The Lowdown
Alright, let me tell you how it’s looking for El Brusco. Right off the bat, I gotta be honest with you—it's a quiet start. Through the early part of this week, we’ve got tiny, weak waves and poor conditions. Not much to get excited about. There’s a stretch of nothing from Monday morning right through to Thursday afternoon—just small, messy surf that’s not worth paddling out for.
Now, Thursday afternoon on the 20th of August, things start to perk up a little. We get a bump in swell, around 5ft from the NNW with a solid period of 12 seconds, giving us a moderate 509 combined energy. The wind is light cross-onshore though, so it’s still a bit messy. Not the best, but you can see the ocean waking up.
Then Friday the 21st of August—that’s where it’s at. Glassy conditions all day, wind is dead calm, and we’ve got a clean 5ft swell from the NW, period at 10 seconds. The wave energy is strong, clocking in at 450. This is clean, well-shaped stuff—perfect for an advanced surfer like this break is built for. Wind is off, the swell is solid, and it’s the best window in the whole outlook. If you can get out Friday, that’s the session to chase. Crowds are likely here, but on a day like that, you’ll put up with it.
After that, it drops off again. Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd are back to small and choppy. The swell fades quickly with onshore winds ruining the shape. We go through a dry spell right until the end of the month.
Now, fast forward to Sunday the 30th of August—another standout morning. We’ve got a glassy start with light easterly wind, and a solid 5ft NW swell rolling in, period 10 seconds, and energy hitting 479. It’s clean, good size, and pushing into expert territory—definitely not for beginners. For the experienced crew, this is the other real highlight. But keep an eye on the afternoon—the wind swings and the rain moves in, so get it early.
After that, into the first couple days of September, the wind builds and the conditions get choppy and messy again. Not worth planning around.
So to wrap it up: the real pick of the bunch is Friday the 21st of August, with glassy clean lines and a strong swell—best of the whole outlook. The second best is the morning of Sunday the 30th of August, if you can handle the size and get out before the wind turns. Everything else is either too small, too windy, or just plain poor.
