The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what Los Locos is cooking up for us.
The next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag. We’ve got a few clean windows, but nothing that’s going to blow your mind for a long stretch. The water is sitting at a nice 73°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you can leave the thick rubber at home.
The first real standout is on Thursday, August 20th. The morning starts a bit messy with rain showers and a cross-onshore wind, but the afternoon is where it’s at. We’re looking at a clean 4ft swell from the NW with a period of 10 seconds, and a light cross-offshore breeze from the north at 9 mph. The wave energy is moderate (347), so it’s got some push. This is your best bet for a fun, clean session.
Then, on Saturday, August 22nd, we get another nice one. The morning is still a little iffy, but the afternoon turns glassy with a light SSW breeze at 3 mph. The swell drops to 4ft from the NW, still with a 9 second period, and the energy is moderate (249). It’ll be super clean and not too crowded.
Sunday, August 30th, is a late call but worth a mention. The afternoon brings clear skies and a solid offshore breeze from the ENE at 16 mph. The swell is small at 1ft from the WNW, but the wind will make it glassy and clean. It’s a long way out, so keep an eye on it.
Honestly, the pick of the whole period is that Thursday afternoon, August 20th. It’s got the best combo of size, clean conditions, and decent energy. The Saturday (August 22nd) afternoon is a close second for a glassy, smaller-wave session.
There is a big pulse of swell around Thursday, August 27th, with a 8ft NW swell, but the wind is howling onshore at 16 mph, making it a choppy mess. That’s one for the kite surfers, not for us paddle guys.
So, to sum it up: get out on the 20th. That’s your best shot.
Rusty.
