The Lowdown
Alright folks, Rusty here. Let's get into it.
We've got a solid run of surf on the way at Boneyards, starting Sunday morning. This is a spot for experienced surfers only – a reef break that needs respect. The water is *far colder than usual* for this time of year, so you'll want a good wetsuit. The standout window kicks off Sunday morning the 23rd of August. We're looking at a solid 8ft swell from the southwest with a period of 11 seconds, giving the waves some real punch. The wind is a light, clean cross-offshore breeze, which is going to keep the faces tidy. Combined wave energy is strong at 1515, so there's plenty of power. Monday morning holds a clean 7ft swell from the southwest, a little smaller but still solid with a slightly longer 12-second period.
The real highlight, though, is Tuesday the 25th. Tuesday morning sees a jump in size to a strong 10ft from the southwest with a long 14-second period. The wind stays clean and cross-offshore. The wave energy is very strong, sitting at 3628. This is going to be a day for the confident and skilled surfer only, as it's well over the 8ft mark. Tuesday afternoon holds at 8ft with the same excellent wind and energy levels.
Unfortunately, things go sour from Wednesday the 26th. A strong onshore wind kicks up, making a mess of the 10ft+ swell. It stays poor through to Saturday. A brief window of clean, glassy surf shows up on Friday the 28th morning, with a 5ft swell from the south and a period of 11 seconds, but the energy drops (1219). It's clean, but just a little window.
After that, the wind remains strong for days, and the swell dies. There's a small, clean bump on Monday the 31st of August with a 4ft glassy swell from the southwest, but the period is short at 9 seconds. Tuesday the 1st of September brings a slightly better 6ft from the southwest with a longer 13-second period, but the wind is light and cross-shore. The best of the second week is probably Tuesday the 1st of September, but it's marginal. A bigger 8ft to 8ft pulse from the southwest returns on the 2nd and 3rd of September, but the wind is not ideal.
So, the clear winner is Tuesday the 25th of August. That's the big, clean, powerful day for the experts. Thursday the 28th of August morning is a brief, clean option for those who want a quieter session.
Stay safe out there.
