The Lowdown
Alright, grab a coffee, because this 16-day window is a weird one for El Brusco. The water is sitting at 24° which is much warmer than usual for this time of year—2° warmer, to be precise. That’s a proper anomaly, feels like summer has overstayed its welcome.
Right now, and for the next several days, it’s a flat spell. Swell is tiny, energy is weak (between 10 and 58), and even when there’s a pulse, the conditions are poor. Don’t bother paddling out from Sunday the 23rd through to Wednesday the 27th. There’s just no real surf on offer. It’s a gap of almost five days of nothing worth mentioning.
Thursday morning the 27th finally sees a bump of 1.3m NW swell, with period around 8 seconds, and 211 combined energy—moderate power. The wind goes glassy from the SSE, so it’ll be clean. But it’s not a standout. Just surfable, ordinary waves. After that, the wind shifts and it gets messy again.
Now, Friday morning the 28th is the standout of the entire outlook. A solid 3.0m of NW groundswell rolls in with a 12-second period, and the energy is strong—2620. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the SSW, which should keep the faces clean. This one is for experienced surfers only, no doubt. Too big for beginners. It’s a proper session, but only the morning window works—by afternoon, the wind swings cross-onshore and it’s blown out.
Saturday morning the 29th is still solid: 1.8m NW swell, period 10 seconds, 589 energy, glassy with NNW wind. Good surf conditions, but it gets messy again by the afternoon.
Sunday the 30th morning sees 1.4m from the NNW, period 9 seconds, 320 energy, glassy NE breeze. That’s a clean, smaller option if Friday was too heavy for you. After that, the surf fades through the start of September, going back to tiny, weak 0.3m to 0.9m waves for days. Another long gap from the 31st through to the 5th.
Then we get a pulse on the 6th and 7th of September. Sunday the 6th morning: 1.6m NW swell, 11-second period, 755 energy, cross-shore wind. Marginal conditions, but waves are there. Monday the 7th morning: 2.2m from the NNW, 12-second period, 1572 energy, onshore wind from the NNW—so it’s big but choppy, expert only and not ideal.
Bottom line: Friday the 28th morning is your best bet all around. The rest is a lot of waiting, with a few promising but not perfect pulses later on.
