Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s see what North Beach is serving up over the next couple of weeks.
First off, you’re gonna need some patience. The early days are flat or just plain messy – light cross-onshore breezes and weak, short-period dribble. Not worth wetting your wetsuit for. That stretch runs through to Wednesday the 8th of July. There’s a tiny flicker on Wednesday afternoon when the wind turns cross-off and cleans it up, but the swell is tiny and weak. Barely ankle-knocker.
Now, Thursday the 9th of July morning is where it gets real. We’ve got a solid 6ft groundswell from the south, with a long 14-second period pushing in a heap of energy. The wind is light and cross-off from the SSW, keeping the faces clean. This is proper intermediate territory – powerful, well-shaped lines. Water temp is about average for the time of year. This is the top call for the early run.
Friday the 10th of July morning is a carbon copy – same 6ft south swell at 14 seconds, light cross-off breeze, clean conditions. Get out early because the afternoon gets messy as the wind picks up and swings cross-shore.
Saturday the 11th of July morning is another gem. The swell drops a little to about 5ft from the south, still a nice 12-second period, but the wind goes glassy. Dead flat calm. That’s a rare treat – smooth, clean waves with no chop. The energy is moderate. This would be a beautiful morning session.
After Saturday, things go south fast. Sunday the 12th through the middle of the next week is a write-off – strong winds, choppy conditions, poor quality. The swell hangs around but the wind ruins it.
We get a little hope on the morning of Thursday the 16th of July. The wind turns glassy again, and we see a 6ft swell from the ESE with a 10-second period. The faces should be clean, but the period is moderate, so it’s more of a fun, punchy wave than a long wall. Still, with glassy conditions, it’s worth a look.
The big dog shows up on Saturday the 18th of July. A massive 15ft south-southwest swell with 12-second period rolls in, and the energy is through the roof. But here’s the truth – that’s too big for North Beach. The wind is light cross-shore in the morning, but the swell is genuinely dangerous for anyone but absolute experts, and even then, it might be a washing machine. The afternoon drops to about 12ft but the wind goes cross-onshore and choppy. More of a spectator event, or maybe a kite session. Not for paddle surfing unless you’re seriously experienced.
The following Sunday morning, the 19th of July, drops back to a more manageable 8ft from the south, with a cross-off breeze that cleans it up. Still big and powerful, but more doable for strong intermediates. That’s a possible session if you pick your waves carefully.
After that, the swell fades into the 20th of July with a weak, wind-affected 5ft. The run ends with a whimper.
If I had to pick the best of the bunch, I’d say Thursday morning the 9th of July and Saturday morning the 11th of July are your standout windows. Both have clean conditions, solid south groundswell, and good energy. That Saturday glass-off is a rare beauty. Get on it.
Rusty.
