Alright, crew, Rusty here. Let’s break down what this stretch looks like for us. It ain't gonna be firing every day, but there’s a couple of windows worth pointing your van towards.
First thing you’ll notice, the water is cooking at 72°F, which is a solid 6°F above the norm for this time of year. That’s a big anomaly, so you can definitely leave the steamer at home.
Right now, we got a long gap of quiet days. The first pulse shows up early Friday the 3rd—a 4ft NW swell with a 12-second period and glassy conditions. The energy is 298 (moderate), but honestly, it’s just okay. Not a waste, but nothing special. Then we hit a dead zone. Saturday the 4th through Wednesday the 9th? Wind is onshore, choppy, or just flat. That’s nearly a week where you’re better off fixing your fins.
Things start to get a little more interesting Thursday the 9th afternoon with a clean, moderate offshore wind from the west at 12 mph, but the swell is barely 1ft. Not worth wetting a wetsuit.
The real shift comes around Friday the 10th. The energy climbs to 127, with a 2ft NW groundswell at 12 seconds, and it's clean. Still small, but cleaner. Saturday the 11th morning is similar with a moderate offshore wind cleaning up a 2ft wave.
The clear winner is Tuesday, July 14th morning. We’ve got 4ft of clean NW groundswell at that lovely 12-second interval. The wind is a light cross-offshore from the WNW at just 6 mph, making for a glassy surface. The combined energy hits 420 (moderate-strong), so there’s some real muscle in the water. Laredo is a sheltered break, and that NW direction is right on the money. It’s a consistent, beginner-friendly spot, but expect crowds often—get in the water early if you want a clean peak.
Looking further out, Saturday the 18th morning offers a 5ft NW swell, glassy with 5 mph winds, and an energy of 367. That’s surfable. By the afternoon it jumps to 7ft with cross-shore winds and a big energy spike of 654 (strong). That’s a lot of water moving, but with a short 9-second period, it could get a bit lumpy and is only for the experienced guys at that size.
Bottom line: Tuesday July 14th morning is your best bet. The Saturday the 18th morning is a promising backup, though it’s further out and less certain. Everything else? A flat spell you can sleep through.
Rusty.
