Alright folks, Rusty here with a look at what’s coming our way. We’ve got one spot to focus on, so let’s get into it.
We’re starting off on Sunday the 5th of July with some fun, clean conditions at Boneyards. It’s a reef setup that takes an exposed lick from the swell, and we’ve got a moderate wave energy (706) pushing in with a 5ft swell from the SE, period at 11 seconds. The wind is light and cross-off, putting a clean face on things. The water temp is 63°F, which is a bit colder than normal for this time of year, so a good springy suit is the call for the session.
Sunday afternoon gets even better – the wind goes glassy, the swell backs off just a touch to 4ft, but the energy is still there. It’s glassy, and that’s a major positive.
Now, the real standout window starts to build. Monday the 6th of July morning is looking prime. We’ve got glassy conditions with 6ft of SW groundswell rocking in at a 12-second period, and the combined energy jumps into the strong zone (1119). This is solid, wave face clean, and the long period will give you proper shape. This is your pick for a solid, clean session, but keep in mind it’s an advanced-only wave when it gets this size, and crowds can pop up here sometimes. The offshore wind direction out of NW is a sweet bonus.
Tuesday the 7th holds strong with 7ft of SW swell, energy in the strong range (over 1293), and clean conditions in the afternoon with a light S/SW breeze. The swell is getting bigger, and it’s pushing into expert territory, so this is for the experienced crew.
Wednesday the 8th sees the swell bump up to 8ft in the morning, but the wind picks up to a moderate 16 mph cross-off. It’s still rideable and clean, but the wind is noticeable. Afternoon pushes to 10ft – that’s big and only for the brave.
Thursday the 9th is a beast. Morning has 10ft of SW swell with a 14-second period, giving us very strong energy (6672). It’s big, it’s powerful, and the wind is cross-off. This is expert-only territory, no question. The afternoon holds similar size but with a lighter sea breeze.
Friday the 10th of July has the biggest swell of the week at 12ft from the SSW, and the morning is glassy. That’s a rare combo – big, clean reef. But only for top-end surfers. The afternoon gets wrecked by onshore wind and rain, so that’s a bust.
Saturday the 11th is a write-off with fresh onshore winds and rain.
We then drop into smaller, cleaner surf from Sunday the 12th onwards. Sunday morning brings glassy conditions with 4ft SSW swell, energy moderate (1021) – a nice pulse to finish the weekend on. The following week has a few bright spots, but also a lot of weather and size spread.
Overall, for the best surf of the period, lock in the Monday 6th of July morning at Boneyards for that clean, strong groundswell with glassy wind. The Thursday 9th of July morning is a huge, powerful swell for the experts only. The water is a bit colder than normal to start but no major anomaly otherwise. For beginners, anything over 5ft here is pushing it, so stick to the smaller days like Sunday the 5th.
Rusty.
