Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, and I’ve been looking over the charts for the next couple of weeks. Let me tell ya, it’s a slow start and a bit of a mixed bag, but there are a few windows to keep an eye on.
Alright, so the first surf I’d even bother mentioning is on Thursday, July 9th at North Beach. The morning is a write-off, but by the afternoon we get a pulse of 4 ft swell coming from the south. It’s a long-period groundswell at 14 seconds, which usually means better shaped waves, but it’s coming straight onshore and the water temp is sitting about average for the time of year. The energy is still moderate (514), but the forecast is only marginal, so I wouldn’t get too excited.
Friday, July 10th is where things start to get a bit more interesting. The south swell bumps up to 6 ft in the morning, still with that very long period of 16 seconds. The energy jumps right up to a strong 1807. The wind is light and cross-shore, so the sets should be holding some nice lines. This is for intermediate surfers, as it’s big enough to be a handful for beginners. By the afternoon, it pushes to 7 ft and gets a bit bumpy with the cross-onshore wind, but the morning session looks like the standout of the first week.
Saturday, July 11th drops back a touch. The morning has 5 ft from the south with a 13-second period, and the wind is almost glassy, very light cross-shore. That’s clean for sure, and the energy is still solid at 773, but it’s not quite the punch of Friday. The afternoon gets choppier.
Now, we’ve got a quiet few days after that. From Sunday, July 12th through Tuesday, July 14th, the surf is small and messy or clean but weak. Monday, July 13th morning has a 6 ft swell from the ESE, but the period is short at 9 seconds, so it’s a bit of a windswell feeling, even if the wind is offshore and clean. Not a standout.
Then there’s a little window on Wednesday, July 15th. The morning is glassy, dead flat water, and there’s a 4 ft south swell wrapping in at 9 seconds. That clean, glassy condition is a major positive, and the energy is right on the cusp of moderate (500). It’s not a big wave, but with no wind, it’ll be smooth.
Looking further out, there isn’t one big standout event. The longer-range stuff for Tuesday, July 21st shows 7 ft from the ENE in the morning with light onshore wind. The period is short (7 seconds), but the energy is almost strong at 994. The confidence is lower this far out, but if it comes together, that could be a fun session if you don’t mind a bit of a bumpy take-off. Wednesday, July 22nd morning has a similar size (7 ft) and direction (ENE), with fresh offshore winds from the SSW cleaning it up, and energy over 1000 (1025). That’s promising for an expert-level session, but it’s a week and a half away, so don’t plan your life around it just yet.
Overall, the best bet of the whole run is looking like the Friday morning of July 10th. That 6 ft south swell with that long 16-second period and light cross-shore wind has some real potential for North Beach (United States). Crowds are possible there, so get in early.
If you’re a beginner, steer clear of anything above 5 ft, which is most of the action here, so pick the glassy morning on the 15th for a manageable, clean 4 ft wave.
That’s the picture from here. Keep an eye on the long-range stuff, but for now, pencil in that Friday.
