Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Beach over the next 16 days.
Alright, surfers, Rusty here. Let’s take a look at what North Beach has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
It’s been a bit of a flat start, but things start to pick up on Wednesday morning, July 8th, with a tiny 1ft swell from the SE. It’s weak, with only 70 units of energy, and a short period of 9 seconds. The wind is cross-onshore, making it choppy, and the conditions are honestly poor. Not worth getting wet for. The water temp is sitting at 73°, which is close to average for this time of year.
Thursday morning on July 9th offers a glimmer of hope. We see a 2ft swell from the S, but with a very long period of 15 seconds. That's a proper groundswell, and combined energy jumps to 328 – still moderate though. The wind is cross-shore and light, so it might be a bit bumpy but could offer a few fun ones. The afternoon sees the swell jump to 5ft from the S, with that same long 14 second period and a significant 879 units of energy. However, the wind is cross-onshore again, which will ruin the shape.
Now, Friday July 10th is the standout of this forecast. The morning delivers a solid 7ft swell from the S with a 15-second period, and the combined energy is a powerful 2081. That’s big, grunty surf. The wind is light and cross-shore, meaning the lines could be pretty clean at this exposed beach. This is for the intermediate crew, anyone else might want to sit it out.
Saturday July 11th still has some size, with a 5ft swell from the S in the morning and dropping a touch to 5ft in the afternoon. The wind goes light offshore from the East in the afternoon, which could clean things up nicely for a session. Conditions are still marginal but the wind shift is a positive sign.
From Sunday July 12th through to Monday July 13th, the swell drops off and the wind turns nasty, with strong cross-onshore winds making for choppy, messy conditions. This is a write-off.
We get a small window on Tuesday July 14th. The afternoon looks clean with a light cross-offshore wind and a 5ft swell from the E. The period is only 8 seconds though, so it’s a short-period windswell, not much grunt (353 units of energy), but the clean conditions will make it surfable.
Wednesday and Thursday, July 15th and 16th, are a mixed bag. Thursday afternoon July 16th is worth a mention – a 5ft E swell, 10 second period, and glassy conditions. That’s going to be smooth and clean.
After that, we hit a long dry spell of rubbish conditions with strong winds and messy surf all the way through to the end of the forecast. There are a few clean moments on the 18th and 22nd of July, but the swell is small and weak, offering little to get excited about.
So to wrap it up, your best bet by a long shot is Friday morning July 10th at North Beach. The 7ft S groundswell with near-perfect wind is the clear winner. After that, keep an eye on the 14th and 16th for some cleaner, smaller waves.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
