Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ansteys over the next 16 days.
Alright, let’s switch to feet and Fahrenheit for the imperial heads.
First off, don’t expect much this week. We’ve got a bit of a slow start, with Monday and most of Tuesday only offering poor to marginal conditions. The wind is mostly cross or cross-shore, bumping things up, and the swell energy is moderate (444 to 687 energy units) but it’s just not lining up right. Monday morning is a write-off – clean looking sky but the swell’s from the south at 3ft with a short 11-second period and cross-shore wind ruining it. The water temp’s about average for this time of year, nothing wild there.
Now, here’s the standout. Thursday 16 July morning at Ansteys is the one to circle. We’re looking at glassy conditions – that’s a massive positive – with a clean easterly swell at 5ft, period stretching to 10 seconds. The energy’s moderate (484) but that glassy wind will make it feel way better than the numbers suggest. Crowds are possible here, so get in early. The swell direction is east, and this break likes an east swell, so it’s a good match.
After that, it gets messy again. Friday is a total loss with fresh cross-onshore winds and lumpy surf. Saturday 18 July morning brings a bigger pulse – 5ft south swell with a long 16-second period and very strong energy (1366). But it’s onshore wind and the conditions are marginal, mixed with light rain. That long period south swell could be a bit straight for this beach setup, but for the more experienced, it might offer a few standout sets if the wind plays ball.
The rest of the second week is a mixed bag. Sunday 19 July has clean cross-offshore wind in the morning with 5ft south swell and solid energy (649), but then the wind cranks up to 25 mph in the arvo and it’s game over. From Monday 20 July morning, we drop back to tiny 3ft swell with clean wind but not much juice. The gap between Thursday and the next reasonable window is a few days of poor to marginal conditions. The last real chance might be Saturday 25 July morning, but cross-onshore wind at 22 mph and only 3ft east swell is more for the windsurfing crew.
Bottom line: Thursday morning 16 July is your best bet – glassy, clean, and a decent east swell. The rest is either too windy, too small, or too lumpy to get excited about until maybe the following weekend, but that’s a long way off and uncertain.
