Table - best surf conditions forecast for Boneyards over the next 16 days.
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s talk about what’s coming up for Boneyards. This is a heavy reef break, not one for the faint of heart, and the forecast is a real mixed bag. We’ve got a quiet start, then a big pulse of energy that’s strictly for the experienced crew.
First up, we’ve got a bit of a slow start. The early part of the period is looking poor. Saturday the 11th has some swell but the wind is on it and the conditions are marginal. The combined swell energy is 1954 (moderate), but it’s not a goer.
Sunday the 12th morning is a little better with a 6 ft SSW swell, but the wind is cross-onshore, leaving it bumpy. Not worth paddling out for.
Things finally turn around on Monday the 13th morning. This is one of the true standouts. We’ll have a clean 7 ft swell from the E with a short 8-second period, and the wind goes glassy. It’s going to be clean. The combined energy is 1283 (moderate). This is a solid window for experienced surfers – the size is getting up there, so it’s not a beginner’s wave. The water is sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year.
The next highlight is a proper big one. Thursday the 16th sees a 10 ft SW groundswell with a long 14-second period, and the wind is clean cross-off. The energy jumps to 3755 (strong) in the morning and 3075 in the afternoon. This is big, powerful, and for experts only. That long period will make it wall up at a reef like this, so expect some real juice.
Then it gets even bigger. Friday the 17th is pumping with a 15 ft SW swell (13-second period) in the morning and 13 ft in the afternoon. The energy is massive – 6004 and 4949 (very strong). But, the wind picks up to 16 mph with some light rain. It’s going to be a beast of a day, but the conditions are marginal. Still, for the big-wave chargers, this is the call.
We get a bit of a lull with windy, choppy conditions on Saturday the 18th and Sunday the 19th morning, but Sunday the 19th afternoon glassy up with an 8 ft E swell – that’s another clean, expert-level session.
The absolute standout of the whole forecast is Friday the 24th. This is a monster. The morning shows a 16 ft SW swell with a 17-second period, and the wind is clean cross-off. The combined energy is an enormous 13972 (very strong). The afternoon is nearly as big with 15 ft and 10668 energy. This is exceptional surf for expert surfers only. It’s far out, so the details could change, but if it comes together, it’s the one to circle on the calendar.
After that, it backs down a bit, but Saturday the 25th is still big (12 ft) but with cross-on wind, making it messy. Sunday the 26th morning glassy again with a 7 ft SW swell, a nice clean wrap-up to the window.
So, bottom line: the best bets are Monday the 13th morning for a clean, solid session, and the truly epic, expert-only window from Thursday the 16th through to the big one on Friday the 24th. Keep an eye on the wind for the 17th, as it might be more of a kite-surfing day if the quality drops.
Rusty.
