The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what North Beach has in store for us. It’s gonna be a bit of a slow burn to start, but there’s some proper juice coming down the line if you’ve got the patience.
Right now, we’re looking at a bit of a flat spell. The first solid recommendation doesn’t really kick in until Friday morning, the 17th of July. So, Thursday is a write-off.
Thursday morning, the 16th, we’ve got a weak 4.6ft Easterly swell, but it’s cross-onshore and the energy is low (467). Not worth paddling out for.
Friday, 17th July – The first real window. Friday morning is where it’s at. Glassy conditions, with a clean 3.9ft Easterly swell. The water temp is sitting right around 71.2°, which is pretty much average for this time of year. The energy is moderate (333), and with that glassy surface, it’ll be smooth. The swell is a bit short-period (10 seconds), but for a morning session, it’s your best bet early on.
Friday afternoon, the wind swings Southerly and the swell drops to 3.6ft. It gets a bit messy with a cross-shore wind. Not ideal.
Saturday, 18th July – Small and choppy. Morning has a 3.3ft Easterly swell, but it’s cross-onshore. The afternoon drops to 2.3ft from the South with a longer period (13 seconds), but the energy is still moderate (393) and the wind is light and cross-onshore. Not really worth getting excited about.
Sunday, 19th July – Building but messy. Swell is building from the SSE, hitting 5.6ft by the afternoon, and the energy is ramping up (1153). But the wind is a raw 12 mph cross-onshore from the NE, making it choppy. This is only for the keen and the kited.
Monday, 20th July – The first real standout. Monday morning is the pick of the early week. We’ve got a solid 5.9ft SSE swell, with a clean, cross-off wind from the South. The wave energy is strong (1055), and the conditions are actually clean. The period is a decent 12 seconds, so it’ll have some push. This is a proper intermediate window. If you’re free, get out there Monday morning. The afternoon holds similar size but the wind goes cross-on, so morning is the go.
Tuesday, 21st July – Deteriorating. The swell drops back to 4.6ft, and the wind is on it again. By the afternoon, it’s 16 mph and choppy. Surf quality is poor.
Wednesday, 22nd July – Small and clean. The morning offers a tiny 2.6ft Southeast swell, but it’s clean with a light cross-off wind. Good for a longboard or a fish, but not much power.
Thursday, 23rd July – Glassy, but small. Thursday morning is glassy again with a 3.3ft SSW swell. The period is a long 14 seconds, which means it’ll have some shape, but it’s really small. Energy is moderate (533). A nice morning for a paddle, but not a standout.
Friday, 24th July – Size returns, but wind is a factor. The swell jumps to 4.6ft from the SSW with a very long period of 17 seconds. The energy is strong (1241). But the wind is cross-onshore from the NE. It’s a long-period groundswell, so it’ll be fat and lined up, but the wind might mess with the surface. Worth a look if you’re desperate.
Saturday, 25th July – Glassy morning. Saturday morning is glassy again with a 3.6ft S swell at 14 seconds. Energy is moderate (533). Clean conditions, but small. A good
