Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's coming down the line for the next couple of weeks.
Straight up, the first few days are looking pretty tidy. We've got a bit of a wait for anything truly pumping, but the consistency is there. The real standout is going to be Sunday the 5th, and then again on Tuesday the 7th.
We kick off on Friday the 3rd at Blackhead. It's a point break that can be inconsistent, so you've gotta pick your moments, but the conditions are clean with a light cross-off breeze. Expect a 5ft swell from the east with a moderate wave energy (506). Water temp is sitting at 55°, which is just about average for this time of year.
Saturday the 4th is more of the same, with that clean 5ft east swell. The morning looks best with that cross-off wind again (537 combined energy). It's not firing, but it's a nice, clean paddle.
Now, Sunday the 5th is the first real standout. The morning is the pick. We've got a solid 7ft swell from the NE, and though the period is a shorter 8 seconds, the combined energy is a strong 1000. The wind is light and cross-off, making for clean conditions. This is excellent surf, but at 7ft, it's getting into that size where beginners might want to sit it out. That NE direction is right in the sweet spot for the break.
Monday the 6th is a write-off with poor surf and onshore winds. Not worth your time.
Tuesday the 7th is the other big one. The swell drops a touch to 6ft, but it swings around to the south with a 10-second period. The combined energy is pumping at 1096 for the afternoon. But the real kicker is the wind – glassy, zero wind. Both the morning and afternoon are looking glassy clean. This is going to be a fantastic day for experienced surfers, with clean, lined-up waves.
Things get a bit messy from Wednesday the 8th through to the 10th. The swell is there, but the wind gets into it, making conditions marginal. The 9th has some serious size at 12ft, but with a 25 mph cross-off wind, it's only for the brave or kites.
We then get a bit of a run of clean but average surf from the 11th to the 16th. The 11th has a 7ft S swell with a clean morning (852 energy), but that afternoon wind kills it. The 13th and 14th are worth a mention – the 13th afternoon is dead glassy with a 5ft SE swell (778 energy), and the 14th morning has clean 6ft SE groundswell (939 energy) with a nice period of 11 seconds.
The window closes on the 18th. The morning of Saturday the 18th has a clean, light breeze and a 4ft SE groundswell with a very long 15-second period (561 energy). That long period will make for some long walls at the point, but it might break a bit straight. It's a good option if you're patient.
Overall, the best on offer are the mornings of Sunday the 5th and Tuesday the 7th. Get on them.
Rusty.
