Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cave Rock over the next 16 days.
Alright, crew, Rusty here. Let’s break it down. We’ve got a solid window for the experienced lot at Cave Rock, a reef setup that needs the right direction. Water temp is about 73°F, which is dead average for this time of year.
The first few days are a write-off. Thursday the 9th is a total mess with onshore wind and weak, jumbled energy. Friday the 10th morning is our first real standout. We’re looking at a clean 7ft swell from the south with a 15-second period – that’s proper groundswell. The combined energy is a strong 1813, and with glassy conditions, it’s going to be a beautiful morning for the advanced surfer. That’s the pick of the first week.
Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th are a letdown, with onshore winds and less energy. The swell drops and gets messy.
Monday the 13th morning offers a second chance. A glassy morning with a 5ft easterly swell, but the period is a short 7 seconds, so it’ll be a bit weaker. The energy is only 531, so it’s a fun, smaller option but not a standout.
We then hit a bit of a lull. The rest of the week through to the 18th sees average to poor conditions with onshore winds and smaller, weaker swells. Saturday the 18th morning has a tiny 3ft glassy swell, but it’s not going to get the heart racing.
Now, looking ahead to the second week, there’s a big one on the horizon. Thursday the 23rd brings a long-period 17-second groundswell from the south. The morning is a bit contested with a cross-shore wind, but the energy is a massive 1354. At 4ft, it’s not huge, but that period is something special. The afternoon on the 23rd kicks up to a 6ft east swell with a solid 1124 energy. It’s a promising but less certain call this far out, so keep an eye on it.
The real monster might be Sunday the 19th morning. An 8ft south-east swell with 1526 energy, but it’s getting hammered by a 12 mph cross-onshore wind, making it choppy and messy. The afternoon is smaller but cleaner. That one is for the experts only if the wind plays ball.
The 24th Friday morning has a 7ft east swell, but again, wind is a factor. For the most part, the second half of the forecast looks like a waiting game for that long-period groundswell to team up with the right wind.
Rusty, signing off.
