Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s on the menu for Spot X. We’ve got a run of solid, powerful swell coming through, but the wind is going to be the main character in this story. It’s a reef setup, very consistent, so it picks up everything. The water temp is sitting right around 67°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year, a nice little bonus.
We’re kicking off on Monday, July 6th, with a serious dose of energy. The combined energy is massive, hitting 5074, and it’s a clean 12 ft groundswell from the WSW with a 15-second period. The wind is a cross-offshore, so the morning is looking clean. This is heavy, powerful stuff – over 8 ft, so this is strictly for the experts. The afternoon holds even more energy at 6024, and it’s still clean, described as exceptional for the crew who can handle it. Tuesday, July 7th, keeps the fire burning. Another 12 ft, 16-second swell from the SW with a light cross-offshore breeze in the morning, keeping things clean. The energy is still massive at 5998. This is a very long-period groundswell, meaning it’s gonna unload with a lot of power and longer waits between sets. Perfect for a reef like this. The best sessions on offer are those Monday morning and Tuesday morning windows.
Wednesday, July 8th, is a bit of a curveball. The swell is still a solid 12 ft from the WSW with a 16-second period, and the energy is huge at 5785. But the wind swings light cross-shore in the morning, and then goes glassy in the afternoon. That afternoon window is a standout for the whole forecast – glassy conditions on an 12 ft reef break. That’s a rare, special window. Still, this is expert territory.
Then the wind goes sour. Thursday, July 9th, through Sunday, July 12th, we get strong onshore and cross-onshore winds that will chop up that big swell. The wave heights are still big, up to 13 ft on Saturday, July 11th, but the wind is just ruining it. The energy is still there, but the quality is poor. Saturday afternoon has an 12 ft swell with 5163 of energy, but it’s a choppy mess. Not for the paddle surfer; this setup looks more interesting for kite surfing than paddle surfing.
We get a reprieve on Tuesday, July 14th. The swell drops to a still-chunky 10 ft from the SW, but the wind finally turns offshore from the ENE in the morning. Clean, glassy conditions return in the afternoon. This is your next real window for experienced surfers to get some good ones. The energy is still well into the 4000s.
The middle of the month, from Wednesday, July 15th, to Thursday, July 16th, is a write-off with strong, stormy winds. Friday, July 17th, is a tease. The morning is glassy with a 10 ft WSW swell, but it’s not clean for long as the wind swings onshore in the afternoon. That Friday morning is the last true highlight.
The final week is a bust. The wind stays onshore or cross-onshore, and the swell gets smaller and weaker. We see a tiny window on Monday, July 20th, with an 8 ft, 17-second swell from the SW, but it’s cross-shore and choppy. The only real glimmer is Tuesday, July 21st, over a week and a half out. The morning brings an 12 ft, 16-second groundswell from the WSW with a gentle offshore ENE breeze. The energy is 5587. That’s a promising one for the long-range, but it’s a long way out.
So, to wrap it up: The first few days are the best. Monday morning, July 6th, and Tuesday morning, July 7th, are the standouts for the big-wave chargers. The absolute gem is the glassy Wednesday afternoon, July 8th, on a massive swell. After that, you’re waiting for the offshore Tuesday, July 14th, or the far-off Tuesday, July 21st. It’s a feast-or-famine forecast.
Rusty.
