Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at the coming weeks. We’ve got a solid run of surf ahead, so let’s get straight into it.
The pattern is setting up nicely with a consistent, long-period SW groundswell. This is a reef break, so those long-period swells will really shine, offering up well-shaped, powerful lines. The energy is strong for most of the run, with some seriously heavy days for the experts later on.
We kick off Sunday, July 5, but it's a bit of a washout to start. Morning is a write-off with lumpy cross-shore wind and poor conditions. By the afternoon, the swell is picking up to a clean 7ft from the WSW, and the wind settles to a gentle cross-shore, but it’s still just marginal.
Monday, July 6, things step up. The swell pushes to 12ft to 13ft from the WSW with a moderate cross-off wind keeping it clean. This is where it starts getting fun, but with the size, it’s moving into expert territory.
The standout for the first week is definitely Tuesday morning, July 7. We’ve got a clean 12ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period, a light cross-off breeze, and the combined energy is pumping at 6423. This is exceptional, world-class stuff for the crew that can handle it. Don’t expect to have it to yourself, though – crowds are often an issue here.
Wednesday morning, July 8, is another beauty. Glassy offshore wind from the ESE, a solid 12ft WSW swell rolling in at a very long 17-second period, and energy at 6680. This is pure, lined-up reef perfection for experts.
We get a bit of a drop-off Thursday and Friday with onshore wind and crummy conditions, but the swell still has some size. Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, see things clean up again with light winds and consistent 8ft to 10ft SW swell. Sunday afternoon looks particularly sweet with glassy conditions and a 8ft swell.
Looking further out, the second week is packed. Monday morning, July 13, is a glassy, clean 12ft SW groundswell at a 16-second period—another exceptional morning for experts. Tuesday, July 14, is clean with offshore winds and 10ft swell. Wednesday, July 15, offers glassy conditions with 7ft SW swell, perfect for a fun, clean session.
But the absolute standout of the entire forecast, and it's a long way off so keep an eye on it, is Saturday, July 18. The morning brings a mammoth 16ft SW groundswell at a 17-second period, with clean conditions and a combined energy reading of 14527. This is a giant, heavy, expert-only day. The afternoon jumps to 18ft with energy at 16341, but the forecast notes it might actually be too big even for this exposed reef. We’ll have to wait and see, but that morning session is a genuine big-wave event.
The run continues into Sunday, July 19, and Monday, July 20, with clean, solid 10ft to 12ft SW swells and good offshore or cross-off winds. There are very few gaps in this outlook; it’s a solid two-week block of surf, just with varying wind quality.
Water temp is about average for this time of year. Overall, we are spoiled for choice. Get on it.
Rusty.
