Alright, Rusty here once more, but in feet and miles per hour.
Right now, it’s quiet, but get ready for a serious run of surf. The first solid swell arrives this Friday, July 3rd, and from there, the wave window is wide open with barely a break for nearly two weeks. This is a big, powerful Southwest swell train, and it’s aiming right at Cobblestones (a reef break). The standout session is Monday afternoon, July 6th. We’re talking about 15ft swell from the WSW with a long 15-second period, and the wind is a clean cross-off. The combined energy is massive at 8377 (moderate-strong). That’s big, powerful, and clean – expert territory for sure, but absolutely pumping. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is only a touch warmer than average for this time of year, so not unusual.
Leading up to that, Friday the 3rd morning is a solid start: 10ft SW swell, 14-second period, and clean with a light offshore ENE breeze. The energy is already strong at 3708. Afternoon gets a bit cross, but it’s still in the game. Saturday the 4th sees the swell hold at 10ft, but the wind picks up strong from the NNE, so it’s a bit more of a handful. Sunday the 5th is a write-off – strong onshore winds and rain, surf quality is poor.
Then it fires back. After Monday, Tuesday the 7th is another top contender: Tuesday morning has 13ft SW swell, 16-second period, and clean cross-off wind. Energy is huge at 7961. That morning is exceptional for experts. The swell stays solid and clean through the 7th and into Wednesday the 8th, though the wind shifts a bit cross. There’s still plenty of size and power right through to Friday the 10th, with the swell easing to a more manageable 7ft on Friday morning with clean offshore wind.
The second week stays alive but gets a bit bumpier. Saturday the 11th is messy in the morning, but Saturday afternoon has a sneaky long-period 20-second groundswell at 6ft from the SW, which could be very lined up at this reef if the cross-off wind holds. Sunday the 12th and Monday the 13th see size jump back up to 10-12ft, all clean and cross-off. That Monday morning the 13th has a clean, moderate offshore wind from the east – excellent for shape. Tuesday the 14th afternoon is a real highlight: 12ft SW, a clean offshore breeze, and the energy is strong at 4447.
The last few days of the run, from Wednesday the 15th onward, the swell drops back below 8ft, and the wind gets strong and cross, so it’s a fading out. Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th have enormous swell (13ft to 21ft), but the wind and conditions aren’t ideal, and the size is way too much for this spot – that’s kamikaze territory. Saturday the 18th morning is glassy, but 21ft is insane for any reef.
A quick word on the break: Cobblestones is consistent and exposed, but it’s an advanced reef. With these sizes, it’s strictly for experienced surfers. It can get crowded sometimes, but with these sizes, the crowd will thin out. The optimum swell direction is SSW, and the forecast is giving us a lot of SW and WSW – close enough to work well.
So, your best bet: Monday afternoon, July 6th, with Tuesday morning, July 7th as a close second.
Rusty.
