Alright, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for Spot x.
We’ve got a big run of solid swell on the cards, but the wind is gonna be the real story – it’s going to make or break a lot of these sessions. The water temp is sitting at 67°, which is pretty much spot on for this time of year, no surprises there.
First up, Monday the 6th of July. The swell is a chunky 12 ft from the WSW with a long 15-second period – that’s proper groundswell energy (5074). Winds are cross-offshore from the SE at 15 mph, so it’s clean. But the wave comment flags it as marginal, likely due to tide. It’s a reef break exposed to that WSW direction, and with that size, it’s intermediate territory. Crowds are sometimes, so you might have company.
Tuesday the 7th of July morning looks even better. Same 12 ft swell but swinging a touch more SW with a 16-second period – energy is up to 5998. Winds drop to a light 6 mph from the ESE, still cross-off and clean. The guidance calls it “exceptional for expert surfers” – at 12 ft it’s pushing into big-wave territory, so only for the skilled crew. Get on it early.
Wednesday the 8th of July is a glassy gem. Morning sees zero wind – glass – and a 10 ft WSW swell at 16 seconds, energy at 5552. Waves will be clean, lined up, and powerful. Afternoon stays glassy with a 12 ft swell. Two solid windows for experienced surfers.
Now, from Thursday the 9th through to Saturday the 11th, it turns ugly. Strong onshore winds, rain, and lumpy conditions. Even with a 15 ft swell on Saturday morning (8643 energy), it’s cross-onshore and choppy – a write-off for paddle surfing. That setup would be more interesting for kite surfing than a surfboard.
Sunday the 12th of July brings hope. Morning glass again with ENE light breeze, 10 ft SW swell, 14-second period, and energy 4976. Clean and powerful. Afternoon stays glassy with a 7 ft swell that’s got a very long 17-second period – that’s a groundswell that will stand up nicely, but at a beach or exposed reef it might wall up. Here at a reef it should handle it. Best for experienced surfers.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th of July both offer exceptional conditions. Morning winds are light and offshore (NE and ENE respectively), with 10–12 ft SW swells and periods of 16 seconds. Energy is in the 5000+ range. These are the standout sessions of the whole outlook – big, clean, powerful swell with favourable winds. Crowds are sometimes, but the quality will draw a few.
Wednesday the 15th of July drops off – still 8 ft but winds pick up to 15 mph cross-off, so it stays clean but the energy drops to 2584. Marginal. Thursday the 16th is blown out with strong cross-winds.
Now, heading into the second week, we’ve got a massive pulse arriving Friday the 17th of July – 16 ft WSW swell, 14-second period, energy over 10000. But it’s cross-onshore and choppy. That’s heavy, messy, and not enjoyable. Saturday the 18th is even bigger: 23 ft with near gale-force onshore winds – that’s a dangerous, blown-out beast, only for the truly unhinged and only if you’ve got a death wish. The wave comment says it’s too big for the break anyway.
Sunday the 19th through to Tuesday the 21st of July remain large but onshore, with 18–20 ft swells and strong winds. No good windows for clean surfing in that stretch.
So, the pick of the run is Tuesday the 7th morning and Wednesday the 8th – but honestly, the absolute standout is Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th of July. Big, clean, offshore swell with plenty of energy. Mark those dates.
Rusty.
