The Lowdown
Alright, grab a cuppa and let's have a look at the Laredo stretch over the next 16 days. I'll be straight with you – it's a slow start, but the back half of the run has a proper little window that could get the heart pumping.
Alright, the first real chance of a paddle doesn't show up until Friday the 24th of July. Before that, we're looking at a solid week of near-flat conditions. From Tuesday the 14th right through to Thursday the 23rd, it's all tiny, weak swell with combined energy readings barely cracking 100 (15 to 293). The wind is mostly cross or cross-onshore, and the swell is under 2ft. Honestly, you'd be better off checking the kite gear if you're desperate for a fix, because the wave quality is just not there for a paddle surf. The water temp is a notable 73°F on day one, a whopping 6°F warmer than usual – that's very unusual for this time of year.
Then, a shift. Friday the 24th of July finally sees a pulse of longer-period groundswell (14 seconds) from the NW, with a combined energy of 300. The morning looks clean with a light offshore breeze, but the height is only 2ft. It's surfable, but nothing to write home about. The afternoon sees the energy jump to 494, but it's a bit more mixed.
The real stand-out window is the weekend of the 25th and 26th of July. Saturday the 25th is the pick of the bunch. You've got a proper NW swell pushing 7ft in the morning, with a solid 11-second period and a combined energy of 945 (moderate wave energy). The wind is light and cross-offshore, which will keep the faces clean. This is a moderate-sized, powerful groundswell, so it's for the experienced crew. The afternoon drops a touch to 6ft but stays clean. Sunday the 26th is still decent, with a clean 4ft NW swell and a light offshore wind in the morning, but the energy has dropped to 577. The swell direction is NW, which is right on the money for Laredo's optimum.
After that, the pulse fades. Monday the 27th has some 5ft surf in the morning with clean offshore wind, but the energy is down to 351, and the conditions are just "ordinary". The rest of the week into the 29th hangs around the 3ft to 4ft mark, with clean-ish conditions but low energy (199 to 272). It's a fade-out, not a bang.
So, to sum it up: don't even bother looking until the 24th. The clear standout is Saturday the 25th of July morning. That's your window for the best, most powerful, and cleanest surf of the whole run. It's a solid, expert-level day. The morning of Sunday the 26th is your second-best option.
