The Lowdown
Hey folks, it's Rusty. Let's break down what's coming up at North Beach for the next couple of weeks. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but we've got a few moments that'll get the stoke going.
The first few days are a bit of a write-off with messy, choppy conditions, but we start to see some real potential rolling in. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing unusual there.
Tuesday, July 14th is a no-go. Expect a lumpy, cross-onshore mess with a 7ft ESE swell and a combined energy of (871). Just not worth the paddle.
Wednesday, July 15th is where it gets interesting. The morning is looking like a winner. The wind goes glassy, and we've got a clean 7ft E swell, period 10 seconds. This is the kind of session you dream about. The energy is moderate (820), and with those conditions, North Beach will be smooth and fun. This is a standout.
Thursday, July 16th morning is another glassy gem. The swell drops to 5ft from the E, but still with that clean 10-second period. Energy is moderate (575). The afternoon turns onshore and messy, so get your fill in the AM.
Friday, July 17th morning is small but clean. Glassy conditions with a 4ft E swell. It's gentle, but it's surfable. The combined energy is weak (307).
Saturday, July 18th and Sunday, July 19th see a shift to a S swell, but it's held up by cross-onshore winds. The swell is small (3ft to 5ft) with a long period of 12-15 seconds, but the wind is spoiling it. The energy is moderate (956 down to 728), but the quality isn't there.
Monday, July 20th is a big one, but it's not for everyone. We have a massive 12ft to 13ft S swell rolling in. The combined energy is pumping at (2818) and (5669). This is expert territory only. The wind is clean in the morning, but the size is just too much for this spot. It'll be a sight to see, but leave the longboard at home.
Tuesday, July 21st to Thursday, July 23rd is a mixed run. Tuesday morning has a 7ft S swell (1206 energy) but with cross-on winds. It's a bit of a battle. Thursday afternoon has a clean cross-off wind, but a smaller 4ft SE swell.
Friday, July 24th and Saturday, July 25th are a return to poor conditions with choppy, cross-onshore winds and dropping swell. A couple of days to skip.
Sunday, July 26th is a bit of a wildcard. It's a clean cross-off wind, but it's blowing a fresh 22 mph. The swell is a weak 4ft from the SE (281 energy). Probably more of a windsurf or kite session than a paddle surf.
Monday, July 27th morning catches a break. A glassy morning with a 4ft swell from the NE. The energy is weak (243), but the conditions are clean. A small window of opportunity.
Tuesday, July 28th and Wednesday, July 29th look like a return to poor, choppy conditions with decreasing swell.
So, for the best surf on offer, lock in Wednesday, July 15th morning for the cleanest, most fun waves. Thursday, July 16th morning is a close second. For the big wave crew, Monday, July 20th is the one, but it's strictly for experts.
Stay stoked, and I'll see you out there.
