Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, surf is on the way. The first pulse rolls in for the afternoon of Friday, July 3rd, so there's no gap at the start. Let's get stuck into it.
We're looking at a solid run of groundswell at Cobblestones. This is a reef break, advanced-only territory, and it's exposed to the swell. The water temp is sitting at 67°F, which is pretty much what you'd expect for this time of year, nothing wild there.
Friday afternoon, July 3rd, kicks things off with an 8ft SW swell, but the wind is a light 3 mph from the north, keeping things clean. The energy is pumping hard, with a combined reading of 3011, so there's plenty of push. It's a solid entry point for experienced surfers.
Saturday the 4th is a different story. The swell jumps to 10ft in the morning, but that wind cranks up to 16 mph from the NNE. It stays cross-off and the wave faces stay clean, but it's a lot of wind for a big swell. The afternoon drops to 8ft, but the same wind strength makes it a bit of a wrestle. This one's for the fit lads only.
Sunday the 5th is a write-off. Rainy, strong winds, and chop. Don't bother.
Now, Monday the 6th is the standout. Morning sees a 13ft SW swell, ESE wind at 13 mph keeping it cross-off and clean. The energy is massive at 6577. But the real magic is Monday afternoon: same 13ft swell, wind drops to 9 mph from the ESE, still cross-off, and the energy cranks up to 8066. This is the pick of the entire outlook. If you're an expert, you do not miss this session. The period is 16 seconds, so it's a proper groundswell with long, powerful lines. At a reef like this, it's going to be spectacular.
Tuesday the 7th morning is another cracker. 12ft SW swell, light 6 mph SE wind, clean as a whistle, and energy at 6706. Afternoon gets a bit lumpy with a cross-shore wind, but still solid.
From Wednesday the 8th through to Thursday the 9th, we've got a slow drop in size, from 10ft down to 8ft, with light northerly winds keeping things clean. Good, solid, reliable waves.
Thursday afternoon the 9th gets messy with onshore wind and rain.
Friday the 10th is small and choppy. Not worth it.
Then Saturday the 11th throws another massive pulse. 15ft SW swell, but it's cross-on with a moderate breeze and choppy. This is huge, heavy, and ugly. Only for the absolute lunatics.
The following week sees a return to cleaner conditions. Sunday the 12th morning has a 10ft SW swell with light offshore wind from the ENE – that's the best wind you can get here. Clean and powerful. The rest of the week offers stints of 7ft to 10ft swells with mostly clean conditions and glassy moments on Tuesday the 14th afternoon, where the wind drops to nothing and the sea goes glassy. Beautiful.
Later in the second week, from the 15th to the 18th, the swell hangs around but the wind gets a bit stronger. Friday the 17th has a fresh breeze at 19 mph, so the conditions get trickier. Saturday the 18th looks like a no-go with heavy rain and strong cross-onshore wind.
Best on offer: without a doubt, Monday afternoon, July 6th. That 13ft SW groundswell with light cross-off wind and an energy reading of 8066 is as good as it gets for the advanced crew. Second shout goes to Tuesday morning the 7th. Crowds are listed as "sometimes" here, so you might have a few others in the lineup, but with waves this good, it's worth sharing.
Rusty.
