Table - best surf conditions forecast for Mundaka over the next 16 days.
Right, folks. Rusty here. Let’s be straight with you: the next couple of weeks are looking pretty damn flat for Mundaka. This is a river mouth that lives on proper NW groundswell, and right now, the ocean just isn’t delivering. You’ll be waiting a long time before anything even remotely rideable shows up.
The forecast starts with nothing but tiny, weak lumps. From Thursday the 9th right through the weekend, we’re looking at swell heights barely cracking 3 ft, with combined wave energy clinging to weak two-digit numbers (79 to 113). The periods are short, mostly 9 to 12 seconds, and the wind is a mess of cross-onshore and onshore breezes. It’s just poor surf, day after day. There’s a gap of nearly a week with absolutely no recommendations.
We get a few glassy mornings on the 14th and 15th, but the swell is a joke – 1.0 ft and 0.7 ft with energy readings of 19 and 12. Sure, the water’s dead flat and clean, but you’d be paddling for ripples. For a wave this fickle, that’s a hard pass.
The first real pulse of any note doesn’t show up until Monday the 21st. The morning sees a 3 ft NW swell, with a period of 6 seconds and energy hitting 85. It’s still small and weak, but the wind is a light cross-shore from the west, which could clean up the lefts a little. You’d need a log and a lot of patience. By Tuesday afternoon the 22nd, the swell nudges up to 4 ft from the NNW, and the energy climbs to 124. That’s still a very moderate, crumbly wave, and the wind swings fresh cross-onshore from the WNW, chopping it up. Not the Mundaka we dream about.
The standout, if you can call it that, is the morning of the 21st. It’s the only window where the wind is half-decent and the swell is the biggest we’ll see. But at 3 ft from the NW with a short period, it’s a beginner-friendly ankle-snapper at best. The break is rated expert, but honestly, it’s not going to challenge anyone.
Overall, this is a blank run. The water temp is about average for the time of year, but you won’t be in it long enough to care. Keep an eye on the charts, but for now, Mundaka is a no-go.
