Alright, let’s talk surf. Summer’s starting slow, but we’ve got a big run of clean swell building. The first decent action is a few days out.
Right now, nothing doing. The first real chance hits Friday morning, July 3rd. Huzzawouie (Huzzas) gets a solid 10-foot southwest swell with a long 14-second period. A light east-northeast breeze at 6 mph keeps it clean. Water is about 67°F, which is pretty average for this time of year. This is powerful, lined-up surf, but at that size, it’s for experienced surfers only. The wave energy is pumping hard (combined energy of 3200). Expect a crowd here. Friday afternoon drops to 8 feet with a light cross-on wind, making it less attractive.
Saturday morning, July 4th, holds 10 feet but the wind jumps to 15 mph from the north-northeast, creating a messy cross-chop. Not worth paddling out. Saturday afternoon is worse with stronger onshore wind. Sunday is a total washout with heavy rain and onshore wind. You’re looking at a few days of nothing.
Now, the good stuff. By Monday morning, July 6th, the magic kicks in. Huzzawouie (Huzzas) fires with a 13-foot groundswell from the west-southwest, a 15-second period, and steady offshore wind from the southeast at 15 mph. The energy is huge (6483), and conditions are clean and powerful. This is strictly for pros at this size. Monday afternoon is even bigger in energy (7459), still offshore, still clean. Tuesday, July 7th, is the standout of the first week: 11-foot swell, 16-second period, light offshore wind at 6 mph, and glassy conditions. The combined energy of 7034 tells you this is serious, perfect reef-swell. If you can handle big, clean waves, this is your window. It stays good through Wednesday and Thursday, easing down to 8 feet and then 7 feet by Friday, July 10th, with clean conditions and offshore winds.
Another pulse arrives Saturday, July 11th, with 6-foot surf in the morning, but the afternoon brings a 5-foot, 20-second period groundswell and offshore wind. That super-long period will wrap beautifully into the reef. The energy hits 2724. More manageable for strong intermediates.
Sunday, July 12th, is back to 10 feet with clean offshore wind. Monday and Tuesday, July 13th-14th, hold at 10 feet with cross-offshore wind, keeping it smooth. Then we hit another rough stretch mid-week: Wednesday and Thursday, July 15th-16th, bring strong onshore wind and lumpy conditions. Skip it.
Friday, July 17th, gets wild. Pouring rain, 25 mph onshore wind, 13-foot swell, and massive energy (8836). It’s a total mess—that’s more of a kitesurfing day.
Then comes the bomb. Saturday, July 18th. Huzzawouie (Huzzas) sees a 21-foot swell from the west-southwest, 13-second period, and glassy conditions—no wind at all. The energy is insane at 14175. That is a true monster. Only the most experienced surfers should even look at it. The shape will be there, but the power is staggering. Saturday afternoon drops to 20 feet, still clean. This is the best of the entire 16-day outlook, but it’s almost three weeks out, so consider it promising but not locked in.
Your best bets? Tuesday, July 7th, for that perfect, clean 11-foot groundswell with light offshore wind, and the huge Saturday, July 18th, if you’re an expert and the forecast holds. Everything else has its moments, but those two are the real standouts.
Rusty.
