The Lowdown
Right, let's have a look what’s coming up for Huzzawouie (Huzzas). This is a beginner-friendly reef break, exposed to the swell, and it's pretty consistent. The water's sitting at 66°F right now, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a nice bonus.
The week kicks off on Sunday the 23rd of August, and honestly, it’s a bit messy to start. We’ve got a solid 8ft to 8ft SW swell, but that cross-off wind is making things feel marginal. The wave energy is strong though, clocking in at 2601, building to 3214. Monday the 24th looks worse, with onshore winds and a drop in quality, so not one to get excited about. Tuesday is a write-off with rain showers and strong onshore winds, so the surf quality is poor.
Now, Wednesday the 26th of August is where things get interesting, but also a bit tricky. The swell is pumping, pushing 16ft from the WSW with a very long period of 18 seconds. That’s a massive groundswell, and the wave energy is through the roof at 15320. The wind goes offshore, light and clean, which is perfect. But, and this is a big but, that swell is too big for this break. It’s solidly in the "experts only" zone, and even then, a reef break with that much energy will be serious. Thursday the 27th is still big, 12ft, but the wind is up again, making it feel less inviting.
We get a bit of a breather on Friday the 28th. The swell drops back to a more manageable 7ft from the SW, with a clean offshore wind. It’s still a moderate period, but the energy is down to 1455. It’ll be clean and fun, but not a standout. Saturday the 29th has some punchy 10ft sets in the afternoon, but the wind is side-off. For the rest of the month, it’s a mix of clean but marginal conditions.
Looking into September, the real standout window is Friday the 4th of September. We’ve got a big 15ft WSW groundswell rolling in with a very long 16-second period, and the wave energy is massive at 10305. The wind is light and cross-onshore, which is a bit of a buzzkill, but the raw power is there. It’s a big call for experienced surfers. Sunday the 6th also looks solid with 15ft to 13ft, clean conditions, and moderate energy levels.
But the absolute gem, if you can handle it, is Monday the 7th of September. The forecast is calling for a monster 21ft WSW swell with a massive 20-second period. The wave energy reading of 29861 is insane. The wind is light offshore, promising perfect, clean conditions. However, the guidance is clear: this is too big for the break. It’s a once-in-a-while kind of day, but only for the most experienced chargers. The afternoon looks the same, with 20ft and offshore winds.
Overall, this is a stretch with some serious power but not much for the average surfer. The early week is a write-off, then we get a few days of decent but not perfect conditions. The standouts are the huge swells in the second week, especially the 21ft bomb on the 7th of September, but that’s strictly for the experts. For the rest of us, there are gaps of poor quality days, so keep an eye on the forecasts.
