The Lowdown

Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it.

We’ve got a serious run of swell on the way for Noises, but it’s a mixed bag. The standout window is tight, and you’ll need to pick your moments carefully.

The first real action kicks off on Friday, 21 August, with a big 11.5ft SW groundswell rolling in with a 14-second period. The wave energy is massive (5427), and the water temp is about average for this time of year. Friday morning is the absolute gem: glassy, zero wind, and that big SW swell. It’s a lot of water – over 8ft – so this is strictly for experts. Chopes-style power. The wind goes cross-shore by the afternoon, and the quality drops slightly, but the size holds.

Saturday, 22 August through Monday, 25 August is a write-off for clean conditions. The swell stays solid – 8ft to 10ft – but the wind is cross-shore or cross-onshore, and the sea state gets lumpy and choppy. The energy is still high (3000-4000 range), but the wind is just ruining the surface. Skip it.

Wednesday, 26 August is the big one. This is the true standout of the whole outlook. A massive 16.4ft WSW swell arrives with a very long 18-second period, and the energy reading is enormous (17607). The wind is only a light breeze from the south, cross-shore, so the surface is clean. This is a beast of a day. The swell is huge – over 8ft – so once again, experts only. The point break nature of Noises will handle that long period perfectly, keeping the waves from just closing out. Crowds are possible, but on a day this size, it’ll thin out the pack.

Thursday, 27 August sees the swell drop to 13-15ft, still with a 15-second period. The wind is a fresh SSE cross-offshore, keeping the waves clean. It’s still very big, and the energy is still high (6623-8693). Solid, but not quite as epic as Wednesday.

From Friday, 28 August onwards, the wind turns onshore or creates lumpy conditions, and the quality plummets straight into the dirt. There’s a brief window on Wednesday, 2 September and Thursday, 3 September where the swell is back up to 13-15ft with moderate cross-shore winds, but it’s not the same. The water will be choppy, and the energy is high but the surface is messy. The end of the run into 5 September shows a 16.4ft SW swell with 18-second period and light onshore wind – that’s promising but the wind direction is wrong, so it’s a question mark.

So to wrap it up: Wednesday, 26 August is your day. The combination of size, period, and clean wind is a rare thing. Friday the 21st morning is also a classic. The rest is for the die-hards or the kite surfers when the wind gets strong.

Stay safe out there.
