The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the cards for Cobblestones.
First off, the water is sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than what we'd normally expect for this time of year. That's a nice little bonus.
Right now, it's a pretty grim start. We've got a solid 8ft SW swell rolling in, but it's coming with a 16 mph cross-onshore wind out of the SSW, and the whole thing is just choppy and messy. The combined energy is a hefty 3451 (moderate to strong), but with conditions like that, it's not worth paddling out for. Sunday the 23rd is more of the same, with rain showers and a cross-onshore breeze keeping things ugly.
We need to wait until Monday the 24th for a glimmer of hope. The morning sees a 10ft SW swell (13-second period, moderate energy at 3045) and the wind swings to a gentle cross-shore from the NW. It's still a bit lumpy, but it's a step in the right direction. Tuesday the 25th looks like a write-off again with a strong, lumpy cross-shore wind.
Now, here's the big one. Wednesday the 26th of August is the standout, but it's not for the faint-hearted. The combined swell energy is a massive 20106, with an 18ft WSW swell and a very long 18-second period. The wind is light from the SW, but the problem is the sheer size. This is a wave for experts only, and even then, it's predicted to be too big for this break. If you're a charger, you might be tempted, but be smart about it.
The rest of the week is a mixed bag of marginal conditions with moderate winds and cross-chop, but we've got a couple of solid windows. Saturday the 29th of August is worth a look. The morning brings an 8ft SW swell with a 16-second period and a gentle offshore wind from the ENE. The conditions are clean, and the energy is a solid 3883. This is a good call for experienced surfers looking for some well-shaped waves.
Then, Tuesday the 1st of September is another clean moment. The morning is glassy with an ESE breeze at just 3 mph, and a 10ft WSW swell with a 15-second period. The combined energy is 3497, and the description is "excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers." The period is long, so expect those long lines and bigger gaps between sets.
The very end of the outlook, around Saturday the 5th and Sunday the 6th of September, shows some promise with clean, cross-offshore winds and a big 20ft swell. But again, that's a monster wave that's likely too big for this spot, so it's more of a "watch and wonder" situation.
So, to sum it up: the best bets for a proper session are Saturday the 29th of August in the morning, and Tuesday the 1st of September in the morning. That's where the clean conditions and solid swell come together. The rest is a lot of waiting and watching the wind.
Rusty.
