The Lowdown
G’day, I’m Rusty, and I’ve been watching this 16-day window for Surfers Point. It’s a reef break that’s exposed to the swell, demanding for advanced crew, and it’s very consistent—so when conditions line up, it can be magic. The water’s sitting at 67°, a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, which is a nice little bonus.
The first real standout is Tuesday, July 14. Morning brings a clean, 10ft SW swell with a 15-second period—a proper groundswell packing serious energy (4309). The wind is NNE at 6 mph, cross-off, keeping the face clean. That’s a solid, powerful wave for experienced surfers. The afternoon holds up too, with a 14-second period and 9 mph NE cross-off breeze, still clean. This is the best on offer early on.
Wednesday, July 15, starts with the same 10ft SW swell, but the wind has jumped to 22 mph from the NNE. That’s a fresh breeze, and while it’s cross-off, the chop will be messy. By afternoon, it’s a write-off with strong cross-shore wind. Thursday, July 16, sees the wind shift onshore, and the swell mixes with a WSW direction—poor conditions for the rest of the week. The weekend gets ugly: Saturday, July 18, has a massive 18ft WSW swell onshore in a strong breeze, and the energy is off the charts (9733 to 12373), but it’s just a washing machine. Not a paddle session.
There’s a gap from Wednesday, July 15, through to the end of the month, with nothing but marginal or poor conditions. The wind is relentless, mostly onshore or cross-on, and the swell stays big and messy. The consistent nature of this place means it’ll turn around, but it’s a long wait.
The real standout lands on Saturday, July 25. Morning is glassy, with a light N wind at 3 mph, and the swell is a clean 6ft from the SSW, period 12 seconds. Energy is moderate (2264), but the glassy conditions make it a dream for experienced surfers. The afternoon stays glassy, with a 6ft SSW swell. That’s your best window in the second week—clean, manageable, and all to yourself.
Then, Tuesday, July 28, gets interesting. The swell jumps to 13ft from the SW, 10-second period, but the wind is SSE at 9 mph, cross-off, keeping it clean. The energy is strong (4005), and it’s excellent for experienced surfers. The morning of Wednesday, July 29, is a true standout: glassy, 13ft from the SSW, 12-second period, and exceptional energy (5167). That’s a big, clean groundswell for the experts. The afternoon sees a light cross-shore, but still solid.
Overall, grab Tuesday, July 14, and then hold out for Saturday, July 25, or the big glassy morning on July 29.
