The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s happening at El Brusco. Truth is, for the first week and a half, it’s a tough stretch. The surf is small and the wind is a persistent problem. We’ve got a long dry spell from Saturday the 18th of July all the way through to the end of the month. The wind is mostly cross-onshore, and the swell is weak and short-period. You’ll see a bump in combined energy around Monday the 20th, hitting 265 (moderate), but it’s paired with a 5.2ft NNE swell and choppy onshore winds, so it’s not going to be any good. The water is a wild 73.9° – that’s 5.6° warmer than normal for this time of year, which is very unusual.
The real glimmer of hope, the only true standout, arrives on Friday the 31st of July. The morning starts with light rain and glassy conditions. The wind is almost nothing, swinging through to glassy, and the swell picks up to 4.6ft from the NNW with a period of 10 seconds, and the combined energy is a solid 402 (strong). By the afternoon, it gets even better: 5.2ft, same direction, still glassy, and the energy jumps to 572 (strong). This is the best on offer. The swell direction is straight out of the NNW, which is exactly what El Brusco likes for an offshore wind. The water will still be unnaturally warm for the time of year.
Saturday the 1st of August morning is also worth a look. The wind shifts to a light cross-offshore from the southwest, the swell holds at 4.6ft from the NNW with a long 11-second period, and the energy is 478 (strong). The waves will be clean and well-shaped, but the afternoon goes south again with onshore wind. El Brusco is an advanced spot, and it’s fairly consistent, but crowds are often an issue here, so keep that in mind.
After that, Sunday the 2nd of August drops back into mediocrity with cross-onshore winds and dropping energy. So, the real window is that Friday the 31st of July and maybe Saturday morning the 1st of August. That’s your shot.
Short Range ForecastMostly dry. Warm (max 24°C on Sun afternoon, min 19°C on Sat night). Wind will be generally light. | Days 4-6 Weather SummaryMostly dry. Warm (max 25°C on Thu afternoon, min 20°C on Tue morning). Wind will be generally light. | ||||||||||||||||||||
