The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. We’ve got a 16-day window for Los Locos, and it’s a bit of a slow burner. The first few days are a write-off, but there’s a real good run of clean swell coming in the second week. Let’s get into it.
Right now, there’s nothing doing. The first couple of days are flat with poor surf conditions, so don’t bother paddling out. You’re looking at a gap of about 5 days before anything worth getting wet for shows up.
Monday the 20th is where it starts to kick off. The morning is still marginal with a 5ft north swell, but the wind is cross-on, so it’s a bit messy. The real action starts Monday afternoon. The wind swings northeast offshore, clean as a whistle, pushing a 5ft swell from the north-northeast. The combined energy is moderate (274), and the waves are going to be good. It’s a consistent spot, so expect plenty of rides, but it’s also an exposed break, so it’ll handle that size.
Tuesday the 21st is a similar story. The morning is glassy with a 4ft north swell, but the energy is weak (130). The afternoon cranks back up with a 5ft north-northeast swell and a solid 12 mph offshore wind. The energy is moderate (263) and the surf is good. This is a solid run of clean, offshore waves.
The standout of the whole forecast? Saturday the 1st of August. No question. The morning starts with a 5ft northwest swell at 10 seconds, and the wind is light offshore from the east-northeast. The energy is strong (533). The afternoon gets even better – 6ft from the northwest, still offshore at 12 mph, and the energy jumps to a very strong (622). This is the best on offer. Clean, consistent, and that northwest swell is right in the optimum direction for this break. With the water temperature about average for the time of year, it’s a perfect setup for a long session.
The runs before and after that are solid, too. Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th of July both have 4ft northwest swells with clean offshore winds and moderate to strong energy (320-377). And Sunday the 2nd of August still has a good 5ft northwest swell, but the wind is blowing a bit harder at 19 mph, making it a bit more for the experienced crew.
That’s the story. Get out there for that Saturday the 1st of August session. It’s gonna be a good one.
Rusty.
