The Lowdown

Alright, grab your wettie, and let me talk you through what’s on the cards for us at Noises. It’s a reef setup, no doubt for the experienced crew only, and we’ve got a real mixed bag coming our way over the next couple of weeks.

Right out of the gate, Friday the 21st is our standout – and it’s a beauty. We’ve got a solid 12 ft of SW groundswell rolling in, with a deep 14-second period. The real kicker? It’s dead glassy in the morning. No wind, just clean lines. The water’s sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so that’s a bonus. The energy is massive – way up at 5427 – so you’ll feel the grunt. It’s an advanced spot, and with that size and power, this is expert territory only. The afternoon will still have 12 ft swell, but the wind swings cross-on from the SSW at 6 mph, and things get a bit more marginal.

Saturday the 22nd and Sunday the 23rd both get knocked down by stronger S winds in the 12-16 mph range. The swell holds at 8 ft to 10 ft, but it’s a messy cross-shore chop, making it hard work. The energy drops a bit too – down to 4301 on Saturday morning.

Monday the 24th has a little window early with light N winds and clean 10 ft SW swell (energy of 3091), but it short-lived. The wind goes cross-on from the NW by afternoon and everything gets lumpy again.

Tuesday the 25th is a write-off for the morning with 22 mph NW cross-onshore winds and rain – just nasty. The afternoon sees the wind shift to offshore from the W, with an 12 ft WSW swell, but it’s still a marginal one.

Now, Wednesday the 26th is a serious red flag. We’ve got a 16 ft WSW groundswell with a 17-second period – that’s a brute. The combined energy is extreme at 16085. That is way, way too big for Noises. It’s a reef break and this is a proper big-wave day for absolute specialists only. The wind will be cross-on from the SSW, making it even more daunting. Thursday the 27th is still big with 13 ft SW swell, but still battered by cross-onshore winds.

Now we get a bit of a reprieve. Friday the 28th morning: 8 ft of SW swell, and the wind goes cross-off from the SE. Clean conditions, decent energy (1693). It’s a good morning for the experienced crew to get some proper shaped waves. Saturday the 29th morning also looks clean, with a light NE breeze and 6 ft SW swell. It’s a little smaller but glassy, and the energy is at 1822.

Sunday the 30th is a gamble – we get a clean, cross-off wind from the NNE, but it’s blowing 19 mph. The swell is 8 ft WSW with a 15-second period. Clean but howling. Monday the 31st all the way through to the end of the forecast (September 5th) is almost entirely blown out. We see huge swell with cross-onshore winds regularly over 22 mph. The 5th of September even has a 23 ft WSW swell – that’s not surf, that’s a washing machine. It’s a kite surfer’s dream maybe, but for paddle surfing, it’s a hard pass.

So there you have it. Friday the 21st morning is your absolute best chance. Barely anything else in this window offers the same combo of clean, big, and powerful.

Stay safe out there.
