Table - best surf conditions forecast for Los Locos over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what we've got on the cards for the next couple of weeks. It's a slow start, but there's a bit of promise if you're patient.
The first few days are going to be pretty average for Los Locos. The good news is it picks up later, and I can see one or two sessions that are well worth marking on the calendar.
Right now, on Saturday the 11th, things are on the small side. We've got a clean, offshore wind from the ENE, but the swell is only 2ft out of the northwest with a moderate period of 11 seconds. The water is sitting at 69°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so a spring suit might be enough. The combined swell energy is weak, only 71. It's surfable, but the conditions are very ordinary.
Sunday morning the 12th is glassy – dead calm – but still just that 2ft of NW swell. The energy drops to 56. It would be clean, but tiny. That afternoon turns to junk with a cross-onshore wind and a risk of thunderstorms.
We get a little bump Monday morning the 13th with a clean 3ft from the NW, but the period is short at 7 seconds. The energy picks up to 94. It’s still in the "very ordinary" camp. From Monday afternoon through to Saturday the 19th morning, it’s mostly a write-off. There's a long gap of several days with tiny, choppy, or poor conditions, with nothing really worth paddling out for. The swell energy barely gets into double figures.
Now, here's the first real standout. Sunday the 19th morning – the wind goes glassy again, and the swell is building. By Sunday afternoon, we hit the magic. The swell jumps to 6ft from the NW, with a 7-second period, and a moderate offshore wind from the NNE. The combined energy jumps to 271, a moderate level, and the forecast is for good surf conditions. This is a solid beginner-friendly wave, clean and fun. The spot is consistent, so you can bank on a few sets. Crowds are often here, so expect some company.
We get a bit of a chop for Monday the 20th, with some clean but stronger winds.
The next big one is still a way off, and we need to keep an eye on it. Saturday the 25th sees a major spike in energy, with a 7ft NW swell, but the winds are messy – cross-onshore in the morning and cross-shore in the afternoon. The period improves to 10 seconds. The energy is massive at 1153 in the morning and 1371 in the afternoon, but the rating only calls it marginal due to the wind and tide. This one is for experienced surfers only, as 7ft is getting big. The long 10-second period will hold up better than a short-period swell, but the onshore winds will chop it up.
Sunday the 26th is the session to target. The swell drops a touch to a clean 4-5ft, still from the NW with that nice 10-second period. The wind turns cross-offshore from the ENE, and later from the NNE, keeping it clean. The combined energy is strong at 449 and 353. It’s the best combination of size, cleanliness, and consistency in the whole forecast. The crowds will be there for sure, but with conditions this clean, it'll be worth the fight.
So there you have it. A slow burn for a week, then a classic autumn-style NW swell for the 19th, followed by a proper pulse for the 25th and 26th. The 26th is your best bet for clean, fun waves all day.
Stay stoked,
Rusty
