Table - best surf conditions forecast for Ajo over the next 16 days.
The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.
The next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag for Ajo. We're looking at a run that has some life in it, but you're gonna have to pick your moments. The first few days are pretty much a write-off. We’ve got a lot of weak, short-period swell and cross-shore winds messing things up. It’s not until the 22nd that things start to look interesting, so maybe plan for a lay-in for the first few days.
Now, looking at the bigger picture, we see a pulse of moderate energy building into the 20th and 21st, but the winds are just gonna tear it to bits. It’s not until the 22nd that the stars align. That Saturday morning, the 22nd, is our first real chance. We’ve got a 3.6ft swell from the NW with a 9-second period, and the wind is dead glassy. It’s still a bit weak, with the combined energy only hitting 206, but those clean conditions are gonna make it feel a whole lot better than the numbers suggest. It’s a classic dawn-patrol call.
After that, things go a bit flat again before a more solid push of energy arrives for the 27th and 28th. That Thursday the 27th sees a jump in energy to 230, but the wind is howling from the W at 12 mph, cross-shore and choppy, so it’s a miss. But then Friday the 28th morning is an interesting one. The swell drops a touch to 3.2ft, but the wind goes light and offshore from the E, and it’s clean. Combined energy sits at 188, which is still moderate, but the conditions will be way better. That’s another good window for a surf.
As we slide into the second week, the swell stays around the 3.2ft mark with that NW direction. The mornings of the 29th and the 1st of September look like they might have some clean windows with light winds and glassy conditions. It’s still not huge, but it’ll be rideable and clean.
Overall, the standout looks like the morning of the 22nd. That glassy morning with that chest-high NW swell is going to be the cleanest, most user-friendly surf on offer.
