The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's have a look at what's on the menu for the next couple of weeks.
Alright, so we're looking at a stretch that starts with a bit of a rough patch. The first few days are a write-off, honestly. The wind is all wrong, onshore and messy, and the swell is just not cooperating. You're looking at Monday the 24th and Tuesday the 25th with strong cross-onshore winds and a lumpy, choppy mess. Not worth getting wet for. The combined energy is high, but it's just ugly.
We get a slight tease on Wednesday the 26th with a massive 16ft west-southwest swell, but that's way too much juice for this reef break. The combined energy is massive (17,010), but it's a "too big" situation. Thursday the 27th is still a bit cross and lumpy, with the energy dropping but the conditions still not there.
Now, listen up. Friday the 28th is where it starts to get interesting. The morning is a gem. We've got a clean 8ft southwest groundswell with a 12-second period, and the wind goes glassy. Glassy! That's the word. The combined energy is moderate (1,533), and the conditions are described as excellent for experienced surfers. This is your window. It's not a monster, but it'll be clean and have some punch. The afternoon gets a little cross-shore, so make the most of the morning.
Saturday the 29th is a bit of a mixed bag. The morning has a clean 8ft southwest groundswell with a very long 16-second period. That's a beautiful, long period groundswell. The wind is clean cross-offshore. The afternoon sees the swell bump up to 12ft with an 18-second period, but the wind goes cross-shore, so it won't be as clean. The energy is up there (6,779), but the morning is your best bet.
The rest of the first week and into the second week is a bit of a waiting game. There are some alright days, like Monday the 31st with clean cross-offshore winds and an 8ft west-southwest swell, but the energy is moderate. The conditions are variable, with a lot of cross-shore wind and chop.
The real standout, the one you've been waiting for, is Sunday the 6th of September and Monday the 7th of September. That's over a week away, so take it with a pinch of salt, but it looks promising. Sunday the 6th has a huge 16ft to 18ft west-southwest swell, with a 14-second period, and the wind is clean cross-offshore. The combined energy is massive (25,436 on the afternoon). That's for experts only. Too big for anyone else.
But then Monday the 7th of September morning is the absolute peak. We're looking at an 18ft west-southwest swell with a 14-second period, and the wind is offshore. Clean, offshore. The combined energy is massive (12,229), and the forecast says "exceptional surf conditions for expert surfers." That's the big one. The hidden gem, the one that could be a session for the ages. The afternoon eases off a bit, but the morning is the target.
So, to sum it up: The first few days are a wash. Your best bet for clean, surfable waves is Friday the 28th of August morning. The distant, high-risk, high-reward standout is Monday the 7th of September morning. Keep an eye on that one.
Rusty.
