Table - best surf conditions forecast for Laredo over the next 16 days.
Alright, I’m gonna level with you. I’ve looked at every bit of the next 16 days for Laredo, and honestly, for the first week and a half, it’s a tough watch. The water is sitting at 73° right now, which is much warmer than normal for this time of year – feels like the summer has really settled in. But the swell? Barely a whisper. We’ve got a solid ten days of tiny, weak surf with combined energy readings mostly in the double digits, often under 100 (weak). The swell direction is mostly from the NW, which is the optimum for this spot, but the heights are just shy – 2ft at best, and the period is short, under 8 seconds. Not much to work with.
From Sunday the 12th right through to Tuesday the 22nd, it’s a flat spell. The morning of the 12th has some clouds and a light SE cross-on breeze at 6 mph, with 2ft of NW swell – but it’s poor. The wind is light, but it’s onshore, making it choppy. The afternoons are a little cleaner, but the swell drops even more. Days go by with tiny 1ft, 0.7ft, even 0.3ft waves. We get a few glassy moments on the mornings of the 17th, 18th, and 19th, but there’s no push behind them. The afternoon of the 18th gets a bit of a NE breeze at 12 mph, and that’s just messy. It’s a real blank run.
Then things finally wake up. The standout window is Thursday the 23rd. That morning, under some rain showers, a solid NW swell pushes in at 7ft with a period of 8 seconds and a combined energy reading of 519 (strong). The wind is light from the NW at 3 mph, cross-offshore, so it’s clean. That afternoon is even better: 7ft swell, energy jumps to 579, and a light NW breeze at 6 mph keeping it clean. That’s the best of the whole run – solid, powerful, and clean. This is for experienced surfers though, as it’s over 7ft, and beginners might want to sit this one out.
Friday the 24th is still surfable, with 5ft swell in the morning and a clean WSW breeze, but it’s not as good. The energy drops to 371 (moderate). The afternoon sees 4ft and a gentle offshore from the WNW at 9 mph, so it’s clean, but smaller. After that, the weekend of the 25th and 26th fades back to small, poor conditions, with onshore winds picking up again.
The last call is Monday the 27th. The morning has 3ft of NW swell, glassy conditions with a light NNW breeze, and energy at 126 (weak). It’s surfable but ordinary. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore breeze, but the swell is still small.
So, if you’re hanging on for a wave, your best bet is Thursday the 23rd. That’s the one. Get on it before the wind or the crowds do. Everything else is a gamble.
Rusty.
