The Lowdown
Alright, let’s get straight into it. This is a tricky one, folks. Over the next 16 days, El Huerto is not going to be handing out any favours. There’s a long, dry stretch with barely a whisper of a wave, so you’ll need to be patient. The first real chance to get wet doesn't show up until Sunday morning, 27 July, and even then it’s modest.
Let’s break it down. Starting off, we've got a few days of nothing really worth paddling out for. The swell is tiny, the energy is very weak (17-21), and the wind is either glassy on a flat sea or cross-onshore. It’s a dead period. That runs right through the end of the week.
Then, on Monday morning, 21 July, there’s a small pulse of 4ft swell from the north, period only 6 seconds. That’s short-period, wind-swell stuff. The combined energy is weak (130) and the call is "surfable but very ordinary." The wind is glassy though, which is a plus, but it’s not enough to get excited about.
We then have another gap of poor conditions until the morning of Monday, 27 July. Here, we get a 2ft swell from the NNW with a period of 11 seconds. That’s a proper long-period groundswell, but it’s tiny. The combined energy picks up a bit (103), and the wind is glassy. It’s surfable, but you’ll be fighting for little peaks on a point break that wants a bit more size.
The next standout is the morning of Wednesday, 30 July. The swell is 4ft from the NW, period a solid 10 seconds, and the combined energy is moderate (354). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the ENE, making for clean conditions. This is the best window in the first week and a half, and it’s the first time the forecast says "expect good surf conditions." It’s still not huge, but it’s clean and lined up for a point break shape.
Now, the real highlight of the whole outlook is Saturday morning, 1 August. Swell bumps up to 5ft from the NW, still a 10-second period, and the combined energy jumps to a strong 533. The wind is light and cross-offshore from the ENE, keeping it clean. The forecast says "expect very good surf conditions." This is the one to circle on your calendar. It’s a proper groundswell, and for a point break like El Huerto, that’s a beautiful thing. Just be aware that with a 5ft swell, it might be pushing the limits for beginners. Crowds are likely here, but for a morning like that, it’ll be worth it.
Monday morning, 3 August, offers a final chance with 4ft NW swell, 9-second period, and clean cross-offshore wind. The energy is moderate (254) and the call is "expect good surf conditions." A solid session to end the run.
Water temperature? It’s about average for the time of year, nothing unusual to report.
So, to sum it up for the point: the first week and a half is mostly a write-off. The best on offer is the Saturday morning, 1 August, with the Wednesday morning, 30 July, as a strong runner-up. Don’t bother with the rest unless you’re desperate for a glassy knee-high paddle.
