Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what Laredo has in store for the next couple of weeks. Gotta be straight with you, it's a lean patch.
To be honest, the whole 16-day window is a tough one. There are no standout days, no real honkers to get excited about. The first proper chance to even think about a paddle is on Thursday the 10th of July, but even then, the swell is tiny, around 2ft from the NW with a period of 9 seconds, and the combined energy is weak (69). The wind is light and cross-shore, so it'll be clean but gutless. The whole run from now until then is a write-off with barely any energy or terrible wind.
The best of a bad bunch looks like Sunday morning the 12th of July. The winds go glassy – dead calm – which is always a treat. But you're still looking at that small 2ft NW swell with a period of 10 seconds. The energy is still low (72). It’ll be a glassy, small wave session, good for a beginner to get some practice in or for a longboarder to just enjoy being on the water. Crowds are possible here, which for tiny waves feels a bit much. The water temp is sitting at 73°F, which is about 6° warmer than normal – that's very unusual for this time of year, so you might not even need a spring suit.
For the rest of the first week, expect similar conditions: tiny NW swells between 0.7ft and 2ft, mostly clean with light cross-offshore breezes. Nothing has any punch. The swell direction from the NW matches what the spot likes, but there's just not enough of it to do anything with.
Looking into the second week, it stays bleak. The best energy we see is on Wednesday the 22nd of July, with a 4ft NW swell and a period of only 6 seconds. The combined energy finally bumps up a bit to 119, which is weak to moderate. The wind is light and cross-shore, so it’s not blown out. But that short period means the waves will be weak and crumbly. Still, for a sheltered beginner spot getting that direction, it might be the most rideable wave of the whole outlook. It’s not a strong recommendation by any means, just the least bad option.
Honestly, for the next 16 days, you’re better off leaving the board in the car. The setup with the onshore winds and small, weak swell looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Forecasts can change, and it never stays flat forever, but this stretch is a real bummer.
