What's up, it's Rusty. Let's be real about Laredo for the next couple weeks.
You're gonna have to be patient. There's nothing worth paddling for until Monday the 13th of July, and even then it's only 3 feet from the NW with a weak 8-second interval and cross-onshore breeze.
The first sign of real juice comes Friday the 17th of July afternoon when the swell picks up to 5 feet from the NW, but with a short 7-second period. Combined energy is moderate at 193. Winds are cross-offshore so it'll be cleaner than you'd think for that size.
But the real standout is Sunday the 19th of July. Morning arrivals hit 6 feet from the NW, and by the afternoon it's 7 feet from the NNW. Combined energy jumps from 405 to a strong 531. Winds stay cross-offshore, so wave faces should have some shape.
Because the swell is over 5 feet, this is for experienced surfers only. Newer folks should sit this one out. The short 8-second period means it's a windswell, so expect punchy, steep drops and maybe a little bump on the surface, but not the clean groundswell lines. The direction is NNW, and the optimum is NW, so it's a good match for this sheltered spot. Crowds are "often," so you'll have company.
That Sunday the 19th is the clear winner. The water temp is 72°F, which is 6°F warmer than usual – that's a big anomaly.
Before that, you've got a long stretch of flat or weak, poor surf starting now and running through the 12th. The 20th and beyond drop off again, with some 5 feet on Monday but fading fast.
So circle Sunday the 19th of July. 7 feet from the NNW, cross-offshore wind, and the strongest energy of the whole run. That's the call.
Rusty.
