Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's see what's brewing at Ansteys for the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, the start is quiet and bumpy. Sunday and Monday have little to no surfable waves, with cross-shore breezes messing up what's there. Monday afternoon gives a cleaner look with a cross-off wind, but it's only knee-high and weak.
Tuesday the 7th of July bumps up to a 1.3m NE windswell, but it's short period at 7 seconds, so it'll be weak and crumbly. The afternoon cleans up with a cross-off breeze, making it the best bet of the early days.
Then we hit a lull from Wednesday the 8th through Thursday the 10th. Thursday afternoon brings a solid 1.4m S groundswell with a 13-second period (moderate energy at 751), but the wind is cross-on and choppy. Friday the 10th of July sees a 2.0m to 2.1m S swell with a very long 15-second period (strong energy at 1916–2021). That's expert-level size, but the wind is cross-on with rain – it'll be lumpy and messy. More of a kite-surf setup than a clean paddle.
After that, the wind stays cross or onshore from the north-east, and the swell drops off. The weekend of the 11th and 12th is a washout with fresh breezes and choppy weak waves.
Now, hang tight because the real gem is on the afternoon of Saturday the 18th of July. We get a clean 0.9m S groundswell with a very long 17-second period (moderate energy at 676). But the headline is the wind: glassy, dead calm. That's the kind of session where the ocean turns to glass. The long period will make it a bit straight for beach breaks, so points or reefs will work better. For a small, perfect wave, that's your pick.
Sunday the 19th of July morning holds onto 1.3m S swell with 14-second period and light cross-on wind – nice shape, but not as perfect as the glassy Saturday arvo.
So, bottom line: the first week is mostly flat and windy. The one to wait for is the glassy Saturday afternoon on the 18th of July. Small, clean, and worth the wait. Everything else is a pass.
Rusty out.
