Table - best surf conditions forecast for Cobblestones over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for Cobblestones over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of swell on the menu, but the wind is going to be a real talking point. The first week is a bit of a mixed bag with a lot of cross-onshore action, but the second half of the window starts to clean up nicely, and there’s a monster pulse lurking right at the end that could be absolutely epic if the conditions align.
Kicking off on Thursday the 9th of July, we’ve already got a decent 10 ft swell from the WSW, but a light breeze from the NW is making it cross-on, and the water temp is sitting at 66°, which is about normal for this time of year. The energy is strong (3572), but the reports say the surf is marginal. Not a great start. Friday the 10th sees the swell drop to 6 ft, but a 25 km/h cross-on wind from the SSW chops it right up; it’s a write-off. Saturday the 11th is frustrating – the swell is pumping back up to 10 ft and 12 ft from the SW with a solid 13-second period, but it’s still cross-on and choppy. The energy is serious (3753 on Saturday afternoon), but the quality isn’t there.
Sunday the 12th is a bit better. The swell is 10 ft from the SW, and the wind is light from the WSW, but it’s still onshore. The energy is very strong (5243). It’s a step in the right direction, but not a standout.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. Monday the 13th of July is the first real highlight. We’ve got a 13 ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period. The energy is pumping (7786). The wind is a light 5 km/h from the SW – it’s technically cross-on, but it’s a light breeze with only small wind ripples. The report calls it marginal due to tide, but the score is high. This is a powerful, long-period swell that will be breaking a bit straight at a beach break, but at a reef like Cobblestones, it should be an absolute freight train. The cross-on wind is a bummer, but with that energy, it’s still the best of the first week. This is for advanced surfers only – 13 ft is no joke.
Tuesday the 14th is a real beauty. The swell is still big at 12 ft in the morning and 10 ft in the afternoon from the SW, but the wind swings around to a light NE breeze, giving us a clean, cross-off wind. The report calls it “exceptional” and “excellent” for experienced surfers. The energy is high (5036 and 3913). This is your window for a proper session – clean, powerful, and offshore. The crowds might be around, so get in early.
The wind stays clean and cross-off through Wednesday and Thursday (15th and 16th), but the swell drops a bit and the wind picks up, which keeps the quality from being top-tier. The energy is still present, but it’s not as clean.
Then we hit a rough patch from Friday the 17th through Sunday the 19th. Friday is a disaster with a 40 km/h cross wind and messy chop. The rest of the weekend is cross-on and choppy again. The swell is still there, but the wind ruins it.
Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st see the swell drop right off to 5 ft and then 3 ft, but the wind goes clean offshore and cross-off. The energy is weak (697 and 382). It’s tiny, but it’s clean. Good for a log or a longboard, but not for power.
Now, hold on to your board. Thursday the 23rd of July starts to look insane. The morning session has an 18 ft swell from the WSW, and while the wind is a light cross, the energy is 8723. That’s a massive amount of water moving. The afternoon is even bigger at 20 ft, but the wind turns cross-on and choppy. That’s just heavy, messy power.
But the real standout is Friday the 24th of July. The morning has an 18 ft SW groundswell with a *17-second* period. The energy is a staggering 34672. The wind is a light 10 km/h from the SE, giving us a clean, cross-off breeze. The report says the wind and tide are favorable, but the swell is predicted to be too big for this break. This is a once-in-a-forecast window. For expert surfers only, this is the one. The afternoon drops to 15 ft still with a 17-second period and clean light cross winds. It’s still massive and powerful. This is the big one, but it’s deep in the forecast, so keep your fingers crossed the models hold.
To wrap it up: the first week has a lot of wind frustration, but Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are your best bets for heavy, powerful surf with manageable wind. The real standout is the massive pulse on Friday the 24th of July, but it’s only for the brave and it’s a long way off.
Rusty.
