The Lowdown
Alright, let’s break it down. Right now, Noises is getting thumped – this morning (Saturday 18th) we’ve got 18ft of WSW swell pouring in, but it’s blowing 25 mph onshore, and the whole thing is junk. Water temp’s about 67°F, a couple degrees warmer than usual for July, but that won’t matter when the surf is that messy. The energy is huge (8948) but conditions are poor. That’s the story for the first few days: plenty of size, but wind and chop ruin any shot. Sunday and Monday stay marginal – 10–12ft, cross-onshore or onshore, not worth dragging your board out.
Things start turning around on Wednesday the 22nd. That morning we get a clean 11–12ft SW groundswell, period a solid 14 seconds, with a light offshore breeze at just 6 mph. By the afternoon the wind goes glassy – dead calm. Energy is pumping (4468–4586). This is excellent for experienced surfers – not for learners (over 8ft), but for the advanced crew it’s a gem. Crowds are sometimes an issue here, so expect some company.
But the real standout is a week from now, on Sunday 26th July. We’re looking at 11–13ft SW swell from a very long-period groundswell (16–17 seconds) and clean cross-off winds all day. The energy numbers are off the charts – 7798 in the morning, 7903 in the afternoon. That’s a serious pulse. Noises is a reef break, so that long period will wrap in perfectly. A word of caution: at 11–13ft, this is strictly for expert surfers only. If you’re not feeling it, you could get hurt. Still, if you’ve got the skills and the crowd tolerance, this is the session to circle.
After that, things settle down a bit but stay fun. Thursday 30th July (another week and a bit out) shows another 13ft SW swell with clean cross-off winds – a 7 out of 10 – so keep an eye on it. It’s a long-range call, so nothing locked in, but promising. The last few days of the month fade into smaller 5–7ft or less, with some clean windows but nothing special.
So in short: a rough start, a nice clean day on the 22nd, but the true standout is Sunday 26th July – big, long, clean, and heavy. Mark it down.
