Alright folks, Rusty here. Let’s have a look at what’s coming our way for the next couple of weeks.
We’ve got a solid run of groundswell from the SW pushing into Boneyards, and the water is sitting at 64°, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year – that chill is noticeable, so don’t forget a hood if you’re heading out.
The standout window is Friday the 10th of July. That morning, we’re looking at a 12 ft SSW swell hitting with a 14-second period and offshore wind from the W. The combined energy is pumping at 5089, and the wind is light, so the surface will be clean. This is a serious groundswell – long period, raw power, and it’s going to be a proper reef-break session. Only for experts, though; at 12 ft, it’s too big for anyone else. The morning is the call, as the afternoon drops a little in quality but still holds at 12 ft with a lighter 13-second period.
Tuesday the 7th is a decent starter. The swell is 7 ft from the SW, 12-second period, with a light cross-off breeze. The energy is solid at 1336, and the water’s a bit colder than normal. This is a good one for experienced surfers – clean, manageable, but with enough punch to keep you honest.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell building to 8 ft, then 10 ft by the afternoon, but the wind picks up to 19 mph, and the quality dips. The combined energy climbs to 2817, but it’s a bit bumpy and less clean. Thursday the 9th holds 10 ft with a 14-second period, but the wind is cross-off at 16 mph in the morning and 9 mph in the afternoon. The energy is huge at 4060, but it’s not as clean as Friday.
Saturday the 11th is a dud – heavy rain, onshore wind at 19 mph, and the swell is messy. Forget it.
Sunday the 12th has a window with glassy conditions in the morning and a 5 ft SSW swell. The energy is a moderate 928, and the wind is dead calm. That’s a rare, clean session for a Sunday morning, but the swell is smaller, so it’s a fun wave, not a heavy one.
Monday the 13th and Tuesday the 14th are poor with onshore wind and small, short-period ESE swell. The energy is under 1000, and the quality is marginal. Not worth paddling out.
Wednesday the 15th has a 6 ft ESE swell with offshore wind at 16 mph. The energy is low at 564, but the wind is clean. It’s small but rideable. Thursday the 16th brings a bigger 7 ft SW swell with a 13-second period and offshore wind at 22 mph. The energy is 2049, but the wind is strong, so it’s a bit of a battle.
From Friday the 17th onward, the swell drops off. Small waves, 3 ft to 5 ft, with light winds. The best of this late period is Saturday the 18th morning – glassy with a 4 ft SSW swell and 12-second period. It’s small, but the energy is 785, and it’ll be a clean, fun session for a sunny morning.
The last few days (21st to 22nd July) are tiny, with 1 ft to 2 ft swells and strong winds. Not worth the trip.
Overall, the call is Friday the 10th of July morning – that’s the big one. Big, clean, powerful, and all for the experts. The rest of the run is a mix of decent days and washouts, but that Friday is the standout.
Rusty.
