Table - best surf conditions forecast for Playa de Laga over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the table for Playa de Laga.
Overall, this 16-day stretch looks pretty quiet for most of it, with a few promising windows popping up later. We’ve got a long gap with very little going on, so patience is the name of the game. The water is sitting at a balmy 75°, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – you won’t need a thick suit, that’s for sure.
The first real action we see is on Saturday morning, July 11th. We’ve got a tiny 1ft NW swell with a long 12-second period, but it’s clean with light E winds. The combined energy is weak at 82, so it’s small and gentle. Perfect for a beginner session, but not much else. The session is quickly followed by a blow-out in the afternoon, so make the most of the morning.
Sunday the 12th is similar – a small 2ft NW swell in the morning with clean conditions, but the energy is even weaker at 48. The afternoon turns choppy with onshore wind, so it’s a write-off.
Then, we hit a dry spell. From Monday afternoon, July 13th, right through to Thursday, July 23rd, the surf is tiny, inconsistent, and mostly blown out or unsurfable. There’s a brief moment on Monday morning, July 13th, with a glassy 4ft NW swell (period 7 seconds, energy 105), but it’s short-period and not much push. You’d be scratching for waves. This gap lasts well over a week.
The standout window finally arrives on Thursday, July 24th. Friday morning, July 24th, is the pick of the forecast. We’ve got a clean 5ft NW swell with a solid 8-second period under glassy WSW winds. The energy is strong at 313, and conditions are described as “expect good surf conditions.” The swell direction lines up with the optimum NW. This is the one to circle on the calendar. It’s not too big, but it’s got enough grunt to be fun for most abilities. The afternoon gets ruined by strong winds, so the early morning session is your only shot.
Saturday, July 25th, and the following days drop back to messy, choppy conditions, though Sunday morning, July 26th, shows another pulse of 6ft NW swell with a longer 10-second period and light wind, but it’s been rated as marginal, likely due to the cross-onshore direction spoiling the shape.
So, to wrap it up: the first week is mostly a tease with small, clean windows for beginners. The main event is Friday morning, July 24th, at Playa de Laga. That’s the one to wake up early for. After that, it gets messy again.
Rusty.
