The Lowdown

Alright, crew. Let’s talk about the next couple of weeks for Playa de Ris. To be straight with you, there’s a lot of flat, choppy nothing to sit through before we get a real window. We’ve got a long, quiet stretch to start, so don't get too eager. The first session that’s actually worth paddling for doesn't roll in until Monday the 27th.

From Wednesday the 22nd right through Sunday the 26th, it's looking poor. We’re looking at small, weak, short-period windswell and onshore breezes that will chop the surface to bits. Heights aren’t cracking 5 ft and wave energy is low (49 to 252). Strong cross-onshore winds are going to make it look more like a kiteboarding zone than a surf break. Just leave the boards in the truck.

Now, Monday the 27th morning is the clear highlight. Playa de Ris will see a clean, 5 ft groundswell out of the NNW with a 10-second period – that’s real energy (510) and should wrap in with some good shape. The kicker is the wind, which is forecast to be dead glassy. That’s going to give us clean, smooth faces. This is the best we’ll see across the whole forecast. The water temperature is running much warmer than usual for July, coming in at 74°, which is over three degrees above average – pretty unusual and a real bonus. It’s a fairly consistent spot, but crowds are often a factor, so get out there early. The afternoon stays clean with a light cross-off breeze, so you can still get a session in.

After that standout, Tuesday the 28th morning offers a surfable 4 ft wave, but it's nothing to write home about. Then it's back to ordinary stuff: smaller swell and increasing cross-onshore winds through to Thursday the 30th.

We get another quiet period before Saturday the 1st of August morning. That brings a tiny 2 ft groundswell with a very long 12-second period and glassy conditions. It’s barely enough to ride unless you’re on a longboard and super keen. After that, the first week of August looks generally small and ordinary with onshore winds and sub-3 ft swell.

So here’s the bottom line: your one true target is Monday morning the 27th at Playa de Ris. The rest is a waiting game. This region can go quiet like this, but forecasts can shift. Stay tuned.

Rusty.
