The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's cookin' at Glen Eden.

The water is about 69°, which is normal for this time of year. Glen Eden is a reliable point break, and it gets the swell from the ESE. The first few days are a tough watch. Starting Thursday the 30th and Friday the 31st, we got waves around 5ft to 6ft, but the wind is cross-on, making it choppy. The energy is moderate (1466-599). It's not worth the drive. Saturday and Sunday, the 1st and 2nd of August, get worse with the wind staying onshore and the swell getting bigger, up to 7ft. The energy is moderate to strong (1125-1147), but the wind is killing it. This looks more like a kiteboarding session than a surf session.

But then, Monday the 3rd of August. The morning is glassy. That's a huge win. The swell is a clean 6ft from the east, with a period of 10 seconds, and the energy is moderate (777). This is the clear standout of the first week. The wind is almost nothing, so the point will be clean and fun. Just get out there early, because the wind turns cross-on in the afternoon.

The rest of the week is a letdown. Tuesday through Thursday are small, from 6ft down to 2ft, with shorter periods. The energy drops off a cliff (225 down to 99). The wind is clean, but there's no power to surf. The 5th of August is chest-high at best, but clean. The 6th is tiny.

Looking ahead, there's a bigger swell on Friday the 7th of August. We're talking 7ft from the SSW with a very long period of 14 seconds. The energy is strong (2147). This is a serious groundswell, but the wind is cross and onshore, making it a messy prospect. This is a long-range call, so keep an eye on it. The 8th and 9th have some size, but the wind is iffy. The morning of the 9th of August has a 7ft easterly swell with clean cross-off wind, which is a decent option for a Sunday session, but it's over a week away.

The second week fizzles out. From the 10th through the 14th, we're looking at day after day of waves under 3ft, with energy in the hundreds. The wind is often clean, but there's no wave height. The 12th of August has a 7ft S swell, but it's cross-shore, so it's a gamble. Your best bet is absolutely Monday the 3rd of August morning. The 9th of August morning is a promising long-range option, but less certain. For now, I'm sticking with that Monday glassy morning.

Rusty.
