The Lowdown

Alright, groms, let’s switch to the old system. Rusty here with the lowdown on Spot X.

We’ve got a solid run of swell coming our way, but the wind is going to be a pain in the neck for a lot of it. The water’s sitting at 66°, which is a touch warmer than usual for this time of year.

Sunday, August 23rd (Afternoon): We’re starting with a SW swell at 8ft, but it’s cross-on. The water’s all chopped up, and it’s a write-off. The combined energy is (3450), but it’s not doing anyone any favors.

Monday, August 24th (Morning): Here’s a small window. The swell bumps up to 10ft from the WSW, and the wind is light and cross-shore. It’s got a 13-second period, so there’s some push. The forecast is a bit marginal, but you might snag a few if you’re on the right tide.

Monday (Afternoon) through Tuesday: The wind picks up and the quality tanks. Tuesday is a total washout with fresh, lumpy cross-offshore winds and rain. Don’t bother.

Wednesday, August 26th (Morning): The swell is predicted to be too big for this break. 16ft from the WSW with a very long 18-second period is a massive amount of energy (15493). This is for experts only. The afternoon gets messy.

Thursday, August 27th, through Friday, August 28th: We’re in a holding pattern. The swell drops back to the 7ft to 12ft range, but the wind is cross-shore and creating chop. The conditions are marginal. It’s a frustrating wait.

Saturday, August 29th (Morning): Now we’re talking. This is the standout. We’ve got a clean 8ft SW swell, with a 16-second period, and a light NE cross-offshore breeze. The combined energy is a solid (4052). This is what you’ve been waiting for. It’s going to be glassy, lined up, and a proper session for experienced surfers. The afternoon goes onshore, so get it while you can.

Sunday, August 30th (Morning & Afternoon): Another solid day. The swell holds at 8ft from the WSW, and the wind is cross-offshore again. The water will be clean, and the waves will have plenty of push. A great option if you missed Saturday.

Monday, August 31st (Morning): Still some fun to be had. The swell is similar, but the wind swings cross-shore, bringing a little chop. Still a hell of a lot better than the week before.

Tuesday, September 1st, through Thursday, September 5th: A long gap of poor conditions. Strong onshore winds and rain or showers dominate. The swell is there, but it’s blown out. Not worth it.

Friday, September 5th (Afternoon): A slight tease. The wind eases, but the swell is still small and messy. A marginal call.

Sunday, September 6th (Afternoon): We get a pulse of energy. 16ft from the WSW, but it’s cross-on and choppy. The combined energy is (7357), but the wind is ruining it.

Monday, September 7th (Morning): The swell is predicted to be too big for this break. 23ft from the WSW with a 14-second period is a monster. The combined energy is a massive (17786). If you’re a big-wave charger and you know this spot can handle it, it’s a day for the history books. For everyone else, stay well clear.

So, the best on offer is definitely Saturday, August 29th (Morning). It’s the cleanest, most powerful, and most organized swell window we’ve got. The Sunday morning session is a close second. After that, it’s a long stretch of windy, messy conditions until the very end of the forecast, which is promising but too far out to be certain.

Rusty.
