Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here again, speaking imperial now.
We’re looking at a quiet start at North Beach – nothing worth paddling out for until Thursday July 9th. The first few days are small and choppy under cross-onshore winds, so save your wax.
Thursday July 9th: South swell shows up around 5ft with a long 13-second period, combined wave energy of 751 (moderate). Light cross-shore wind from the south keeps it clean. Water temp is 71°, right on average for the season. Good for an intermediate surfer who’s keen.
Friday July 10th is the big one. South swell hits 7ft to 7ft with a 15-second period, combined energy at 1916-2021 (strong). That’s serious power. Light cross-shore winds keep the surface clean. This is expert-only size – over 8ft it’d be too much, but this is a proper groundswell with long lulls between sets. The waves that come will be heavy and holding up best for those with experience.
After Friday, it fades. Saturday and Sunday go back onshore and messy. Tuesday July 14th offers a clean morning with 4ft south swell at 10 seconds and light offshore-ish winds – combined energy 466 (moderate). A sessionable wave for intermediate surfers.
Then a gap until Saturday July 18th afternoon, when it goes glassy with a tiny 3ft south swell but a very long 17-second period, combined energy 676 (moderate). That long-period groundswell will be clean but may break a bit straight on this beach/pier setup – bring the longboard.
Sunday July 19th still has waist-high south swell with light cross-shore winds – okay but nothing special.
Top pick is Friday July 10th – biggest swell of the stretch, clean cross-shore wind, and serious south groundswell. Experts only. Second pick is Thursday July 9th – smaller but still clean and better than the rest.
North Beach faces south, which is our best direction, so she’ll light up right when the swell hits. Crowds can show up sometimes, so keep an eye out.
Rusty.
