The Lowdown
G’day, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. We’ve got a solid run of surf coming up at Surfers Point, but it’s gonna take a bit of patience through the early days. The water’s sitting at 67°, which is a touch warmer than normal for this time of year—nothing crazy, but you’ll notice it’s a little more comfortable than usual.
Right now, it’s a bit of a write-off. Thursday the 16th and Friday the 17th are messy with cross-onshore winds and lumpy, choppy conditions. Swell is there, but it’s not clean. Saturday the 18th brings a massive 18 ft swell from the WSW with onshore winds and poor conditions—that’s expert territory and messy, so not worth paddling out. Sunday the 19th is similar, with strong onshore winds in the morning. Monday the 20th is still marginal.
Things start to turn around Tuesday the 21st. The morning sees a cross-offshore breeze with 8 ft swell from the SW, and by the afternoon it’s even better: 10 ft swell, light SSE breeze at 6 mph, clean conditions. The water’s still a touch warm, and the combined swell energy is strong (2917). This is a proper window for experienced surfers. The swell direction is dead on the optimum WSW, so the reef will be working nicely.
Wednesday the 22nd morning is the standout of the first week. Glassy cross-offshore wind, barely a breath at 3 mph, with 10 ft SW swell. The energy is pumping (2561), and it’s clean. That’s the one to aim for if you’re keen. The afternoon lightens up a bit with a cross-shore wind, but still good.
There’s a lull from Thursday the 23rd through Friday the 24th as the wind swings around and the swell drops. Saturday the 25th sees a big 16 ft bump from the WSW, but with fresh cross-onshore wind and lumpy conditions—skip it unless you’re chasing a kite session.
Now, the real payoff is in the second week. Sunday the 26th is a beast: 16 ft SW swell with moderate cross-shore wind, but it’s lumpy and marginal. Still, the energy is enormous (9718). Monday the 27th shapes up cleaner with cross-offshore winds and 12 ft SW swell—clean and solid.
But the crown jewel? Thursday the 30th. Morning brings 10 ft SW swell with a 19-second period, ENE cross-offshore breeze at 9 mph, and clean conditions. The energy is massive (9410). That’s a proper groundswell with serious power—point break perfection. The afternoon is even glassier, with a light ESE breeze and clean lines. This is the best on offer, hands down.
Friday the 31st wraps it up with another clean day, cross-offshore wind, 10 ft SW swell, and a 16-second period. Strong energy (5002). It’s a long run of good surf, but that Thursday the 30th is the one to circle.
Rusty.
