Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a long-range look at North Beach. Let's see what this stretch has in store for us.
We’ve got a bit of a slow start, but a real standout window is shaping up. The first few days are a bit of a mixed bag, then the middle of the month brings some proper energy. Overall, the water temp is sitting around 71°, which is about average for this time of year, so no surprises there.
The first real chance to get wet comes on Friday, July 3rd. It's not the best, though. The swell is a solid 8ft from the south, but with a 15 km/h cross-shore wind, it's going to be a bit lumpy. The combined energy is strong (2081), but the onshore wind makes it a slog. Definitely one for the experienced crew only, and even then, you'll be working for your waves.
Now, Saturday, July 4th is where we wake up. The morning is looking prime. The swell ticks up to 8ft from the SSE with a period of 12 seconds – that’s some proper groundswell energy (2199). But the real star is the wind: glassy. Absolutely dead calm. This will be clean as a whistle. For intermediate and up, this is the session to circle. The afternoon holds a similar 7ft swell, but the wind goes cross-shore, so the morning is the clear winner.
Sunday the 5th and Monday the 6th see the swell drop and the wind turn unfavourable, with cross-onshore conditions killing the quality. By Tuesday and Wednesday the 7th and 8th, we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel with poor surf and minimal energy.
We get a slight pulse again on Thursday, July 9th. The afternoon brings a 5ft south swell with a 12-second period (energy at 727), but the wind is howling onshore from the east at 15 km/h. Not going to be pretty.
Then comes the main event. Friday, July 10th is a long-range standout. The afternoon session sees a 6ft south swell, but look at that period – 17 seconds! That’s very long-period groundswell, and the combined energy is sky-high at 1905. Even better, the wind is a clean cross-offshore from the SSW at 25 km/h. The waves are going to be lined up and clean.
The follow-up on Saturday, July 11th is absolute chaos, but in a good way if you’re an expert. The morning shows an 8ft south swell with a 16-second period. The combined energy is a monstrous 3480. That is a lot of power. The wind is a light cross-onshore, so it won't be perfect, but for the big-wave chargers, this is the day. It’s way too big for anyone else. The afternoon stays big at 8ft but gets choppy.
After the 11th, the swell slowly fades through the second week, with wind staying mostly cross-onshore. There are a few days with some residual long-period energy (like the 13th and 17th) but the wind just ruins it. It’s not looking great for the second week, so make the most of that first Saturday and the following Friday.
Because this is a beach and pier setup, and with those big, windy days around the 11th, the setup is honestly looking more interesting for a kite session than a paddle session during the peak of that swell if you aren't an expert.
Stay stoked, catch you in the water.
Rusty.
