Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what North Beach has in store for us over the next couple of weeks.
This forecast is a bit of a slow burner, to be honest. We’ve got a lot of days coming up with poor conditions and only a few windows where it’s really worth paddling out. You’ll have to be patient.
First up, the start of the period looks pretty grim. Monday the 6th through to Thursday morning the 9th are all rated as poor or marginal. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, and the swell is tiny or messy, so don’t bother getting wet.
Things start to get a little more interesting from Thursday afternoon, the 9th. We see a solid push of S swell arriving, with 4ft at 14 seconds from the south. That's a proper groundswell with long period, so it’ll have some real push and shape. The combined wave energy is moderate (584). The wind is still cross-shore though, so it won't be perfect.
Friday the 10th brings the biggest swell of the run. Morning sees 7ft from the south at 15 seconds, a very long period groundswell, with the energy jumping right up to strong (1867). That kind of size is getting into expert-only territory. The wind remains cross-shore, and with rain showers around, it’s a marginal call.
The standout for me, the one to really circle on your calendar, is Monday morning, July 13th. The swell drops back to a more manageable 6ft from the SSW, but the period is a short 7 seconds. What makes this the pick is the glassy conditions. The wind is practically nothing from the SE, so the ocean will be clean as a whistle. The wave energy is still strong (702). This is your best shot at some clean, punchy waves at North Beach. Get on it early.
Later that afternoon, the wind picks up from the SSW, and Tuesday the 14th sees a jump in size to 8ft from the south. That’s big, and while the wind is cross-offshore (clean), the size and short period mean it’s only for the experts.
After that, the week of the 15th to the 21st is mostly a write-off. There are a few small windows of cross-off and cross winds with knee-to-waist-high swell, but the wind and consistency just aren’t there. The final few days from the 19th onwards look particularly poor with choppy, onshore wind.
So in short: tough start, one excellent glassy window on the 13th, and then back to poor conditions. The water temp at the start of the run is sitting at 72°, which is about average for this time of year.
Rusty.
