Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's talk about what we've got coming down the line for the next couple of weeks. It's a proper stretch of groundswell for the experts, with a lot of size and power on the table, but the wind window is going to be your golden ticket – you gotta pick your moments.
We start off with a big pulse of energy rolling in on Saturday the 4th of July. The combined swell energy is a massive 5166 – that's some serious power in the water. You're looking at solid 10ft sets from the SW with a very long 17-second period. This is pure groundswell. The catch? A moderate north-northeast breeze is keeping it clean, but it's a touch cross-off, and the water's sitting at 67°, which is a bit warmer than average for this time of year. This is predominantly an advanced wave; that 10ft with that period isn't for the faint-hearted.
The real standout window, and I mean the one you put on your calendar, is Wednesday morning, the 8th of July. We've got 12ft of swell from the WSW, a 17-second period, and the wind is glass – dead calm. The combined energy is a massive 6447. For a reef break like Surfers Point, that's about as good as it gets. The waves will be lined up, powerful, and with that shape from the reef, it'll be a proper session for the crew who know what they're doing. The only downside is this break is *often* crowded, and on a morning like this, you can expect company. But for a few hours of the day, it's about as close to perfect as a forecast can get. The Tuesday morning (7th July) is also a near-standout with clean 12ft at 16 seconds and a light breeze – that's a solid backup.
Later in the first week, the wind gets messy. The size stays big, but from Thursday the 9th onwards we get strong cross-onshore winds, making a mess of the bigger 13ft to 16ft swells. By Friday the 10th, it's blowing a gale at 25 mph and the swell is just a stormy, choppy mess – definitely a day to stay on the beach.
After the weekend, things clean up again. Monday morning the 13th of July sees a return to that quality. We've got a 10ft SW groundswell with a 16-second period, and the wind is light easterly – straight offshore. That's a dream setup for a reef, creating clean, hollow faces. The combined energy is 4310, so there's plenty of push. It's classed for experienced surfers, and that's exactly what it is.
Heading into the second week, the consistency drops off a touch and the swell starts to fade. A few days in the middle of the week (14th-15th) have small, whimpery 5ft to 7ft swells. The wind is clean off the land, but the ocean just doesn't have the same power. The final real run we see is Saturday the 18th, but it's a poor set-up. The wind is onshore, and while the swell jumps back up to 16ft, the period has dropped to a short, choppy 10 seconds, and the wind is ruining it. It's a pass. The wave energy is high (4968) but the quality is zero.
The last few days of the outlook (19th July) show a drop-off in size and a return to onshore wind, so the run of good clean swell is fading fast by that point.
Best Bet: Wednesday morning, 8th July, at Surfers Point. That glassy 12ft WSW groundswell with the crazy long period is your stand-out session of the whole 16 days.
Stay safe out there.
