Table - best surf conditions forecast for North Beach over the next 16 days.
G’day, Rusty here. Look, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag coming up at North Beach. The first few days are pretty average, but there are a couple of windows that’ll be worth paddling out for.
The week kicks off with a bit of a groan. Monday the 13th is a write-off, with a messy 4ft SE swell and a cross-on breeze that’s just choppy. The wave energy is sitting at 393 (weak) and the water’s a warm 72°, which is about normal for this time of year. Tuesday’s not much better – there’s a bit more size, around 7ft, but it’s still cross-on and choppy, so it’s a no-go.
Wednesday the 15th is where things start to turn. The morning’s still a bit messy with 6ft E swell and light cross-on wind, but it’s the afternoon that’s a proper standout. The wind goes glassy, dead flat, and the swell drops to a clean 6ft from the east, with a solid 10-second period. The wave energy bumps up to 589 (moderate). That’s the kind of session you’ll be thinking about all week. The east swell is a good match for the optimum direction, and with glassy conditions, it’ll be clean and lined up. Perfect for intermediates.
Thursday the 16th morning carries that glassy vibe with a 5ft east swell, same 10-second period. It’s clean again, but the afternoon gets ruined by an onshore wind. Friday the 17th is a drop-off, with small 4ft surf and cross winds, not worth the effort.
Now, there’s a bit of a quiet patch from Saturday the 18th through to Monday the 20th. Saturday brings a 3ft S swell with a very long 15-second period, but it’s cross-shore and light rain. The wave energy is high at 905 (moderate), but the direction isn’t great for the beach. Sunday afternoon is worth a mention – glassy winds and 5ft from the ENE, but the period is short at 7 seconds, so it’ll be a little crumbly.
Tuesday the 21st sees a jump in size to 7ft from the NE, but it’s cross-on and choppy again. That one’s for the experts only, and even then, the wind’s messy.
The real sleeper here is Sunday the 28th. That’s over a week away, so keep it pencilled in. The Tuesday morning shows a 8ft ENE swell with an 8-second period and clean, cross-off wind from the SSW. The wave energy is pumping at 1088 (strong). That’s excellent for experienced surfers – solid, powerful waves, and the wind is cleaning it right up. The ENE direction is a bit off the optimum, but with that size and clean conditions, it’ll be a standout if it holds. Crowds are possible at North Beach, but on a Tuesday morning you might get it to yourself.
Overall, Wednesday afternoon the 15th is the best bet in the near term, and that Sunday the 28th morning is the long-range one to watch.
