The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s break down what’s coming for this stretch of coast.
We’re starting Friday morning with a decent pulse. The water is a warm 75°, which is a fair bit warmer than usual for this time of year. That’s a nice little bonus. Laredo is the only spot on the menu, and it’s a consistent, sheltered beginner-friendly spot. The morning kicks off with a clean 6ft NW swell, period around 10 seconds, and a moderate offshore wind from the west. The combined wave energy is moderate at 580. Not huge, but clean and lined up. Friday afternoon holds up nicely too, with 5ft NW swell, a cross-offshore breeze, and still clean conditions.
Saturday morning takes a turn for the worse. The wind swings easterly, onshore, and the swell drops to 4ft. The energy falls off to 186. It’s poor. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are all flat or nearly flat. The swell is tiny, the period is short, and the energy is weak. We’re talking 0.3ft to 3ft at best. That’s a good four-day stretch of nothing worth paddling for.
Things start to show a pulse again on Thursday the 27th. The morning is glassy, with a small 3ft NW swell and a 9-second period. The energy is back up to 135, but it’s only surfable, not great. The afternoon though, that’s a different story. The swell jumps to 8ft from the NW, period drops to 8 seconds, and the energy rockets to 792. The wind is cross-offshore, so it’s clean. This is getting into expert territory, but it’s clean and punchy.
Now, the standout window. Friday the 28th is the best day on offer. The morning is glassy, with a 7ft NW swell, 9-second period, and energy at 747. The afternoon is solid too, with 7ft NW swell, 10-second period, and a strong 900 energy. Cross-offshore wind keeps it clean. This is the one to circle. Saturday the 29th morning is also glassy, with 5ft NW swell, 10-second period, and 480 energy. That’s a great, clean follow-up session.
After that, the swell backs off a bit. Sunday the 30th is glassy in the morning with 4ft NW swell, but it’s only surfable, not special. Monday the 31st afternoon gets a big spike: 12ft from the WNW, 10-second period, and a massive 2066 energy. That’s a lot of water moving. With a cross-offshore wind, it’s clean, but at that size, it’s strictly for experts. Beginners, stay out of the water that afternoon.
The first week of September looks average. A few glassy mornings with 4ft to 6ft NW swell, but nothing that screams standout. The combined energy stays moderate, in the 200 to 400 range most days. The best of that stretch is Thursday the 3rd morning, with a 6ft NW groundswell, 12-second period, light offshore wind, and a strong 1026 energy. That’s a very good session on offer, but it’s still a week and a half out, so keep an eye on it.
Overall, the first standout is Friday the 28th, with that glassy, clean 7ft NW swell. The second standout is the following Thursday the 3rd, with the long-period groundswell and offshore wind. The rest of the run is a mix of small, poor days and a few punchy, expert-only pulses.
Rusty out.
