Updates in hr min s Forecast update imminent
Alright, this is Rusty comin’ at ya from the coast. We’ve got one spot on the radar for this outlook, and it’s a proper reef setup that’s gonna keep things interesting.
We’re looking at a solid run of surf starting this Friday, July 3rd. The water temp is sittin’ at 64°, which is a bit colder than we’d expect for this time of year – about 2.7° off the norm, so you’ll want a decent suit on.
Friday morning kicks off with some clouds and a clean 7.2ft swell from the southeast, with a period of 11 seconds. The wind is a cross-off from the northwest, keepin’ things tidy. The energy in the water is strong, clockin’ in over 2000 units, so there’s plenty of push. This one’s for the experienced crew – it’s a reef break and a bit advanced.
Friday afternoon turns glassy, with the swell bumpin’ up to 7.9ft, still from the southeast. That glassy wind from the north is a treat – you’ll be lookin’ at smooth faces all session.
Saturday, July 4th, keeps the quality high. Morning has a light cross-off from the northwest with a 6.9ft SE swell at 12 seconds. Energy is still solid around 1300. The afternoon goes glassy again from the southeast, droppin’ a touch to 5.9ft, but still clean as a whistle.
Sunday the 5th, the swell starts to fade. Morning is still clean with a smaller 4.6ft swell from the southeast, but by the afternoon it gets a bit messy with a cross-onshore wind and the swell droppin’ off, energy down around 644. Not terrible, but the weekend’s best moments are behind you.
Then the pattern shifts. Monday the 6th brings a new pulse, this time from the southwest, 6.9ft in the morning with glassy conditions again. Strong energy at 1542. Monday arvo gets onshore from the east, a bit less ideal.
From Tuesday the 7th through Wednesday the 8th, we get a solid run of cross-off winds and southwest swell around 6.9–8.2ft. Wednesday morning sees the period stretch out to 14 seconds, energy jumpin’ to 2448. This is proper groundswell power, but at 8.2ft it’s startin’ to get big – definitely expert territory, especially on a reef.
Come Wednesday afternoon and into Thursday the 9th, the swell really pumps up. Wednesday arvo hits 9.8ft from the southwest with 13-second periods and energy over 3200. Thursday morning builds to 8.2ft from the south-southwest, then Thursday afternoon sends in a chunky 11.5ft swell at 15 seconds from the south-southwest. Energy is massive at 4602. This is big, powerful surf, but the wind turns onshore, so it’s gonna be lumpy and tough to manage. Only for the hardcore.
Friday the 10th through Saturday the 11th stays big, around 8.2 to 9.8ft from the south-southwest, but the onshore wind holds, makin’ it messy and choppy. Energy is still high, but the quality drops right off.
Sunday the 12th and beyond gets ugly. Sunday has a risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong onshore winds. Swell drops to 6.9ft and lower. By Monday the 13th, it’s a write-off with fresh onshore winds and lumpy, poor surf. This stretch from Sunday arvo through Monday is a gap of dead conditions.
Tuesday the 14th offers a bit of relief with a small, clean 3.9ft east swell, but the energy is weak – only 377. Wednesday the 15th is wild: a 25 mph offshore wind in the morning makes it clean but hard to paddle into. Then Wednesday arvo, the swell jumps to 13.1ft from the southwest with a crushing 5181 units of energy, but it’s blowin’ a strong cross-off. That’s big, raw power.
Now, the real standout. Thursday, July 16th, into Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th – this is the best run of the outlook. Thursday afternoon sees a massive 18ft swell from the southwest, period 12 seconds, and energy at a staggering 8017. The wind is light and cross-shore, not perfect but manageable. This is for experts only – way too big for anyone else.
Friday the 17th morning goes glassy with a 13.1ft southwest swell, energy at 4548. Clean, powerful, and a proper session for the experienced crew. Saturday the 18th keeps it going with 11.5ft from the south, glassy or clean cross-off winds, and energy well over 3000. That Saturday morning is the pick of the whole run – big, clean, and glassy.
Overall, the best bet is Saturday, July 18th morning at Boneyards. You’ve got a solid 11.5ft south swell, glassy wind, and loads of energy. It’s a reef break and advanced, so know what you’re doing. Crowds can
