Table - best surf conditions forecast for Noises over the next 16 days.
G'day, I'm Rusty. Let's have a look at what's on offer for Noises over the next couple of weeks.
Right off the bat, we’ve got a bit of a mixed bag. The first few days are looking pretty average, with a lot of wind and chop making things messy. The water temp is sitting at 66°F right now, which is about normal for this time of year, so no surprises there.
Friday the 10th and Saturday the 11th are a write-off, to be honest. We’ve got a solid 6ft to 12ft swell coming in from the SW, but the wind is onshore or cross-shore, and the wave energy is moderate (1653 to 3905). It’s just choppy and wind-affected. Not worth paddling out.
Sunday the 12th is a bit bigger, with 10ft SW swell, but still cross-onshore winds and the energy is starting to build (5313 to 6751). Still marginal.
Now, here’s the first real standout. Monday the 13th morning. The swell is pumping at 13ft from the SW, with a very long period of 16 seconds. This is proper groundswell. The wind is only a light cross-onshore at 3 mph, and the energy is strong (7227). It’s a big swell, over 8ft, so this is only for experts. The long period will make it a bit straight at the beach, but for a reef break like Noises, it should handle it well. The swell is coming from the SW, which is right on the money for the optimum direction (WSW). This is the best of the first week.
Tuesday the 14th is another cracker. Morning has an 12ft SW swell with a light cross-offshore breeze from the NE at 6 mph, making it clean. The afternoon is even better: glassy conditions with 10ft SW swell. The energy is still strong (4024 to 4958). This is a solid day for experienced surfers, with clean waves and a consistent swell. The crowd at Noises can be around sometimes, but with this quality, it’ll be worth it.
Wednesday the 15th and Thursday the 16th turn ugly. Strong winds from the north and south-west, 22 to 25 mph, with onshore and cross-shore winds making a mess of the 8ft to 12ft swell. Forget it.
The weekend of the 18th and 19th is a big, wild system. Saturday the 18th has 13ft SW swell with near gale-force winds at 31 mph. It’s blown out. Sunday the 19th is still huge, with 16ft WSW swell, but the wind is still moderate to fresh cross-onshore. The energy is extreme (9054). This is too big for paddle surfing and with that wind, it’s more of a spectacle for the experts than a session.
Then we get another clean-up. Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st mornings bring a 10ft to 5ft SW swell with light offshore winds, clean conditions. The energy is moderate to strong (1773 to 2081). This is a good run for intermediate to advanced surfers.
The last true standout is Wednesday the 22nd morning. We’ve got an 12ft SW swell, with a very long period of 14 seconds, and offshore winds from the E at just 3 mph. Clean as a whistle. The energy is strong (4969). This is the pick of the second week. The swell is solid, over 8ft, so it’s only for experts, but it’s going to be a ripper.
The rest of the week into the 24th and 25th gets messy again, with a massive 16ft swell on Saturday the 25th that is too big for the break. The forecast says it’s going to be too big for Noises, so don’t even think about it.
So, overall, you’ve got two standout windows: Monday the 13th to Tuesday the 14th, and then Wednesday the 22nd. The first week has the best combination of size, period, and wind. The second week is a bit more of a gamble, but the 22nd looks promising. For the rest, it’s a lot of chop and wind.
Rusty.
