Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ansteys over the next 16 days.
Alright, Rusty here again, switching to feet and miles for the crew that thinks that way.
Kicking off this afternoon, Tuesday, you’ve got a 4ft NE windswell with a short 7-second period, so it’s a bit bumpy. Wind's cross-off from the NNE at 9 mph, so it’ll look clean on the surface. Water temp’s 72°F, right where it should be for the season. Combined energy’s moderate at 283.
Wednesday and Thursday are flat and poor, not worth the drive.
Now, Friday morning, July 10th – that’s the big one. A solid 7ft S groundswell with a very long 16-second period. That’s real energy (2218) and the wind is almost glassy out of the NE at just 3 mph. This is going to be a clean, powerful session. Over 6ft is expert territory, though – leave the foam boards at home. That long period S swell at an exposed beach can be a bit straight-up, so look for the wedge.
Friday afternoon hangs in with similar size, but a southerly breeze messes with the surface.
Saturday sees the swell drop to about 5ft (888 energy) with cross-on winds. Still fun, but not a standout.
Then Monday morning, July 13th – another cracker: 8ft of E swell, shorter period at 8 seconds, but the energy is strong (1788). The wind is light cross-off from the NNE at 3 mph – clean, fast waves. That’s expert size again, so only for the experienced.
After that, it’s a slow decline through the rest of July. From the 18th onward, the wind starts howling, and the surf gets messy and lumpy. Not worth paddling out unless you want a fight with the breeze.
Your top two days for this stretch are Friday, July 10th for the long-period south groundswell with glassy conditions, and Monday, July 13th for the big east swell with clean offshores. Mark ‘em down.
Ansteys can be hit-or-miss, so when it fires, you go.
Rusty.
