Righto, mate, let’s swap over to feet and Fahrenheit for a fair dinkum look.
Water’s at 71° – right on the money for the season, nothing crazy.
Friday morning, July 3rd, is the real gem here. We’ve got an 8-foot swell coming from the south, with a long period of 13 seconds. Wind is dead glassy from the SSE at 3 mph. The wave energy is pumping at 2348, so the ocean is grunty. This is top-tier groundswell, and for an exposed break like Ansteys, it’s going to fire. But at over 8 feet, this is for the advanced crew only. The water will be clean, rippable, and powerful.
Saturday morning, July 4th, dishes up pretty much the same – 8 feet of south swell, still glassy with light SSE winds. Energy is still massive at 2024. Crowds are a “sometimes” thing here, and with conditions like this, you’ll be sharing it with a few other keen locals.
Sunday, July 5th, the swell backs off to about 6 feet from the SSE, but the wind turns clean cross-off from the NNE at 9 mph. Energy drops to 840, still a fun, clean ride for intermediates.
After that, it gets quiet. Monday and Tuesday are small, under 3 feet, and not worth suiting up for.
From Wednesday, July 8th, right through to the 16th, it’s pretty average. Strong cross-onshore winds and lumpy, choppy surf. Energy drops right down to 58 at the worst of it – just not your time.
Keep an eye on Friday, July 17th. There’s a new 5-foot south swell due with a long 12-second period, and glassy conditions in the morning with east winds at 3 mph. The energy looks solid at 955. It’s a sniff of something good, but it’s a long way off, so don’t book your flights just yet.
Rusty.
