Table - best surf conditions forecast for Laredo over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's cookin' for our little slice of the coast.
Right off the bat, I gotta be straight with you – it's a tough stretch ahead. We're looking at a long, dry spell with basically no surf worth paddling out for. From now, Saturday the 11th of July, all the way through to the 22nd of July, it's a whole lot of nothing. The swell is tiny, the energy is weak – we're talking combined swell energy values down in the double digits and low triple digits for the most part, barely a ripple. It’s one of those classic summer flat spells, and for a spot like Laredo, which is already sheltered from most swell, that means it's pretty much a glass-off with no waves. The winds are light, and we do see some clean conditions with offshore breezes, especially around the 12th and 13th, but there's just no power behind it. It’s frustrating, I know.
The one glimmer in this entire forecast is a little window that shows up around the 22nd of July. Wednesday morning the 22nd still looks pretty average, with cross-onshore wind and a weak 4ft swell from the north. But by Wednesday afternoon, things take a slight turn for the better. The swell drops to a cleaner 3ft from the northwest, the wind swings around to a cross-offshore breeze from the NNW, and the combined energy jumps up to 173 – that's the only time we see any real moderate energy in the whole period. The report says "surfable waves but very ordinary conditions" which, in this context, is the best we’re gonna get. So if you're desperate for a dip, keep an eye on the afternoon of Wednesday the 22nd at Laredo. It won't be world-class, but it's the only thing on the menu.
Don't hold your breath, as after that little blip, it goes straight back to tiny, weak swell for the rest of the period. For the sheer lack of swell and the exposed nature of the beach, there's nothing here that would even interest a kite surfer. This is a proper blank run for the area.
Hang tough, check back in a week or so.
Rusty.
