The Lowdown
Alright, Rusty here. We’ve only got one spot in the frame for the next 16 days: Noises. It’s a reef break, so it’s a proper wave, and it really likes a swell out of the WSW. This one’s for the experienced crew only. The water’s about 67°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.
The first few days, from the 18th to the 21st, are pretty much a washout. The 18th has a 16ft swell out of the WSW, but it’s getting hammered by a 30 km/h onshore wind. The energy is massive (12,392), but it’s just a messy, blown-out wall. The following days are a mix of 8ft to 12ft SW swells, but the wind is cross-on and choppy, killing the shape.
The real window opens on the morning of Wednesday the 22nd. The wind goes glassy (ENE, 5 km/h), and the swell is a clean 10ft from the SW at 13 seconds. The combined energy is a solid 4,306. This is excellent, clean surf for the advanced surfer. The light offshore wind will hold the face open. This is the day to circle.
The 23rd is also clean, with a cross-offshore wind and waves around 7ft to 8ft. It’s good, but not as powerful. Then the wind turns nasty again from the 24th through the 27th, with fresh onshore winds making a mess of the 6ft to 13ft swells. The energy peaks at 8,338 on the 26th, but it’s a strong cross-onshore mess.
We get another glassy morning on the 28th, with an 8ft SSW swell, but the energy is lower (2,594). It’s a clean wave, just not as punchy. The 29th sees a drop to 3ft, with a super long 18-second period, but it’s weak and crossed up.
The end of the month and start of August goes huge. The 30th and 31st have 8ft to 16ft swells from the WSW, with periods of 17 to 18 seconds, and energy over 12,000. The wind is cross-on, so it’s going to be a wild, unruly beast. On the 1st of August, we’re looking at 18ft of SW groundswell. The morning has a clean cross-offshore wind, but it’s so big it’s predicted to be too big for the break. The 2nd of August still has a 15ft SW swell and clean cross-offshore winds, keeping it in the heavy category.
The standout for the whole period is the morning of Wednesday the 22nd. That glassy, clean 10ft SW swell is the best you’re going to get.
Rusty.
