The Lowdown
Right then, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for El Brusco over the next couple of weeks. I’ll be honest with you, it’s a bit of a slow burn to start, with a whole heap of flat, choppy, or just plain messy days before we see any real action.
We’re kicking off on Friday the 21st of August with a 5ft NW swell and a cross-on wind. The water’s a balmy 74°, which is feeling a lot warmer than usual for this time of year. But don’t get too excited, it’s poor out there. The combined swell energy is sitting at 437 (moderate), but with that onshore wind, you’ll be battling chop. That theme sticks around for a good long while. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are a write-off with tiny waves and messy winds. We even get a morning of glassy conditions on Monday the 24th, but the swell is a pathetic 2ft. It’s a tough stretch until Thursday the 27th.
Now, Thursday the 27th of August is where things start to get interesting, but only for the brave. By the afternoon, the swell jumps to 8ft from the NW, with a combined energy of 976 (strong!). That’s a big, powerful wave, and with that cross-shore wind, it’s going to be a raw, challenging day. Only for the experienced crew. It’s still a bit raw, though, and only scores as “marginal.”
The real standout, the one you want to circle on your calendar, is Friday the 28th of August morning. We get a solid 5ft NW groundswell, a period of 9 seconds, and glassy conditions. That’s your window. The combined swell energy is a healthy 427 (moderate) and the wind is dead calm. It’s going to be clean, with proper shape on offer. This is the best looking session of the entire run. It’s an advanced break, and with the word out, you can expect some company.
Things stay surfable through the end of the month, with waist-high waves and varying winds, but nothing quite hits that peak again until we look way out. Thursday the 3rd of September morning looks promising. We’ve got a 7ft NW swell, glassy conditions, and a building energy of 477 (moderate). That’s a fair bit of water moving, so it’ll be powerful. Another one for the advanced surfers.
Friday the 4th of September keeps the good vibes going with clean, glassy conditions and a dropping 5ft NW swell. It’ll be a more manageable day than the day before.
So, to sum it up: don’t bother paddling out until Thursday the 27th unless you like frustration. The absolute pick of the bunch is the morning of Friday the 28th of August. Thursday the 3rd of September is another solid bet further out, but as always with a two-week forecast, keep an eye on it as we get closer.
