddle surfing.
Now, looking further out, Saturday morning (July 18th) shapes up as a serious long-range promise. We’re looking at 8 ft from the WSW, with a 14-second period. The wind is a light offshore from the SSE, making for clean conditions. The combined energy is strong at 2748. It’s another one for experienced surfers, but if this holds, it will be worth the wait. The confidence is lower this far out, but the signs are good.
Finally, Tuesday morning (July 21st) is a glassy one – 7 ft from the WSW with no wind. That’s a rare treat for the more advanced surfer, but remember it’s two weeks away. Keep an eye on it.
Overall, the best windows are the morning of the 7th, the 10th, and potentially the 18th.
Rusty.
