The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s be honest from the get-go, this 16-day stretch for El Sardinero - Segunda is looking pretty grim. We’ve got a long, dry spell of flatness and tiny, junk surf ahead. The only real glimmer of hope is tucked away at the very end.
Right now, through the start of the period, it’s all about tiny, weak swells. Saturday morning, the 18th of July, we’ve got a glassy 0.3 ft wave from the NW with a period of 8 seconds and next to no energy (3). It’s basically a lake. The wind is light and glassy, which is a tease more than anything. This pattern of tiny, poor surf conditions continues right through the week. Sunday the 19th offers a slightly bigger 1.0 ft NW swell in the morning with glassy conditions, but the energy is still only 12. It’s a paddle at best.
We then hit a long, flat spell. From the afternoon of the 26th of July all the way through to the end of the month, there’s zero swell on the charts. The combined energy is a flat 0. The wind is clean at times, but with no waves, it’s a total washout. This is a real bummer of a gap.
Now, the one and only chance worth mentioning comes on Sunday morning, the 26th of July. We’ve got a pulse of swell from the NNW at 4 ft. The period is a short 6 seconds, so it’s not going to have much shape or power, but the combined energy jumps to 84 – still weak, but it’s the only action we’re going to see. The wind is offshore from the West at 16 mph, which will keep the surface clean. This is a short-period, chopped-up kind of swell, so it’s best for the experienced crew who can handle a bit of a mess. It’s not for beginners given the size and the short, punchy period.
The very last day, Sunday the 2nd of August, shows a whisper of a 0.3 ft NW groundswell with a period of 13 seconds and glassy conditions. The energy is only 6, so it’s more of a hopeful sign than a genuine surf session. The long period means it’ll be very slow and fickle on this beach-and-rocks setup.
Overall, the only standout is the Sunday the 26th of July morning session. It’s not perfect, but it’s the only window with a real wave and clean offshore wind. Everything else is a write-off. Don’t hold your breath.
Rusty.
