The Lowdown

Alright, Rusty here again. Let's talk about Playa de Ogeia in the next 16 days, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it – it's a long, dry stretch with very little to get excited about.

The water is feeling like a warm bath at 76°, which is about 5° above the usual for this time of year. That's the only notable thing for a while.

The first week and a half is a total write-off. From Friday the 7th, we're looking at tiny, weak swell from 1 to 2ft, with very short periods. The wave energy is weak, hanging out between 17 and 107. The wind is a constant problem, mostly cross-onshore, ruining any chance of a clean wave. There are a few glassy mornings, like Saturday the 8th and Monday the 10th, but the swell just isn't there. It's a waiting game.

This continues through the second week. We get a glassy spell on the morning of the 16th with a tiny 3ft swell, but it's short period and weak. The wind stays messy, and the swell stays tiny. By Thursday the 20th, the wind hits 19 mph, making it choppy and lumpy – honestly, that's more of a kite-surfing setup than a paddle session.

Finally, way out on the 21st of August, we get a glimmer. The Friday morning shows a jump to 6ft from the NW, with a 9-second period. The energy jumps to a strong 454. But it's two weeks out, so take it with a grain of salt. The wind is light cross-onshore, so it might be a bit bumpy. The following Saturday morning, the 22nd, cleans right up with glassy conditions and a still solid 4ft NW swell, energy at 294. This is your only real standout in the whole 16-day window. This is an advanced reef break, and it's inconsistent, so don't expect a non-stop session. If that Saturday morning holds, that's your window.

Rusty.
