Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ansteys over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here. Let's talk about what's on the table for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a wait. The first few days aren't really worth paddling out for, with some rough and choppy conditions through Saturday the 11th and a bit of a stormy feel. The real action starts to shape up for Sunday morning, the 12th of July. That’s the standout window in the whole outlook.
Sunday morning, July 12th at Ansteys is shaping up to be a beauty. We’re looking at a 4ft swell from the south with a 12-second period, giving it some proper groundswell energy. The wind is glassy, near calm, so the surface will be like a mirror. The water temp is sitting at 72°, which is about average for this time of year. The wave energy is moderate (525). This is the one to aim for.
After that, the week gets a bit messy. Monday the 13th brings a jump in size to 5ft from the ESE, but the period drops to 8 seconds and the wind turns cross, making it lumpy. Tuesday through Thursday offers some hope on Thursday morning, July 16th, with another glassy session and a 5ft easterly swell at 10 seconds. That’s a solid option, but the energy is a bit less (452), and the swell direction is slightly off the optimum.
Then things get wild. The weekend of July 18th and 19th sees a big increase in swell energy, hitting 1411 and 1722. That’s a strong pulse of energy, with waves reaching 6ft to 7ft from the south. The period on the 18th afternoon is a very long 16 seconds – that’s proper groundswell. This is expert territory, and it’ll be breaking straight at a beach break, so it might be better suited for a point or reef. The wind is blowing onshore at times, so it’s going to be a messy, powerful beast. For the average surfer, this is more of a spectacle than a session.
The second week sees the swell drop off significantly. There are a few clean windows with offshore winds on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st, with 6ft to 7ft waves from the ENE, but the period is short (7-8 seconds). The energy is still moderate, but those shorter-period swells won't have the same punch. By the 22nd, it’s all dropping away, with small, weak waves and poor winds. The last few days of the forecast are pretty much flat, with the energy dropping to 43 and 97, and the wind howling. It’s a definite fade out.
So, to sum it up: Sunday morning, July 12th is the absolute best call for clean, fun waves. If you're an expert looking for a challenge, keep an eye on Saturday the 18th, but be ready for a raw, powerful ocean. The rest is mostly a waiting game.
Rusty.
