Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
G’day, I’m Rusty. Let’s talk about the surf coming up at Noises over the next couple of weeks.
Water temp is 19° – right around average for this time of year. The combined swell energy is massive to start, hitting 6660 (moderate to strong wave energy) – you’ll feel the power.
We start Monday afternoon, July 6, with a 13ft swell out of the WSW, period a very long 15 seconds. That’s real groundswell. Wind is a light cross-off from the SE at 9 mph, so it’s clean. But this is a reef break for advanced surfers only. At 13ft, beginners need to stay out – this is expert territory.
Tuesday morning, July 7, the swell drops to 12ft from the SW, period 16 seconds – even longer. Wind is lighter at 6 mph from the SSE, still cross-off. Clean again. Energy is still huge at 6420. Another expert-only session.
Tuesday afternoon gets a bit messier – 10ft SW swell, period 15s, but the wind swings southerly at 6 mph, making it cross-shore with small ripples.
Wednesday morning, July 8, the wind turns onshore from the west at 6 mph, but Wednesday afternoon is the standout early on – glassy conditions with a 12ft WSW swell, period 15 seconds, and the wind goes dead calm at 3 mph from the SW. That’s glass. Energy is 6254. If you’re an expert, this is the session.
Thursday, July 9 sees onshore winds pick up, and by the afternoon it’s cross-onshore at 9 mph, dropping quality. Swell down to 8ft, period 14s. More manageable for some experienced surfers, but lumpy.
From Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12, the swell runs 7ft to 10ft, period 12–14 seconds, with cross or cross-onshore winds. Moderate energy.
Now, Monday morning, July 13 – the real standout. We’ve got a 13ft SW swell, period 16 seconds, and the wind is a light cross-off from the ESE at just 3 mph. Clean as a whistle. Combined energy is 7500 – strong to very strong. This is a gem for experts. The optimum swell direction for Noises is WSW, and this SW is close enough to work beautifully.
Tuesday, July 14 stays clean in the morning with a NE cross-off at 3 mph, 10ft SW swell, period 14s. Good for experienced surfers.
Wednesday, July 15 brings a fresh breeze from the NNE at 19 mph, but it’s cross-off, so the face stays clean. Swell is 8ft, period 14s.
Then we hit a rough patch. From Thursday, July 16 through Sunday, July 20, the wind turns nasty – strong cross-onshore, onshore, and near-gale conditions. Swell stays big, 10ft to 15ft, but the wind trashes it. This is more kite-surfing territory than paddle surfing. Energy is high but messy.
Monday, July 20 afternoon improves a bit with moderate cross-shore wind, 10ft SW swell, period 14s – still marginal.
The final standout is Tuesday, July 21 – morning and afternoon both show a 12ft WSW swell, period 16 seconds, with a clean cross-off wind from the SE at 9–12 mph. Combined energy is 5587–5599. Swell direction is spot-on for optimum. Clean, powerful, and for experts only.
Best of the best: Monday morning, July 13 and Wednesday afternoon, July 8 – with a late shout to Tuesday, July 21. Crowds can be a factor at Noises – it sometimes gets busy, so keep that in mind.
Rusty.
