Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty, and we’re looking at Cobblestones, a reef break that only the advanced crew should be eyeing off. There’s nothing for the next day or so, so we’ve got a gap before the surf really starts to show. The water’s sitting at about average for the time of year, so no surprises there.
Sunday the 5th is a write-off. We’ve got light rain and a fresh cross-shore wind making a lumpy mess out of a 5-foot SW swell. Combined wave energy is weak (902). Don’t bother.
Monday the 6th sees the swell building. Morning’s still messy with a cross-shore breeze and lumpy cross-chop on an 12-foot WSW swell, energy ramping up (5768). But Monday afternoon cleans up nicely – clear skies, a moderate cross-offshore breeze, and a solid 13-foot WSW swell rolling in with 15-second periods. The combined energy is strong (6892), and it’s clean. This is a standout for the experienced crew, but at 13 feet, it’s only for experts.
Tuesday the 7th morning is where it gets special. Clear skies, a light cross-offshore breeze, and an 12-foot SW groundswell at 16 seconds. Combined energy is very strong (6423), and it’s described as exceptional for experts. That’s the blue-ribbon session. The long period means the waves will have real shape and power, but on a reef like this, expect long lulls between sets. Afternoon turns more cross-shore and choppy, so hit the early.
Wednesday the 8th morning is another cracker – light offshore breeze, 12-foot WSW swell with a very long 17-second period, and exceptional conditions for experts (6680). The energy is pumping. Afternoon goes cross-on and loses a bit of shine.
Thursday the 9th is a write-off with onshore winds and rain. Friday the 10th morning sees a drop in size to 5-foot WSW swell, clean with a light cross-offshore, but the energy is moderate (1134) and the score is just okay for experienced surfers.
Saturday the 11th morning has an 8-foot SW groundswell at 16 seconds, clean and glassy with a slight air. Combined energy is strong (2809). Good for experienced surfers, but not the standout of the run.
Sunday the 12th is very tidy – 8-foot SW swell, light offshore in the morning, and then Sunday afternoon goes glassy with a 8-foot SW swell. Both sessions are clean and excellent for experienced surfers. Great for a relaxed paddle.
Monday the 13th morning is another absolute standout – 12-foot SW groundswell with a 16-second period, glassy conditions, and exceptional for experts. Combined energy is very strong (5123). This is one of the best on offer.
Tuesday the 14th and Wednesday the 15th mornings both offer clean, glassy conditions on 10-foot and 7-foot SW swells respectively. Good, but not the top tier.
Thursday the 16th goes windy and lumpy. Friday the 17th is messy with rain and moderate cross-onshore wind.
Now, look ahead to Saturday the 18th morning – a massive 16-foot SW swell with a 17-second period and clean, cross-offshore wind. Combined energy is enormous (14527). It’s described as marginal because it’s simply too big for this break, even for experts. The afternoon pushes to 18 feet (16341). This setup is more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing. Not the one for a surf.
Sunday the 19th morning drops back to 12-foot SW with a 16-second period, clean and cross-offshore, and exceptional for experts (5974). A solid finisher to the outlook.
Best on offer: Tuesday the 7th morning and Monday the 13th morning. Both glassy or light offshore, big SW groundswell with long periods, and exceptional conditions for those who can handle it.
Rusty.
