Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ at Los Locos over the next couple of weeks. Straight up, it’s a bit of a slow burn. We’ve got a small run of surfable days early on, then a real flat spell, before some more energy shows up in the second week.
Right off the bat, the water’s sitting at a balmy 71°, which is a solid 5° warmer than usual for this time of year – that’s a real treat, you won’t be needing the thick rubber.
The first few days, Saturday the 4th through Monday the 6th, have some tiny swell in the water. We’re talking small NW swells, mostly around 2ft to 3ft, with combined energy readings between 44 and 136 – so only weak to moderate energy in the water. The wind is light and generally cross-offshore, keeping the surface clean. It’s surfable, but honestly, it’s pretty ordinary. You’ll get a wave, but nothing to write home about. Sunday morning the 5th has a period of 11 seconds on that 2ft NW swell, giving it a bit of groundswell feel, but it’s still small.
Then we hit a wall. From Tuesday the 7th all the way through to Friday the 10th, it’s basically flat or near-flat with poor conditions and onshore winds. Tuesday the 7th and Wednesday the 8th are a write-off – tiny waves and a cross-onshore breeze making a mess of things. Thursday the 9th and Friday the 10th mornings have glassy conditions, but the swell is barely a ripple at 1ft, so there’s just nothing to ride. That’s a good solid four-day gap with nothing on offer.
The weekend of the 12th and 13th brings a bit of a pulse. Sunday the 12th sees a bump in size to 3ft from the NW, with combined energy jumping to 175 – that’s the strongest energy we see in the whole outlook period. The period is a short 8 seconds though, so it’s a bit of a local windswell feel. The wind is cross-offshore and light, keeping things clean on the Sunday afternoon. Monday the 13th holds similar size at 3ft with the swell shifting a touch to the NNW, again with a short period. The morning has some cross-chop, but the afternoon cleans up nicely with a cross-offshore breeze. This Sunday and Monday window is the best on offer – the swell is still small, but it’s the most energy we get.
After that, things trickle off again. Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th have some clean conditions with offshore winds, but the swell drops. Tuesday afternoon has a nice glassy 2ft wave with a 10-second period and a cross-offshore breeze. Wednesday has a short-period 3ft NW swell with clean conditions in the morning and moderate offshore wind in the afternoon – combined energy is around 101-111, so still only moderate.
Thursday the 16th morning is glassy on a small 2ft swell, but then we’re back into patchy, poor conditions through the final weekend. The last day that looks surfable is Sunday the 19th with a tiny 1ft NW swell and light offshore wind.
So, the standout window is that Sunday the 12th through Monday the 13th. It’s not pumping by any stretch, but it’s the biggest and cleanest we’re gonna see. For the rest of the time, you’re scratching for little runners. Los Locos is a consistent spot, but even consistent spots have quiet periods. Keep an eye on the forecast – these things can change.
Rusty.
