Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright folks, let’s have a proper look at what’s coming our way. This next stretch is a real mixed bag, so pay attention. We’ve got a serious swell train rolling in, but the wind is going to play games with us. This is for Spot x, a reef setup that’s exposed to the swell and works best with a WSW direction.
The first real window of opportunity kicks off on Tuesday morning, July 7th. The ocean is absolutely pumping with a massive 12ft SW groundswell. The energy reading is off the charts at (6014), and with a very long period of 16 seconds, you can feel every bit of that deep ocean pulse. The wind is a light offshore from the ESE, so it’s going to be clean. But listen, at that size, this is for experts only. Beginners, don’t even think about it. The water temp is about average for the time of year, so nothing weird to report there.
Now, keep an eye on Wednesday afternoon, July 8th. The swell drops just a touch to 12ft from the WSW, but the magic happens with the wind. We get glassy conditions with a light NW breeze. For a couple of hours, that reef is going to look perfect. The period is still a very long 15 seconds, which at a reef break like this means steep, powerful, well-shaped waves. It’s still big, still solidly in the expert range, but the lack of any wind chop makes it the standout session of the first week.
The rest of that first week into the weekend is mostly blown out or messy with cross-shore and onshore winds. The swell stays pretty chunky though, dropping from 10ft down to 4ft by Friday afternoon, but the quality just isn't there.
We get a brief window of calm on Saturday morning, July 11th, with glassy conditions and a 8ft SW groundswell. The period is 14 seconds, so still a nice groundswell. It’s clean and manageable for experienced surfers, but the energy is moderate compared to the earlier days. Sunday morning, July 12th is similar: a clean 8ft SW swell with an offshore ESE breeze. A solid, fun option.
The next big highlight lands on Monday morning, July 13th. The swell jumps back up to 12ft from the SW, with a long 16-second period and a clean, offshore wind from the SE. Another day of serious, heavy waves for the crew who can handle it. The energy is massive again at (5973). Tuesday morning, July 14th also looks good with a clean 8ft SW swell and a true offshore from the ENE. A bit smaller, a bit more user-friendly for a strong intermediate.
Now, be warned. From Wednesday, July 15th right through to the middle of the following week, the forecast gets ugly. We’re talking strong onshore winds, lumpy, choppy conditions, and a few days of rain. The swell stays big, peaking at 15ft, but it’s completely unsurfable for paddle surfing. For a couple of days there, if you’re into kiting, the beach might look fun, but for a surfboard, it’s a write-off.
Finally, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Sunday morning, July 19th sees a return to glassy conditions. The swell is a much more reasonable 8ft from the SW with a 12-second period. The energy is moderate, but the clean surface will make for a pleasant session. It’s a promising comeback, but being a week and a half out, it’s one to pencil in rather than bank on. Monday, July 20th, the onshore wind comes back, so don’t sleep on that Sunday.
The big standout is without a doubt Wednesday afternoon, July 8th for the glass and the power. The second pick, if you want something a touch smaller but still clean, is Tuesday morning, July 14th.
