The Lowdown
Alright, folks, Rusty here with the forecast for the next sixteen days. Let’s break it down.
The first few days are a bit of a struggle, but there’s a gem in there. The one to really aim for is Wednesday morning, July 22nd.
So, starting on Sunday, July 19th. It’s not pretty—rain showers, a cross-onshore wind, and the swell is a solid 12 feet, but it’s all chopped up. The water is 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year. The combined energy is pumping (4097), but it’s not clean. Not a good day.
Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st are similar—onshore and cross-shore winds, with the swell hanging around 8 to 10 feet. The wind is just not cooperating. The wave energy is still strong (2154 to 2931), but it’s messy and lumpy. You’d be fighting it.
Then we get to Wednesday morning, July 22nd. This is the one. Surfers Point is on. The wind is light and offshore from the east, the swell is a clean 12 feet from the WSW, and the period is a very long 16 seconds. This is real groundswell. The combined energy is massive—6051. The water is still that touch warmer than normal. This is for experts only—over 8 feet is big, and with that long period, it’s going to be powerful and hollow. A reef break like this loves that direction and period. It’ll be clean, glassy, and the best day on offer. The afternoon stays clean with a cross-offshore wind, but the morning is the pick.
Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th still have good, clean conditions, with the swell dropping to 8 feet and then 6 feet. The wind is light and cross-offshore. It’s still good quality surf for experienced surfers, but the energy is dropping (2421 to 1063). The crowds are something to think about—this spot is often busy, so get there early.
Saturday the 25th is a bit smaller, 5 to 6 feet, with clean conditions and a cross-offshore breeze. It’s still a fun wave, but the energy is getting low (887 to 1134). A good day for a longer board.
Then we hit a gap. From Sunday, July 26th, right through to the end of the forecast, it’s a write-off. The wind goes onshore, cross-on, or just plain strong. The swell gets big again—10 to 18 feet—but the wind is from the wrong directions, blowing it out. By the 30th and 31st of July, we’re talking near-gale winds and massive swell. That 18-foot swell on the morning of the 31st is too big for this break, and the wind is a mess. The energy numbers are off the charts (15848), but it’s a washing machine. Not for paddling. Early August looks even worse, with strong winds and poor conditions all the way through to the 3rd.
So, to wrap it up: the best day is Wednesday morning, July 22nd. Get on it early. The rest of the first week has some clean windows, but that Wednesday is the standout. After that, the second week is a tough stretch—strong winds and big, messy swell. It’s a long blank run from the 26th onward.
Rusty.
