The Lowdown
Alright mates, Rusty here. Let’s get straight into it. Honestly, this is a rough outlook. For the Laredo stretch, we’re looking at a solid week and a half with almost nothing to ride.
From Thursday the 16th of July through Sunday the 26th of July, it’s all poor surf. Tiny little dribbles of swell with no energy behind them – numbers like (21) and (26) tell you all you need to know. The wind is mostly cross or onshore, just messing it up. It’s a proper flat spell, the kind that’s normal for this area from time to time. On Sunday the 19th, we get glassy conditions with a tiny 1 foot swell from the NW and a long period of 9 seconds, but it’s just too small to surf. Monday the 20th has a bump to about 5 feet from the NNE, with a short 7-second period and energy up to (189), but with a cross-onshore wind, it’ll be a choppy mess. That setup looks way more fun for kite-surfing than paddling.
Now, hang in there, because the end of the month starts to look a bit better. Monday the 27th of July finally shows some surfable waves. The morning is clean with a 4 feet swell from the NW, an 8-second period, and moderate energy of (155). The wind is a light cross-offshore from the NW. That is your one standout session in this whole forecast – the only one worth the early wake-up. It’s not a monster, but after that long dry spell, a clean 3-4 foot wave is going to feel like heaven. The afternoon brings a similar 3 feet swell with (129) energy, but a bit more wind.
Looking way out to Friday the 31st of July, there’s another glimmer: a clean 3 foot NW swell with a 10-second period and offshore wind from the WNW, with energy of (145). That’s a promising long-range signal, but we all know how much can change between now and then.
So, the call is simple: don’t bother with the first 11 days. Circle Monday the 27th of July on your calendar – that’s the one to chase.
Rusty.
