Right then, let’s have a look at the next 16 days. There’s quite a lot to get through, so I’ll walk you through it in order.
We’re starting off at Noises, a reef break that takes a keen eye. It’s gonna be pretty big and powerful out there right from Monday the 6th of July, with a solid 11.5ft to 13.1ft WSW swell rolling in, carrying a very long 15-second period. The wave energy is massive, right up there in the thousands – we're looking at values over 5600 and 6700. It’s a lot of water moving. The wind is a cross-offshore from the SE, which will keep things reasonably clean, but this is proper heavy groundswell. For the advanced crew only. The water temp is about average for this time of year.
Tuesday the 7th of July is where it really comes together. The morning is a standout. You’ve got an 11.5ft swell from the SW, a touch bigger in period at 16 seconds, and the wind swings light and offshore from the ESE. That’s a recipe for perfection at this reef. The combined energy is over 6400, so there’s plenty of grunt. This is the best session on offer in the near-term, but it’s for experts only at this size.
Wednesday the 8th sees the size hold at 11.5ft from the WSW, still long-period groundswell, but the wind switches to a light onshore, so expect a bit of texture on the face. Not a write-off, but not Tuesday clean.
By Thursday the 9th, we’re down to 9.8ft, but the wind gets up to 12-15 mph from the WSW and S, making things ugly. The wave energy drops to around 4000 and 3500, but it’s too chopped up. Friday the 10th is a complete write-off – the swell drops to 7.2ft to 8.2ft, and the wind cranks up to 15-18 mph onshore. Poor.
The weekend of the 11th and 12th of July sees the swell jack back up in a serious way. On Saturday the 11th, we’re looking at 16.4ft of SW groundswell with a 15-second period. The energy readings are massive – over 10,000 and 11,000. That is some serious, serious ocean energy. But the wind is a moderate cross-shore from the south, so you’ll have a bit of a fight on your hands. This is for the very experienced only. Sunday the 12th is a little more manageable at 11.5ft but with a very long 17-second period from the SW. The wind is lighter, but still cross-shore, so it’ll be bumpy.
After that heavy weekend, there’s a bit of a lull. Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th of July still have a solid 7.9ft to 9.8ft of SW groundswell, and the morning winds on both days are light and cross-offshore from the NNE. That keeps things clean, and the energy is moderate to strong. Worth a look for the experienced surfer, as the coastal conditions are promising.
The second week gets a bit scrappy. From Wednesday the 15th, the wind turns onshore and gets very strong (18-25 mph from the NW and W), knocking the quality right down. There’s a big swell on the 16th (11.5ft WSW, 16-second period), but with fresh onshore winds, it’s just messy and dangerous. That continues through the 17th, with strong onshore winds and a dropping swell.
We do see a bit of a turnaround by Saturday the 18th of July. A 9.8ft SSW swell rolls in with a 14-second period, wave energy back up over 7000, but it’s still a fresh cross-shore wind. It’s not pretty, but it’s surfable for the keen.
Then we get into the final few days. Sunday the 19th sees the swell drop to 5.9ft, energy down to around 1300, and by the afternoon the wind turns light and cross-offshore from the SSE, cleaning things up. It’s small.
The true standout of the entire second week, and probably the pick for the whole period if you like it clean but smaller, is Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of July. On Monday, you’ve got a 6.6ft to 6.9ft SW groundswell with a 14-15 second period. The wind is glassy and offshore on Monday afternoon – literally dead calm. This is a very rare opportunity for absolutely perfect, clean conditions at Noises. The wave energy is moderate at around 2000. Tuesday morning keeps the 6.6ft swell with a light cross-offshore wind. This is a gem for the more experienced surfer who wants quality, not brutal size.
So, to boil it down: the absolute best on offer is Tuesday morning the 7th of July for the big, powerful, offshore perfection for experts only, and the quieter standout is Monday afternoon the 20th of July for that rare, glassy, clean smaller session.
