The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s look at what’s going on at Guibeleco for the next couple of weeks.

Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you—this is a tough one. Guibeleco is a point that needs a specific swell, and over the next 16 days, the stars just don’t line up. The water is sitting at 74°, which is *much warmer* than usual for this time of year—a proper anomaly of 4° warmer than the long-term average.

We’re starting on Thursday, 30th July, and the best we’re looking at is tiny, weak swell. The energy is barely registering (73), and it’s coming from the NW with a short, wobbly period of 9 seconds. That, combined with a cross-onshore wind, is just a recipe for poor, chop. It stays like this for days on end. Friday morning, the 31st, offers a brief moment of glassy conditions, but the swell is a pathetic 2 ft and the energy is flat (34). There’s nothing to ride.

We go through the whole first week of August with the same story: tiny waves (0.7 ft to 2 ft), short periods, and mostly onshore or cross-shore winds. The energy never gets above 73. The 4th of August has a morning of glass, but again, the swell is only 1.0 ft with a so-so 9-second period. It’s a flat spell.

The second week is more of the same. For the 10th of August, the morning is glassy again, but the swell is a measly 0.3 ft. The best energy we see across the whole 16 days is on the 11th of August, with a combined energy of 68, and a 2 ft swell from the NW. The wind is cross-shore, which is okay, but it’s still tiny. By the 12th, we get a 3 ft swell from the NNW, but the wind is ramping up to a moderate cross-onshore, making it messy.

The 13th and 14th don’t offer any salvation. The swell direction shifts to NNW, but it’s too small and the wind is never right. The 14th of August has a morning of clean cross-offshore wind, but the swell is only 2 ft.

There is literally no standout session here. The entire 16-day window is a write-off for a proper paddle. The swell is too small, the energy is weak, and the wind is rarely on our side. Occasionally, the conditions are glassy, but there’s nothing to surf. If you’re desperate for a float, the glassy mornings with 1.0 ft to 2 ft might be a fun paddle, but don’t expect a wave.

Guibeleco is a fairly consistent spot, so this blank run is a bit of a bummer, but it happens. Keep an eye on it, because forecasts change.

Rusty.
