Righto, let’s have a look at what’s coming up for Noises. This is a reef break set up for advanced surfers, and it’s a consistent spot that’s exposed to the swell. The water’s sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year – nothing crazy, but a nice little bonus.
The whole forecast period is a bit of a rollercoaster. We’ve got big, powerful swells rolling in, but the wind is often going to be a problem. The standout window is definitely the morning of Sunday, July 12th, through to Tuesday afternoon, July 14th. That’s where the magic is.
Sunday the 12th kicks off with a solid 10ft SW swell, period around 14 seconds, and the combined energy is pumping at 5563. It’s a bit cross-on, so it’s not perfect, but there’s plenty of power. Monday the 13th gets even bigger – 13ft SW swell in the morning, period 16 seconds, energy hitting 7227. The wind is lighter, still cross-on, but it’s manageable. The absolute best of the bunch is Tuesday the 14th. The swell drops slightly to 10ft, still from the SW, but the wind goes light cross-off from the NE, which cleans it right up. The energy is still strong at 4135 and 3619 for the morning and afternoon. That’s the cleanest, most surfable wave of the whole run. Crowds are only a sometimes thing here, so it’s worth the paddle.
After that, the wind turns nasty. Wednesday the 15th through to the end of Thursday the 17th is a write-off – strong winds from the NW and WNW, big cross-chop, and the swell is just a mess. There’s a huge spike on Saturday the 18th with a 21ft WSW swell and energy off the charts at 23261, but the wind is a strong cross-onshore. At that size, it’s only for experts, and with those conditions, it’s honestly more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
The following week is hit and miss. Sunday the 19th shows some promise with a 13ft SW swell and lighter winds, but the wind turns onshore or cross-on again. The second week is mostly marginal, with a few blips of cleaner conditions but nothing that really stands out above the first week. The best call is to nail Tuesday the 14th.
