Table - best surf conditions forecast for Spot x over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s get into it. The next 16 days are a bit of a mixed bag for Spotx, with plenty of swell on the table but a lot of it coming with messy wind. The real standouts are the window from Tuesday, July 14th through to Friday, July 24th, but you’ve got to be patient.
The first day with any real recommendation is Thursday morning, July 9th. We’re looking at a solid 10ft swell from the WSW with a 14-second period – that’s a proper groundswell. Combined wave energy is significant at 3107. The water temp is sitting at 66°, which is about average for this time of year. The catch? The wind is a light cross-on from the NW at 3 mph, so it’s not glassy, but it’s very surfable. The break is a reef setup, very consistent, and exposed to the swell. It’s a bit of a gamble with the tide conditions, but for the experienced crew, it’ll be worth a look.
The forecast gets a bit rough from Thursday afternoon all the way through Sunday, July 12th. The swell sticks around – 7ft to 10ft – but the wind is onshore or cross-onshore, and the wave comments are all “poor surf conditions” or “marginal.” The combined energy jumps up to 6059 by Sunday afternoon with a 10ft, 17-second swell, but it’s just too choppy and messy. I’d say leave it alone.
Now, Monday, July 13th is where things start to get interesting. We’ve got a 12ft swell from the SW with a 16-second period and a combined energy of 6799. The wind is a light cross-on from the SW at 3 mph, and the wave comment says “marginal surf forecast or questionable tide conditions,” but the score is decent. This is a big, powerful swell, so it’s only for the experienced. The water is still warm, but the wind is just a little off.
Tuesday, July 14th is your first real standout. The morning is clear, with a 10ft SW swell at 15 seconds and a combined energy of 4343. The wind is offshore from the NE at 9 mph – that’s clean, glassy conditions. The wave comment is “excellent surf conditions for experienced surfers.” This is the best call of the first week. The afternoon is also clean with a cross-off wind.
Things go a bit downhill again from Wednesday, July 15th through to Saturday, July 19th. The swell drops to 6ft-8ft, but the wind is messy, and the combined energy numbers are lower. The only bright spot is Sunday, July 19th afternoon with a 6ft SW swell and a cross-off wind from the SE at 12 mph. It’s clean, but the energy is only 1404 – it’s a small, weak wave.
Monday, July 20th is a surprise. The swell is only 5ft, but the wind is offshore from the ENE at 16 mph, and the wave comment says “expect very good surf conditions.” The combined energy is low (696), but it’s a clean, small wave for the intermediate crew. The afternoon is even better with a 5ft SSW swell and offshore wind.
Tuesday, July 21st is small again – 3ft – but the wind is offshore, and it’s clean. A good day for a longboard or a beginner session.
Now, the real monster is coming. Thursday, July 23rd morning is an 18ft swell from the WSW with a 12-second period. The combined energy is 8645. The wind is light cross-on, so it’s messy, but the wave comment is “marginal surf forecast” and the score is high. This is huge, and it’s too big for most people. The afternoon is 20ft and 12099 energy, but it’s poor.
Friday, July 24th is the absolute standout of the entire forecast. The morning has a 16ft WSW swell with a 17-second period – that’s a very long-period groundswell. The combined energy is 13396. The wind is cross-off from the SE at 6 mph, and the wave comment is “exceptional surf conditions for expert surfers.” This is a massive, clean, powerful swell. It’s only for the experts, and it will be big and heavy. The afternoon is also excellent with a 15ft SW swell. This is the one to circle on the calendar.
So, to wrap it up: the best windows are Tuesday, July 14th for a clean, big swell, and Friday, July 24th for the absolute biggest, cleanest, most powerful groundswell of the period. The rest of the time, you’re fighting the wind or the size.
Stay salty,
Rusty
