Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cobblestones over the next 16 days.
Right, mate, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we’ve got one spot on the radar: Cobblestones. It’s a reef setup, and it’s looking like there’s a decent run of swell coming, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away with a steamer top or a 3/2.
The first real action kicks off on Sunday the 12th of July. It’s not the best, but it’s a start. We’ve got a 8ft SSW swell rolling in with a 18-second period, which is proper long-period groundswell. That kind of energy (7106) is substantial, but the wind is coming from the SSW at 9 mph, making it a cross-on breeze. It’s going to be a bit choppy and marginal. The wave comment says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” so it’s a bit of a gamble.
The real standout, and I mean the one you want to circle on your calendar, is Monday morning the 13th of July. The swell jumps to 13ft from the SW, with a 16-second period. The combined energy is massive (7227). The wind is a light 6 mph from the SW, cross-on, but it’s light enough that it’s only creating small ripples. This is a big, powerful swell. Because it’s over 8ft, this is strictly for experienced surfers only. The wave comment says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” but the raw power is undeniable. The period is long, so at a reef break like Cobblestones, it should hold up well and offer some proper lines.
Tuesday the 14th of July cleans up nicely. The morning is showing clear skies and a light 6 mph NE wind, which is a cross-off. That’s glassy. The swell is still a solid 10ft from the SW, 15-second period. The wave comment calls it “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” The energy is still high (4309). This is probably your best all-round window for quality waves that aren’t total chaos. The afternoon is similar, with a 10ft SW swell and 14-second period, still clean.
Now, Wednesday the 15th of July gets a bit messy. The wind swings to the north and cranks up to 25 mph in the morning. The swell is 7ft SW, but that wind is strong, cross-off. The wave comment says “marginal surf forecast,” and the score is low. It’s going to be a battle. The afternoon is a bit better with a 10ft SW swell and 16-second period, but the wind is still 22 mph from the north. It’s clean in terms of being cross-off, but it’s a strong breeze.
From Thursday the 16th of July through to Tuesday the 21st of July, things go downhill. The wind is all over the shop – strong cross-shore, onshore, and rain. The swell directions shift to WSW, and the quality drops. The wave comments are all “poor surf conditions” or “marginal.” There’s a big spike on Saturday the 18th of July, with a 20ft WSW swell, but the wind is howling onshore at 28 mph, and the wave comment says it’s “too big for this break.” That’s a kite-surfing day, not a paddle day.
There is a gap of poor conditions from the 16th to the 21st. Then, on the 22nd of July, Wednesday morning, the wind drops to 6 mph from the NNW, but it’s cross-shore. The swell is 8ft WSW, 12-second period. It’s marginal, but it’s a start.
The next window of real interest is the 23rd of July, Thursday. We’ve got a massive 16ft to 18ft SW swell, with a 17-second period. The energy is through the roof (15962 and 16409). But the wind is a strong 19-22 mph from the WNW, cross-on. The wave comment again says “too big for this break.” This is serious, dangerous, heavy water. Only for the absolute top-tier crew, and even then, it’s questionable.
The 27th of July, Monday morning, looks like a nice little finisher. The wind is light (6 mph) from the NE, offshore. The swell is 6ft from the SW, 14-second period. The wave comment says “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” The energy is moderate (1329). This is a clean, manageable swell for a solid session.
So, to sum it up: The clear standout is Monday morning, the 13th of July for the raw power, and Tuesday the 14th of July for the cleanest, most manageable conditions. The long-range window on the 27th of July is promising but a long way off. Keep an eye on the wind, and don’t even think about the 18th or 23rd of July unless you’re after a washing machine.
Rusty.
