Alright, let’s talk in feet and miles per hour for you land of the free crew.
North Beach is going to be a tough stretch for a while. The first several days are just not worth it – poor surf, bumpy conditions, tiny waves. Don’t bother until we get a pulse.
Thursday the 9th morning sees a clean little south groundswell at about 2 ft, but it’s tiny and the energy is weak. Thursday afternoon picks up to 4 ft from the south but the wind goes cross-shore and it’s only so-so.
Friday the 10th is where it starts to heat up. Morning you’ve got 6 ft south swell with a 16-second period – that’s proper long-period groundswell, strong energy at 1421. Afternoon pushes to 7 ft south, still long period, combined energy jumps to 2133. That’s big, powerful surf – too big for beginners, and the long period on a beach break could make it close out. Morning has light cross-shore breeze, but still wave quality is marginal due to tide or power.
Saturday the 11th morning has glassy offshore ENE wind – that’s a game changer for clean conditions. Swell about 5 ft with a 13-second period, energy around 667. Afternoon turns cross-onshore, so hit the early session.
The big standout, the one to really plan around, is Wednesday the 15th morning. 7 ft from the SSW, glassy ENE wind – dead flat water, perfect texture. Strong energy at 1082. That’s expert territory for size, but the conditions will be absolutely pristine. Afternoon still holds size but gets a light cross-onshore bump.
Then we hit a lull from Thursday the 16th through Saturday the 18th – small and weak.
Next real window is Sunday the 19th morning: 8 ft from the south, short 7-second period, clean offshore wind. That’s big but short and chunky. Energy is moderate at 694.
Monday the 20th looks beautiful: 4 ft south groundswell with an 11-second period, clean offshore wind, energy at 589. Afternoon is 3 ft with glassy conditions. That’s a fantastic, manageable day for a good session. Crowds are “sometimes” here, so expect some company.
Tuesday the 21st morning holds 3 ft of very long period 15-second south swell, light offshore, energy at 634 – clean and lined up, though the long period might make it fickle on a beach break.
Bottom line: Wednesday the 15th is the power session if you’ve got the cojones for big clean surf. Monday the 20th is the sweet spot for fun, clean, manageable waves. Everything else is a waiting game.
