Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, Rusty here, let’s take a look at what’s coming down the pipe for Cobblestones. This is a solid, exposed reef break that handles a good south-west swell, and it’s going to be a wild ride over the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a serious run of pumping swell ahead, but it’s not all smooth sailing. The water temp is sitting pretty average for this time of year, so no shock to the system there.
The week kicks off on Saturday, 4th July, with a solid 10 ft SW groundswell (17-second period) in the morning. The energy is cranking, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The wind is a cross-off from the NNE at 15 mph, which keeps it looking clean, but the forecast notes suggest the tide might be a bit questionable. It’s a hefty size for sure, over 8 ft, so this is strictly for the experts. The afternoon drops a touch to 8 ft, still a long 16-second period, and the energy is still strong, but again, that tide factor is a bit of a worry. This isn’t the standout session.
Sunday is a write-off, with a strong 25 mph NNW wind creating a messy cross-chop on a dropping 5 ft swell. Rain and poor conditions. Forget about it.
Monday, 6th July, is where we start to see the real potential. The wind swings around to the SE, a clean cross-off at 12-15 mph. The swell is a thumping 13 ft from the WSW with a 15-second period. The energy is massive. This is big, powerful, and clean. It’s well over that 8 ft mark, so only the most experienced crew should be out there. The raw wave quality is high. This is a standout for the first week, but it’s serious, heavy reef surf.
Tuesday, 7th July, still holds size with a 13 ft SW swell (16-second period) in the morning, but the wind is a cross-shore from the SSE, which puts a bit of a chop on it. The energy is still huge, but it’s not as clean as Monday. The afternoon drops to 11 ft, same story with the cross-shore wind.
Wednesday, 8th July, is another highlight. The morning is glassy, with a NNE wind at only 3 mph, giving a clean cross-off. The swell is 11 ft from the WSW with a long 16-second period, and the energy is massive. The forecast is calling it exceptional for expert surfers. This is a window of pure, clean, powerful reef waves with very little wind. The afternoon sees the wind pick up a little, but it’s still a solid option.
From Thursday, 9th July, through Sunday, 12th July, the wind turns onshore or cross-onshore with rain, making a mess of the 8 ft to 11 ft swells. Not worth the paddle for quality.
Then we get a second wind. Sunday, 12th July, afternoon is a real gem. The swell is a clean 10 ft from the SW (13-second period), but the wind is a gentle cross-off from the SSE. The energy is still strong, and the forecast says excellent conditions for experienced surfers. This is a much more manageable size than the 13 ft days, and the clean conditions will make for some epic, long lines on the reef. This is a top pick for the second week.
The absolute standout of the entire 16-day outlook is Monday, 13th July. The morning is a dream: a 13 ft SW groundswell (16-second period) with a clean 6 mph offshore wind from the NE. The energy is off the charts, and the forecast is calling it exceptional for experts. That’s the one to circle on the calendar. The afternoon is still excellent with a 11 ft swell and light offshore winds.
After that, the swell slowly drops through the week, with clean but smaller surf on Tuesday and Wednesday (14th and 15th July). The wind stays favourable, but it’s not as big. The final weekend (18th-19th July) looks poor again with strong onshore winds and a messy cross-chop on a 10 ft to 13 ft swell.
So, to keep it simple: Monday, 6th July afternoon is your first big, clean, powerful session. The real standout, the one you don’t miss, is Monday, 13th July morning – offshore, 13 ft, perfect conditions. Sunday, 12th July afternoon is a great, slightly smaller alternative for the experienced crew. This is a reef break that can get mean, but when it’s clean, it’s world-class. Keep an eye on the tides, and don’t paddle out if you’re not ready for the big stuff.
Rusty.
