The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for El Sardinero - Segunda. Bit of a slow start, but we’ve got some action building.
First thing you’ll notice is a big ol’ gap. From now until the morning of Thursday the 26th of August, it’s pretty much a write-off. The forecast is stuffed with poor surf conditions, flat spells, and onshore junk. A few small windows of clean conditions here and there, but nothing worth paddling out for. The water’s sitting at a touch warmer than normal, about 73°, so that’s a nice little bonus for when it does come alive.
The first real sign of life hits on the morning of Thursday the 26th. A moderate offshore breeze from the WSW is blowing clean, and we’ve got a 3ft NW swell rolling in with a period of 10 seconds. The combined energy is moderate (173), and while it’s not going to blow your mind, it’s surfable. But the standout of the whole window is the afternoon of that same day. Wind goes glassy, the swell jumps to 6ft from the NW, short period at 7 seconds, but the energy ramps right up (520). That glassy surface is going to make for some seriously fun, clean wedges on the rocks. That’s the pick of the week for me.
The 27th keeps the momentum going. A light morning cross-off with a 5ft NW swell (306) makes for clean conditions. The afternoon gets a bit bigger at 8ft from the NW, but the period is 9 seconds and the energy is strong (1123). That’s getting into the expert zone, especially with a cross-shore wind. It’ll be big and powerful, so only for the experienced crew.
The 28th is another solid day. Morning glass and a 6ft NW swell (513) – that’s a beautiful combo. The afternoon picks up a moderate offshore wind from the W with a 5ft NW swell (396). Clean, offshore, and punchy. The 29th morning is similar with a 5ft NW swell and light offshore winds (335). Good session on the cards.
After that, things start to fade. A few days of small or flat conditions, then a little blip on the 31st with a 4ft NW swell (210) and clean cross-off wind, but it’s ordinary. The next real highlight is the morning of the 1st of September. A solid 6ft NW groundswell with a long 11-second period and a light offshore WSW wind (664). That’s got some proper push and shape, and it’ll be clean. The energy is strong, making it a quality session for the more advanced surfer.
The 2nd of September morning offers a smaller, cleaner option with 5ft NW swell (300) and a gentle offshore. After that, it’s back to the small stuff and poor conditions through the rest of the forecast. The long-range stuff on the 1st is promising, but you know how that goes – it’s a bit of a gamble that far out.
So, for the best on offer: Thursday 26th afternoon is the true standout – glassy conditions and a fun 6ft swell. Keep an eye on Thursday 27th afternoon if you’re an expert looking for a big, powerful wave. And if you’re holding out for the long-range, the morning of the 1st of September is the one to circle. The rest is just filler.
Stay stoked.
Rusty.
