The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s cookin’ for Noises over the next couple weeks.
Right off the bat, things are messy. Sunday the 23rd kicks off with a 8ft SW swell and a 13-second period, but a strong cross-on breeze is ruining it – it’s choppy and pretty average. The combined energy is moderate (2766), but the quality is just not there. Monday and Tuesday stay in the same rough patch; we’ve got 8ft to 12ft SW swell, but the wind stays cross-on and lumpy, making it a write-off. Tuesday the 25th actually sees a 12ft WSW swell, but with a fresh breeze, it’s just a mess. This stretch is a real bummer.
Now, Wednesday the 26th is a whole different story, but it’s not for everyone. A massive 18ft WSW groundswell rolls in with a very long 18-second period, and the energy is off the charts (19143). The wind is light and cross-off, so the surface will be glassy. But here’s the thing – that size is too much for this reef. This is strictly for absolute experts only. The same goes for Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday morning, where we still have a hefty 12ft to 16ft SW swell, but still clean. It’s a powerful, dangerous setup.
The standout window opens up Friday the 28th morning. We’ve got a clean 8ft SW swell with a 12-second period, and the wind is blowing offshore from the east at 20 km/h. The energy is moderate (1509), but the conditions are absolutely pristine. This is the best on offer – clean, lined-up waves for experienced surfers, but the size is manageable. For a spot like Noises, with that exposed reef and consistent breaks, as the optimum swell direction is WSW, this SW swell is a good fit.
Saturday the 29th looks promising too, with a 8ft SW swell and a 16-second period. The wind is cross-off in the morning, keeping it clean. The energy is moderate (4083). It’s a solid option, but the Friday morning is the pick.
The second week, starting Sunday the 30th, gets messy again. We’re back to 10ft+ SW swell with cross-on winds and lumpy conditions. The energy stays moderate, but the quality drops off. Monday the 31st through the following week is a write-off with onshore winds and poor conditions. By the 5th and 6th of September, we see another massive pulse of 15ft to 25ft WSW swell, but again, the wind is cross-on and it’s way too big for a good time. The 7th of September sees a colossal 25ft swell with 17-second period (32761 energy), but it’s just too big and blown out.
So, to sum it up: the clear standout is Friday morning, August 28th – clean, offshore, solid 8ft SW swell. Saturday the 29th is also good. The rest is either blown out or too big. Stay patient.
Rusty.
