The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s cookin' at Surfers Point. This forecast is a bit of a rollercoaster, so let's get into it.
The next few days are all about one spot: Surfers Point (reef). The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year, so you might not need the thickest rubber.
We kick off Monday, July 20th, with a solid 8ft SW groundswell. The combined energy is strong (2154), but the wind is on it from the W and the forecast is calling it marginal. It’s not the cleanest start, so Monday is a write-off for me.
Things start to clean up on Tuesday, July 21st. The swell is still pumping, 10ft SW (2931 energy), but the morning has a cross-shore chop. The real window opens Tuesday afternoon – the wind goes cross-offshore, dropping the swell to 8ft SW, and the conditions turn clean. That’s a solid session for experienced surfers.
Now, Wednesday, July 22nd, is the absolute standout. The morning shows an 12ft SW groundswell with a very long period of 15 seconds, and the combined energy is massive (6161). The wind is light and offshore from the E. This is pumping, powerful, and clean. Get on it if you’re an expert. The afternoon holds size but the wind shifts.
Thursday, July 23rd, is still very good. The swell drops to 8ft SW, but Thursday afternoon is a dream – the wind goes glassy, dead calm, with clean conditions. That’s a rare treat. Friday, July 24th, is smaller but still fun with clean, cross-offshore winds on a 6ft SW swell.
The weekend gets messy. Saturday, July 25th, the wind swings onshore and the quality drops. Sunday, July 26th, is a mess of wind and rain, but then Sunday afternoon turns into a beast – a big 18ft SW swell (8930 energy) with clean cross-offshore wind. That’s huge, only for the experts, and the crowd will be out.
The following week starts with a cleanup. Monday, July 27th, has 15ft SW with clean conditions, but it’s still big. Tuesday, July 28th, is excellent with a 10ft SSW groundswell and offshore wind. The energy is still strong (4621). The swell stays solid through Wednesday, July 29th, but winds pick up. By Thursday, July 30th, the swell fades.
The second week fades out. There’s a small window on Sunday, August 2nd, with a 5ft SW swell and light wind, but it’s weak. Monday, August 3rd, has a clean 7ft SW swell with offshore wind, which is a nice little pulse. But then Tuesday, August 4th, brings a ridiculous 23ft SW swell (14878 energy) that is completely blown out by onshore wind. That’s a kite-surfing day, not a paddle day.
The best on offer is clear: Wednesday, July 22nd morning. The combination of the 12ft SW groundswell, the very long 15-second period, the light offshore wind, and the massive 6161 combined energy is the best combination in the whole 16-day window. The next best is Thursday, July 23rd afternoon for the glassy conditions.
Rusty.
