The Lowdown
Alright, this is Rusty, and I’ve got the lowdown on El Brusco for the next 16 days. Grab a coffee, this one's a bit of a slow burn.
To be honest, right off the bat, the surf scene here is pretty flat. The water’s sitting at a very unusual 73°F, which is 6°F warmer than normal for this time of year – that’s a real standout, mate. But the waves? Not so much. For the first week, we’re looking at tiny, weak swell – like 1ft to 2ft stuff with a rubbish period of 4 to 6 seconds and combined energy barely cracking 40 (15-40). It’s mostly a no-go, with poor surf conditions and scores of zero. There’s a gap of several days here with no real recommendations.
Things start to nudge up around Monday, July 20th, when the swell finally gets a pulse. By Tuesday afternoon, July 21st, we’re seeing 6ft from the NE with a 7-second period, and the combined energy jumps to 293 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-on, so it’ll be a bit bumpy, but it’s the first sign of life. The file calls it "marginal," and I’d agree – it’s a glimmer, not a goldmine.
Now, the real standout is further out. Friday, July 24th, the swell direction swings to the NW, and that's when things get interesting. The period jumps to 14 seconds (a proper groundswell) with a combined energy of 300 (moderate). The wind is light and cross-on, keeping it reasonably clean. Then Saturday morning, July 25th is the pick of the whole forecast. We’re looking at 7ft of NW swell with an 11-second period, and the combined energy hits a solid 945 (strong). The wind is a gentle 15 km/h from the WNW, which is cross-shore and will keep the surface tidy. This is a big, powerful swell that’s going to be a freight train. For a spot like this, that long period means it’ll have plenty of push, but it might be a bit too much for beginners. It’s definitely an expert-only kind of day. The crowds are likely to be an issue too, as this spot is "often" busy.
Overall, the best bet is that Saturday morning, July 25th. The swell size is up, the direction is right for the break (NW is the optimum), and the wind is clean. It’s a long-range call, so keep an eye on it, but it’s the only real standout in the whole 16 days.
