Table - best surf conditions forecast for Surfers Point over the next 16 days.

Right, let’s have a look at what’s on the cards for the next couple of weeks. This is a classic run for a world-class reef break, but you’ll have to be patient because the first few days are a bit rough.

The standout here is Surfers Point (Ventura). This is a very consistent, exposed reef that handles a lot of swell, but it’s only for advanced surfers, especially when it gets big. Right now, the water is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might get away with a thinner wetsuit. The optimum swell direction is from the WSW, so when the energy lines up, it’s a proper wave.

We’re kicking off this Sunday, the 12th of July, with some early morning size. There’s a solid 10ft SW groundswell (14-second period, moderate energy – 5563) but the wind is a gentle cross-onshore, making it fairly choppy. It’s surfable, but not the best quality. By the afternoon, the swell drops to 8ft but the period stretches to 18 seconds, which is very long. That’s a lot of energy (7106), but those long period groundswells can be tricky at the beach, though at a reef like this, it should still hold up. The wind stays light and cross-onshore, so it’s a bit messy.

Monday the 13th is a big day. The morning has a proper 13ft SW swell (16-second period, very strong energy – 7227). The wind is still light and cross-onshore, so it’s a little lumpy. This is expert territory at this size. The afternoon eases a touch to 11.5ft but the wind goes nearly glassy, so it cleans up, but the energy is still huge (5731).

The best window of the first week looks like Tuesday the 14th. The swell drops to a more manageable 10ft from the SW, but the wind goes light and cross-offshore from the NNE. This is clean, with excellent conditions for experienced surfers all day. The morning is glassy clean, and the afternoon stays that way. The energy is strong (4309–3619), so you’ll have plenty of push. This is your best bet for the first week.

Then things get a bit messy. Wednesday the 15th through to the weekend gets blown out by strong winds. Wednesday sees a fresh 22 mph cross-shore (N) making it lumpy, and that trend continues into Thursday and Friday with strong onshore winds. The swell is still there, but the quality is poor. By Saturday the 18th, the swell is predicted to be far too big for this break – 20ft to 21ft with enormous energy (22072 – 20635). That’s a giant, dangerous wave, and the wind is strong onshore. This is not a paddle session; if you’re a kite surfer, this setup might be interesting, but for a surfboard, it’s a no-go.

Sunday the 19th is still big and onshore, but the size drops to 13ft. Not great.

Now, the second week brings a promising but less certain window. Monday the 20th will be a nice surprise. The swell has dropped to 6.5ft from the SW, but the wind is glassy from the SE in the morning. That’s a clean, gentle wave with moderate energy (1518). It’s still for experienced surfers, but it’s a much friendlier size. The afternoon gets a little windier but stays clean.

Wednesday the 22nd is a quiet day with small 4.5ft SW swell and low energy (670). Not much to write home about.

But then Thursday the 23rd of July is another standout. The swell jumps back to 16ft from the SW (17-second period, very strong energy – 15322). The wind is light and cross-offshore from the NNE in the morning, making it clean. This is a massive, powerful groundswell, and it will be an expert-only session. The afternoon gets a bit choppy with a moderate cross-shore, but the morning window is the pick.

Friday the 24th and the weekend get blown out again by strong onshore winds, so the quality drops. The swell stays big (11.5ft to 13ft) but it’s messy.

Looking at the very end of the forecast, Monday the 27th of July is the real prize. The morning has a 13ft SW groundswell (16 seconds, very strong energy – 8431) with light, clean cross-offshore winds from the SSE. The afternoon gets even better, with a 15ft WSW swell (17 seconds, massive energy – 13438) and the same light, clean wind. This is exceptional, expert-level surf. The swell direction matches the optimum (WSW), the period is long, and the wind is perfect. If you can wait, this is the session to aim for, but keep in mind it’s a long way out, so the forecast could shift.

So, the standout sessions are Tuesday the 14th for a big, clean, manageable day, and Monday the 27th of July for potentially the best, most powerful, cleanest surf of the entire run. The rest of the
